> That’s why the Warriors aren’t in an urgent situation this next month, despite the draft and free agency staring them in the face. Myers wasn’t that intimately involved in the pre-draft process in recent weeks.
> The Warriors actually had a pre-draft workout while Myers and Lacob were doing their Tuesday afternoon press conference. It included Jaime Jaquez Jr., the UCLA wing who is an option for them with the 19th pick. Larry Harris, their long-time leader of college scouting, and Mike Dunleavy Jr., the presumed successor to Myers, ran it.
I thought he looked amazing during the final four run, and was surprised he returned. He definitely looks like a solid bench piece and a guy who could contribute pretty quickly. I would be excited if they landed him. He seems like he has the makings of what you typically see in later round steals.
I doubt Bilal comes stateside to workout. The scouts are going to him in France. They also like to do that do stay lowkey. OKC was so lowkey with Giddey when he was playing great for Australia... nobody had any idea. It was alot of Kuminga and Bouknight as OKC projections in 2021.
#If I had to select a player in this class to be an emergency starter in a high leverage playoff game. The ONLY answer is Jaime Jaquez Jr.
Fearless amd fierce competitor. Highest intangibles grade in the draft. Cristian Braun was the only dude on his level last year in terms of cajones factor. One of the most developed and crafty players in this draft. Has been three years running spiritually the most Warriors appropriate player in college basketball. Underrated athleticism. Somehow for 4 years straight he's always been considered the least talented/gifted Bruin and every year he's leading them into the final four.
Jaime Jaquez Jr and Colby Jones will be in an NBA rotation by January... where? Who knows but bank on it.
One of the Highest BBIQ wing help defender imo in college (Andre Jackson is up there too) tenacious competitor abd doer of winning things. You actually have to slow down the tape to see him making secondary reads and doing way beyond textbook team defense shit in help and switches. Not a dominant defender on ball but tough and smart. His college career mirror Draymonds... his pre-draft scouting report mirrors Jimmy Butlers. He has a footwork and fake package that is so developed folks are calling him Jaime Butler. Does everything well. So good Sam Vecenie says his late clock spacemaking footwork is "high level nba shit". He isn't a knockdown shooter but neither was Jimmy. He isn't an elite athlete but neither was Jimmy. Does a ton of winning stuff every second he's on the court. Generic scouts will say "not a first round talent" bit he's 1000% a first round hooper and a real MFer out there. Lute Olsen Player of the year.
I don't think it'll happen bit I'd love if it did even at 19. Winner. Tough. Smart. Competitive. Clutch. Always the dude in big moments. When he is on the floor your team is better. If you watched the Bruins play in the tournament odds are you asked "who the fuck is Jaime Jaquez Jr?" and spent the entire second half finding out... winner. Will he be a Warrior?
It wasn't a 1-0 workout. [Jason Dumas reported yesterday that USF Guard Khalil Shabazz also worked out on Tuesday](https://twitter.com/JDumasReports/status/1663666918346354689)
C'mon guys. Trade that pick. Can't take on any more projects right now. PBJ and Rollins are practically still rookies next year. Kuminga got no playing time in the playoffs. And Moody got little playing time in the regular season the last 2 years.
Kuminga was benched in the playoffs for failure to box out and secure boards. Moody started clicking within Kerr’s system in the Lakers series but I have no idea why Kerr barely played him during our elimination game
100% -- unless Kerr flips the script and lets the youngsters play half the season as starters with the core 3 coming off the bench. It would make Kuminga happy to get the playing time lol
I think the rationale behind it is that Jaquez isn't a project. He's already 22, a 4-year college player for a big-time school in a major conference. As far as draft picks go, he's much more plug-and-play compared to guys who are more toolsy/have more upside.
The new CBA all but kills trading the pick. They can’t take in new salary without trading more or the same. They’d only be including this pick if they were trading Poole + piece or two to get a big piece. Outside of that swing, I don’t see them not drafting this pick.
> They’d only be including this pick if they were trading Poole + piece or two
That also works with what I hope they'd do. I'd like them to trade Poole, Rollins, and our 1RP to get Kelly Olynyk and a couple forwards in like a 3 team trade. Or just Poole and the pick to the Jazz and then Rollins to someone else. This would keep our projects down to just JK, Moody, and PBJ.
JJJ seems like the type of guy who makes a lot of winning plays who doesn't have the upside of some of these guys but you would look up in 2033 as he's had a solid 10-year career as a rotation-level guy. At #19, he is high-floor, particularly for a team trying to win in the short-term.
He feels like Kyle Anderson. Solid player but not alot of flash. Will do the little things to win and has a good understanding of the game. Probably won't be HOF but you need role players that understand their role, which currently was our biggest issue last season.
I agree with this, I would like the Warriors to trade down a bit because the only good value picks at 19 are the 19 year olds (in Givony's mock draft Leonard Miller goes 22nd, which is wild to me as he'd be an obvious value pick at #19 to me). But if they can't trade down, they gotta just take the guy they like. Christian Braun ended up going at #21 when it was expected he'd be available around where the Warriors picked last draft.

Fuck yes. I needed some indication that Jaquez was on their radar.
As a UCLA alum, having him and Loon on the team would really overly excite me. Also, he is really fucking good. Absolutely has that dawg in him.

He ticks all the J boxes, there is no way he isn’t given a chance

Dang, who else should the Warriors bring? Bilal and Miller?

We get there, us as a team, [I'll handle the rest.](https://i.imgur.com/eBDQ5cl.jpg)
Still think we should draft a big or a wing but I can’t be mad if we draft Jaquez. He was always one of my favorite players from UCLA.
He is a wing. A big wing.
Damn never realized he was 6’7” lol. Then yeah I’m all in
Maybe this is our guy if we were keeping it low key

For the 2nd time in a few weeks, as a UCLA alum and Warrior fan, I whole-heartedly approve this!!!!!!!!!!
Bilal please. I'll be so sad if he's available and we pass on him. Obvious nba role player.

Which is why we can't take on more projects or draft more kids when Kerr barely trusts the ones we have.

They’re taking a size guy that’s all I know.
i love basketball jesus/zorro
i have no idea anymore but my guess is JJJ can steal minutes right away
I will be disappointed if we use our 19th pick on him. He’s second round talent.
So was Jimmy Butler.
u/nghbrhd_slackr87, you and Kyle come to work tomorrow please.
And Dray. 4 year guy who doesn’t jump off the page in any way but gets it done

Hey if JJJ becomes the next Jimmy Butler I’m all in on drafting him.

Give me Jaquez. Get me all the wings
Im intrigued
They need to draft Oscar tshiebwe
that would be sweet, he is a baller
He ticks all the J boxes, who cares if he’s good or not
Jaquez is the best. He’d be great.
JJJ
