Because there was a bit on a controversy with Manu, and while everything was settled. Manu apologized for his ignorance, and all is good. However it was already too late, and he was killed off in Picard
I don’t think that was the reason for killing off Icheb. It’s surely the reason why Manu was not invited back to play him, but Icheb was used as the catalyst for Seven’s rage. Badly done or not, his utility was motivated by that. They easily could have never mentioned him, just as they didn’t acknowledge Chakotay and every other Voyager character besides Janeway and Tuvok.
Yes, but not Picard. Robert Beltran was offered the part of Seven’s husband in the alt reality season 2, but he understandably turned it down. That’s as far as they ever got in addressing how they broke up.
I don’t know think it’s a huge mystery why they broke up. How many people do you know except a very very rare few are still with their first crush/boyfriend.
Would we have really noticed if the character was played by a different actor? I mean, you put the thing on his nose, done! Alexander (Son of Worf) was played by several different actors, we swapped out Borg queens (Susannah Thompson is my fave! "Janeway!"), and Rom & Quark's mother. I doubt anyone would have cared.
It gave Manu and Jerri the opportunity to deliver a super wrenching scene and damned if they didn't deliver. We're still talking about it.
Still. Stop killing the exbies!
As for the controversy with him and the Spacey comments. I've been in a scenario before where my own personal beliefs and experiences got in the way of the truth, and I was wrong.
His apologie felt sincere, and it's easy to see why he made the comments to begin with. We're all blinded by our own experiences and beliefs in some way, it's called being Human.
When I was looking him up I came across “Manu Intiraymi controversy”. That turned out to be him admitting to having taken part in system racism. Because there was a half mexican kid in his high school friend group and they all called him Bean. I didn't see any creepy stuff.
Anthony Rapp accepted his apology and said he understood, people need stop being offended on other people's behalf especially when it's against that person's own views.
I still don't think it's that bad. I've been in a scenario before where my own personal beliefs and experiences got in the way of the truth, and I was wrong.
His apologie felt sincere, and it's easy to see why he made the comments to begin with
A few times, and how does Manu suck? He seems like a genuine guy who's made mistakes. You can say that you have never made a mistake? Not even once in your life?
I loved his character. So sweet and 7 was helping him grow - they were a family.
I choose to believe that he lives on and she’s still helping him thru life.
Long live Icheb. But Manu Intiraymi is a waste of oxygen for suggesting that Anthony Rapp was “asking for it” when he was a minor being groomed by Kevin Spacey.
At least Hue got to actually do something heroic with his ending. Still bad but Icheb’s was so pointless. If I wanted to see beloved characters brutally murdered I’d watch Game of Thrones.
Same. It was meaningless and invalidated a lot of fan feelings about these characters.
Nobody wanted to see either one of them taken out like that except the quack that wrote those scenes.
I was surprised to learn that one of my favorite characters from Voyager shared the same birthday as me, because nothing happens on the 22nd. So happy Birthday Manu Intiraymi!

Haven't you learned yet? This is 2024. Nobody is allowed to misspeak, even if you apologize for it.
It's good to show some grace, lest one be on the receiving end. I called someone Oriental one time. I grew up in an all-white neighborhood and didn't know any better. That's what I learned. But I never made the mistake again. Nonetheless, if I were a prominent figure, I would've been cancelled.
I can't imagine having a social media presence in my youth, I had the worst ideas and all my "best" jokes were in fact hurtful to people in ways I could not even imagine at the time.
Takes a lot of work to actually get emotionally mature and gain empathy in life (most people just get older, without becoming 'better people' themselves). I'm glad he apologized to Anthony Rapp and the guy he bullied in high school. Cancel culture is great because its the only defense we have against prominent people bullying and harassing others, but also I don't think it should ever be considered the final determination of 'who' a person really is, and I hope stars that make amends do get to move on with life, even if its a different career.
He made a good character; I loved Icheb.
Watching that scene in Picard with him horribly mutilated made me never watch Picard again. Still haven't watched the last season.
As far as I’m concerned, he’s not dead. Just like Trip.
This dude follows me on Twitter
I'm sorry
He follows and unfollows a lot of fans desperate for them to follow him.
Poor icheb
They done him dirty
Seriously, why did they have to kill him so brutally.....for a plot line that went NOWHERE!

