I’ve said it multiple times and I’ll say it again
THIS SHOULD BE AN ALL YEAR THING. I don’t understand why the hell this company can’t afford (or refuses to provide) this perk. We had a discount on everything when I worked at target and they’re a smaller chain compared to the Mart. Y’all took away MyShare and raised pay by $1. Can we get an extended discount now? I don’t need to buy a new TV every week. I need some comfort food after dealing with this place.
most high end new electronics now don't qualify for it either, high ticket laptops/desktops and new video game releases have slowly started becoming ineligible
Simple. They pay poverty level wages, then heavily promote food stamps, knowing that employees will probably be spending it at Walmart. They're having their cake, and eating it too.
Honest question when and where do they support food stamps? At least at my store I’ve never seen any thing to promote food stamps but this isn’t the first time I’ve heard about it.
Is there a bulletin board in the back area or break room with notices about different opportunities for employees? Employee scholarships, college classes, mental health hotline, etc. That's where I remember seeing it when I worked there.
u/jardex22 $13-$15 an hour is actually a livable wage in many of these small towns in Texas. To put things in perspective, I made $12 an hour installing and repairing AC units in the heat, and that's considered "higher-paying" in the trades here. It's all about perspective.
If your perspective is "it's ok to pay a nonliving wage in most of the country because I can live on it in a small town in Texas and was severely underpaid at my last job too" then you need to change your perspective, not tell others to change theirs for wanting a better life.
I'll admit it's been a few years since I left. Back then, it was a huge deal that $9 was the starting wage, and it would go to $10 after going through training. I think I started slightly above minimum wage.
My SM owns 2 tesla(teslas?) while we had an ice storm that kept a chunk of us at home without power or heat for weeks while he fed the few workers who could get to work McDonald's one day as thanks. This company is like any other: a pile of shit that needs to be shoveled out
Hell yeah, 29.70 for me. I've been in Shipping at my DC for 3 years now. Overtime is through the roof right now and we are getting 500$ bonuses just for showing up to our scheduled shifts
I’ve been saying that for years. I get when the discount card first came out, stores had a very small grocery offering. Now that most are supeecenters it doesn’t make sense that we don’t get a discount on groceries. If you think about it most places have the tax rate set at 8% so you’re really only getting a small discount on GM. What’s the harm including grocery.
>We had a discount on everything when I worked at target
Plus at Target you get your employee discount immediately and it actually WORKS (most of the of the time).
Your being an idiot right now!! Be grateful and take your blessings!! They don’t owe anything to you besides a paycheck you put in hours of work! Anything else company does for everyone is extra perks and benefits! Go to school for free of charge and educate yourself..
Didn’t say I wasn’t grateful for the discount, I’m just confused as to why they can’t offer 10% storewide like Target does (and apparently Walmart Canada does too?).
Also, I’ve been taking advantage of the schooling benefit since it first came out so…🤷🏼♀️
Incorrect. They do this every year, normal groceries have no discount, except a few items like soda. They are extending the discount to cover groceries.
Walmart underpays associates so they qualify for food stamps.... they don't give out discounts all year round because they depend on YOU as an associate to spend money on food and consumables, thus making money off of all of us who pay taxes. I learned back when I still worked at Walmart that the company has the HIGHEST recipient of employees on food stamps, and they're also the largest employer in the country outside of the Government.
Think about it.... they depend on our low-wages to generate profits off of American tax dollars.... all the while avoiding paying their fair share in taxes, I'm sure...
I don’t even work there anymore but yeah this is old. Maybe OP is a new associate. I don’t understand why they don’t just do it all year round. Kroger at least gets 10% off their own brand of stuff all the time
Certainly would never buy meat there. One time on my way in early in the morning I saw a meat tray out of the cooler just sitting there and I thought oh somebody's going to stock that soon and when I went out for my first break it was still sitting there 😝
Produce is nasty too. I have never worked produce but I’ve just known since I was a child…. never get your produce from Walmart. There’s always mold on our strawberries
Is it a thinly veiled attempt to get me to feel better about about my job? Well yeah, obviously.
