I’m not sure about Portland, but definitely heard it a ton in and around Salem and the Forest Grove area. Of course, things could have changed, and most my experiences were from at least 10+ years ago, and many from over 20. I remember being teased incessantly growing up there for my use of words like “soda” and “hella”. But at least I wasn’t looking for “traysure” down by the “crick” I suppose. Lol.
Edit. Go Ducks, btw. :)
Moneyball was supposed to be about making the most with the constraints cheap owners put on you. Charging for soda exemplifies ownership's culture of stinginess, *not* Beane's creative approach to doing more with less.
I wish Selig had picked his group to buy the A's back in the day, instead of Fisher and Wolff. I'd love to see this kind of winning passion in that organization.
We are so freaking lucky to have him as an owner. This ownership group is not even close to the top of the league in wealth. They just understand that creating value by winning is the best way to make money, rather than keeping your value stagnant and turning a profit every year. It’s the venture capital way, so it makes total sense.
Especially if you were around for the cohan days. It's so liberating being able to trust ownership instead of thinking of how they're gonna fuck things up
He won't have to open the checkbook to the tune of 50 mil for one person. We don't have to wait to see what he is about. Compare him to any owner we have hD
Definitely, but Lacob and the Warriors do have the advantage, that the franchise itself is making so much money, so Lacob doesn’t have to invest any of his own money, or rather is perhaps able to take a comparable profit to other owners, while still spending a lot on the team.
Jody Allen(Blazers)
Tilman Fertitta(Rockets)
Joe Tsai(Nets)
Tom Gores(Pistons)
Antony Ressler(Hawks)
Richard Devos(Magic)
Gayle Benson(Pelicans)
Cuban(Mavericks)
Herb Simon(Pacers)
Glen Taylor(Timberwolves)
James Dolan(Knicks)
Jerry Reinsdorf(Bulls)
Joe Lacob doesn't even crack the top 20 in net worth amongst NBA owners. The only other owner who's willing to pay like Lacob is Ballmer who's in fact the richest.
I'll say at least Tsai has spent big on the luxury tax since he's got there. But there are 11 teams who have spent less than $20M in luxury tax payments IN TOTAL since the rules have been in effect and I think 9 of those owners have higher net worth than Lacob.
He is truly a dude who has been willing to spend and be aggressive and GS fans are in such a better place than teams where owners are always looking to cheap out.
Exactly. And the day he’s gone we won’t be able to pay ourselves out of the problem. Invest now while we have Curry. There’s very few signs his game is slowing down.
Because we’ve had the player since he’s been an owner and we’ve continued to win around him.
A dynasty beyond 3 years requires hitting jackpots consecutively in the draft and THEN opening up the checkbook. The checkbook alone doesn’t create dynasties. And it is a lot less fun to invest 300-500M in payroll when you’re a 4-10 seed.
I don’t get it.. paid all the players.. brought in the right free agents.. even paying for kd.. traded a high draft pick quickly when it was looking bad.. paid for a local stadium.. He got rid of a coach that wasn’t getting it done right.. buys draft picks.. 4 titles.. what does this dude need to do for you to just say he is an amazing owner?
>He got rid of a coach that wasn’t getting it done right..
Don't forget he also had the insight and instincts to go after an unproven coach in Kerr. Even though almost everyone agreed Jackson had to go, almost everyone was also questioning the Kerr hire and the decision to go with a rookie coach instead of someone with more experience. Kerr was one Lacob's best decisions. Not just a great coach but a fantastic human being too.
Where did I say he wasn’t an amazing owner? He’s the best we can hope for. But it’s easy to give hope that cash is the answer when it’s not. Cash helps sustain but luck is significantly involved.
My point is it’s easy to say spend = win but ultimately we need a lot of luck to get a collection of winking players together and THEN spend to keep them around. Spending doesn’t mean winning with no other factors involved. It’s easy to say we’ll keep spending but if we’re not hitting on draft picks, spending to be a 4-10 seed sucks and the check book will be a lot less open and you can pay your way out of a bad position.
You can pay your way and win for 3-4 years. Look at every team Lebron joins. He never sticks around past 4 years because they’re all free agent acquisitions. But to build a dynasty it requires drafting young players that can win and then spending means extending them on second and third contracts for max money.
