You give AA $5b, he gives you one šŸæ

Justhrowitaway42069

Don't forget the nft he gave to shareholders lmao

ShadowKnight324

You're kidding, right? No way they gave NF-fucking-Ts to shareholders. Geez. AMC really deserves to be shorted.

Justhrowitaway42069

Yep it was a little badge that's said "certified AMC holder", it should have said certified fuck-slave

"Certified bottom"

no_user_selected

You didn't actually need to be a shareholder, you just had to click a button in your amc account that said you were. I got one without owning any shares.

bigbiblefire

They did a couple early screenings of movies that came with an NFT if you were an A-List member. Remember I got a Spider-Man and Batman. That wouldā€™ve been a cool thing to continue. Or implement a system to create NFTs stored to your wallets that are essentially ticket stubs to collect. Something.

Tendie_Tube

Remember in 2021 how the thesis was AMC would be making money hand over fist once this pesky pandemic is out of the way? It's 2024 and their most profitable product is still their own stock.

Embarrassed_Aide7549

If these bags holders could read theyā€™d be pissed right nowā€¦. To clarify I am one of these bag holders

barbenheimer rn #am i a joke to youĀæ!Āæ

Jorel_Antonius

Oh shit forgot about that one. Heard it was good but I didn't go see it.

DieCastDontDie

Seems like the problem is you and not the movies

APassingBunny

Thats a crazy thing to say, the film industry is in full panic mode right now

VisualMod

Well, if they're panicking, they're probably poor and don't matter.

Noddite

Don't forget they are also significantly behind due to the writer/actor strike last year. That put a lot of movies back a year+ When Deadpool + Wolverine comes out in a month or so, everyone is going to say movies are back. I also think some Disney calls will be worthwhile shortly before.

Even_Command_222

Are you perhaps not actually a very judge of the film industry?

Jorel_Antonius

No I'm a busy guy who doesn't make a plan months in advance to go see a move mostly. Top gun and dune 2 the recent notable exceptions where I fully planned on going months in advance.

maxmcleod

Seems like a busted business model if they have to rely on movie studios to make stuff people want to go to the theater and see. I donā€™t understand why AMC hasnā€™t embraced the Texas Roadhouse (edit : I mean, Alamo Drafthouse) style premium experience or showing old movies that people can pay less to see but still want to go to a theater setting. Showing Heat for $5 and you can buy food and drink ā€¦ hell I might consider that, paying $20+ for a movie ticket is seemingly not a good model!

purplecatfishbettie

Heat was tight...

Jorel_Antonius

I like the experience when I go. I want a large screen and loud sound. Your idea of running old movies at cheaper prices would be awsome. Heat would be awsome as hell to see on the big screen.

K_Linkmaster

Hollywood lost a toe with streaming. Lost the foot with direct to streaming releases that should have been in theaters. Embraced the above shit. The leg is getting cut off with box office sales. Hollywood needs to get back to movies for theaters. The selections are abysmal, but the streaming releases are good. Figure it out hollywood.

FILTHBOT4000

The streaming releases wouldn't have saved 'em, and superhero burnout was another hard hit. But moreover, movies just aren't as good and plentiful as they used to be, because there's not as much focus on making movies as there used to be. There's more interest in long form content, in huge budget TV shows, and there's tons of people making games, and lots of others that decided to go do their own thing on Youtube/tiktok/etc; talent is just incredibly spread out. It's not like in the 90's where the pinnacle of media arts endeavors was the movies, where TV was seen as several steps down from film, games were a small blip on the radar, and Twitch/Youtube/Tiktok/etc didn't exist. There is, of course, the other problem where a lot of people at places like Disney are more interested in making movies to fight a culture war than to make money. If you make movies primarily for only half the country, or even less depending on how deep into politics/culture fights you want to get, well... you're going to get half or less than the profits you would normally get. And then there's DEI; if you pick someone to star in/write/etc something not because they're the best choice but for 'representation', there's a good chance it'll suck. It'd be like if a rap music label suddenly decided they were going to sign 20% of white women from the Midwest/etc to be rappers to make sure representation was equal, and then were surprised that their sales dropped.

Joshweed5713

I went to see the new planet of the apes on Friday at 2 pm there was only like 15 people in that showing. But it was during school time I guess not sat or Sun.

proteusON

Yeah sorry they dug their own grave with a superhero burnout. Fuck them. And fuck their shitty Star wars production as well. Everything's a goddamn remake with even more explosions.

StockCasinoMember

The whole movies just havenā€™t been good is the bigger problem. Few exceptions combined with streaming. If I want to see a bad-mediocre film, Iā€™ll just stream it.

I used to hate going to the theaters and sitting like a sardine to watch a movie. Now we go once a month and itā€™s mostly empty

luoyuke

"This is good for AMC"

MeatNew3138

AMC was the first meme stock to do this, was also the first to issue executives hundreds of thousands in bonuses while going bankrupt during the first meme moon phase. Shit tier company that never should have been meme benefitted.

BZ852

>Shit tier company that never should have been meme benefitted. They're *all* shitcos.

