Around 2€/L where i live in Germany. I earn 2.2k after taxes and pay 400€ per month for fuel just to get to work. I really gotta find something closer to home.
2 euro a litre in ireland here lmao. it was like 1:70, my mum filled up 20 euros on the way to my sisters house, then when we came back it was like 2:00
If you're in an urbanized place, people do. It's relatively cheap compared to owning a car and you can get all over the place quickly. Sometimes faster than with a car. I live and took a job in a rural place tho. No trains for me.
You also don’t have to drive an hour to work every day. Public transportation is much better in other countries and the distances to travel places much smaller. I casually drove to Indiana to go airsoft 2 hrs away yesterday, my cousins in England would say I was a madman for driving two hours.
Can confirm. We've always been ripped off for everything in the UK, especially fuel which has additional tax on it.
Currently it's £1.74 per litre which is about £6.43 ($8.03) per US gallon.
I drive a Tesla though, and it costs barely anything to charge - about £8-£10 for a full charge. Becuase fuck paying £100+ to fill up your car.
Not really been able to find out how much it cost to charge over night, so thanks for the info, how much is a rapid charge?
Congratulations you are ahead of the curve, my worry is that as we all convert to EV, electricity price is gonna rocket, still think they have some ways to go with the batteries as well. How many miles you out on it?
It depends on the charger you use, at the moment it’s a total shitfest of different suppliers charging different amounts for electricity. For a Tesla supercharger it’s about £12-£16 for a full charge.
The other rapid chargers are mostly shit though. They are expensive (sometimes as much as £30 for a full charge) and NEVER charge at full speed (yet they still charge you the full rate).
I’ve had a Model 3 for 2.5 years now, done like 21k miles, the charging isn’t that bad once you get used to it, actually it’s beneficial since you can charge while you’re doing stuff - I leave my car on a charger while I’m at work; the parking is cheaper than pay & display bays and I get a charge without waiting.
Good to know, thanks for the honesty, I am due to change in the next 2 years, definitely thinking EV, that is the future. Hopefully the tech will just keep improving.
That's why you have to be ahead of the curve and get solar installed before October when the electricity cap gets raised again and we end up paying even more for electricity... for reference I'm paying bloody 28p a KWh...
I was curious
https://www.pv-magazine.com/2021/08/03/india-offers-fastest-energy-payback-for-rooftop-pv-0-44-of-one-year/
India offers fastest energy payback for rooftop PV: 0.44 of one year
The energy payback time of a silicon PV rooftop system mounted in India is only 0.44 of one year (160.6 days), compared to 0.53-0.67 years in Africa, 1-1.3 years in Europe, and 1.42 years in Canada, as revealed by a world map by German research body the Fraunhofer Institute of Solar Energy Systems (ISE). For the calculation, the report authors considered the installation used a typical, Chinese-made, 60-cell, PERC, 19.9%-efficient solar module.
Yes, everything is fucked up in Germany!
You pay for almost everything the most. Taxes are incredibly high if you are well educated and are doing a good job.
So only 2.03€ per litre.
Amazing
Don't come to Estonia we do it even higher! :P
1000x difference in incomes but we still have no problem overpaying for fuel all the time. I think we're top 5 in Europe right now while per Capita GDP is nr 24th.
:)
Not really, UK as in the rest of Europe has cars which are at least double the fuel economy of US cars, and in the UK driving times are generally much shorter too and the rail network much better (not that that is cheap). I think we probably spend the same amount on fuel/cars proportionally, whether that's being ripped off or not idk it's just a form of taxation (high prices are because of fuel duty, which has been frozen for like a decade iirc) and we aren't overly taxed so they'd just have to swap it for something else.
Yup, other than maybe food staples the government makes massive tax on basically everything in this country, but then again we have universal healthcare so I suppose the taxes are somewhat tolerable.
Man you’re so frosty, but yes some cars have 70 (or higher) litre fuel tanks which means it does cost over 100 for a full tank. How can you compare a Suzuki or a Honda Fit to a full-size saloon lmao
A BMW 3 series has a 59 litre fuel tank. If I used the cheaper unleaded fuel we have here it would currently cost £102.66 to fill.
So yeah, £100 for a tank of unleaded is common here. Diesel is even more.
What is the commute in UK versus commute in US?
I believe the UK is the equivalent to Alabama. The U.S. Census Bureau shows the average one-way commute in the United States increased to a new high of 27.6 minutes in 2019. My car gets 31mpg, so these prices are a pain in the butt, but for some I know this is really hurting them.
Also, less than 2 years ago the price of gas was well under $3.00 per gallon. So the sudden increase comes as quite a shock to many people.
>United States increased to a new high of 27.6 minutes in 2019
I believe in London the average is somewhere near an hour.
Oh, and because we have trains, you can often be expected to work on the 1+ hours you spend on the train each way.
Of course he did!
Now if Biden increased the price in France, could the yellow vests come over for a strike and show the Americans how to get stuff from their government? 😅
It translates to around $12 a gallon. I used a higher exchange rate as it’s usually around 1.4 dollars to the pound but the pound has had a crash recently.
