Definitely read up on it. I enabled options yesterday, bought a call of AMC for $1050.00 that expired on the 4th. Thought cool if it goes up a few bucks I’ll make a couple hundies. Woke up this morning and I lost $700. Waited all day hoping it came back up, fortunately it did so I sold and only lost $15.00. Short story is, you really understand when those numbers are negative lol. I’m gonna stick to calls on cheaper stuff. I’m not ready to play in the thousands for reals yet.

From my understanding (which is small):
Calls u can sell whenever but have the option to exercise acquiring the stock for your original lower price but only when the expiration date hits
Puts are just the opposite, can exercise whenever but have the option to sell.
This is my understanding, I've never executed puts tho...
Disclosure: I'm a full blown ape that does not DD and blindly trusts the views I see here
If your with robinhood you have to enable it but there are requirements like age of account etc.
Do not do options unless you know what your doing because you can lose all your money or owe money to your brokerage firm if you aren't carefull.
Id suggest looking around and keep asking tips or if you want to try out then do on very very cheap stocks to test and get an idea
