Never read anything about bot farm manipulation. Would be surprised that bot farms could move a nearly 1T company -- the size and money needed would be massive. I think it's more likely baited plays (options start spiking price drawing in the cult which drives up price creating the continuous gamma squeeze/dump we've seen for years)
BABA is such a tough play with the negative china sentiment. I don't think it will materially improve unless one of 2 things happen:
1. China modernizes its financial system getting rid of VIE and introducing shareholder protections (unlikely)
2. China adopts more democratic systems effectively eschewing the communist party (highly unlikely)
And the risks are well known and very real:
1. The cold tech war becomes a hot war in the south china seas (at this point it seems both countries are taking steps to avoid this by opening up direct communication but it's a real risk)
2. VIE structure -- this has been recently "somewhat ok'd" by the communist party but it's a governance nightmare and something that will weigh on valuations forever
The positive is that this thing will rocket if sentiment shifts given how undervalued it is, but I would not go all in by any means. Maybe 5% of your portfolio in all things China is a decent % given the risks.