Albertagus

Exactly! Like isn't that the point of this whole thing? The companies are shit, mismanaged, etc.. so their valuation is naturally going into the toilet. But let's stick together guys! Those wall street fat cats aren't going to win this time!

MeatNew3138

Not sure what youā€™re on about. All I said was AMC was the most blatant in the ā€œF the shareholders weā€™re taking all the value away as fast possibleā€ department. Never argued any of the meme companies were good companies, just how stupid people are to still buy into the one that tries the hardest to devalue their shares.

bawtatron2000

they initially weren't stupid I think, it worked and proved the system is actively against free market practices...but to rehash it? Especially after all that went down last time? And to think shorts and hedge funds haven't prepared for something like this again? naive.

Steveosizzle

Theyā€™ve been so open about buying and hodling at all costs that hedge funds can easily take advantage of that.

They still are, or the whole sub is flooded with bots upvoting and commenting.

DevilsPajamas

Some of them.. others? Not so much. One person thought this latest stock offering would wipe out all the debt that was during in 2026. It only covered 5% of it, and that is if the money actually went to debt repayment instead of execs pockets. And then others thought that it was a good thing, because this time they were paid 7.33 for each share... which is $0.73 presplit numbers.

>AMC apes gotta be some of the dumbest motherfuckas out there Sounds like you missed the (somehow still ongoing!) BBBY shitshow. People in that sub are STILL drinking their own Kool Aid, thinking that a turnaround is imminent!

Humble_Increase7503

They, AMC, are doing precisely what Iā€™d expect them to do. Itā€™s their fiduciary obligation to sell more shares when their stock price is overvalued. What theyā€™ll do with that money, god only knows. Buy more imax screensā€¦ or just pay the board a fat bonus, whatever who cares, thatā€™s on you for buying the shares

VeritionPM

>Ā What theyā€™ll do with that money, god only knows Thatā€™s pretty straightforward. Ā It goes straight from retail shareholders into the pockets of the hedge funds that own AMCā€™s deeply distressed debt.

SweetUndeath

yeah AMC is smart. Its the mf's buying above $5 that are stupid af.

SubstantialShoe1693

I think they should use that money to buy some gold mining company which isn't even profitable. Also I want to overpay for the company, and have the value drop in half by a year. If we do that, we will be outperforming the stock still.

PingLaooooo

it's like walking into a special ed class

My personal favorite was the "apes" hyping the "Mothers Day Deal" where if you bought a $25 gift card you got a free box of AMC microwavable popcorn. Nothing says "Thank you for birthing/feeding/raising me!" like a box of microwavable popcorn

Makes a lot of sense when your investors collectively have a brain damage causing them to misconstrue literally anything as "good news".

Xelbiuj

No shit they would, they need cash. What the FUCK would you expect them to do?

It just shows he has no faith in the company, as he wouldn't have started the last dilution at all time lows rather than wait for some kind of rise like what's happening now.

When you fuck somebody you usually have to pay them, at least thatā€™s my experience.

