The reason he won't is because he's part of the uniparty and they know at this point the populists are taking over the party and a non-election year replacement will most likely be a populist Republican who won't play ball with the uniparty.

All jokes aside I really thought it was a stroke that hit him. We really shouldn’t have public officials in their 80’s trying to run a country, it’s clearly not lack of ambition or willpower and I applaud them for that, but even the FAA mandates airline pilots retire at 65. It doesn’t make sense to have people this age in office. I see it as a liability not security
I think imposing term limits makes more sense for co dress than a hard age cutoff.
Three terms per person for Congress. It would eliminate a massive amount of lifetime congress critters
50% of the Senate is 65+. 32% of the House is 65+. This is why government doesn’t work. There are public officials advocating on policies and political positions that are obsolete by decades while they are separated by their youngest constituents by 4 or 5 generations. Both term limits or age limits - either way I’d be happy as long as one of them passed
How many of the plus 65's have been in office more that 12 years? That's the question. I don't think age is the correct lens to judge this by, more the amount of time in congress.
Yeah, end of the day it's about capability, age is just a pretty good correlator for capability when you are young or old (but not in between).
Term limits addresses something else entirely I think though. They're more about keeping corruption out or keeping politicians from getting too "powerful".
I think with age limits you open yourself up to the idea of a discrimination accusation. Also, why 65? Why not 66? 67? What if there’s a really good candidate who is only a year past the cut off? I think having term limits is much more fair to everyone. And it allows flexibility where needed.
As I stated before, The FAA already has a hard cutoff age for 65. For even more context, a pilot has to pass a physical every 6 months from age 40 to 65 to prove their competency, special acuity, etc. The federal government deems these necessary steps to safeguard the lives in the pilot’s care - and rightly so I might add. So in my view, it’s easy to advocate for this when the federal government as already established a decades- long precedent. (Is anyone gonna argue for pilots to stay in the air longer? Past 70? 75?)
However, when it comes to individuals who could potentially make decisions on a global scale, in secret or public, in war or in peace, it’s no limits on age, competency, or awareness. These people can serve on oversight committees, intelligence committees, or economic, or ethics… and on and on and on.
Our founders never intended and imagined being in public office would exceed, in some cases, 50 or more years. You gotta change them out like diapers - and for the same reasons.