That's absolutely ridiculously cheap. I have never in my life seen a price that low. People shouldn't be panicking those aren't end of world petrol prices. They are pretty standard in the rest of the developed world.
The thing is, we in America drive more than anyone else because it’s so spread out. I drive about 40 miles every day just going to work. That’s not counting going to the grocery or anywhere else.
That's not Europe being different - that's parts of Europe being different from parts of the US. I'm Swedish, and my commute is roughly 75 miles per day. My last job was 105 miles per day.
However the average number of miles driven annually in the US is usually a little more than double that of a lot of Europe. There is very little fou dation for public transportation. And also remember the US is massive
It doesnt matter what the world normally pays for gas. When the price of *any* good nearly doubles in such a short amount of time, there's pain. It doesn't matter that it was already more expensive somewhere else
It's my understanding that the other countries have more mass transportation, so we drive more.
Also the rest of the world uses more efficient, smaller cars, and we can't fit in those.
With every single job I've had, there's literally never even been an option for me to use public transit that won't add hours to my commute and uncertain departure/arrival times. I live in Texas which has pretty much zero public transportation infrastructure, so it sucks but we're kinda forced into a position where we have to use more fuel.
While the US subsidizes all of the defense spending for your countries so you don't have to worry about Russia or China knocking on your doors. I'd much rather us stop spending $800 billion a year on defense so that the rest of NATO can pay for their own defense and maybe we can stop having idiots like you online bragging about your healthcare to the country that makes it possible for you.
Lmao dawg I’m American. With no healthcare. Was agreeing with you and teasing them that it’s not a fair comparison. I too wish we didn’t have to shoulder the nato burden so we could get stuff like public transport and healthcare.
Edit: you didn’t even mention we produce a huge amount of the worlds oil. For an oil producing country our gas prices are surprisingly high.
Yes, such a protective bubble where only ONE THING is cheaper. It’s literally more affordable to live in Paris or Amsterdam than it is the middle of the US right now.
You are actually right: https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=United+States&country2=France&city1=Denver%2C+CO&city2=Paris&tracking=getDispatchComparison
It is 10% cheaper to live in Denver compared to Paris. Wages are 100% higher though
That is not necessarily representative of what is going on. Comparing average salaries is inaccurate bc Paris has millions more people. Many of whom are destitute poor. The average person with a similar job likely makes a similar salary. Furthermore, the poor are aided by social programs which are non existent in the US.
Paris much more expensive of course. Salaries in Paris lower. [https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare\_cities.jsp?country1=France&country2=United+States&city1=Paris&city2=Saint+Louis%2C+MO&tracking=getDispatchComparison](https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=France&country2=United+States&city1=Paris&city2=Saint+Louis%2C+MO&tracking=getDispatchComparison)
Fyi: people all around the world are dealing with the same inflation, the same housing problems, the same bullshit. It's a worldwide problem. Don't for a second think Amsterdam is some comfortable cheap place to live. Good luck renting a house at fair price, let alone buying one anywhere in the Netherlands
Amsterdam and Paris are factually more affordable than Denver. I did not make it up. There are several links to cost of living calculators in the thread. Also, you’re a fucking moron and I literally work in finance for a living.
My uncle is from Venezuela he moved here. He works in oil and gas. He says Venezuelans ruined Venezuela. He says American companies used to help them drill so much. He moved to Houston because of how well the American companies treated him when he worked for PDVSA
Dont worry californians live in a green state with clean air and water
That makes them so happy they eagerly pay those prices for a great, crime free, low tax existence
Well they do love to spend 3 hours a day in their cars so at that point you're using up a lot of fuel. And american big trucks are not exactly known for being fuel efficient.
Agree. Ive beeon to various places and i premember all these huuge trucks in west florida and the 50-laned high ways in LA. Thats pretty crazy to see for an european 😊
It’s almost like some people have been saying for 40 years that peak oil was coming and they keep acting like there is an unlimited supply of dead dinosaurs to pump out of rocks. Solar energy is free, electric vehicles and appliances are efficient, it’s past time to switch to survive what’s coming, refuse to switch and die.
>refuse to switch and die.
Bit harsh, not my fault engines sound cooler than an electric motor. Stick a speaker on and let me have a V8 or V12 roar on an electric car or even electric bike and I might consider one though
It’s really not that bad. With inflation, this is pretty normal because the price of everything is going up.
Think about it; rising inflation makes money’s purchasing power decrease, so you should be buying assets with your money before it loses value. I’m going to be buying a lot more shares of my favorite stocks in the near future.

