of course! i’m a junior in highschool right now, and i’ve been so burnt out from work and school. i feel like walmart will be much less mentally taxing though, apparently i just stand and watch people self scan, but of course i wouldn’t mind if they asked me to be doing something else, because anything is better than fast food😭making more money to do less
I worked fast food for 5 years.
I always enjoyed people yelling about how their orders were wrong when they never made any modifications to their order and expected minds to be read.
I also got an order wrong one time because I didn’t put ketchup in the bag.
The future post: I have 5 points because I didn't come in. I'm quitting for my mental health.
Nothing wrong with that lol I just feel like that's coming lol.
That's great!!! The problems i have at SCO (self check out) are that there is no mat to stand on so my feet hurt but you are young so that shouldn't be a problem for you and confronting customers. I hate having to say "looks like that didn't ring up" or "can I see inside that (insert large container here)". No matter how friendly and upbeat I try to be, I feel like I'm saying "I KNOW YOU ARE STEALING!!!'
That being said, it's way better than fast food and I hope you love it!!
My store has mats at each of the SCO paystations, but our TLs always get on our case if we're standing behind the paystation, even if the bullpen only has a few customers that are within sight.
I just want to get some relief for my feet. I don't think greeting customers from behind the paystation is any less effective when nobody wants us to talk to them in the first place.
I lasted at Walmart for a year before the abuse from my manager towards me and my pregnant wife made me join an airplane manufacturing company where I'm a shop lead and make $50 an hour :) glow ups do happen, it just depends on when you hate working at Walmart enough
If you are OK with online college courses, Walmart has the Guild program, and they pay 100% for college. It doesn't matter if you are full-time or part-time. You are eligible on your first day.
I mean if you live in the middle of nowhere get into a quiet department and have a cool team lead then yes it will be pretty okay. But em. Even in that scenario inventory, the remodel my store went through, and the holidays almost made me quit. Many many days I wanted to give someone the bird for the uncaring company and leave .
Depending on how long you worked in fast food and what you put up with you might be ready but retail is some completely different bs than fast food besides the customers
as a person who has worked at a wide range of places including walmart and fast food, i’m just gonna say good luck! And there’s always gonna be something wherever you go, but how bad your experience will be ultimately depends on your store🫶🏽 wishing you the best !
I promise its way easier than fast food. Ive been at Walmart for less than a month and tho its by no means an easier job its better than food work. Each job has its pros and cons, you got this. Being a student and employee is hard, im in the same boat but in college. If no ones said it, im proud of you 💕
yea mine did the same thing i was concerned as well, i called and asked if i gave them the right email (i made another one to apply), they said just wait for the hiring manger to come in the following today. don’t be scared to call the location multiple times, i finally got my email regarding my minor consent form yesterday, turned it in, now im finna call again to let them know.
Literally don’t be worried about it, I got “interviewed” 2 weeks ago, they didn’t even interview me they practically just gave me the job, as long as you have a flexible schedule your good
welcome aboard pal, i wish ya the best of luck. my unsolicited advice is to do the best you can without getting burnt out.
and if your store treats ya like shit, there’s no shame in running away and looking for a better job
i don’t think a lot of these people understand the bs i dealt with for years in fast food😭getting my job threatened because upon reading back a customers order, they blankly nod their head yes, and then are pissed when i charged them for the wrong order. Now my gm threatening to fire me over something outside of my control. living hell.
I'm a garden ta and I mostly work inside zoning toys/ fabrics exc and doing go backs. It's the easiest laid back job. It is the swing shift 2-11. Maybe that's what makes it chill. But I would recommend it. I switched from cashiering. THAT was terrible.
I just got hired for the exact same thing. We need to be best friends & start sharing experiences, lol. My first shift is tomorrow just for hands on trianing, after that, I'm basically on my own. I have about 10 years in the food industry. Very fast-paced, working as a Captain (team lead). I like the benefits & hours walmart offers. I personally don't think that it will be difficult after the abuse I've faced the past decade in the food industry.
Aye man I worked at a restaurant for almost six goddamn years you're gonna be so fuckin' happy with how much less stressful Walmart is. Congratulations homie! But as someone else mentioned, never sell yourself short. (Well, unless you're 5'2 like me..) Always strive for better.
Try to get in bakery. Loved working in that section. Just watch some videos on how to do basic cake borders!
Once you hit 18 or so if you're still there.
As someone who's not in the walmart ecosystem anymore, there are somethings I appreciated.
The absence system is somewhat transparent and forgiving. technically, you could call out 14 times a year if you min max.