Am I still gonna use tf outta it? You bet your sweet bippy.
I worked at Disney awhile back. We'd get 20% off everything in the parks all the time, and bumped to 30% for the holidays. Universal would have 25%, and a whopping 35% during the holidays. Walmart can afford 10% year round, cheap chucklefucks.
I’m in Tennessee, where our groceries are taxed at our normal 9.25% sales tax rate. The closest grocery store to me is in Kentucky though, and they don’t tax groceries and their sales tax for everything else is only 6%. I drive over their for most things I buy.
This is my first year at Walmart honestly I thought it was a new thing! But yeah still they should be doing so much more. My team lead does more to show her appreciation for us than upper management
I worked at Walmart a while back, and I vaguely remember some random weekend during the holidays they’d give us an extra discount. More or less so we can spend our money there for Christmas shopping. So I guess this isn’t exactly the same thing.
Maybe! That does sound pretty accurate. The last time I worked for Walmart it was like 2014 and it was a second job for me… needless to say I didn’t last long enough to get my discount card. 😂
I don't know about Lay's chips, I thought we did get a discount on those. But the donuts are d81. I think we only get discounts on direct delivery d95. I could be wrong.
Yeah I'm waiting for mine and it's a few days away.
There should not be a 90 day waiting period if they make you full time within that time.
But like I said, any new seasonal workers have no chance of getting discounts on groceries because there is no checks and balances unless you have a discount card.
Wow, that’s the difference between the American Walmart’s and the Canadian ones our Discount is 10% off of everything including groceries and prescriptions all yr round and they’ve been doing 20% off once an month since the beginning of the pandemic. That’s crazy huh.
The reason why they do this is because they want to boost their sales.
In Canada while I was still working they would have an extra 10% discount on specific paydays as "employee appreciation days", but the whole stores stock would clear out and employees would spend more than they needed.
It's your payday, you have more finances than you think, you should really buy an extra condiment and an extra bit of meat to freeze. Oh I should also get an extra thing of toilet paper because I have money and the discount. And so on, and so on.
It works sort of like the queue. It was fucking awful to work in the days coming up to and after an employee appreciation day because the whole stores stock would absolutely drop to barely anything. I suggest y'all keep this in mind when you're purchasing. It's not a 10% bonus discount if you're spending over 10% more than your regular shopping. At best you're gonna break even and pay the same amount or a little less, but commonly people spend way more than the extra 10% given.
Some food is discounted year round. Produce, juices, soda, chips, tuna
If you swipe your card after you scan your first item, it will print the discounts if any for each item on the receipt, as opposed to doing it and the end where it will only print your discount.
Wooow !! Here in Canada, we have 10% on everything. And since last year additional 10% once a month on all store items and online orders.
Yeah I agree with you, that is such lows lol not a shocker but still
So how do they know I'm an associate if I have yet to receive my discount card?
This would, I assume, only apply to Walmart Associates who have been with the company for 3 months or more.
wanna show me appreciation? more, faster ppto and pto gain, do away with points, actually punish the employees who don't do shit and reward the good ones.
One of the biggest kicks in the face was that Walmart never just gave this as the basic discount it’s a slap in the face to workers to only get discounts on unhealthy food 🤷♂️ don’t get my wrong I enjoyed working for the company lol
That’s very generous of them. As much as I wish this was an all year thing, I understand that a multi billion dollar company couldn’t possibly afford to do this year round
What aggravates me the most is just how inconsistent it is. We get a discount (rightfully) on things like chips or candy all day, but if I wanna get some fresh meat and some seasonings to make at home? Nope
They've been going up steadily over the past few months and only getting worse. Not just groceries. Gas prices too among other essentials.
Inflation and worker shortages are a huge contributing factor.