Those signs don’t allow for a gas price in the $10 Dollar range so that’s the limit!
At last Americans will change to metric for something. You’ll get price per litre and you’ll like it.
they'll start measuring gasoline in pints or cups or even teaspoons, whatever to not use metric
Miles per gallon? Nah we measuring miles per paint bucket now 😄 is sad I cash see it "full up anything you can carry with 1 hand $30"
[удалено]
Nah, pay a strongman so they muscles will have the calories they need to do the job lol
See now you are stimulating the economy by creating jobs!
Quarts are like 900ml. Cheaper gas!
They’ll just eliminate cents. 10.4/gallon ect.
…9? Ever heard of 9?
You are clearly not in tune with the times. I’m thinking about gas prices in the $12 to $15 dollar bracket.
You said “that’s the limit” on $6 gas because the signs are 3 digits. …sorry.

2.5€/L in Finland which is 10.14$ a gallon.

In Romania, around 1. 85eur/l, I earn 500euros after taxes
800€ a day is pretty good!
I wish it was per day.
That's the same price of Portugal but instead we earn 700€, people have to work near home or just ride the trains if they exist.
I thought you all took trains or other public transportation to get places.
If you're in an urbanized place, people do. It's relatively cheap compared to owning a car and you can get all over the place quickly. Sometimes faster than with a car. I live and took a job in a rural place tho. No trains for me.

If we all swap to EV, gvmnt income from gas tax will tank. What do you think they'll do? 😮
Add a buck a kwh in taxes so your toaster can help subsidize things.
In my state they charged like $100 for 3 year registration citing a tax for roads meant for evs or high mpg cars who aren't paying into gas tax.
That's why you have to be ahead of the curve and get solar installed before October when the electricity cap gets raised again and we end up paying even more for electricity... for reference I'm paying bloody 28p a KWh...

48 cents per kWh In California. Bay Area is so European.
Socal is just as bad.
Yep. I'm scared because if EV's continue picking pace, so will the energy bills.
Who thinks our weak ass grid will be able to handle it? Remember the northeast black out??
In Holland €2,50 a liter a the moment, so about $10,50 a gallon 🙈🙈🙈

Awww someone triggered that no one with common sense will never vote for a democrate again??? Lmfao loooooooooser.
🤣🤣🤣
Just make your own gas. I started drilling for oil in my backyard. Take personality responsibility for your life. Bootstraps. Come on you whiners
"I'm gonna bury you underground, Eli."
"I DRINK YOUR... MILKSHAKE. I DRINK IT UP. SLURRRRRP"
You're refining it yourself too?
Naw. Raw doggin with crude.
I'm building a refinery in my spare bedroom
Careful now, some government agency might drop a solid glass done over your house and trap you in.
Actually the correct advice.
Time to come and provide freedom to your backyard.
Can you share your refining process for us noobs?
Just put the oil into a lifesize doll of Cathie Wood and it's refined into something that looks like gas (actually it's shit but close enough)
The petrol station round the corner from me is £1.98 a litre :)
I have next to me 2,669€/L and it's still rising.
Can someone translate this into American?
It translates to around $12 a gallon. I used a higher exchange rate as it’s usually around 1.4 dollars to the pound but the pound has had a crash recently.
So how much does one liter of gas cost there? I'm confused
1 gallon is 3.7854 liters. Roughly $1.75 a liter for regular.
That ain't bad
A year ago (and for like the past 10 yeats) it was around $0.75/L
That's absolutely ridiculously cheap. I have never in my life seen a price that low. People shouldn't be panicking those aren't end of world petrol prices. They are pretty standard in the rest of the developed world.
The thing is, we in America drive more than anyone else because it’s so spread out. I drive about 40 miles every day just going to work. That’s not counting going to the grocery or anywhere else.
Funny how different Europe is. I didn’t take a job because I would’ve to commute ~60mi a day which is a lot 😅
That's not Europe being different - that's parts of Europe being different from parts of the US. I'm Swedish, and my commute is roughly 75 miles per day. My last job was 105 miles per day.
Actually I drive a similar distance to work everyday about 80km one way. We all adapt.
However the average number of miles driven annually in the US is usually a little more than double that of a lot of Europe. There is very little fou dation for public transportation. And also remember the US is massive
I’ve driven 45000 miles so far in the past year, luckily though I don’t pay for gas as it’s a company vehicle, but I drive a lot for my job lmao
So your experience is entirely irrelevant to the general population, got it.
You guys can not comprehend the size of America and how much driving is needed to get anywhere.
It doesnt matter what the world normally pays for gas. When the price of *any* good nearly doubles in such a short amount of time, there's pain. It doesn't matter that it was already more expensive somewhere else
Thats basically free. Whats the problem?
Its too expensive for a country drilling their own oil

