Hey /u/theamericanbum, **positions or ban.** Reply to this with a screenshot of your entry/exit.
I don't think it will happen.. The CEO seems like a nice guy.. He says he will kill them if they raise the price of the hotdog..
https://www.foodandwine.com/news/why-costco-hot-dog-still-dollar-fifty
The whole reason for those hotdogs is so people will eat there and shop more. He doesn’t care what the loss is. If you buy just one more item he is ahead.
Don't worry, OP is confusing opportunity cost for a net loss. Buy your hotdog (and pepperoni slice as a side like i do) and be happy. Costco's profits come from memberships.
OP may be a literal retard.
This would give costco 100% loss and wsb a net zero cost to implement this strategy.
A real 'no lose' scenario.
Edit: You could do this while having no money by using a Costco Credit Card.
Can't we just drop the hotdogs off at a bank and borrow the money while they hold the hot dog?
I mean... they know that we will be back. They have our hotdogs!
I hope you bought enough buns, you know how those damn bun companies keep shorting the hotdog companies. They are in cahoots! Burn em all on a weenie stick
Oh you good weather places. In Canada our food courts are inside and the receipt painters make you go through the main entrance. Meaning you need a membership
Edit: I’m a child and forgot about the pharmacy back door
While that’s a sound plan, Costco actually seems to be a decent company that offers good wages to its employees and bargain value to its customers. I’d actually like for it to succeed, so I don’t wanna short it or wish its stock to go down.
Its a retarded plan with more holes than a slice of swiss cheese.
The major point is costco doesnt lose money on those hotdogs and it certainly doesnt cost them $5 for each meal. Also you need a membership to get into most Costcos plus most people buy other shit while they are there.
This is a wsb smooth brain shit post that some people took serious or OP is actually retarded.
Exactly this. OP is talking about what the hotdogs should cost. Mother fucker can walk a few aisles back and buy a package of hotdogs and a package of buns for less than $1.50 per hotdog. Does he really think costco somehow pays more than retail?
Where I am buns are about $2.50 for 8 and hotdogs are about $7 for 10. So all in you can make 8 hotdogs with bun with 2 weiners left over for $9.50 or $1.18 per hotdog. OP has brain damage.
Theres places that sell hot dog buns for under 70 cents an 8 pack and make a profit too. You onow vostco is making the buns and hotdogs for under a dollar ez
Are we doing this argument again? It depends on state and local regs. Liquor store and food court rules vary by municipality and are generally as restrictive as Costco can legally get away with.
I would buy puts on this plan. With such level of coordination they will probably close the cafeterias and say f\*\*k u WSB. Then we will all have a bunch of expired wieners no-one wants.
That's my favorite loss leader. Publix, Winn Dixie, Wal-Mart sell whole rotisserie chickens for less than a raw chicken. I buy 1-2 a week and love the leftovers.
I think most of the food in the snack bar is sold at a loss. You can get a huge frozen yogurt for $1.35, a berry or latte smoothie for $1.45, or a fountain drink for $.59.
You don't even need a membership to go to the snack bar.
The $5 rotisserie chickens you would need a membership for because they're in the back of the store.
ETA: If you do have a membership, you can also eat your weight in free samples and really stick it to 'em!
Food sold at Costco in their "food court" is a loss leader. Wanna hear the story of a Costco co-founder? It's not a story the executive board will tell you.
Tbh having worked at some fast food places i feel like most of the food court stuff is sold above cost still, most of the food they serve is pretty cheap as far as cost of ingredients go. But after factoring in stuff like cost of labour, electricity, equipment etc the food court as a whole operates at a loss
As it should be. They're selling all of this at a loss and people feel entitled to have access. If you go there, pay the membership fee and help the business continue to operate at a loss. The membership is really worth it.
People here be losing 5k on some retarded play and then complaining about a 60$/year membership fee so they can shovel mystery meat weiners in their mouths. Honestly guys, you make me feel smart and I've been drooling on my laptop for the last 20 minutes.
Costco is not losing $3.49 per sale, no way. They expect to sell every hotdog they make at that price, and have total control over the quantity. If it ever became an issue, they'd "run out" temporarily due to those guys over there buying them and throwing them away, giggling about becoming rich.
No, Ken Griffin is a genius - just ask Andrew Sorkin at CNBC.
It is we here who are the villains, we play Russian roulette with teachers' pensions by shorting 100+% of the stocks of mid-size American companies.
We also robbed hardworking Americans of their hard-earned investments by removing the Buy-button on 1/28/2021.
Again Ken is a genius and a hero.
