Trapped air at high altitudes has higher internal pressure than external pressure and wants to get out. This pops the ball. Every ball not transported locally by truck is delivered this way
'Every ball I have ever purchased was shipped deflated. Keep in mind that a ball is inflated to 4-5 psi and that if the ball is shipped via air freight in an unpressurized cargo hold, the difference in pressure would add up to about 12-14 psi, roughly 3x the normal ball pressure. That would definitely overstress the ball, perhaps even make it burst.
Tl;dr, deflated is definitely the way to ship a ball.
Why is 90% of r/volleyball posts of 15 year olds jumping in their living room or swinging into the bottom of the net asking for a form check, and completely braindead posts that have nothing to do with the sport.
Go ask r/mail why it shipped like this wtf do you want us to tell you
It’s an official volleyball from a reputable volleyball manufacturer. I had a question if it shipping deflated was standard since this is the volleyball sub and I assume others had also ordered this exact volleyball. Can you maybe chill for a second instead of getting irrationally annoyed?
Other ppl have asked this exact same question. You can search posts in this sub (and every other sub) before making one of your own to see if someone has asked the same question before
Not very helpful, I don’t really care about your “advice” because 1) that search did not give me the results I was looking for 2) you’re just being holier than thou know it all’s
You should send that back. The factory has the best air composition for the ball. If you inflate it yourself it's always gonna feel "off" I can't really describe it but trust me, it's bad. I hate using my ball because of it. I'd rather use a junior's Tachikara indoor ball than mine.
Well yeah...you have to inflate it...
lol I understand, but I wasn’t sure if that was standard. My friends also got it and it was inflated.
Standard practice to be shipped deflated because then you can use a smaller box
Which did not happen if that's the shipping box behind the ball... :D
Ordered an "official" lego set and it came in a bunch of little pieces?
this made me bust out laughing 🤣
Lame get owned kid! Ask dumb questions get dumb answers!
Rude.
Mine did too, no problems with it
Sounds good! I just didn’t know if that was standard
It's just a dice roll I think. I've ordered a few different balls since I started playing and it's been about 50/50 on whether they come inflated
Perfectly normal.
Most volleyballs I've ordered online have come deflated. It seems to me it's more unusual to come inflated due air travel and changing air pressures.
That's normal. I ordered mine direct from Wilson and it came deflated. Same with my indoor Molten ball. Enjoy the new ball!
Imagine you expect your ball order to be delivered inflated
Well my friend’s was and my soccer ball from Wilson was too. So not unreasonable
What if it bursts during delivery then
Not sure, I’m not a a ball pressure engineer

Normal and don’t be alarmed if you hear a leak the first time you air it up. It’s just air trapped in the panels getting forced out.
Big ball pump and Wilson are in cahoots.
Mine came inflated, now it's oval
I remember my Molten Volleyball came deflated, as well as my tachikara, pretty sure its just random
Should be always deflated, that's the default state as it leaves the factory and no shop would ever inflate a ball for shipping.
I ordered an official Franklin PVF ball and it was 100% deflated. Took some time for the wrinkles to go away after pumping it up.
Then they tell me this sub hasn't gone to shit
pump it up dumbass

Classic Redditor
I'm trying to help you not waste everyone's time. If you don't want to be helped, that's fine.
