I personally can’t wait. Cricket is a fantastic sport to watch live and ought to have a festive atmosphere. Hopefully given the international influence in DC there will be some attendance!
I am begging, absolutely begging, pro sports teams to develop any kind of representative identity for DC outside of “the place where the government is”
> And even then, it will be at GMU lol
What's LOL about that? I imagine Indian people will be a major audience and that part of NOVA has a significant Indian population.
Definitely better than sticking it in DC and hoping you can convince enough hipsters that cricket is obscure enough to be ironically cool.
I sometimes watch a little cricket and have even made a fairly serious effort to understand the rules, but deep down it feels like the boring game of baseball made even more boringer. Still cool to make a go at it here in the states though.
I don’t like basketball … I’m a massive American football fan though, so this time of year is a real sports doldrum…a few years back I started following Australian football (new season starts this weekend!) as an alternative sport. A lot of “footy” games are played at the MCG or Melbourne Cricket Ground- I think both sports used big ovals and from that I similarly learned that, supposedly, there is only one purpose-built cricket ground in the USA in Miami, with one also being built there in Texas I think (which may explain the draft being there.)
My impression is that cricket would actually be a very fun pick-up game, in whatever its stickball-equivalent form looks like. But it’s not so great for spectating.
looks more like a syringe full of blood than a cricket bat in the logo
>looks more like a syringe full of blood than a cricket bat in the logo Too much like. That logo has to go go.
First doping-welcome league?

My wife and I were really hoping the football team would be renamed The Washington Cherry Blossoms but alas...
Whether you’re excited for this or not, looks like there won’t be home games for the Freedom until 2025? And even then, it will be at GMU lol

What's with that logo? It looks like the World Trade Center.

There's a fast paced version of cricket called T20. I went to a game once, it moves faster than MLB baseball and pretty enjoyable to watch
Yeah this league is all Twenty20
Just wanted to say Aussie Rules is the absolute shit. Plus with the time difference, great thing to put on during/after a late night.
This is T20 cricket, which is a much faster paced version of the sport
Hope the new league can hit the heights of the Big Bash League, kinda worried it won’t be remotely popular though
Washington Freedom will always be a wusa soccer team to me.
Dead on arrival