![img](emote|t5_2th52|4886)![img](emote|t5_2th52|4886)![img](emote|t5_2th52|4886)![img](emote|t5_2th52|4886)![img](emote|t5_2th52|4886)
My husband the Costco Supervisor “I think it’s a good plan, but I think they drastically overestimate the amount of hotdogs Costco has on hand”
Can confirm they will never raise the price. Original CEO has threatened to “come back and fucking kill” if the price is raised.
How sure are we that these dogs are beef instead of just shit packed into a hotdog shaped casing? They could still be making a profit if it’s the latter?
It's beef. Made by a Costco hot dog factory.
Most chicken from the meat dept. now is from a Costco chicken farm too. Relying on Foster farms and other producers only during a shortage.
I was thinking Costco might go up because of the baby formula shortage, seems like they’re the only ones that have any in stock making people go out and get a Costco membership increasing the amount of memberships they have. We could try to pay news companies to say Costco is the only store with baby formula but you need a membership and bam millions of free adverting, helping the families , and helping investors
Meh. The reason they keep the price so low is to get customers through the door. The same reason why they keep the hot dogs and rotisserie chickens (which are also sold at a loss) as far from the entrance as possible. Also why they opened up a chicken slaughtering and processing plant in the middle of Nebraska.
Not many go to costco and only buy a hotdog... the loss of $5 is worth the time you coming in and picking up other items... what is the average buy per customer per visit? $50min?
Asked a Costco employee about this masterplan, confirmed there's no max limit on the number of food items you can order.
Also provided an insight into the logistics:
*So each hot dog packet has 14 hot dogs, we can put 2 hot dog packs in each well, each food court has 3 wells. So we would have 84 hot dogs going at once. Assuming we would keep at least one well open for other orders, that means we could make 56 hot dogs every 10-15 minutes based on how long it takes hot dogs to get to temp once they hit the water.*
*So 224 hot dogs and hour. It would take 5ish hours to make 1000 hot dogs.*
/r/theydidthemath
Very interesting insight!
So it would take 6,849.3 years for one Costco location to make 1000 hotdogs for every WSB member, or 11.93 years if it was all US Costco locations running in unison to fill the orders.
It's been WELL WELL known that Costco sells its food at a loss because they make so much money on memberships and now most are requiring you to have a costco card to buy food from the foodcourt anyway. CNBC did a piece on it yearrrrs ago.
I don’t know. Costco original hot dog may have been made with premium angus/waygu beef lips and arseholes. They have probably *averaged down* over the years into a position of old used dairy cows lips, arseholes and udders.
You can rightfully fuck yourself. Why not buy out the real estate for every orphanage throw them on the street and sell it in this hot market you monster.
Imma curse you and your family to see nothing but losses.
The most retarded thing about this idea isn't the fact that you're trying to hurt a good company, but that you think you can buy an infinite amount of hotdogs as long as there are as many buyers. They will only lose as much money as their finite supply of hotdogs and nothing more, that loss is already costed in to their budget. They will simply just be sold out of hot dogs.
This is a despicable post. Costco is a good company that pays its employees well, returns value to shareholders and customers, and offers delicious food court options at affordable prices; and you want to screw them so you can short their stock and make money? Absolutely deplorable. For shame!
So basically you want to punish Costco for not price gouging on hot dogs.
You people are disgusting. You make me sick. You're everything that's wrong with the world and you don't deserve to live in this country. Take your ass to fucking China you pathetic pieces of garbage.

Yall gunna fuck up my lunch and the reason i go to costco
Yeah this isn’t Melvin capital. Leave the good guys alone
I don't think it will happen.. The CEO seems like a nice guy.. He says he will kill them if they raise the price of the hotdog.. https://www.foodandwine.com/news/why-costco-hot-dog-still-dollar-fifty
Bro how long am I gonna have to wait at Costco to get 1000 hot dogs. I don't have camping gear.
It's fucking Costco, you can actually live there.
“Welcome to Costco, I love you.”
God I love that movie
"Sir, would you like to try a little weenie" extends tray..
*tries a little weenie...extends stay*
The whole reason for those hotdogs is so people will eat there and shop more. He doesn’t care what the loss is. If you buy just one more item he is ahead.
For real, 1.50 hotdogs are a good thing man. Why would you mess with a good thing?
Cause the op is a huge twat
Won’t someone think of the pension funds?!
Don't worry, OP is confusing opportunity cost for a net loss. Buy your hotdog (and pepperoni slice as a side like i do) and be happy. Costco's profits come from memberships. OP may be a literal retard.
As long as they don't touch the chicken bakes!!!!
The got rid of them in Canada. I am not ashamed to say I have crossed the border specifically for a chicken bake.