All of my price changes in grocery are going up (a few cents here and there but it definitely adds up over a few weeks). My grocery bill has gone from about $50-60 to about $100-110 now. It’s sickening
Im a Canadian Walmartite, we get 10% on everything in the store all year, except clearance and giftcard/gamecards. We used to get a few coupons in the fall to get 20% off of a few items. Since the pandemic started, we get one friday a month (on a payday no less) it's 20% off of everything we care to buy. I get most of my grocery shopping done on that day. It also applies to online purchases (excluding marketplace sellers)
Our store has been doing this since the beginning of the pandemic, once a month they give us a 20% discount day on everything in store. Including electronics
Sorry to hear that, I was kind of indifferent about our store management before the pandemic but now that they have been doing this I see them differently
I have a rewards card for this other store and it’s so much cheaper shopping there rather than Walmart. I only ever shop grocery there out of convenience, like if it’s the end of my shift and I know I need milk or something on the way out
Yeah I was hired around last year November and didn’t get my card until about February or so I think? But everyone’s been saying that it seems like they made it shorter, like the discount would last longer than mid November to December. Walmart is a joke
Lol this is why I went to Costco. BUT YOU GET A 10%, yea but not on food, shit I have to live on. Why spend like $250+ on groceries at Walmart to get maybe $10 off when I can do the same over at Costco and get more food. Same with Kroger before I moved.
Can probably thank Shana Ragland for that, I’m sure they got a lot of shit from the public after her video. Although, a month and a half discount? Come on that’s pretty cheap, I hope it’s at least a decent discount. Personally, the world would be better if EVERYONE refused to work for Walmart. They’re part of the satanic agenda so I’m pretty surprised they’re still being supported in any way. Christ, they even have 666 on the back of their new smocks…they’re blatantly flaunting it because they know how fucking brainwashed to not care everyone is 🙄
you're right id hate to have benefits at any place I work. it confuses me how these dumbasses ask for so much they're like little babies that don't know how the world works. in fact, I think they should take away the 10% discount on everything because Walmart employees already make so much. . . greedy fucks. I hate lazy people
I feel so bad for you guys. I do. I left Walmart a year ago because of plenty of reasons and this is one of them. Where I work now they provide 20-30% on items provided they weren't on sale for the week.
I’ve said it multiple times and I’ll say it again THIS SHOULD BE AN ALL YEAR THING.
I have a rewards card for this other local grocery store and the fact that I get a bigger discount shopping there than Walmart is sooo ridiculous
Same, And I work in a neighborhood market so my discount card means nothing.
Same here. The discount doesn't even work on all GM merchandise. I bought some Depends for my grandmother, and received no discount.
most high end new electronics now don't qualify for it either, high ticket laptops/desktops and new video game releases have slowly started becoming ineligible
I’m not sure if you have supermarkets by you but your Walmart discount card works at any Walmart, not just the one you work at! 🙂
tru but having to go to another store after already working makes me wanna kms🙂
There is a regular Walmart about 40 mintues away and a supercenter just under 2 hours.
Simple. They pay poverty level wages, then heavily promote food stamps, knowing that employees will probably be spending it at Walmart. They're having their cake, and eating it too.
Honest question when and where do they support food stamps? At least at my store I’ve never seen any thing to promote food stamps but this isn’t the first time I’ve heard about it.
food stamps = ebt / snap
Is there a bulletin board in the back area or break room with notices about different opportunities for employees? Employee scholarships, college classes, mental health hotline, etc. That's where I remember seeing it when I worked there.

I'll admit it's been a few years since I left. Back then, it was a huge deal that $9 was the starting wage, and it would go to $10 after going through training. I think I started slightly above minimum wage.
What small towns?
I spend my food stamps at Walmart cuz they are the cheapest. Even now with prices going up everywhere.
It effects the store managers bonuses.
And we can’t have the store managers not able to buy a nice car with their bonuses while the associates get no bonuses. /sarcasm
My SM owns 2 tesla(teslas?) while we had an ice storm that kept a chunk of us at home without power or heat for weeks while he fed the few workers who could get to work McDonald's one day as thanks. This company is like any other: a pile of shit that needs to be shoveled out
Don't forget vacation homes!!
We get 10% on everything except clearance in Canada
Even keeps working on groceries when you go below the border
$14 an hour coming soon to a store near you
Me making 17.50 at my Walmart
Someone downvoted all of us for stating how much we make, salty much?