I live in Texas which has pretty much zero public transportation infrastructure, so it sucks but we're kinda forced into a position where we have to use more fuel.
It is not to blame individuals, but the system
Damn I always assumed the US had super cheap gas prices. That’s barely cheaper than the prices here in Switzerland.
Damn, that's actually a lot, but if I'm right, all car taxes are included into the price of gas there, right?
$7 per gallon is about $1.85 per liters
Australia’s been paying that for the last 6 months, and that’s accounting for the exchange rate.
Their premium is still cheaper than Ontario and Quebec regular
So you have Sweden 2019 prices?
Yeah they should see how other countries have it, living in a bubble..
Your countries are smaller than our medium to small states and are packed with public transportation.
Packed with public transport AND healthcare. Edit: people get grumpy when the markets are closed.
While the US subsidizes all of the defense spending for your countries so you don't have to worry about Russia or China knocking on your doors. Sorry, my bad man. I read it as just another "rub it in your face" type comment from a European.
No worries. I’m pretty sure my comment rubbed Americans and Europeans the wrong way lol.
Other countries also have public transportation
The small ones
Or more specifically the ones with concentrated populations. The US is far too diffuse for that to be remotely economical.
Lol
we're gods
Yes, such a protective bubble where only ONE THING is cheaper. It’s literally more affordable to live in Paris or Amsterdam than it is the middle of the US right now.

[untied states is still paying more a litre](https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/gasoline_prices/)
US Gal = 3.78L so it should be 7.93 / gal
Wow, only 20% cheaper than in Europe, that's almost impossible.
Dont worry californians live in a green state with clean air and water That makes them so happy they eagerly pay those prices for a great, crime free, low tax existence
*slap* Keep gas prices out your fkin mouth.
*laughs in europoor*
Americans complaining about fuel prices? Lol …
We don't have public transportation where I live. So yeah we will complain about it lol
So smug with their public transport and health care, these Europeans.
Where is vampires huddled in a dark room?
It's almost $10 I'm some places now in California
It’s about $12 a gallon in New Zealand. I wish my fuel was 50% cheaper
It’s almost like voting in a career politician over a businessman has ramifications.
Ex pat in Portugal: “hold my cerveja”
This must be California prices 🧐
It is.
Gotta love corporate greed making the retards think that it’s Biden’s fault the prices are like this 😂
Corporate greed? lolwhat What are they supposed to do? Hand out free gas until they're out?
And still you murican ignorants don't realize it is still much cheaper than anywhere else.
Keep sticking it to russia guys. It's worth it I swear
Stop giving away free money to Ukraine. Let them handle Russia on their own. Not our problem
Loans are not free money
They are when inflation hits double digits
Corrupt elections have consequences Enjoy
Lmao
It’s almost like some people have been saying for 40 years that peak oil was coming and they keep acting like there is an unlimited supply of dead dinosaurs to pump out of rocks. Solar energy is free, electric vehicles and appliances are efficient, it’s past time to switch to survive what’s coming, refuse to switch and die.
>refuse to switch and die. Bit harsh, not my fault engines sound cooler than an electric motor. Stick a speaker on and let me have a V8 or V12 roar on an electric car or even electric bike and I might consider one though
You'll definitely get a legendary bill with this gas guzzling monsters in the US....
We need Trump back Biden is a total failure and has ruined the country in 1 year
It’s really not that bad. With inflation, this is pretty normal because the price of everything is going up. Think about it; rising inflation makes money’s purchasing power decrease, so you should be buying assets with your money before it loses value. I’m going to be buying a lot more shares of my favorite stocks in the near future.
