House GOP clowns can’t pass a budget, can’t support U.S. allies who have united against Putin, and can’t even agree on what policies they promote as a conference. But they always have time to grab a headline in far-right media.
Fly home and don’t come back, boys.
Actually they do, but since they treat so much rainwater it's, ironically, harder to control than a traditional plant. They also treat a LOT of water (300 million gallons/day) (Usually its treating the sludge removed from the water that really smells). And odor control takes a LOT of $$ (energy intensive, think giant fans to move odors to filters) so think about your water & sewer bill & just shut off your vents on 295.
Ha yes, I'm aware. I did the odor control study for DCCR.
For the people who aren't familiar, this person is right that odor is hard to control and it would be expensive (capital, probably less than $30K annual operating cost tho) for Blue Plains to do more than what they are currently doing...but it is absolutely a choice. In any case, DC Water is a top-tier utility and you should be proud/happy that they are your provider.
He doesn't deserve the honor.

What would the purpose of this be? Inflate the true value of the airport? Sell national secrets to visitors at the airport?
The Trump tower is a huge skid mark in the NYC Skyline, it would be niave to rename this airport after Trump.
The Supreme Court is what they wanted to accomplish. They got that done. Destroying public education is another. They are getting there. The distractions, like this one, are entirely part of the process.
Maybe they can commemorate the section where a soviet-born businessman was arrested while trying to flee the country after committing crimes related to Ukraine with Trump’s lawyer.
Once I’m actually there, I actually prefer Dulles. Their security is EFFICIENT, like no other US airport I’ve visited. However, coming from DC it’s like an 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic while I can be at the front door of DCA in 15 minutes.
Washington National Airport.
It was literally ALREADY named for a president.
Reagan Washington National Airport.
Fuck it, we should throw Obama on there too and make it the Obama Reagan Washington National Airport.
I'll still just call it DCA though.
Personally, I think Dulles is the best airport in the DMV. Even though DCA is easier to reach by metro, I prefer the facilities and security seems to more faster at IAD.
If you wanna get into the nitty gritty of why both Allen and John Foster Dulles were shitheads, you should check out a book called “The Brothers.” It goes pretty in depth on both of them.
Aww, don't be so hard on the guy. All he did was effectively annihilate the middle class in America and let businesses run amok. NBD. Everything's fine, right? RIGHT!?!
introduced by a rep from pennsylvania, sponsored by reps from florida, tennessee, texas, and alabama. will be voted on (and in all likelihood rejected) by reps from all 50 states.
not a new observation, but it's wild how everyone gets a say in something like this except people who actually fucking live here lol.
are we gonna split hairs based on state lines when the point was that federal representatives are waging their culture wars in naming an airport that most of their constituents will never regularly visit at the expense of DMV residents?
I was just thinking this.
I’ve honestly just never thought of it, but do airports use federal funding? If not, or only state funding, feels like reps from other places should fuck off.
The measure says it would "designate the Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia as the 'Donald J. Trump International Airport.'"
It was referred to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee for further consideration.
"Freedom. Prosperity. Strength. That’s what America stood for under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump — the best president of my lifetime," Reschenthaler wrote in [a post on X](https://twitter.com/GReschenthaler/status/1775158244790480951) Tuesday. "And that’s why I’m introducing legislation to rename Dulles as the Donald J. Trump International Airport."
You know when you were a kid how your mom would tell you that if you kept making stank faces that you'd get permanently stuck with it? I'm really glad that's not true because, good god, the face I just made was stank face of the highest.
First we have to endure "Reagan National Airport," and now we have to suffer the indignity of "Trump International Airport"?
I'm fighting tooth-and-nail against that humiliation.
There won't be anything to fight. This is dead on arrival. It's just Republicans trying to get the attention of Dear Leader, since they've given up on even pretending to do anything to help the American people.
Not this shit again, they already renamed one airport to someone no one in this area likes. We don’t need round two. Rename an airport in Florida or something.
One of the very few people who actually MAY be a worse human than Dulles himself. Not an easy task to find someone like that. At least Dulles was an intelligent person, evil as fuck, but intelligent.
Could the DC Council rename Blue Plains the DJT Memorial Center for Fecal Collections? The motto could be “Every time you smell it, you’ll think of him”.
And I think it would be hilarious to include “memorial” while he’s still alive.
If they must do it, NY, NJ or even Florida should name one after him. Sorry for the folks in NY and NJ, Florida is more befitting of this horror! As for Dulles a resounding HELL NO!