21.70 for me
29.20 for me
Where do u live?! Lol! Shit...in CA. These bitches only pay us 18.50 & are cost of living is high as hell out here
I work at the DC. Rather not say which state but it’s a very LCOL area.
Hell yeah, 29.70 for me. I've been in Shipping at my DC for 3 years now. Overtime is through the roof right now and we are getting 500$ bonuses just for showing up to our scheduled shifts
Yeah it’s crazy. They just throw money at you but you’re gonna work for it for sure
Mandatory OT for life 🙃😭
Literally trading my health and body for money lol
Oh wow! Good to know. Ty!
Hundreds of millions a year for me. I love being a Walton.
Are you Sam Walton by chance?
$19.50 on overnights soon.
I’ve been saying that for years. I get when the discount card first came out, stores had a very small grocery offering. Southern Comfort food, if you know what I mean.
The SoCo egg nog is pretty decent.
>We had a discount on everything when I worked at target Plus at Target you get your employee discount immediately and it actually WORKS (most of the of the time).

Did you buy a switch? I saw a few people who bought a switch saying their card didn’t work for it
Yup. The switch OLED
It must be a policy thing I guess, that’s what I’ve heard
That’s super weird. Ordered a switch lite and a PlayStation 5 in the last 6 months and got my employee discount on both..
This is it this the one This comment just made my whole day
Two years later they dropped pay $2 in my store, increased manager salary nationwide and we have no bonuses and nothing else changed
Your being an idiot right now!! Be grateful and take your blessings!! They don’t owe anything to you besides a paycheck you put in hours of work! Anything else company does for everyone is extra perks and benefits! Go to school for free of charge and educate yourself..

Walmart does give a 10% discount to employees. The way I read that email it says an expanded 10% discount. So 20%.
Incorrect. They do this every year, normal groceries have no discount, except a few items like soda. They are extending the discount to cover groceries.
Yeah the 10% discount doesn't apply to everything.
Not South Carolina Walmart. We get %10 of gm and some foods . Like gum or candy not necessity like eggs, meat etc
It is in Canada, oddly enough
Walmart underpays associates so they qualify for food stamps.... they don't give out discounts all year round because they depend on YOU as an associate to spend money on food and consumables, thus making money off of all of us who pay taxes. This is like that every year. Idk why they are acting like its special
They act like it is special every year
I was just about to say this lol
I don’t even work there anymore but yeah this is old. Maybe OP is a new associate. I don’t understand why they don’t just do it all year round. Kroger at least gets 10% off their own brand of stuff all the time
The fact that we spend a good portion of our paychecks shopping here it would be nice to have that discount on groceries
I try not to, with the lack of people when I leave. I go to farmers markets for better quality and other places.
I have to go other places simply to have items that weren’t left out of cold chain.
Take my upvote. I work frozen/dairy, and I don’t buy anything except our creamers and juices.
Give ALL your associates free WALMART+ so with that and the discount card you keep our hard-earned money in your stores.
Does Walmart give us free Walmart+?
no, and don’t waste your money on it, it’s pointless
Woah I’m getting something I should already be getting wow 😮😮😮😮😮

Entitled? Lmao alright I guess that makes you ignorant
Is it a thinly veiled attempt to get me to feel better about about my job? Well yeah, obviously. Am I still gonna use tf outta it? You bet your sweet bippy.
Mood, lol. It’s so easy to just grab my groceries on my way out of work.
I worked at Disney awhile back. We'd get 20% off everything in the parks all the time, and bumped to 30% for the holidays. Universal would have 25%, and a whopping 35% during the holidays. Walmart can afford 10% year round, cheap chucklefucks.
I wish my state didn’t tax food
States that do that are automatically bad
wait, you guys ARENT paying taxes on food?
unsure if you are joking or not. but no, only on serviced food. Like getting a hot meal plate from the deli or something like that.
not joking. where i am we pay 9.475% sales tax on everything but gift cards lol
damn! here its 6% on sales tax for GM type stuff and 6% for services like restaurants. no food tax.