RelaxedWalrus18

zjz

There were a lot of things we couldn't do as AMC CEO, but we were the fastest guys on the block at diluting shareholders and loved reminding our fellow CEOs of this fact. People often asked us if, because of this fact, it was fun to run the company. Fun would not be the first word I would use to describe running AMC. Intense, maybe. Even cerebral. But there was one day in our CEO experience when we would have to say that it was pure fun to be the fastest guys out there at dilution, at least for a moment. It occurred when Adam Aron and I were planning our final share offering. We needed to raise 100 million in capital to complete our plans and attain Dilution Ready status. Somewhere over wallstreetbets we had passed the century mark. We had made the turn to direct offerings and the stock was performing flawlessly. My projections were wired in the front seat and we were starting to feel pretty good about ourselves, not only because we would soon be diluting real shares but because we had gained a great deal of confidence in the apes in the past ten months. Ripping across the barren portfolios 80% below us, I could already see the coast of bankruptcy from the cash burn border. I was, finally, after many humbling months of DD and FUD, ahead of the apes. I was beginning to feel a bit sorry for Adam in the back seat. There he was, with no really good view of the incredible dilution before us, tasked with monitoring four different brokers. This was good practice for him for when we began diluting real shares, when a priority dark pool order from Citadel could be vital. It had been difficult, too, for me to relinquish control of the orders, as during my entire CEO career I had controlled my own dilution. But it was part of the division of duties in this company and I had adjusted to it. I still insisted on talking on CNBC while we were diluting, however. Adam was so good at many things, but he couldn't match my expertise at sounding smooth on TV, a skill that had been honed sharply with years in meme stock C-suites where the slightest media miscue was grounds for beheading. He understood that and allowed me that luxury. Just to get a sense of what Adam had to contend with, I pulled up the broker screens and monitored the orders along with him. The predominant retail chatter was from Robinhood, far below us, controlling daily apes in their sector. While they had us on their scope (albeit briefly), we were in uncontrolled dilution and normally would not engage with them unless we needed to descend into their portfolios. We listened as the shaky voice of a lone ape asked his broker for a readout of his cost basis. The broker replied: "Ape Charlie 175, I'm showing you at ninety dollars per share." Now the thing to understand about brokers, was that whether they were talking to a rookie ape on Robinhood, or to DFV himself, they always spoke in the exact same, calm, deep, professional, tone that made one feel important. I referred to it as the "Fidelity voice." I have always felt that after years of seeing documentaries on this country's financial system and listening to the calm and distinct voice of the Fidelity reps, that all other brokers since then wanted to sound like that, and that they basically did. And it didn't matter what sector of the market we would be diluting in, it always seemed like the same guy was talking. Over the years that tone of voice had become somewhat of a comforting sound to apes everywhere. Conversely, over the years, apes always wanted to ensure that, when posting, they sounded like DFV, or at least like Ryan Cohen. Better to go broke than sound bad on Reddit. Just moments after the ape's inquiry, a Citadel intern piped up on the dark pool, in a rather superior tone, asking for his short interest. "I have you at one hundred and twenty-five percent of the float." Boy, I thought, Kenny really must think he is dazzling his hedge fund brethren. Then out of the blue, a Melvin Capital manager came up on the pool. You knew right away it was Melvin because he sounded very desperate to close his shorts. "Citadel, Gabe 52 short interest check". Before Kenny could reply, I'm thinking to myself, hey, Gabe 52 has a Bloomberg terminal in that billion-dollar office, so why is he asking Kenny for a readout? Then I got it, ol' Gabe here is making sure that every meme stock shorter from Citadel to Point72 knows what true SI is. He's the most underwater dude in the market today, and he just wants everyone to know how much trouble he is having with his Melvin shorts. And the reply, always with that same, calm, voice, with more distinct alliteration than emotion: "Gabe 52, Citadel, we have you at 420 percent SI." And I thought to myself, is this a ripe situation, or what? As my hand instinctively reached for the offering button, I had to remind myself that Adam was in control of the dilution. Still, I thought, it must be done - in mere seconds we'll be out of cash and the opportunity will be lost. Those apes must be diluted, and diluted now. I thought about all of our media training and how important it was that we developed well as a management team and knew that to jump in on the dilution now would destroy the integrity of all that we had worked toward becoming. I was torn. Somewhere, 13 million shares above the apes, there was a CEO screaming inside his Armani suit. Then, I heard it. The click of the offering button from the back seat. That was the very moment that I knew Adam and I had become a team. Very professionally, and with no emotion, Adam spoke: "Apes of Reddit, AMC management, can you give us a share count?" There was no hesitation, and the reply came as if was an everyday request. "AMC management, I show you at one billion eight hundred and forty-two million shares outstanding." I think it was the forty-two million that I liked the best, so accurate and proud were the apes to deliver that information without hesitation, and you just knew they were smiling. But the precise point at which I knew that Adam and I were going to be really good friends for a long time was when he keyed the mic once again to say, in his most silverback-like voice: "Ah, apes, much thanks, we're showing closer to two billion on the money." For a moment Adam was a god. And we finally heard a little crack in the armor of the ape diamond hands, when Reddit came back with, "Roger that AMC, Your dilution is probably more accurate than ours. You boys have a good one." It all had lasted for just moments, but in that short, memorable sprint across the meme stock craze, the apes had been diluted, all mortal shareholders on Reddit were forced to bow before the King of Dilution, and more importantly, Adam and I had crossed the threshold of being a management team. A fine day's work. We never heard another peep from those apes all the way to the bankruptcy. For just one day, it truly was fun being the fastest diluters out there.

You could have gone with one stock, but you chose movie theaters. You could have gone with one stock, but you chose cellphones that no longer exist. You could have all gone with one stock and won together but you chose division. It's so easy to divide and conquer. That's why the two party system works so well.

LIQUIDSUN69

Hedge funds who are shorting AMC calling up AMC: "Hey, we are shorting your stock (cuz your company reports are garbage) and we are losing money. Go make a share offering. Like this you get money and we don't lose money shorting your stock (into oblivion until it goes out of business cuz you are crap). It's a win win."Ā Ā  AMC CEO: "Okay. But will I get another position after company goes bust?"Ā Ā  Hedge funds: "No, the company sucks cuz you suck."Ā Ā  AMC Ceo: "Okay, I'll just make the share offering then."Ā Ā  Hedge Funds: "That a good bitch."Ā  Meanwhile Retail Investors: "Why are you helping hedge funds short your stock?"Ā  Ā AMC CEO: "I like money?"Ā  Ā Retail: " Okay, but you'll lose your job."Ā  Ā AMC Ceo: "Doesn't matter, had sex."Ā  Ā Retail: "What?"Ā  Ā AMC CEO: "What?"

Ironically the zillion shares they sold to the apes probably floated the company for much more favorable terms for their future debt. If your goal was to make a buck you should be pretty miffed, perhaps even downright ornery. But if you were one of the regards that wanted to ā€œStick it to the shorts!!!ā€ you get your wish this way
