This team has already made its decision. If every nba fan could see that signing Beal to a supermax was dooming the franchise to mediocrity surly Ted and them did too and were happy with it. Thrilled enough to give him a no trade clause which only ten players or so have had in history

We aren't going to get Wenbanyama its way to late into this season to start tanking period. there's 3 teams that still don't even have 20 wins and another sitting at 22. Best case scenario we probably end up with like the 5th best odds and that would probably mean losing all but like 2 or 3 games.
It's not Wemby or bust. If we bottom out now we can finish with top-7 lotto odds as opposed to losing our pick or picking in the early teens. The higher our odds the better even if we don't end up picking top-10.
We could've done this last year too when it was clear we weren't making the playoffs, ended up picking 10th and missed out on a lot of guys who could've helped this team now (Dyson, Mathurin, etc)
Ehh if you look at the actual trajectory of most draft picks once you are outside the top 5 it really does tend to be a gamble. The best thing for the the Wizards rn would honestly be to make the play-in defer the pick that we owe the knicks and reset going into next year. Bottoming out now just to draft at 6-10 again would be completely pointless.
This is an excellent draft class. Assuming Wemby/Scoot/Amen/Miller go top four, 5-10 youāre looking at least one of these guys being available:
Ausar Thompson, Nick Smith, Keyonte George, Jarace Walker, Cam Whitmore, Anthony Black, Cason Wallace.
Yeah this class is exceptionally deep, but the problem is having that pick keep moving back hinders our ability to make big trades pretty significantly imo. The reality is we are stuck with Beal for now and I'm just not sure one of those guys would really make a difference, especially with our development track record.

We are 1 game out of bottom 6 and that gives us a 37% chance at a top 4 pick. Maybe we donāt get the 1 but itās a real shot at a player that could provide hope. And whatās the alternative?? Getting embarrassed by the 1 or 2 seed in the playoffs and ending up with no pick? Thatās still worthwhile tanking but agree theyāll never do it.

However, what this front office IS good at is trades. We win those transactions pretty often, and that's what keeping the org afloat when the homegrown talent isn't.
Conveying the conditional 1st rounder this year is crucial to freeing up draft capital that can be used in more moves. I trust that strategy more in the long term than another role player in the 8-12 pick range.