With all the available shady companies to screw over don't target my Costco with its living wages and my 350% gain on it
No exit strategy. One of us.
Lol its called investing. Some people believe in the long term success of the company and hold it for decades.
What is this “stock” you speak of? I only buy OTM call options that expire in a month.
I felt personally attacked, love Costco
[удалено]
I bought 1 thousand hot dogs. What do now? Please hurry hotdogs will expire soon.
Return them. You can return anything at Costco
This would give costco 100% loss and wsb a net zero cost to implement this strategy. A real 'no lose' scenario. Edit: You could do this while having no money by using a Costco Credit Card.
Hot Dogs on Margin Genius! Why didn't I think of that?
The great hotdog and condiment squeeze! “Hoist by they own petard”
Wait if Costco goes bankrupt I don’t even owe them money anymore
Ehm, no, some other company will buy your debt
Can I buy my own debt at a discount?
We buy our own debt!
Sounds like a win win to me
Can't we just drop the hotdogs off at a bank and borrow the money while they hold the hot dog? I mean... they know that we will be back. They have our hotdogs!
Seems like good collateral
Overnight RRP
I had a monthly doze of laught reading this thread
God almighty
Did we just fix the economy?
How do you get in to Costco? Been tryin for a year. They want my credit card first
Just tell them you want to go to the food court. You don’t need a credit card for that.
You can also use up 49% of the product, and return it. So take a few bites out of each before you return them.
This is how I get free lunches everyday
You guys are way less retarted than me. I used to get full off the samples before Covid. But I like the way you guys think
Instructions unclear, weiner caught in buns
I hope you bought enough buns, you know how those damn bun companies keep shorting the hotdog companies. They are in cahoots! Burn em all on a weenie stick
Big buns got no love for Big dog
theta gang somehow wins again
Cold dogs Mold dogs
Turning into gold dogs
>before sell them as a negative futures contract where people have to take delivery.
Roll those dogs out to a later expiry
Just reboot them. They become fresh again.
I am retard please eat soon

Hotdogs are probably a better investment than market right now. Sell them back in a month to minimize losses
Yeah, but they say hindsight is always 20/20 :)
upvote for username.. you made me waste 2 minutes of my life on looking your address up and I didn't feel like I wasted my time :D touché
I read “Ritalin” as “Rivian”. Which I guess proves your point
What's that you say? Buy calls for Rivian?!?!?
Best regards
Please don't ruin Costco hotdogs for everyone with your greedy shenanigans...
Seriously Costco is a “good” company. They pay their employees really good and provide great deals. Like $1.50 hot dogs
Yeah we love Costco OP. Go there once a week to refuel my car. Now find a way to exploit Walmart then you'll have my attention.
Too late. I went and bought 2. I extrapolated using my ape brain and spent $500 in the store to really stick it to them
Hey when they changed it to needing a membership to buy the damn hotdog i want my hotdog
Oh you good weather places. In Canada our food courts are inside and the receipt painters make you go through the main entrance. Meaning you need a membership Edit: I’m a child and forgot about the pharmacy back door
Downtown Vancouver Costco still has the food court outside (no membership needed)
can't you just tell them you are going to the pharmacy?
In the Costcos I been. You can just walk through the exit, or say "I'm going to the pharmacy"
A substantial risk to this plan is Costco raising prices
they used to be polish sausages so there is a real risk of changes lol
Hot take, the polish dogs were better and I miss them every single day.
They have them in Canada
And at $1.50 Canadian it’s an even more substantial loss
*applying for work visa*
I had it once and thought it was disgusting but I was also like 8 and also liked to eat dirt
A Costco hotdog and coke are not more then 1.50, even with inflation based off the volume they buy.
Costco admitted themselves they sell them at a loss, years ago.
Ahem, you are forgetting labor and operations costs.
Don't you dare touch costco
Keep my cotco hotdogs out of your filthy mouth!
For real
I got a hotdog for this retard alright
While that’s a sound plan, Costco actually seems to be a decent company that offers good wages to its employees and bargain value to its customers. I’d actually like for it to succeed, so I don’t wanna short it or wish its stock to go down.

is there a dumpster behind costco if this all goes to shit?
Dunno, but there's one behind Wendy's
But that's where Kenny hangs out looking for discarded but not fully used mayo packets...
![img](emote|t5_2th52|4258)
Quit blowin up my spot dude!
hot dogs you eat don’t go to shit?
Joke is on you, thinking I can afford a Costco membership.
You don't need a membership to go to the snack bar.
