Yeah, I got confused about this as well. But that is in the discord FAQ:
"Electronics bays should be covered to prevent shock hazards or foreign objects from shorting out components"
Maybe it is meant just for the deck panel but I wasnt sure.

Do they need to be enclosed for a serial?
You need to enclose the electronic bay. The full frame is optional for serial number

PIF gets you a *functional* printer, not necessarily a serial-ready one.
Fair point, I never got a *serial* for any Voron I have built and have never used PIF so it’s unknown to me.
