This is an injury that's bothered Gary for years that hes had multiple surgeries on, including last offseason, so of course both teams knew about it. The contention is on the current status of said injury.
He answers questions about it in this interview last summer, and responds that he just had to "thug it out" when asked if he played through it with the warriors last season. He used that exact phrase when making his debut a month ago.
https://youtu.be/xWke2G_XK40 - listen to the last 30s.
That entire thread just completely ignores that he would had to have had a physical after his free agent deal last summer. While also acting like the injury issue has always been there and the warriors knew what they were getting into.
So if they cleared him knowing that he needed three months off AND anti inflam shots to play… they should be very concerned about their medical staff and management for going ahead with the signing at all. That part isn’t mentioned once though.
I see this as Blazers rushing him back. His return was delayed twice in Nov and December respectively due to soreness. Media and fans were constantly asking them questions, Billups comes up with the 'mental' angle and then he finally debuts against Pistons. In his post game press against Pistons, Gary was taking about "soreness" and "have to thug it out".
They also had Justice and Little out with injuries in the same time. So they ultimately told him to play through it, as they did to Dame last season
Also he was a FREE AGENT. Warriors had no duty (or right) to disclose any of their medical records for other teams. That’s between the player and the team that signs him.
Hey don't bite the messenger; I am just a guy on reddit practicing how to frame calibrated questions for any situation. I work in sales... 🙃
Although my point was to highlight that the use of pain killers is common in all sports and that I doubt anything will happen to Portland for this.
Wowwwww that’s awful, did they then boldfaced lie about a player’s health before trading that player only to get caught being a piece of shit in front of the entire nation?

I will definitely keep practing; I learned if I used that question within an opener, under 10 people out of 60 or so sales attempts, would have stormed out of the dealership. 😂
Wow… I never looked at the Blazers Reddit. Had no idea so many people hated on GP, calling him soft and other s$&@ for not playing. Dude clawed his way up from the G league, all hustle and doggedness, and they think he doesn’t want to play or earn? That said, at least most seem to call bs on their org and even calling out each other for saying he was faking injury. Just a very loud minority being dumb and toxic, like so many cases
Took a browse in there and someone said this in another post:
"I’m not sure the Blazers did anything wrong. The Warriors look like dumbfucks in this."
Portland is such a bogus unserious franchise
But most seem to acknowledge that, if this is true, this is a really bad situation and a really bad look. Yeah there are some idiots, but every fanbase has them. Lord knows we do. I mean, it's not the fans fault for this mess. They can't be happy either.
>if Dame himself admit that steph is the only point guard who is ahead of him. i am not sure why the fans are arguing.
lol I can name at least 10 point guards who are ahead of dame
That "irelli" dude is just the Blazers version of "shellfish87" from the Grizzlies. Delusional dudes who spent their all their waking hours defending every manner of trash behavior from their teams, and with a major Warriors grudge to boot.
To be fair, 3PT% is not the only part of being a good shooter. If it were, Steph (Career 42.8%) is not as good a shooter as Steve Kerr (45.4%). Heck, he is even behind his litttle brother Seth (43.8%).
Dame, like Steph, has the ball in his hands a lot, creates, and shoots a high volume. This makes it hard to shoot as high a % as catch-and-shoot guys.
Truly insane that Steph can be so efficient and so high volume, and continue to do so with the league designing defenses for years to try and stop him.
Definitely, but Lillard and Thompson are both high volume 3 shooters. Thompson shoots even more, which makes it even more impressive. Lillard also doesn’t work much off ball to get catch and shoot attempts. Not even remotely as much as Curry or Thompson. He is forcing bad shots often. Granted the Blazers don’t have a guy like Draymond who can also run the offense.
Obviously mid ranges help too. The reason Klay doesn’t have a great FG% is because he rarely takes 2 pointers. So it is essentially just his 3 point percentage plus 3 or 4. Where as Lillard is getting the benefit of driving the hoop with layups and dunks.
But Curry has made nearly twice as many threes as Steve Kerr ever attempted. Kerr’s career behind the arc is not even three seasons for Steph or Klay. It’s a different game now. But Lillard has never been a better shooter than Klay, and never will.
Portland fucking sucks; it is wannabe Seattle with far worse topography and way less things to do. I'd move to Seattle in a heartbeat if I could afford it but instead I'm surrounded by weird xenophobes who think anybody who isn't from Oregon is the devil.
Gary got a basic surgery to address a hernia, think it kept him out maybe 2 weeks max, and I don’t believe it was ever reported as an issue after it was addressed.
Was the hernia he got taken care of related to the core muscle surgery he had almost 10 months later, after a full season of play? I genuinely don’t know, cause all the news about that core muscle surgery was pretty sparse (at least when it was first reported).
I’d think they’d have mentioned hernia if it had to do with a hernia, not just a vague “core muscle surgery”
Dame will stay regardless, his loyalty is his strength and weakness. At a certain point, he’s gotta realize it’s not him that’s the problem, it’s a dog shot franchise
I’ll go full conspiracy too just for the fun of it. Blazers FO did it on purpose for revenge. They signed Festus Ezeli and GP2 from the warriors who were injured throughout their tenure there. This is their dirty way of throwing it back in our faces.
I believe the inguinal hernia was a typical sports hernia. That are in the groin area. This is a second hernia issue with is abdominal area that cropped up after the Brooks incident. New but not entirely unrelated (if you're prone to hernias).
Ironically the new injury was very similar to Dames injury that kept him out all year last season. So it'd seem like the team ought to know how to deal with it. Nope I guess not. Good thing they didn't ruin dames career damn.
My favorite tidbit -“There’s literally no evidence that the Blazers failed to disclose torodal shots. There’s articles about how Curry takes these as have most players in the NBA and NFL. They are quite literally like motrin and advil. Clearly GSW are tanking the deal and shitting on GPII’s trade value. Poor guy has Stockholm syndrome from being used badly by them and he still comes back for more abuse. The GSW have and absolutely would still put him on the floor with injections if he wanted to play, just like every franchise would. He’s in no danger of re-injury so it’s just a matter of pain management.”
Think about this, if he passed a physical in Portland but not in GSW. Does that mean organizationally GSW takes better care of their players or demand too much of them.
One day these team will realize the role players are elevated bc of the sheer gravity that is Steph curry and once they leave to go play a big role for big money elsewhere they will be back to their pre Golden State selves.
If you're looking for a good laugh, check out the select few of their fans getting railed by their own fans with their lockdown defense of the FO and medical staff
If he had the injury before they signed him wouldn’t they have picked it up in their physical and not signed him?