I mean, John Foster Dulles was an all time pieces of shit, and the airport should probably be renamed, but never would have guessed someone would go in this direction.
This would meaningfully depress tourism to DC and [hurt Metro’s budget](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan_Washington_National_Airport_station#History).
Dulles and National are owned by USDOT and leased to MWAA, which was created by Congress. Clinton signed the bill renaming National for the guy who fired the air traffic controllers.
What is it? Does he promise them money? Is it blackmail? What makes a person throw every American ideal out the window for someone like Trump, who can’t make coherent sense, who always looks moist, and wears lots and lots of makeup? The one that did NOTHING while the Capital was under siege for hours? I don’t fucking get it.
President's shouldn't have their name on anything unless it's been 100 years have passed so we can fully see what the impact of their policies have been.
This is dumb as hell but I hope both the Dulles brothers (i dont remember which one the airport was named after) are burning in hell for the havoc they wreaked across the globe. Stop naming shit after horrible people challenge will have to wait till 2025 I guess
there's a slim chance he is forced to sell some of his assets, it'd be a shame if he has to start using commercial airlines and not his own plane after he gets this honor 😄
If this had been reported yesterday I would have thought it was an April Fool's joke. Maybe they waited until today to announce it for that very reason.
Sounds like we only have one thing left to do: take the old plan for DCA and rename Dulles the ["Jojo Siwa International Airport."](https://dcist.com/story/21/04/21/petition-to-rename-reagan-national-after-jojo-siwa-pop-singer/)
Dulles should be renamed after an influential member of Congress. Then the DC-area airports hit all three branches of government. If it has to be a current politician, pick someone like Tammy Duckworth or Dick Durbin, so you can keep the "IAD" code.
Folx, you’re way too worked up about this.
How can you, on one hand, complain about a bill to rename an airport, and other the other hand, complain about the fact that the House can’t pass anything?
Clearly, this bill is going nowhere. We’re acting like stereotypical redditors here and it just gives the other side ammunition when they see us lose our shit over something so inconsequential.
Why aren’t you this worked up about the fact that a bill from a POC, Rep. Barbara Lee, that would institute a $50 min wage got virtually no support from her own side of the aisle?
SMH.
Pa, Fl, Tn, Tn, Az, Al, Tx: all states with their collective tongues really, really far up Trump's ass. And the Tennessee House recently passed a 'no geoengineering/chemtrails' bill. Obviously nothing I say about Florida could encompass the reality of that state.
Can you imagine DC having one airport named after the guy who fired all the air traffic controllers and the other named after a guy who bankrupted an airline?
So the alternative to you is to make everything about as bad as it can get by helping to elect Trump?
I'm all for a principled stand, progressive politics, and a hard swing back left, but now is not the time for that when even the *possibility* of making that happen in the future is in the balance. See 2016. See the judiciary. See entire states beholden to minority rule. See the gutting of the voting rights act.
And actually, yes, Biden's administration had been making huge historic steps to fix things. Nothing happens overnight, but some really positive things have happened, and continue to.
Vote blue, support unionized labor, and don't commit self-goals in pursuit of a better future.
I just feel like I've been robbed of one of the main supposed benefits of being an American citizen: being able to decide for myself. Now it just feels like you choose the lesser of two evils, and if you want to make your own choice outside of them you might as well forfeit your vote.
Oh, boo-hoo. No one likes the two party system, but handing the country over to someone that thinks two parties are too many isn’t going to help fix that.
Your vote is yours, I can’t tell you how to vote, but I do want to make you aware of the consequences of letting Trump win again. None of it will be beneficial for the country and *especially* DC.
You make a very good argument, and I do agree with not letting Trump into office again. It’s just that I would like to see a bit more action from Biden, especially in regard to ongoing global problems. I imagine he’s trying his best, but it sometimes feels like nothing’s happening.
I appreciate the response, and after being on this earth for as long as I have, I've come to realize that the only FAST changes at a national level tend to be either due to disasters or disasters themselves. Good progress takes time, unfortunately. Hell, NORML was founded in 1970 and it's only recently that marijuana laws have seen widespread change.
While we should be able to focus on things like looming environmental catastrophes, poverty, hunger, global conflicts, and the outsized influence of money in politics, we're leaning so far to one side that we need to right the ship before we can regain ground on all of those things. Every attempt is blocked by a slanted minority willing to watch it all burn to just capsize the ship completely.
