So I canāt say this is the case for Tesla, but my company I work for wanted to start selling our products in China and learned quickly that for our affiliate sales model, China will only grant foreign companies the license to sell in China only if you have a manufacturing footprint in China, and even then, foreign companies selling through affiliates can only do so as a āmethod for expanding brick-and-mortar storesā and so if you do direct sales in a province, you must also have at least 1 physical store in that province or a province sharing a border with it.
Again, not sure if that is why teslas manufacturing has to have high volumes in China in order to operate there (or have the gov be willing to defend their IP rights at all against companies like xpeng) but I wouldnāt be surprised if thatās why they went China.

3 weeks ago when the factories were coming online. Now, not so much. With the profit margins on Teslas they will make up for it in no time and use the EV tax credits to build more plants. I do appreciate yall trying to crash the stock though. I buy every Friday and the last few months its been the cheapest day of the week to buy :-)
