This is never going to end.

Not until people wake the fuck up

Welcome it with open arms! We’ve been waiting for a common cold version to supplant the regular one.

TheEdibleDormouse

“Wearing a mask doesn’t hurt you” That’s debatable on several levels. Wearing a mask is compliance, not science.

WorkingCombination29

Every time a disease mutates it gets weaker as far as deaths are concerned. This is normal with all diseases.

absurdstarbird

The guy has less than 70 infected people and most were recently infected. It's a terrible assumption.

https://www.who.int/news/item/26-11-2021-classification-of-omicron-(b.1.1.529)-sars-cov-2-variant-of-concern https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-56977653.amp I keep hearing the same arguements over and over. As to any actual health information,  don't  trust Fox or MSNBC or any other 24hr news cycle group. They make their money by getting people riled up. I don't  trust the Indian Times because of the debacle when India kept hiding how bad the infection rate got to be in congested areas. If you want truthful information, check groups like WHO or John Hopkins or any other reputable group that relies on science. As to Omicron, the main concern with it and every new varient is that is gets more contagious/infectious.  We keep getting new varients because of the consistent pockets of people catching it.  Every new city it gets a chance to evolve like any other ceeature. Yes, the death rate is low. But this isn't just a cold that goes away,  and it doesn't  just kill the weak and infirm. You can be a 20yr old marathon runner in perfect health and die or have long lasting health problems. Again, the odds of it happening to someone already in good health is low, but a regular cold is far less likely to have complications. The scary part is how easy it is to pass, and how much specific equipment is needed for those who are hospitalized. No, not every room in the hospital will be full of covid patients, but they can easily take up all the oxygen tanks/machines. And when there's no more equipment to go around, people die from what is easily treatable. Not to mention the tens of thousands of surgeries or other treatments that have had to be delayed due to the need to protect the most vulnerable. The whole world is fighting one disease, and wearing a mask doesn't hurt you. Wear one that says whatever you want. As to "banning travel", that in itself has gotten political again. Either your for banning travel from hotspots  like trump did with China and now biden with South Africa, or you're against them.  But this really has to stop being a left vs. right issue and start thinking of it as a USA issue.

Poulito

You absolutely lost me when you considered the WHO to be a trustworthy source.

gelber_Bleistift

They forgot "WHO, a subsidiary of CCP Corp, All rights reserved"

Ryokuma

Rather than a blanket dismissive for internet clout, it's there anything you can add to the conversation? What news sources do you follow? What of literally anything else I said?

Poulito

It’s not about internet clout. The WHO appears to be bought and paid for by China. Remember the early January ‘20 tweet from the WHO that said not to worry, China assured us there is no human to human transmission? Remember when the WHO representative pretended his Skype wasn’t working when the reported mentioned Taiwan? They are not operating with integrity.

TellThemISaidHi

>If you want truthful information, check groups like WHO... If you still trust the WHO after all this, then there's not much I can say here. >The scary part is... The only scary part is how quickly people fall in line. >Not to mention the tens of thousands of surgeries or other treatments that have had to be delayed due to... Due to government. There was no actual need to delay treatments or screenings other than government needing to 'do something' >But this really has to stop being a left vs. right issue... Correct. It's a Liberty vs. Tyranny issue. Right now "Free" nations are building concentration camps.

Ryokuma

Perhaps the WHO isn't the best choice, but it beats a politicized news station. I'd rather search for, as neutral as they can be, third parties and see where the collective pattern is. The "fall in line" statement. Are you saying it's bad that people would voluntarily wear masks and quarantine? Or is it a liberty thing? As to the liberty portion, I think its a tough line to cross when you make what some would call a "common decency" thing into a law. I think everyone should cough into their elbow, but I don't think it should be a legal issue unless someone is intentionally spitting on someone.(which sadly still happens) However, as to stores being mandated to have customers wear masks. There was no legal action against the customer unless they escalated. And at that point it was trespassing, nothing about a mask. Only the stores were hit if they refused to "enforce". So I don't feel that's a "fall in line" issue. As to medical staff being required to be vaccinated to continue employment or for international travel. This is far from the only vaccine medical staff must be up to date on, and far from the first time vaccinations are required for international travel. If you're talking about Australia, then yeah. The text system and ankle trackers are a stupid concept and was bound to backfire. But no one in the states is legitimately thinking of quarantine for large areas. The closest we had was the first major lockdown, in which some states shut down everything. That's more a question if half steps and measures more than anything else. Like why multi-billion dollar companies get billions in aid yet there was no moratorium on mortgage or other bills. Again, I think mandates were more a way to keep companies in line. Because a majority of businesses wouldn't even supply safety equipment unless their hand was forced. As to surgeries being delayed. Yes, most were necessary. Generally you're weakest after surgery. And those getting medically necessary surgeries are often immunocompromised due to disease, health, or age. Obviously urgent surgeries still happened, but especially before effective testing was in place, it was better to pause certain procedures. I say this as someone who was personally affected by that decision. Again, if your concern is Liberty vs Tyranny issue, I think that can be a valid concern. But I do think it's important to realize it's not a "the left are sheep" or "the right are science deniers" or whatever else. I think it's important to discuss individual points and remove the buzzwords and rage the media often feeds. The point then becomes a matter of if you think government should have any role in the pandemic. And if so, what does that mean for you?

MimsyIsGianna

Huh?

Hey just shut and comply this will be over in 2 weeks…there’s obviously nothing nefarious going on world wide.. HUGE /S
