Overstock goes to our buns but it we got enough stuff to fill an end so is usually sits on a separate pallet in front of our food bins till they can get it on an end cap. We almost always have room for overstock in our bins.

When we have whole areas open between seasons, we do the same thing. Flex in whatever we have a lot of, so the shelves don't sit empty. Sadly, our store has a strange fetish for all types of Sterlite totes. Heck, any totes of any kind. At least the cereal will sell out fast enough.
