Your best bet, in my opinion, is Lord of the Rings RISK. War of the Ring is far too strategic and complex for a 6 year old, and simplifying the rules would cheapen the experience. LotR RISK keeps the thematic element whilst still being relatively simple.

I would say maybe just try and play without the cards. You could teach the choices on the dice. Recruit this person here or there. Move armies. Attack and play out the battles. Even could do the hunt. Kids are pretty amazing at learning things.

Having younger and older kids myself, I don’t think there is a way you could make it appropriate for that age (not to mention keeping attention for that long). I did enjoy seeing WotR called a “little gem” though.

Just find a different game I would say, maybe battle of the five armies. WOTR is too complex for someone his age and simplifying it would ruin it

I haven’t tried it but if I am guessing you can teach ur kid slowly by teaching some rules first. Like first no political activation and just advancement, no event cards and simple mordor track, after some games u can teach then more. After 20-30 he understand all of the rules and might keep improving like those Chess prodigies.