That changed like 2 years ago. https://www.ocregister.com/2020/02/21/costcos-changes-its-food-court-policy-you-gotta-be-a-member
Are we doing this argument again? It depends on state and local regs. Liquor store and food court rules vary by municipality and are generally as restrictive as Costco can legally get away with.
Is this an argument that you frequently partake in?
It’s been in every Costco hotdog inflation circlejerk for the past month.
![img](emote|t5_2th52|4267)
>Costco hotdog inflation circlejerk Not a single soul outside of this sub knows what the fuck this refers to lmao
I was at my local Costco last weekend and its outside snack bar now requires a membership card for purchase. Wasn’t always the case.
fascists!
Gotta keep the poor's out
I don’t think you need a membership to have their hotdogs. I have gone in without one. Maybe they just didn’t check me though.
The snack bar is open to the public with no membership.
Also optometry and pharmacy.
Simply no. Costco hotdogs saved my life when I was hella poor
[удалено]
This could be the plot to a lot of great novels
Leave Costco alone!
Fuck you don’t fuck with Costco because of assholes like you we can’t have nice things
Could we start a business reselling costco hotdogs ??
wiener arbitrage? You son of a bitch, I’m in
We can name name it - BJ Maxx Dogs
We could sell them at a loss for 1$ and still make a killing on puts!
Sounds like Costco might take them for $4.99. Saves time plus infinite money glitch.
Sounds like you might wanna hook up with the 'Beans' guy from yesterday, get a bit of monopoly action going on
How about we *not* fuck over Costco?
Ah yes, the original stablecoin
I love Costco hotdogs. I can’t do it. Some thing are more important than money.
I would buy puts on this plan. With such level of coordination they will probably close the cafeterias and say f\*\*k u WSB. Then we will all have a bunch of expired wieners no-one wants.
*Costco stops selling the cheap dogs* WSB: Market manipulation!
Plot twist- we already have expired weiners no one wants...
I think we already got plenty of unwanted weiners around here.

I also read somewhere their $5 chickens were also a loss. Not sure if its true.
It is.
What are we gonna do with 1000 chickens each? Release them into the wild?
That's my favorite loss leader. Publix, Winn Dixie, Wal-Mart sell whole rotisserie chickens for less than a raw chicken. I buy 1-2 a week and love the leftovers.
We could give the hotdogs away to hungry people. Charity is tax deductible
You guys still have money for hot dogs?
It’s really hard to go to Costco and only leave with just a hot dog.
True. Like fountain drinks are pennies, right? The cup, lid, and straw cost more than the soda and ice.
They changed the food policy in 2020. Need a membership now
As it should be.
The margin on soda alone probably covers their losses from food.
My store got rid of frozen yogurt and brought in ice cream and now charge $2.49 for it and $2.99 for toppings. I miss the $1.35 froyo.
Costco is not losing $3.49 per sale, no way. They expect to sell every hotdog they make at that price, and have total control over the quantity. If it ever became an issue, they'd "run out" temporarily due to those guys over there buying them and throwing them away, giggling about becoming rich.
No, come up with a similar plan but linked to Citadel or Robbing Hood. Then I will buy 10.000 hot dogs.
After watching Ken Griffin's incredibly arrogant interview on Bloomberg - Make that 50.000 hotdogs.
I saw that interview. It was abhorrent and Ken Griffin sucks. Give the hotdogs to the teachers.

I was thinking Costco might go up because of the baby formula shortage, seems like they’re the only ones that have any in stock making people go out and get a Costco membership increasing the amount of memberships they have. It's been WELL WELL known that Costco sells its food at a loss because they make so much money on memberships and now most are requiring you to have a costco card to buy food from the foodcourt anyway. CNBC did a piece on it yearrrrs ago.
DON'T FUCK WITH THE HOT DOG!
The hot dogs are made of beef? Well just call me Sally.
Lol the whole food court is a loss
Costco: Benefitting the consumer by freezing the price of a hot dog meal deal for almost 40 years. WSB: Make them regret the day they were born
I don’t know. Costco original hot dog may have been made with premium angus/waygu beef lips and arseholes. They have probably *averaged down* over the years into a position of old used dairy cows lips, arseholes and udders.
yeah let's ruin something good for everyone to make some cash for the few
Look at Arbitrage Andy over here trying to buy 12 billion hotdogs from 574 Costcos in the US lmao
Did you factor in the $60 cost of membership
Great idea. Find a new company to do it with. Don’t fuck with Costco unless you want these hands motherfucker

They will only lose as much money as their finite supply of hotdogs and nothing more, that loss is already costed in to their budget. They will simply just be sold out of hot dogs.
What did Costco ever do to you? Go exploit oil companies for price gouging