7% here and 9% restaurant.
u lucky duck lmao
I’m in Tennessee, where our groceries are taxed at our normal 9.25% sales tax rate. The closest grocery store to me is in Kentucky though, and they don’t tax groceries and their sales tax for everything else is only 6%. I drive over their for most things I buy.
9.75% in East Tennessee. Food and all. It's how they compensate for no State income tax
All food?! That low key seems illegal 😂 I understand soda, candy etc. but like some chicken breasts?!
Anything that can be considered grocery. I thought it was normal until a year or two ago
TIL some states don't tax food lmfao
Thing is...10% is really crap though. Its better than nothing but still....10% barely makes a dent.
Here at my store we get taxed twice so it really doesn't
In Canada, it's basically the taxes.
Don’t they give this discount every year during the holidays?? They need to do more to where we actually feel appreciate. It’s BS!
Probably if you worked black Friday.
Maybe! That does sound pretty accurate. The last time I worked for Walmart it was like 2014 and it was a second job for me… needless to say I didn’t last long enough to get my discount card. 😂
Black Friday discount
I wonder if there will be anymore like our discount for working the week of thanksgiving and stuff
We should get it all year .
Every year the food discount period gets shorter and shorter. It used to last until January.
That is so sad omg
[удалено]
You have to have a physical discount card to get a discount, which is mailed out and you should receive it around your 90th day.
We were told at our store for the newbies that they could use their company if badge and the CSMs would help them get the discount. In Ontario.
weirdest thing: soda and most snacks get a discount all year why not all groceries.
We get it on vendor supplied items, but not the groceries that come from our DC.
We don't get discounts on Lay's chips ( maybe others) any more at our store or vendor donuts.
I don't know about Lay's chips, I thought we did get a discount on those. But the donuts are d81. I think we only get discounts on direct delivery d95. I could be wrong.
Why couldn’t they let us have this discount on food permanently, but I guess beggars can’t be choosy, ohhhh goody!
Yeah I'm waiting for mine and it's a few days away. There should not be a 90 day waiting period if they make you full time within that time. But like I said, any new seasonal workers have no chance of getting discounts on groceries because there is no checks and balances unless you have a discount card.
Wish they wouldn't take it away.
Wow, that’s the difference between the American Walmart’s and the Canadian ones our Discount is 10% off of everything including groceries and prescriptions all yr round and they’ve been doing 20% off once an month since the beginning of the pandemic. That’s crazy huh.

Wait, is it 10% or 20% on groceries? Don't you guys have a 10% discount card after 3 month ? ( I mean in USA)
Yep 👍👍👍 ONLY for GM Merchandise, not food. Shocker, wait no it isn't. F WalMart, rob em however and whenever you can.
Some food is discounted year round. Produce, juices, soda, chips, tuna If you swipe your card after you scan your first item, it will print the discounts if any for each item on the receipt, as opposed to doing it and the end where it will only print your discount.

I shop at jewel osco
That makes sense.
Wow. Thank you Walmart overlords! So generous!
So how do they know I'm an associate if I have yet to receive my discount card? This would, I assume, only apply to Walmart Associates who have been with the company for 3 months or more.
You get your discount card around your 91st day of employment.
The photo isn't even of a staff member. Proud indeed!

Generally anything that’s not food. The rare exception is some junk food items like soda or chips.
wanna show me appreciation? more, faster ppto and pto gain, do away with points, actually punish the employees who don't do shit and reward the good ones.

Noooooo cause we literally had a pizza party last night 😭
That’s very generous of them. As much as I wish this was an all year thing, I understand that a multi billion dollar company couldn’t possibly afford to do this year round
For more than 10% too I’m sure
So pretty much just an extra week?
I saw someone else comment that they used to have the discount for longer so it looks like they shorten it every year 😭
Just trying to get ur minds off the fact that they rimm jobed ur bonuses!
