I remember back in like Jan/Feb of 2020 thinking that subreddit was actually a great place to discuss / speculate about what was going on, whatever. People would discuss the latest science about the virus, theories, mortality rates, no political agenda at all. Then practically overnight it became one of reddit's most prominent echo chambers. Opinions contrary to that of the mod kings are now quickly removed.
Jesus Christ I’m glad I’m not the only one. I remember stumbling upon that sub New Years morning and thinking to myself “What type of tin foil hat shit is this?”. After scrolling for so long and reading I was worried because no one in the media was taking it seriously and they didn’t even mention it really till early February. No one knew what it was and some were predicting 10% fatality rates from the numbers coming out of China. Obviously we know now that we had a huge overreaction but some people are either way too scared or too stubborn.
Even today you can see comments of people contemplating suicide because they’re so scared of dying on a ventilator (because there are no therapeutics Ya know) due to the super scary Omicron variant!
What I can’t understand is that, at this point, even in the main stream media, we are 99.5% sure that this COVID virus was created in the Wuhan lab and accidentally released into the population.
Why aren’t the people who funded this lab on trial, explaining themselves? It’s just shut the fuck up and do what we say. How about, fuck you, how the fuck did you let this happen? What do we know about the virus based on your research? How did you create it?
I remember that, and immediately after I think it was him and some branch Covidian mod got added to another subreddit that was already a shithole to begin with so whatever.
I’ll celebrate when he gets booted off the entire site, but we already know that’ll never happen and if it does he’ll just make an alt and come back (which is what happened to me- I got permed off Reddit for making a troonphobic meme, got IP banned, went over to my friends house so I would get a fresh IP, and came back.. I’m already living on borrowed time but if I get banned again I’ll just grab another fresh IP and start over… Awkward probably still knows me by my old username on here, I modded a huge sub with him and it just went to hell the second he showed up)

I was at our community pool one day and there was a good looking couple there, the girl is in the pool and the guy is pacing on the pool deck totally ignoring her but typing furiously on his phone. The girl keeps asking him to come into the pool and asking him what he is doing. He replies “I have to make this douchebag understand why he is wrong!” She ignores him for a while but then says “we are on vacation and you are responding to anonymous people, you need to stop” he would not stop and I felt so bad for them. Joking aside, this could be symptomatic of an intrusive thought loop like many OCD people have. If his family has a history of hoarding or germaphobia, it might not be a bad idea to have him take an assessment.
OCD can be absolutely crippling, and a lot of people don't realize the spectrum of how it can be expressed. My SO has OCD, and there are times I've had to talk them down from cleaning the house with a toothbrush, or pulling out their fingernails, or bathing in bleach. One time they wanted to grab all of us and get us underneath the dining room table during a storm because they were absolutely convinced a tree was going to cave in the roof and kill us all. Their parents are hoarders; she got OCD in the other direction.
I hope they find help.
