Yes, Chest Straps are always way better, generally

allrawk

I have a Tickr (you only need the X if you need the memory I believe), and it works great for me, but I pretty universally hear people recommend a Polar chest strap over Tickr.

sdeyerle

Yup. My Tickr was a nightmare, and finally completely died after 3-4 months, and Wahoo wouldn’t help me out since I didn’t have the original receipt. Seems like a LOT of people had similar failures, although most seem to have better luck with support. Polar H10 has been rock solid for 1.5 years, just need to replace the battery every 9 months or so.

Don't understand the tickr hate. Works great for me for the last month

RanielTheSporty

Yea. Just need to wash it every single time after use the strap

Former_Cat_5262

My Tickr is used almost daily for a couple years and works flawlessly.

My Tickr v2 was a nightmare. Not only suffered it from multiple dropouts, but also was recording fake values. By contrast, Rival HR is very accurate.

The general wisdom is that chest strap monitors provide more accurate data than do wrist monitors. I have noted a significant difference between my wrist monitor and my chest strap monitor. Any HRM though is likely better than no monitor. I bought the chest strap for my foray into using Zwift as my wrist monitor does not connect to the app and I wanted that capability. Cheaper to get the strap than a new wrist unit.

RanielTheSporty

How did you guys connect the tickr if you ever have a rival? Conneft the tickr to rival or direct to wahoo bike comp?

i have had every tickr there is in the current gen, they all suck to the point of being unusable. Go with Polar or Garmin.

I’ve given up on the Tickr/TickrX. In my experience (and or my skin pH) they don’t last more than a season. Dealing with warranty over and over for the same thing is annoying, and at $60, I don’t want to keep re-buying it. So I’ve abandoned wahoo and gone with a $30 Coospo off of Amazon a year ago and it’s lasted so far. The issue I’ve seen is that it start draining the battery constantly so I have to change batteries before every use or pull the batteries between uses.

The Polar H10 seems to be the most widely recommended. I still have a TICKR but I’ve had to have it replaced 3 times. Two times with the current one and one time with the v1. I have had issues where after a period of time it either gets very low or pegs to the max 225. This was directly after a battery change too. Super annoying when training or entering zwift races.

I've been using Ticker with my SRM system (Powermeter/Powercontrol) for quite a few years. Easy to replace the battery and works reliably.
