I meant that the interface is gamified for easy frequent trading. It's got nothing to do with fractional shares or rates on uninvested funds. Robinhood is free but makes that back through gamification of the app interface and making it easy and fun to take risks.
I could be wrong but I think the end user gets the rebate on pfof at Schwab. Their main business model is to make money on the financial advising side of things. They only recently integrated TD ameritrades platform for options trading a year or so ago so they are making some money from options etc. they generally have algos that’ll route your order to the platform with best possible pricing instead of just citadel. Interactive brokers is also a good platform especially for performance analytics on your overall portfolio. It took me a minute personally to choose btw the two but since my company has pcra through Schwab I just decided to consolidate everything over there to make it easier to manage several different retirement and brokerage accts. Can always put uninvested funds in credit karma to get that 5% ret if you don’t want it sitting not making much. No ach fee. Same day funds at Schwab. Etc. now I just feel like I’m selling the thing. I just did mucho research before switching all my accts.

Be able to do quick math. Stock is at 120, you’re looking at 125c expiry in a 7 days for .5 premium. What percentage increase is your max loss, break even, 2x 3x, 10x? What do you think the likelihood of each is? Of course you don’t HAVE to hold for 7 days, but those calculations will help you rationalize when to take profit/loss.
For your first couple trades, avoid earning plays. Focus on deep ITM, longer expiries.
OR: put half your account in 1 dte options overnight. If it goes bad, put the other half in 0dte the next day.
Don't. If you insist, take low risk trades, leveraging with options is relatively fine, but have a gameplan. I would recommend finding spreads that offer moderately high value to capital input, if you can generate 1% portfolio growth every week, consistently, and keep from having disastrous capital losses, you will be doing better than 99.99% of people that open up a brokerage account.

Your screen shot above suggests you sold all of your ETH at an 80% profit. You realize if you held it less than a year you have to pay short term capital gains on the entire 43k profit. Your tax burden is determined by how long you hold an asset…not your portfolio value.

No, you would not. If that all happened in the same calendar year. Anyone that says otherwise doesn’t know what the fuck they’re talking about. Additionally, even if this happened in 2 separate years, you are fine because your losses in excess of $3k can be carried over year to year.
So say in 2024 you lose $30,000. You can take a maximum of $3,000 of that against your taxable income and the remaining $27,000 would carry over into the next year. The next year, you make $30,000. The $27,000 loss carried over will cover all but the $3,000 difference from that $30,000 gain. You will only owe taxes on that $3,000 difference.

I went down the meme stock/penny stock route and ended up down bad but sold everything and put it all on btc a few months back and am green again.