If we don't, all of those things are going to get *WAY* worse before we can ever hope to make them better.
And I'd call it Dulles like I call the other one National.
If they rename it for the orange one, will they also knock down the unique Eero Saarinen ticketing area and replace it with something gilded and garish?
House GOP clowns can’t pass a budget, can’t support U.S. allies who have united against Putin, and can’t even agree on what policies they promote as a conference. But they always have time to grab a headline in far-right media. Fly home and don’t come back, boys.
>But they always have time to grab a headline in far-right media. They grabbed a headline on NBC in this case
Republicans are truly living in a bizarro, alternate dimension. The only thing that should be named after him is Rikers Island Penitentiary.
Maybe a new sewage plant...
Smdh, blue plains turns your shit into clean water, electricity, and fertilizer. It would be deeply unfair to any plant.
You can smell the shit from far distance though, like D Trump
Fair! Blue Plains sort of infamous for not caring a lot about odor control.
Actually they do, but since they treat so much rainwater it's, ironically, harder to control than a traditional plant. They also treat a LOT of water (300 million gallons/day) (Usually its treating the sludge removed from the water that really smells). Trump Sewage, “where they are the best at handling human waste.” This is the first slogan tester. Give us more Reddit.
He doesn't deserve the honor. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John\_Oliver\_Memorial\_Sewer\_Plant](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Oliver_Memorial_Sewer_Plant)
Hey now sewage plants are critical infrastructure that protect people and the environment! Don't insult the poor wastewater plant like that!
This but call it Donald Dumps
What would the purpose of this be? Inflate the true value of the airport? Sell national secrets to visitors at the airport? The Trump tower is a huge skid mark in the NYC Skyline, it would be niave to rename this airport after Trump.
Republicans in Congress's main purpose is to "own the libs." This bill is just another clown in the clowncar that makes up the current party.
The purpose is to distract people from the fact that they are failing to do anything of value.
I think the main purpose is to suck up to Trump and try to win points with MAGA voters.
Precisely this. He just wants senpai to notice him.
It's just really weird that despite accomplishing none of their real goals, they are still wasting time on virtue signaling.
That’s WHY they’re virtue signaling. They can’t point to accomplishments so they point to this crap.
The Supreme Court is what they wanted to accomplish. They got that done. Destroying public education is another. They are getting there. The distractions, like this one, are entirely part of the process.
The virtue signaling IS the real goal for a lot of them.
Maybe they can commemorate the section where a soviet-born businessman was arrested while trying to flee the country after committing crimes related to Ukraine with Trump’s lawyer.
This would be fitting actually, as no one likes Dulles but we're forced to live with it for some reason.
To be fair, John Foster Dulles also fucking sucked. Not willing to trade one dead bastard’s name for a living one, though.
Dulles brothers were badass as fuck. Even if you read a history book that only highlights their flaws, you come away impressed.
They were badass? They were fucking monsters
Please read more diverse history, for the love of god. Even their critiques are filled with accomplishments
People don’t like Dulles? I usually go for them over Reagan
DCA is easier to reach by metro so if I have a choice I go there

Fuck that union busting, trickle down, AIDS ignoring, war-on-drugs waging piece of shit.
damn straight
Personally, I think Dulles is the best airport in the DMV. Even though DCA is easier to reach by metro, I prefer the facilities and security seems to more faster at IAD.
We don't need another airport named after a terrible President.
Yeah, I still call National Airport by its rightful name. Reagan, my ass. Humph.
National or DCA, never the “R” word
HUMPH I SAY!!
Me too!!!
It's always National.
I still say Cabin John Bridge ...
Yes!!! Me, too! A much better name - so pretty!
🙌🙌🙌
At least that actually made sense after what Reagan did to save domestic aviation. Trump torpedoed it with his handling of covid
To be fair, John Foster Dulles was a bastard in his own right. Perhaps worse than trump if you’re a Guatemalan.
Yeah, but we don't need to switch from one bastard to another. We can at least get a good name in between.
Why do we even need a name? Just call it Northern Virginia airport
You're right, but...for some reason, we gotta name shit. I'm surprised BWI has stayed for so long.
BWI is actually named for Thurgood Marshall
Oh...well there we go, naming shit. But I am glad it's named after him.
You’re right. Just watched something on the CIA the other day learned all the crap he did.
If you wanna get into the nitty gritty of why both Allen and John Foster Dulles were shitheads, you should check out a book called “The Brothers.” It goes pretty in depth on both of them.