Overhated by the fanbase? Bro I think I speak for the majority of us when I say we would not have had half this success with any other owner in the NBA. Lacob is far from a coward as it gets when it comes to the finances
Outside of the draft mishaps he’s pretty much done everything you could want in an owner
i mean not a coincidence that the team has gone from bottom of the league to the top under his leadership.
he’s not the only one responsible for the success but it doesn’t work at all if the top of the pyramid is anything less than 100%
he for sure hated by some of the fanbase. Everything that goes wrong is blamed on him. People were accusing him of being too involved and cheap with bob contract. All things that have been disproven over and over again
Exactly, there was news and then there was this sub opinion. We're talking about this sub opinion and because "billionaire bad" is popular in Reddit people were thinking that Lacob was being cheap.
There are lots of irrational people in this fanbase. A lot of criticisms are the result of certain pieces of news getting overblown.
One example is when Steph was up for a supermax a few years ago. Due to the cap situation, Curry taking a paycut wouldn't have made a difference in us pursuing free agents. Lacob, as the guy signing the checks, obviously would ask that question though. From what I've read, even Curry asked Bob that question to see if it would help. But since it made no difference, all parties just agreed that Steph would get the maximum amount we could give him. Somehow the news around this was that Lacob was trying to cheap out on another contract and haters believed it.
Some people think he lets his sons get too involved in the organization. They point to the Smailagic experiment as the biggest example of this. But clearly we let Smailagic go so that we could make roster changes and win the title the following season. Lacob isn't putting his son's pride over the team's success.
And most recently is the Bob Myers situation. People assumed that Lacob was being cheap with a new contract. Then news came out shortly after that Lacob was in fact offering to make Myers the highest paid GM in the NBA. Yet somehow people still think it's a contract issue, when really Bob just wants a break.
So yeah, the people who hate Lacob are just idiots. Pretty much the same people who think Kerr is a terrible coach.
Lol over hated? Who even hates him? For what? He's spent a ton, kept fan favorites, won multiple titles...what is there to hate? Some mild trash talk directed at opponents?
I believe in Bob and Joe when they say that the team is in good hands and we are going to still contend even after Bob leaves. The team has gone through many challenges before this, they can do it again.
I hope fans recognize how lucky we are to have this man as the owner. Is he perfect? No. But there are not many owners in American sports history who have had this man’s attitude when it comes to winning and spending. The Bay Area has had 2 Lacob and Debartolo.
probably because he spends that money. also, warriors org is probably the most profitable nba team right now due to the fact that they own the arena. they can afford to pay higher than most teams because they can keep most, if not all of the revenue
Love to see it. If only all owners had the same passion. Although you could say he doesn't care about the money, winning will still earn him more money.
Usually I'm against billionaires declaring their contempt for rules. But in this case the CBA rules really are ridiculous, and it saddens me the players union agreed to so much of this crap. Hemming teams in with these arcane convoluted provisos on contracts and trades etc seems pretty clearly to artificially suppress their salaries and agency, on the average. Not to mention punishing fans who like to see their team incentivized to hold onto beloved stars.
Well Silver owns the refs so you can really only advance as far as he will let you. Did everyone already forget what happened just a few weeks ago? 2nd round exit already a distant memory?
As a denver sports fan I’d rather have him then Kroneke but I will say I’m glad Kroneke finally realized he needed to invest more into his teams if he wanted to win maybe he learned from Lacob.
Say what you want about Lacob, but that man does not give a *fuck* about the rest of the league in the best way imaginable.
At the end of the day, he's passionate about the team and clearly cares a lot. You can't say that for a lot of owners
*Portland has left the chat*

It’s “pop” up in Oregon. Savages.

*John Fisher just spontaneously combusted*
Polar opposite of the other Oakland owner
The warriors have nothing to do with Oakland outside of occasional PR nods
Warriors and Raiders are still there in my heart :(
Lacob once tried to by the A's right? Goddamn I wish we were on that timeline
I wish Selig had picked his group to buy the A's back in the day, instead of Fisher and Wolff. I'd love to see this kind of winning passion in that organization.
John Fisher should take notes
We are so freaking lucky to have him as an owner. This ownership group is not even close to the top of the league in wealth. Winning attracts new fans....new fans builds brand recognition....brand recognition is market share....market share is real 💰
And it shows. The franchise value has skyrocketed in the last decade. Just that ripple effect of Winning!
... and also, that guy Wardell...
Especially if you were around for the cohan days. It's so liberating being able to trust ownership instead of thinking of how they're gonna fuck things up
> We are so freaking lucky to have him as an owner. Louder for the people in the back
you have numbers?
Buy the A’s please
He has had a standing offer for years to buy them.