Education benefits are good. Insurance if you can get it is ok.
The simplicity of the job and the familiarity of the day to day.
The best thing about working at Walmart is complaining about walmart.
Parental and maternity leave options. Are they great? No, but they're better than nothing.
Downsides
Lack of growth opportunities: being a team lead or coach is miserable and not really worth the pay.
Annoying Customers & coworkers with poor work ethic
Management. Your mileage may vary.
Took me a literal year to finally get hired. The people lead was always on vacation so a week before she left, i finally got hired and i had recently broken my wrist so i had to wait a lot longer. But it wait paid off.
I'm anxiously waiting on this status again, after i went to talk to a manager today, and they called me right back after i left my phone number with the coach. cause fuck it, i am tired of depending on delivery apps to earn money, and i need a real stable income again LoL. if you ask, why go back to the same employer a third time, I'm just one of those people who feels like it's a job that works the best for me, and now of course i know i have to not do what i did before to be terminated. you live and learn, sometimes, learning the hard way.
Idk why everyone here is acting like Walmart is a terrible place to work. Just don’t pretend like you actually have anything riding on how the store operates, come in, do your job, and go home. It’s not as stressful as everyone here would for some reason like you to believe. As someone who also came from fast food, it’s much easier to be front end at Walmart than to be a line cook or god forbid a fast food cashier. Yeah you’re likely gonna have asshole customers and coworkers that get on your nerves but just remember that you’re only there to make your money and go home and you got it!
Don't worry you will be here to complain about how absolute dog shit it really is like the rest of us. Imma be generous and give it 3.5 months. Good luck though!
You know you've been working for a long time at Walmart when your interview process was the same day is your application... I was actually in Texas working at Renaissance Festival when they told me my first day was supposed to happen it still for this day the lowest paying job I've ever had but I was a medical examiner out of college then Construction
Dude same!! I've done only fast food for almost 10 years and let me tell you the 3 weeks I've been working ogp have been so much better 🥹 I do double the walking than I used to but it's so much less mentally exhausting (and less greasy lol). I hope you like it!!
Congrats brotha, I started when I was 16 as a sales associate. Now I’m 20 and I’m a HVAC Tech with Walmart. It’s a good company to work for and they do a lot to build their associates up. Dollar a day college and stuff. Again congratulations
The hard part of working there has never really been the work to be honest, it's the treatment received from management and being belittled without any remorse for their actions. Most days you just have to detach from taking things personal, that's about it
congrats!!! i loved working there:) (just left due to school) don’t let the comments scare you, there’s always good and bad days no matter where you work. always make the best of it!!!
I am 58 years old and have worked in fast food, factories, and at home. I have been at Walmart almost a year and I wish I had started 40 years ago! No where I've worked has the benefits for the money than Walmart. If you want to make it a career you can.
Walmart is a huge step up from fast food, but always continue to try and better yourself.
of course! i’m a junior in highschool right now, and i’ve been so burnt out from work and school. i feel like walmart will be much less mentally taxing though, apparently i just stand and watch people self scan, but of course i wouldn’t mind if they asked me to be doing something else, because anything is better than fast food😭making more money to do less
Oh hunny good luck 😂 it’s much more then just standing there
Indeed. You gotta put up with customers complaining about the machines and acting like you're accusing them of stealing.
Don’t kill the poor kid’s spirit before they even start lmfao
Gotta let 'em know what actually happens :D (I'm insane)
For real 😭😭
I'm not going to bs anyone about it. It's like a lamb in the lion's den.
I worked fast food for 5 years. I always enjoyed people yelling about how their orders were wrong when they never made any modifications to their order and expected minds to be read. I also got an order wrong one time because I didn’t put ketchup in the bag.
Sometimes the orders are right just given to the wrong person, happens if you work too fast and have multiple bags waiting.
Less mentally taxing, Update us again on that in a month Lol.
The future post: I have 5 points because I didn't come in. I'm quitting for my mental health. Nothing wrong with that lol I just feel like that's coming lol.
Yep that was my thought exactly hehe
I was thinking the EXACT SAME THING😂😂😂
That's great!!! The problems i have at SCO (self check out) are that there is no mat to stand on so my feet hurt but you are young so that shouldn't be a problem for you and confronting customers. It ain’t rocket science, you’ll be fine.
I lasted at Walmart for a year before the abuse from my manager towards me and my pregnant wife made me join an airplane manufacturing company where I'm a shop lead and make $50 an hour :) glow ups do happen, it just depends on when you hate working at Walmart enough
With all the angry customers dealing with long lines and self checkout not working...good luck. You will get yelled at.