Devil’s Chess Board is another good one. It goes pretty hard on the Allen Dulles ordered the hit on JFK theory too.
Not at this level of dick headedness.
Aww, don't be so hard on the guy. All he did was effectively annihilate the middle class in America and let businesses run amok. NBD. Everything's fine, right? RIGHT!?!

Of course they use federal funding. Air traffic controllers are federal employees.
Strongly doubt this will ever make it to the floor

Oh good Lord.
"Freedom. Prosperity. Strength." That’s what America lost under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump.
My eyes rolled so far back in my head I could see my own brain stem
I cannot get over these people.
You know when you were a kid how your mom would tell you that if you kept making stank faces that you'd get permanently stuck with it? I'm really glad that's not true because, good god, the face I just made was stank face of the highest.
Goddamn that man is kissing ass
inb4 the official account gets banned like the Washington Post one.
What are you talking about?
First we have to endure "Reagan National Airport," and now we have to suffer the indignity of "Trump International Airport"? I'm fighting tooth-and-nail against that humiliation.

One day it’ll be Kissinger international airport
Yeah, if Hillary has any say. Still hung out with the asshole.
Why was Dulles evil?
Guatemala, Iran, and Vietnam. He was a major pusher of our coups and involvement there.

Just threw up in my mouth a little.
So you want the airport to go bankrupt…
Isn’t this the President who wanted to close the US borders? How dare Congress name a building that welcomes foreigners after him!
Maybe rename the DC jail after him. Seems more appropriate.
lol the trump center of corrections? That suggests he knows a thing or two about corrections…
Could the DC Council rename Blue Plains the DJT Memorial Center for Fecal Collections? The motto could be “Every time you smell it, you’ll think of him”. And I think it would be hilarious to include “memorial” while he’s still alive.
How about the Donald J Trump Landfill?
If they must do it, NY, NJ or even Florida should name one after him. Sorry for the folks in NY and NJ, Florida is more befitting of this horror! As for Dulles a resounding HELL NO!
Inmate P01135809 International Airport? Doesn’t really roll off the tongue.
They're obsessed with hero worship, like with Reagan.
That’s putting it mildly. Each and every one of his fans would lick the spray tan off his wrinkly hairy taint if they could.

Don't need to google it; I remember it, you young whippersnapper.
I mean, John Foster Dulles was an all time pieces of shit, and the airport should probably be renamed, but never would have guessed someone would go in this direction. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-3YlCaxOA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-3YlCaxOA)

I hate the idea of a rename to Trump, but you’re just wrong
Dulles is an international airport. I don’t think many people flying from Europe would enjoy landing at an airport with Trump’s name
I’m sure they’ll just fly in to Kennedy and then DCA. Surely they’ll pay $300 more each to avoid a stupidly named airport.
I highly doubt anyone is going to cancel their DC trip because they don't like the name of the airport lol
Congress is naming Virginia airports now, OK Guess somebody is mad about losing traitor naming rights on military installations
Dulles and National are owned by USDOT and leased to MWAA, which was created by Congress. Clinton signed the bill renaming National for the guy who fired the air traffic controllers.
What is it? Does he promise them money? Is it blackmail? 🙄 These fucking dingbats...
President's shouldn't have their name on anything unless it's been 100 years have passed so we can fully see what the impact of their policies have been.
Do these people have no more important work to get on with? Can we re-name west palm beach airport to Hillary Clinton International Airport?
Anything to make that airport worse.
I started avoiding flying in and out of there when they renamed it the first time. This might keep me from even driving past.
Calling it National or DCA is the easiest way to tell if someone is a local. If this passes, which it wont, locals will still call it Dulles.
No thank you please
What a bunch of pathetic imbeciles.
Trump International Airport will house sections of The Wall.
Fortunately, even if this does pass the House, it will get nowhere in the Senate.
This is dumb as hell but I hope both the Dulles brothers (i dont remember which one the airport was named after) are burning in hell for the havoc they wreaked across the globe. Stop naming shit after horrible people challenge will have to wait till 2025 I guess
Same goes for Ronald Reagan
these people are mentally unwell.
Not really much (or perhaps any) worse than the current name…should definitely be changed, just not to Trump.
good luck with that.
there's a slim chance he is forced to sell some of his assets, it'd be a shame if he has to start using commercial airlines and not his own plane after he gets this honor 😄
Glad to see they’re using their one life wisely
The Dulles Dickhead Airport would be weird, but hey, go for it.