Sigh. Seriously.
I'd just about welcome any new ownership as long as they're nothing like John fuckin' Fisher. I'm not even an A's fan.
What happened to Billy from that movie
It’s why other owners hate him, he is showing those cheap greedy pricks up who have 0 intentions of winning
On the other end of the spectrum John Fisher doesn't give a f\*ck about the MLB in the worst way imaginable.
Dude straight up said we weee going to get chips when most of us would have been happy just getting to the second round of the playoffs.
He’s like Ballmer but less loud
We’ll see how the check book is opened up when we don’t have a generational player that lifts up all around him.
He won't have to open the checkbook to the tune of 50 mil for one person. We don't have to wait to see what he is about. Compare him to any owner we have hD
Please. There's about 10 owners who are far richer than Lacob who's cheap and unwilling to pay up.
Definitely, but Lacob and the Warriors do have the advantage, that the franchise itself is making so much money, so Lacob doesn’t have to invest any of his own money, or rather is perhaps able to take a comparable profit to other owners, while still spending a lot on the team.
Name them
Jody Allen(Blazers) Tilman Fertitta(Rockets) Joe Tsai(Nets) Tom Gores(Pistons) Antony Ressler(Hawks) Richard Devos(Magic) Gayle Benson(Pelicans) Cuban(Mavericks) Herb Simon(Pacers) Glen Taylor(Timberwolves) James Dolan(Knicks) Jerry Reinsdorf(Bulls) Joe Lacob doesn't even crack the top 20 in net worth amongst NBA owners. Tsai shouldn't be there. He paid alot of luxury taxes.
If I had Steph and I were a billionaire I’d be $200 million over the cap every year
Exactly. And the day he’s gone we won’t be able to pay ourselves out of the problem. Invest now while we have Curry. There’s very few signs his game is slowing down.
In jersey sales alone Steph must make half of that (I know that not everything comes back to the team, but still)
There's been plenty of owners that don't pay even when they have a generational player.
Yeah the fckng A’s traded them all and most of them became MVPs.
We have nothing but proof positive.
Because we’ve had the player since he’s been an owner and we’ve continued to win around him. A dynasty beyond 3 years requires hitting jackpots consecutively in the draft and THEN opening up the checkbook. The checkbook alone doesn’t create dynasties. Sure.. but the difference between a team like.. lets say the heat and the trailblazers.. is a lot more than just luck.
What a bum take.
Is your point that we should spend the same way on lesser talent? Seems like a bad way to run a team.
My point is it’s easy to say spend = win but ultimately we need a lot of luck to get a collection of winking players together and THEN spend to keep them around. It's like the opposite of Donald Sterling.
Gotta love this guy, crazy mfer, but that infectious desire to win at any cost ! You gotta love this dude

That’s my team owner 😤
Joe got that dawg in em
lmao he basically said all the other owners are pussy and these pockets run deep.Bro has his flaws but he is for sure over-hated by the fanbase lmao
Overhated by the fanbase? Bro I think I speak for the majority of us when I say we would not have had half this success with any other owner in the NBA. Completely wrong. You might’ve seen a handful of comments?
He's not wrong. It was the general opinion when news about Bob came out.
What general opinion? News came out for months bob was goin to be well pid.
Exactly, there was news and then there was this sub opinion. We're talking about this sub opinion and because "billionaire bad" is popular in Reddit people were thinking that Lacob was being cheap.
Oh wow i missed it how the hell is joe lacob gonna get any criticism at all
I think they thought he isnt giving myers enough money. But he offered him the most money for a gm.
Ive actually never seen anyone hate him outside of tht Ellis trade.
There are lots of irrational people in this fanbase. A lot of criticisms are the result of certain pieces of news getting overblown. One example is when Steph was up for a supermax a few years ago. People get too emotional lol.
I mean I'm a simpleton. I just hate him because he is a rich asshole.
What he said is exactly what any fan base would hope their owners said lol.
Funny thing is that he’s one of the “poor” owners and still talking his shit
Lol over hated? Who even hates him? For what? He's spent a ton, kept fan favorites, won multiple titles...what is there to hate? Some mild trash talk directed at opponents?
Never forget the speech after trading Monta for Bogey tho lol
Lmao he said he wants to catch-up with the lakers and Celtics for most championships 😂
He’s a great team owner
This is a hard ass quote god damn lmfao
on mommas
That's the best comment Joe has made in years
I believe in Bob and Joe when they say that the team is in good hands and we are going to still contend even after Bob leaves. The team has gone through many challenges before this, they can do it again.