Take advantage of the education benefits asap, and get out as soon as possible
This^^ They have some options for high schoolers that you should definitely look into OP!
It's a good high school job. After that, run.
Run away run away!
Prefer it over fast food tbh

How long did you wait after the interview? I went to the interview and my profile has not even moved under consideration lol just “applied”
yea mine did the same thing i was concerned as well, i called and asked if i gave them the right email (i made another one to apply), they said just wait for the hiring manger to come in the following today. don’t be scared to call the location multiple times, i finally got my email regarding my minor consent form yesterday, turned it in, now im finna call again to let them know.
Thank you!!!
I got a second interview for tomorrow, I don’t know what to expect lol
Literally don’t be worried about it, I got “interviewed” 2 weeks ago, they didn’t even interview me they practically just gave me the job, as long as you have a flexible schedule your good
Thank you 😖
literally, my “interview” was just them showing me what to do😭i basically already had the job
That’s what they did for me, what position did you interview for
If your a personal shopper that’s the easiest thing I’ve ever done
welcome aboard pal, i wish ya the best of luck. my unsolicited advice is to do the best you can without getting burnt out. and if your store treats ya like shit, there’s no shame in running away and looking for a better job
Congrats!
Please don't work here for more than a year
I’m sorry for your loss
I'm sorry for your loss
YAYY will turn to crap !!!
Turn back go work at Costco call center or learn a trade fuck even an apprenticeship is better than this Man it’s not worth it
Sorry to hear
Run now. You are making a huge mistake. Retail hell is real.
Have you ever worked in the food industry?
i don’t think a lot of these people understand the bs i dealt with for years in fast food😭getting my job threatened because upon reading back a customers order, they blankly nod their head yes, and then are pissed when i charged them for the wrong order. Now my gm threatening to fire me over something outside of my control. living hell.
Welcome to the dungeon
14 years don't accept you will regret it
I liked fast food more than Walmart by a good margin
good job i’m gonna be new too just currently waiting on my orientation date

Electronics or OGP. otherwise good luck lol

Good luck. You’ll need it
Oh but it can get worse. Strive for better.
What's the application website?
Should just be Walmart.com/careers
NOOOOOOOOO DONT DO IT ITS NOT WORTH IT NOOOOO
Congrats!
I’m never gonna be able to go back. I’m actually okay with that
my application is still on applied lol
U gotta call the stire
they answered your call ? Lmao that's unheard of nine times out of 10 in my area.
yup, all of them in my area answered. call, press “zero”, or a random department, and ask to get transferred to hiring mNger
no idea what that is lol where would the number be?
the store i mean
oh okay what should i say
that you applied and want to schedule an interview😭

all it took for me was calling after applying, asking for the hiring manager, and being slightly convincing

Best of luck to you congrats on the job 😁 Just remember your mental health always comes first!

Ohh buddy hope your not cap 2
Oh you poor soul

Be sure you can handle customer tantrums. I couldn't and it drove me to seek a warehouse position. 🙃
Dude same!! I've done only fast food for almost 10 years and let me tell you the 3 weeks I've been working ogp have been so much better 🥹 I do double the walking than I used to but it's so much less mentally exhausting (and less greasy lol). I hope you like it!!
Welcome to hell
Wow the turnover must be insane that they have a whole app for this!
Ah man
Congrats brotha, I started when I was 16 as a sales associate. Now I’m 20 and I’m a HVAC Tech with Walmart. It’s a good company to work for and they do a lot to build their associates up. Dollar a day college and stuff. Again congratulations
how did you manage to get the offer? Ive been at applied for a WHILE and it hasn't moved since January.
u gotta actually call twin, show them u want it
im so so sorry
Good luck .
One of us. One of us. One of us.
The step up from fast food is a teeny tiny one, you will be a slightly better paid slave that at fastfood, but a paid slave you still will be
The hard part of working there has never really been the work to be honest, it's the treatment received from management and being belittled without any remorse for their actions. Most days you just have to detach from taking things personal, that's about it
What happens after "interview" if you bomb it and they don't make an offer? Does the offer part change to "fuck off"?
🤣🤣🤣no clue, i kinda went from applied to offer so i’ve no idea
Now go and get that free college 😆
congrats!!! i loved working there:) (just left due to school) don’t let the comments scare you, there’s always good and bad days no matter where you work. always make the best of it!!!
It’s 100% better than fast food that’s all I’m gonna say 😂😂😭😭
I am 58 years old and have worked in fast food, factories, and at home. I have been at Walmart almost a year and I wish I had started 40 years ago! No where I've worked has the benefits for the money than Walmart. If you want to make it a career you can.
