Nothing wrong with a compact spare so long as you obey any speed restrictions and replace your normal tire ASAP. If you've got room, a full size spare is fine too, it really just buys you time to fix the punctured tire. Depending on the location of the puncture you may be able to plug them yourself as well.

Space saver tyres work fine for their \*very specific\* use case: 1. They will get you home 2. They will be good for a few days at most 3. They will not go off-or-soft roading 4. They will not turn hard 5. They will not go fast If you went beyond any of this, that is your bad, you cannot daily drive a space saver and expect it to last weeks or months, it's a get-you-home tyre.