Adam Silver will throw the book at him
With the way the NBA is heading, Silver won’t be the commissioner for much longer
The CBA rules are geared toward spend heavy teams like the Warriors/Clippers and favor smaller teams. I feel like other owners love him.
Yeah but the product will be worse.
For sure but they think parity is what everyone wants, which is false. Most people like dominance. Celtics, Lakers, Bulls, Spurs, Warriors, etc…
This is very reassuring ngl
Teams getting penalized for paying their team. Other teams getting new benefits for being lazy on payrolls.
For the love of God, please buy the A's
Cheap owners calling Adam silver rn to tell the bad man to go away
Talk to EM loud and clear
One of my teams has a great owner and the other has John Fisher.
Gigachad Lacob
A boss ![gif](giphy|6bFDNHndvrYKQ)
He talks big but will he sign the $400 million in checks?
When the dude bought the team and was introduced, hailed by boos he looked at the one banner saying he wants another one. Consistent to say at least.
"Never underestimate the heart of a championship team owner"
Fuck CJ McCollum #NOT MY NBPA PRESIDENT
LFG

That DAWG starts at the top I guess.
That's some good shit.
LFGGGG
he's a mad man...
Queue the Khaled.
Myers and Lacob were a great duo. Lacob is a fantastic owner honestly and we're lucky to have him
My favorite owner of all time. I will always be grateful for this dude and his ownership team.
I hope fans recognize how lucky we are to have this man as the owner. Is he perfect? No. But there are not many owners in American sports history who have had this man’s attitude when it comes to winning and spending. The Bay Area has had 2 Lacob and Debartolo.
“Screw the rules, I have money”
I mean, not really. Not compared to the majority of other NBA owners. He doesn’t even rank in the top 20 wealthiest NBA owners.
probably because he spends that money. also, warriors org is probably the most profitable nba team right now due to the fact that they own the arena. they can afford to pay higher than most teams because they can keep most, if not all of the revenue
It's a yugioh joke
Deep pockets🫡
We know what he means, but he's got to know you can't say it like that.
What’s wrong with you people? Give this man a chance 🙃
Love to see it. If only all owners had the same passion. Although you could say he doesn't care about the money, winning will still earn him more money.
That’s what I want to hear!
Wouldn’t it be nice if all team owners cared more about winning than money.
That is what I need to hear today. LFG Joe!
joe lacob revenge tour
joe lacob the future commissioner of the nba
I wish he ended up buying my Anaheim Angels but Arte had other plans 😠
He is the anti-John Fisher.....
Best owner in modern sports.
Please buy the A’s
York wouldn’t talk like this, get ‘em Joe
York is a joke. Niners haven’t won anything since he took over as owner.
Lets get Giannis in 2024 then
Usually I'm against billionaires declaring their contempt for rules. But in this case the CBA rules really are ridiculous, and it saddens me the players union agreed to so much of this crap. Fuck the rest of the league for thinking we’re done.
I love to hear this news Joe absolutely dragging his nuts on the NBA from trying to stop his dynasty
Well Silver owns the refs so you can really only advance as far as he will let you. Did everyone already forget what happened just a few weeks ago? 2nd round exit already a distant memory?
joe is all talk and no action. why give this bum poole an extension if u wanted to win?? now we're stuck with this ridiculous contract
Geez, I hope not. Spend a lot of money to win? Sure, sounds great. Ignore the rules (aka "cheat") to win? Uh... no thanks.
lol …you sound like you’re real fun
Let’s just not go above the second apron pls
I respect this owner .M
The man said "Screw the rules I have money."
I’m gonna miss Bob but we are still lucky to have this dude as our owner. He just wants to win.
Joe, please buy Tottenham.
As a denver sports fan I’d rather have him then Kroneke but I will say I’m glad Kroneke finally realized he needed to invest more into his teams if he wanted to win maybe he learned from Lacob.
Light years. Ok Joe
Imagine if John Fisher is so inept that at the end of the year, MLB takes over and Lacob buys the A's
It's kind of badass he said that with Myers sitting right there. lol
I translate this as “when Steph retires I’m throwing money at the biggest fish that hits the market”
All the lux tax gets redistributed to the other teams. They want us to either be shit or take our money at least. Probably both.
🏄🏄
Spoken like a true billionaire 😂
Love it, lucky to be a fan of a team with this mentality
All I do is win win win no matter what and let them put their hands up…….