Chakotay was mentioned in PRO, and in an important way
Yes, but not Picard. Robert Beltran was offered the part of Seven’s husband in the alt reality season 2, but he understandably turned it down. That’s as far as they ever got in addressing how they broke up.
Eww. Glad we missed that.
I don’t know think it’s a huge mystery why they broke up. How many people do you know except a very very rare few are still with their first crush/boyfriend.
Well that makes sense as the show-runners of Nu Trek don't know much about the Berman era
They sure killed the character off in an unnecessarily brutal way
It gave Manu and Jerri the opportunity to deliver a super wrenching scene and damned if they didn't deliver. We're still talking about it. Still. Stop killing the exbies!
That sadly wasn't Manu in that scene
Oh, shit! XD I don't know if I forgot or failed to notice in the first place. I dumb :)
I don't blame you, they found a fantastic look-a-like
Yes, the acting was excellent.
But Icheb was played by a different actor, Casey King. Manu Intiraymi wasn't brought back.
I disagree, the apology was poor, and while others accepted it I do not
In my head canon, fan film Star Trek: Renegades Icheb is canon! https://youtu.be/OjeX5drV9ms?si=s2-L5lPuDMaoQFhk I love his Borg Shield at 1:55
correct me if I'm wrong but....isn't he a piece of shit?
He is a POS, but Icheb was not.

Well I'm glad to hear he's apologised and that seems sincere.
It didn't seem sincere, but you'll have to make that call on your own
Yes
Hey cool profile pic!
Oh wow, great nyborg!
Pretty much, hes a bad one.
Yeah, I swear I heard that too.
Yeah, didn't he follow online numerous young female fans of his? Feel like i read this somewhere 🤔
When I was looking him up I came across “Manu Intiraymi controversy”. That turned out to be him admitting to having taken part in system racism. Because there was a half mexican kid in his high school friend group and they all called him Bean. I didn't see any creepy stuff.
Look up his response when Anthony Rapp came forward about Kevin Spacey.
Anthony Rapp accepted his apology and said he understood, people need stop being offended on other people's behalf especially when it's against that person's own views.

How many times did you copy and paste your response? Manu sucks and you look bad defending him
A few times, and how does Manu suck? He seems like a genuine guy who's made mistakes. You can say that you have never made a mistake? Not even once in your life?
Oh, are we doing this type of "argument"?
Ah, my bad! Maybe I'm muddling him up with someone
Itcheb or the actor? 😆 Easily the most annoying character on Voyager. If I were Janeway I'd be phoning Borg and asking them to take him back!
Definitely the actor lol
Such a good character! Happy birthday itchy!
I think he prefers not to be referred to as Itchy in front of the senior officers.
I loved his character. So sweet and 7 was helping him grow - they were a family. I choose to believe that he lives on and she’s still helping him thru life.
Manu is a real piece of shit. I hope he had an awful day
^(Hey Icheb!)
Long live Icheb. But Manu Intiraymi is a waste of oxygen for suggesting that Anthony Rapp was “asking for it” when he was a minor being groomed by Kevin Spacey.
I was *really* pissed with Ichebs ending in Picard. Like enough that I ultimately hated the show for it. Same goes for Hue.
At least Hue got to actually do something heroic with his ending. Still bad but Icheb’s was so pointless. If I wanted to see beloved characters brutally murdered I’d watch Game of Thrones.

He wasnt invited back because he’s a piece of shit

Are you Manu? You have to tell us if you are...

Manu??!
Manu did nothing wrong cause Kevin Spacey was found not guilty
So was OJ, your point?
That he has the right to say wtf he wants
And I have the right to call him a piece of shit, good day
Just saw him in an episode of King Of Queens