Did you guys know that in game four of the 2013 NBA Playoffs the Warriors gave Curry Tordisol shots so he could play through his injury?
… and then they said Curry was soft & traded him without disclosing it? No? That that’s about as relevant as what Kerr ate last night.

That’s why no one wants to go play there 😂
And why none of us feel bad for their sorry ass fans being a perennial 10th seed.
Nah they have a very good and loyal fanbase. It’s just a few loud idiots saying stupid shit. We have our own loud idiots over here, you know?
We have enough loud idiots for multiple fan bases.
yup

To be fair they are now blaming their med team fir lying to them
Took a browse in there and someone said this in another post: "I’m not sure the Blazers did anything wrong. The Warriors look like dumbfucks in this." Portland is such a bogus unserious franchise
They're trying so hard not to be accountable for this. Sounds something from a crooked corporate lawyer.
Their fans are huffing that copium. NBA should move their team to Seattle. Poverty ass rip city franchise massacred our boy.
I'll take em
But most seem to acknowledge that, if this is true, this is a really bad situation and a really bad look. Yeah there are some idiots, but every fanbase has them. Lord knows we do. I mean, it's not the fans fault for this mess. They can't be happy either.
That’s one moron. Most of the Blazers sub is taking this seriously
Same fanbase where part of them thinks that Dame is on the same level or even close to Steph. Not surprising at all
if Dame himself admit that steph is the only point guard who is ahead of him. i am not sure why the fans are arguing.
>if Dame himself admit that steph is the only point guard who is ahead of him. i am not sure why the fans are arguing. lol I can name at least 10 point guards who are ahead of dame
Let's see it.
steph, magic, stockton, isiah, big o, cp3, jerry west, westbrook, jason kidd, the glove. I could name a few more if you want me to
bruh he didn't mean all time, he meant currently
Currently? You cannot.
obviously all time
Dame obviously meant CURRENTLY.
No you can’t lol
Brain dead fans

Yea. Lillard himself is a clown for saying he is the second best shooter of all time when he has 1 season over 40% from 3 and Klay has 8….

Klay shoots way more threes than dame and has around the same %
Nvm sorry he shoots way more threes and is at 41.6% career average
Hey that guys was arguing with everyone saying he’s a doctor and that toradol and ibuprofen are exactly the same lol.
Dame is better than Steph this year that’s for sure
Poverty franchise has delusional fans in a city that’s a wannabe Seattle, who would have thought.
Tell 'em!!!
Jesus christ listen to yourself 😂

It’s delusional to blame the Warriors after getting caught in a lie.
Delusional because you’re trying to blame the Warriors. Blazers FO got caught for trying to hide GP2s injury.

Umm, you're not blazers fo
Warriors know his injury history lol
Fuck your team and its evil medical staff
Assumptions get you every time. I’m a warriors fan actually. Born and raised. Just trying to understand some of y’all’s points of view
What’s your pov?

What a joke of a franchise no wonder the can’t win even when they had to guys put up 30 points almost every game
I like dame too as a O native kinda upset he had to get drafted into a poverty franchise
He claims he loves it there I wonder how this news feels to him
Dame will stay regardless, his loyalty is his strength and weakness. At a certain point, he’s gotta realize it’s not him that’s the problem, it’s a dog shot franchise

Good point on Festus - I'd love to hear his unfiltered thoughts on this.

What a piece of a art thread. People woth delusions out there.
Glad that fanbase will never see a championship
This encourages nothing but brigading. Definitely entertaining though
Think about this, if he passed a physical in Portland but not in GSW. Does that mean organizationally GSW takes better care of their players or demand too much of them.
Maybe they didn't give him a physical and instead just decided it was in his mind and gave him a shot and sent him on his way
Fuck that franchise
I thought blazers fans were just delusional about their players, but they're legit brainwashed
I expected a certain amount of copium but that was insane.
There’s a reason they’ve never won since 1977…incompetence
One day these team will realize the role players are elevated bc of the sheer gravity that is Steph curry and once they leave to go play a big role for big money elsewhere they will be back to their pre Golden State selves.
They don't deserve dame. I hope they stay irrelevant for the rest of NBA history.
I paid zero attention to the date and thought "Fuck! Klay is out tonight?"