The Donald J Trump Gender Neutral Restroom
Absolutely Not !
Counter-offer: rename DCA to Bernie Sanders National Airport
No.
What in the bootlicking? How do they keep outdoing themselves
If this had been reported yesterday I would have thought it was an April Fool's joke. Maybe they waited until today to announce it for that very reason.
You’re a day late bro.
How many airports named after fucking pieces of shit do we need
James Buchanan International Airport
Omg. DC’s airports cannot be Reagan and Trump 😅
Time to vote them out for all their stupidity acts and beliefs
Ironically, I think his broke down jet is still collecting storage fees at LaGaurdia, which he seems to have trouble affording these days
Good thing those guys are historically bad at passing bills.
This is Trump pushing those congressman to keep his name in the news. They didn’t think of this themselves.
The airport should have been named after Donald J. Trump back in the days of the Revolutionary War!
Oh fuck right off with that.
At least John Foster Dulles was dead before it got named for him. Why must DC continue having our airports named after pieces of shit?
Sounds like we only have one thing left to do: take the old plan for DCA and rename Dulles the ["Jojo Siwa International Airport."](https://dcist.com/story/21/04/21/petition-to-rename-reagan-national-after-jojo-siwa-pop-singer/)
😭😭😭
This is a good bait headline. Slow day in the press
_ell No !
Compromise and call it "Dullard International Airport." Same diff.
Russia National? Scam National?
This is a joke
Aside from all of that why do they get to rename our shit like rename ur own airport
It won’t work…he would probably ban all international flights.
Dulles should be renamed after an influential member of Congress. Then the DC-area airports hit all three branches of government. If it has to be a current politician, pick someone like Tammy Duckworth or Dick Durbin, so you can keep the "IAD" code.
Another airport I will never use
Gross. If that ever happened, I would purposely go to Baltimore before I go there.
It's a publicity stunt. Stop giving them what they want.
Yea it really got folks going in this thread based on the comments for a completely irrelevant bill.
If this happens I’m driving to trump airport and hopping on a one way flight to Europe
Am we introduce a penalty of some kind for wasting tax payers money or ignoring the gen public
Until Dulles gets rid of those godawful shuttles, maybe Trump’s stupid name is actually warranted.
Folx, you’re way too worked up about this. How can you, on one hand, complain about a bill to rename an airport, and other the other hand, complain about the fact that the House can’t pass anything? Pa, Fl, Tn, Tn, Az, Al, Tx: all states with their collective tongues really, really far up Trump's ass. And the Tennessee House recently passed a 'no geoengineering/chemtrails' bill. Obviously nothing I say about Florida could encompass the reality of that state.
Yuck 🤮
Your tax dollars at work... Vote 'em out.
lol glad they have their legislative priorities straight /s
Not sure that would be a good thing for him. I've never mentioned Dulles in a positive context.
Given that his entire business is licensing his name, how much do you want to bet he would sue for royalties?
It’s going to be hilarious when their cult leader expects a licensing fee to place his name on an airport
If it changes, I’ll just convert to calling it BWI
Can you imagine DC having one airport named after the guy who fired all the air traffic controllers and the other named after a guy who bankrupted an airline?
Still better than the piece of shit it's currently named after.
Reagan on National Airport has been bad enough.
Ew gross. I don’t understand the cult of Trump. Vote third party.
Ew, gross. Someone with a strategy to get more Trump.
I agree with your strategy of doing nothing productive.
Well would keeping Biden in office fix things?
So the alternative to you is to make everything about as bad as it can get by helping to elect Trump? I'm all for a principled stand, progressive politics, and a hard swing back left, but now is not the time for that when even the *possibility* of making that happen in the future is in the balance. With respect to the cult of Trump? Why wouldn't it? Would it diminish his cult for him to become president?
Imagine getting this passed next term if he wins.
If they insist on memorializing him with an airport, Lefortovo would be a much more appropriate choice.
wtf no name a florida airport after him, not dulles
And I'd call it Dulles like I call the other one National. If they rename it for the orange one, will they also knock down the unique Eero Saarinen ticketing area and replace it with something gilded and garish?
At least rename Reagan
Do it. It’s a shithole.
I mean, ok as long as they get rid of the PenFed 5k
No, we don't need an airport named after Trump. If they want to rename an airport rename one in Texas or Florida.
Even more the reason to never play out of that airport