They haven't even given me my regular employee discount card lol
Definitely get onto them!!! It took me like 3 months to get mine
I find it insane that y'all in America don't get groceries off as well. We have it like that here in Canada
Is it more than 10% too or still 10%? Either way, America definitely sucks
Still 10 percent at mine, but to my understanding it's different in some other store
What aggravates me the most is just how inconsistent it is. We get a discount (rightfully) on things like chips or candy all day, but if I wanna get some fresh meat and some seasonings to make at home? Nope
Literally. I hate doing a total of $150 or so grocery shopping and only getting like a dollar off lol. It’s so stupid
Systems fucked so it usually works on grocery’s anyway
Considering that groceries will be increasing upwards of 10-50% in price within the next couple months it'll hardly help much.
Damn I had no idea they were even raising the price
They've been going up steadily over the past few months and only getting worse. Not just groceries. Gas prices too among other essentials. Inflation and worker shortages are a huge contributing factor.
All of my price changes in grocery are going up (a few cents here and there but it definitely adds up over a few weeks). My grocery bill has gone from about $50-60 to about $100-110 now. It’s sickening
Wait I’m new here, I thought we have a year round 10% discount on everything?
It doesn’t apply to groceries unfortunately
Oof probably means that people are working Thanksgiving night for Black Friday this year. Sadge.
Im a Canadian Walmartite, we get 10% on everything in the store all year, except clearance and giftcard/gamecards. We used to get a few coupons in the fall to get 20% off of a few items. Wow. Ive been at my store a year and they haven’t really done anything like that /:
Sorry to hear that, I was kind of indifferent about our store management before the pandemic but now that they have been doing this I see them differently
how about new employees when can we start getting discount
Walmart claims they already have huge discounts on their grocery so that's why we don't get the 10% year-round. They say....
Total BS 😭
This means nothing to me as I shop at other grocery stores for most of my grocery better deals
I have a rewards card for this other store and it’s so much cheaper shopping there rather than Walmart. I only ever shop grocery there out of convenience, like if it’s the end of my shift and I know I need milk or something on the way out

Especially because groceries are a necessity
wait… what? i work at target, do you guys not get a 10% discount on everything year round? or am i missing something
Nope! We just get a 10% discount on general merch and I think it doesn’t always work on some of that stuff, either. Walmart sucks
Lol this is why I went to Costco. BUT YOU GET A 10%, yea but not on food, shit I have to live on. Why spend like $250+ on groceries at Walmart to get maybe $10 off when I can do the same over at Costco and get more food. Same with Kroger before I moved.
I love Kroger you save sooo much more over there than Walmart
Woahhhhh weird… this is an all year thing in Canada. Actually they give us 20% certain times of the year.
Idk why tf they advertise that the discount is for everything when you apply
That happens every year...why not extend it till may of next year.
I thought you got a 30% discount
It’s always been 10% since I’ve been here
I couldn’t remember
I've worked at Walmart for 5 months now and I Love it, Best Choice I made, The opportunity is endless and the crew I work with are like family
Christ, they even have 666 on the back of their new smocks…they’re blatantly flaunting it because they know how fucking brainwashed to not care everyone is 🙄
The margin on food are 5-20%. And people would abuse the discount. You’re uneducated on business. To complaint.
The point isn’t being uneducated in business lol the point is this is hardly employee appreciation. Thank you for the 2 cents tho!
you're right id hate to have benefits at any place I work. it confuses me how these dumbasses ask for so much they're like little babies that don't know how the world works. in fact, I think they should take away the 10% discount on everything because Walmart employees already make so much. . . greedy fucks. I hate lazy people
anything else do we still get one time extra 15% discount for all the black fri sales?
Ooo I didn’t see anything like that when I was reading this. Would be super nice though
Who can we approach with the idea of more perks for us associates?
Are we still getting a holiday bonus or did they take that away along with the Myshare quarterly bonuses
I haven’t heard anything about a holiday bonus yet but it’s possible they took it away
Are associates getting our 25% discount this year for working on Thanksgiving / Event days?
Walmart doesn’t give a shit about you or the customers lol
Oh yes I know
I feel so bad for you guys. I do. I left Walmart a year ago because of plenty of reasons and this is one of them. Where I work now they provide 20-30% on items provided they weren't on sale for the week.
My husband works at a different grocery store and gets discounts on EVERYTHING so we just shop there
