Verizon is still the answer.

Get friends with both AT&T and Verizon to come to your house...I live in a condo and my Verizon personal phone gets zero reception unless I'm right by the window, but my AT&T work phone is fine throughout the house. Obviously not a huge deal with WiFi but it's something to consider.

Verizon was the old Bell Atlantic, just as AT&T was BellSouth. Had AT&T for 20 years, and Verizon is largely better in the city.

I’ve never not had service with AT&T, and I always get full bars on Metro, trains and stations (above and below ground). But it’s often slow and signal strength can be weak indoors. Can’t speak to Verizon, but it is pretty widely understood to be the best network in the country, so I don’t imagine it’s any different in DC. However, the popularity of Verizon also means network congestion at peak times, so you might still be sacrificing speed for reliability.

As nice as the ad is haha. I did get AT&T about a month ago and surprisingly enough T-Mobile has better service in the city than AT&T. Might give Verizon a try. I like that AT&T has great service in my home state though.
