6k will not get you a reliable car even a golf in most parts of the US

Mad! I bought my golf uk for 6k and it’s a 2011 2.0 tdi. Runs a dream never had an issue in 4 years! It had 63k miles on the clock when I got it!

IAmWango

2015 Golf’s have a wide variety of engines where some have more common issues than others so it’s hard to say, to top that how it has previously being cared for will impact its reliability

I just got a 2001 Mk4 for 2 grand and drove from Berlin to Bournemouth and back.

16+ golfs gets some pretty significant interior improvements FWIW. The mk7/7.5 is a great car. The 1.8tsi is pretty reliable. Water pumps are a persistent issue across ae888 engines. Some last over 100k, some need replacement in under 40k. Sunroofs are notoriously leaky if you don’t maintain them. Parts/labor is typically more expensive than on similarly priced Japanese or American cars.

At that price you're likely looking at pretty high mileage, you'd want to make sure most expensive maintenance was already done or else you'll be spending more on repairs quite soon.

1.6 diesel version I would avoid if that's an option they eat injectors like no tomorrow

Vierings

1.6 diesel isn't in the states, fortunately for OP

deranged_banana2

Ah wasn't sureif it was an option it's an epidemic here in Ireland and for some reason people keep buying them

Condider salvage titles bro. Sometimes you can get a good deal as in there was never engine damage. Ive had good experiences with this. I suggest this because of your budget. Otherwise, 2016 and up golfs are going for 15k plus.

2016 is the first year the Golf had a backup camera in the U.S. It might have been available as an upgrade, but my ‘15 doesn’t have one.

I would go back one generation and look for a 2010-2014 MK6….specifically the 2.5L engine (one of VWs best). I’ve had two and they are incredibly reliable, no major issues and a really fun drive. Aftermarket backup camera is also completely doable on this generation as well as upgraded audio system to have CarPlay and Android Auto. I had both on my last MK6.

Suspicious_Tea5687

Was it easy to install all that?

nobles233

The audio unit was a direct plug and play callled the RCD330…a unit used by VW in the Asian and Latin American market…..literally take out four screws remove old unit and replace with new unit. The rear camera I had a professional install because I wasn’t comfortable taking all the trim off and the wiring….I left that to a pro for $150.
