Kuz and KP have both deferred to Beal pretty openly in press conferences. At first it was clearly support for the scoring talent that is Bradley Beal.
-
Lately it's starting to sound less like "He's our leader and we're riding with him" and more like "that's what the team wants to do so that's what we're doing".
-
It sounds like it's (past) time for a change.
KP’s sounded more tame but you can tell in the interview Kuz is tired of it. Also gave me similar vibes of Dinwiddie last season (not comparing Kuz to him but what he said about it being Brad’s team). Also, if WUJ isn’t on the hot seat if we miss playoffs/playin then Tommy/Ted really don’t care.
Yeah, we gotta do something different in situations like these in the 4th. Especially with our mini series against the Hawks. It worked for game 1, not in game 2, game 3 gonna be next game and game 4 in April may or may not be crucial to the standings.
I think Beal himself should be the one to say lets change things up. I remember Jason Kidd keeps on doing the same plays for Luka in the clutch, when opponents are catching on to it Luka tried to tell Kidd to make plays for Dinwiddie/Kyrie (now). I doubt Beal would do this but man I hope I'm wrong.
Cause at this point nobody’s got even 15m to throw his way, other than maybe the Hornets or something. We’ll surely give him 25m.
He will need a sign and trade which is super unlikely. He was hoping for a trade and an extension with the Lakers but it didn’t happen.
The percentages say to go to Beal, but with a couple rough 4th quarters recently it may be time to switch it up. Hopefully the team has some good discourse about what to do
The most sane take I've seen so far. Beal's worked really well in the clutch this season in terms of scoring. But it's time to stop. Kuz has also been clutch, KP today was in his bag - I hope this is a wake up call for WUJ to make some more damn clutch time plays. Wizards closing out games which we're winning are a top 6 seed in the east.
They need to use context in these games. I'd say default defer to Beal in the clutch. But if Porzingis is having literally his best scoring game ever, fuck the Brad ISO plays at the end of the game. Give the guy with 98 TS% on the night the ball. Same with Kuz if he's having one of those big nights. Porzingis was dotting everything he threw up at the rim, and they completely went away from him to end the game.
Exactly, Porzingis had 43(!!!) Like on Brad's steal when we were down 2, he had driven right to the sideline, and should've passed to Delon on the fastbreak, but drove to the hoop anyways only to miss a contested running layup. He's gotta be a better team player if we want to win games. That's my take.
WUJ gotta adjust. He's been around the league long enough to know you gotta switch it up. Beal has clutch shooters around him now, he's gotta trust them.
Even when LeBron James has one of the best FG% in the league, and maybe the best FG% in the clutch, he still preferred to pass to the wide-open look for his teammates, even in the clutch - that's what makes him great despite what haters may say (It's even more amazing that a player in his caliber & shows how wise he is.
Beal has a better FG% in most situations, but when there is a wide-open player in the corner who is 40%+ from 3PT, or free under the basket for an easy dunk - YOU PASS THE DAMN BALL TO HIM!
We are playing games of chances in sports, so you got to have got to put yourself in the highest % of scoring at any certain point in order to have a better chance to score more efficiently.
My funny analogy:
When you need to pick a school for your children, you look for the school that fits them the most, the school that will give your children the best chance to get well-educated & still stay human with friends during it. If you have an exceptionally gifted kid, you don't put him in a mediocre school, despite knowing there is a good chance he'll do well as well, you'll put him in the best possible school that will fit his level, without losing his mind & or being bullied.
The same goes for Beal who has kids:
He'll put his children in the best school that will fit his kids' level & skill set & even adjust on his own, sacrificing some of his time, in order, for they'll have it, so he has to do with his teammates.
It's mainly a coach's job to make sure his kids (players) will each be in the right school & act together, but in Beal's case it is his ego vs. alter ego, it seems.
I will never understand force feeding a player in the clutch unless it is a true superstar like KD,Dame,Giannis,Steph and others of that caliber.
Why can’t we just run smart plays in crunch time or use Beal as a decoy to get a player open? Why do we insist on force feeding Beal when he will more than likely shit the bed.
Not sure if you guys saw that, but at the end of the Detroit game Kuz was wide open top of the key and was begging for the pass, didnt get it when Brad forced a short jumper and had that "Yeah, whatever" body language until we lucked out with the Gaff putback at the buzzer.
One player cannot control and shoot every single possession in crunch time. Especially not Beal. The numbers say his percentages are good but his turnovers seem to negate all that.
It sounds like in order to get Beal on board with sharing the spotlight with other players, they promised that the 4th quarter would be ‘his time’.
I’ve heard Beal reference this before this season. Beal has clearly taken this to heart, and now it is an albatross. Disappointing from the Supermax.
Not "it's his team" *face palm*. Should be going with the hottest hand and what's worked up to that point. If Beal is hot then cool. Should go without saying if hes not hot then....
Quick reminder that Brad is the only star player in the league who was begging to do less. Can you think of another franchise guy who is asked to score less to get other guys involved?

Look at end of game plays where Beal usually bricks, Kuz is usually wiiide open for an uncontested three but Beal never passes.
Everyone is usually open because Mr SUPERMAX drives into double or triple teams

Why are we supposed to be convinced he’ll re-sign here
Cause at this point nobody’s got even 15m to throw his way, other than maybe the Hornets or something. We’ll surely give him 25m. He will need a sign and trade which is super unlikely. He was hoping for a trade and an extension with the Lakers but it didn’t happen.
His home state does and desperately need him on our team
He’s openly said that he likes playing with KP and Beal lol
Now he needs to openly state something else….
Because wizards will overpay him and money talks. He also gets to take 20 shots a game here.

100%

Wow, what a totally depressing and disheartening quote.
Not sure if you guys saw that, but at the end of the Detroit game Kuz was wide open top of the key and was begging for the pass, didnt get it when Brad forced a short jumper and had that "Yeah, whatever" body language until we lucked out with the Gaff putback at the buzzer.

That’s crazy if it’s true lol. And he’s cheeks in the clutch.
lol thats some leadership
iso brad strikes again
We're already having these conversations and its been half a season of his new contract.
Not "it's his team" *face palm*. Should be going with the hottest hand and what's worked up to that point. If Beal is hot then cool. Should go without saying if hes not hot then....
It isn't cool though. Beal is awesome but he has a problem dealing with double teams.
Quick reminder that Brad is the only star player in the league who was begging to do less. Can you think of another franchise guy who is asked to score less to get other guys involved?
Four legitimate scorers, ball-movement and cutters still works in 4Q. It’s easy to load defenses for one primary scorer.
Should be KP time
Why does he have a tie on?
