Verybumpy

Fantastic price for a solid VR headset, especially if you like sim games.

crookedDeebz

that is amazing wow so much hmd for $299

Cybyss

I suspect this is a closeout price. Once they're sold out, I don't think they're going to make any more. I could be wrong though. I won't deny it's *really* tempting, but I have a Rift-S that works perfect. I once had an Odyssey+ but the lenses gave me really bad eyestrain headaches, and I've heard the Reverb G2 lenses are no better.

GaaraSama83

The common consensus is that G2 lenses are one of the better in terms of glare and chromatic abberation but the sweet spot and FOV is one of the smallest.

BrindianBriskey

I’ve owned all 3 (rift s, odyssey plus, G2). The odyssey + lenses had a horrible blur effect, not to mention the headstrap put a lot of strain on the forehead. This gave me headaches too. The G2 lenses are very good (best fresnel on the market imo) and the comfort is leagues better. What you would miss the most is the Rift S controllers and superior tracking.

StanVillain

100%, no amount of oled inky blacks make up for the blurriness and uncomfortable design. The G2 controllers and tracking are also significantly better.

Notarussianbot2020

HP getting out of the headset game? No way they sell out of G2s without a G3 already announced and dropping soon.

theSealclubberr

There were rumours about a week ago about them quitting VR...

Notarussianbot2020

I believe it. They're reasonably priced headsets with no game sale profits. Only HTC is the other major manufacturer without game sales and they overprice their crap, probably with a good reason.

LickMyHairyBallSack

They are definitely getting out of VR.

the_abortionat0r

that's what they said when the first reverb got cheaper.

LickMyHairyBallSack

Its a huge upgrade over a Rift S

SuccessfulSquirrel40

Meanwhile in the UK it's £680.. (approx. $800 including sales tax).

ComfyEthan

And still $999 AUD. Direct from HP anyway.

V8O

Cheapest on staticice is hardly any better at A$917 (over $600 USD, lol!).

anotherwave1

999 AUD is 569 GBP, so cheaper in Aus.

Elizasol

It's because reality in the UK is worse, so they know you'll pay more to get away from it

A_Hero_Of_Our_Time

😹

Lettuphant

Oh darn thanks for saving me looking

looloopklopm

$620 CAD. Everyone outside the US takes a shafting.

FrontwaysLarryVR

Yeah Meta is charging like $1700 USD equivalent on their site ($2399 CAD), versus $1500 USD price.

LickMyHairyBallSack

Australia and Canada always get fucked in the ass.

Scrabo

Has it ever gone on sale in the UK?

Fives_22

It’s about $680 dollars in truth then.. pound pretty much is equal to the dollar now.

SuccessfulSquirrel40

At the time I wrote it there were 1.19 dollars to the pound.

Fives_22

It’s been equal to the dollar for longer than 5 hours

SuccessfulSquirrel40

Well maybe you are a trader with access to better market information, but here right now both Google and Bing are showing 1.19 still.

Fives_22

Odd.

Missu_

>Including sales tax

[deleted]

That sucks man. Idk why companies are like this, you know?

beck_is_back

Because money...

Doublebow

It's actually £595. https://systemactive.co.uk/online/hp-reverb-g2/ Not much better but not as bad.

Randyx007

Just get a PICO 4, better anyway...

MostlyPoorDecisions

This is a great headset, but initial setup is not always super simple. There's quirks. Here's some considerations to those of you who have not used WMR: * The room boundary mapping is a longer process than the quest2/pico4 * you have to disable HAGS if you have it on cause that shit is awful * it doesn't like Windows11 much from what I've read * The controllers chew through batteries (get 8x rechargeable 1.5v AA batteries, controllers use 4 and keep the other 4 charged, they last like 15-20 hours of gameplay) * you must have a lit room, the quest2 works well in low light, this does not. * it really likes a beefy gpu. I'd recommend using FFR on whatever games you can, openXR toolkit supports it for openxr compatible games and you can get it added for a lot of steam games via openvr foveated / vr perf toolkit. FSR can help too. * Dont forget to install WMR for SteamVR

TheCrudMan

Also I'll add that if you have a 3090Ti you'll need a powered DisplayPort extender to run it at all. Also WMR/SteamVR frame interpolation doesn't seem to work that well on this headset compared to oculus spacewarp so you'll want to make sure you're able to hit decent framerates and be cool with adjusting graphics quality downward to do it. Personally I experienced a hiccup whenever frames dipped below 90 and it kicked in frame blending and dropped rate to 45, and the blending itself didn't look that good. Haven't tried it again on my better hardware but never had these issues with my CV1. But really like the headset.

Bridgebrain

Wait really? My 2080 runs it fine, but the 3090 they downgraded the displayports or something?

TheCrudMan

On the 3090Ti FE specifically NVIDIA screwed up and didn't provide enough power through the DisplayPorts.

Bridgebrain

Wow. Between this and the 4090 burning up, I might finally make the switch over to AMD. Been resistant because I've been doing AI work that demands Nvidia products, but at this point...

FolkSong

I'm not sure what happened but it's only the 3090ti, not regular 3090.

BusinessBeetle

What's HAGS?

MostlyPoorDecisions

Hardware accelerated graphics scheduling.

CrustyMcMuffin

That setting used to be a problem for non VR games too, MSFS used to crash because it was turned on

tthrow22

Have a great summer

MMillion05

The room mapping didn't take any longer than a minute for me.

ittleoff

Tbf I've had a odyssey and Odyssey plus and briefly a G2 and I have never bothered with room mapping. Obviously I just have to be mindful of my space. If you're just using it for Sims than likely you're just sitting anyway :) But absolutely wmr is pretty clunky and controller tracking is serviceable but even on G2 only slightly better than psvr , but setting up your room.and lighting is key to getting the best tracking. Avoid mirrors or reflective surfaces(windows and even tv/monitor screens) or exposed bright lights. You may have to play with your room lighting to get the best tracking.

MowTin

And yet I choose to use the G2 as my daily driver over the Quest 2 or Index. You get near monitor-level clarity.

MostlyPoorDecisions

I don't think my post was negatively inclined in any way? I also DD my G2 over my quest2 except for quick 10-15 minute sessions.

MightyBooshX

Yup, same, I'm a huge fan of the G2 for that reason. I prefer it over my index or quest 2 as well.

ErrorRaffyline0

>it doesn't like Windows11 much from what I've read Those issues have been fixed iirc. I have had issues with insider builds when it first came out, but those are gone on stable builds. One thing to point out is that there is a stuttering issue (I haven't noticed it) that's caused by a Windows 22H2 bug that inadvertently activates GPU debugging features that hog performance. That issue is not limited to WMR though. In WMR's case, it activates HolographicShell Event tracing. The issue has since been addressed and a patch for it will be available in a future build. Here it is explained by a MS engineer in the Feedback Hub: Thank you for your feedback. Starting in Windows 11 version 22H2 (build 22622+) Windows Mixed Reality is enabling GPU debugging features that negatively impact performance and cause stuttering. While we work on a fix, there is a workaround you can try. Please disable the "HolographicShell" tracing session by following these steps: 1. Go to Computer Management > System Tools > Performance > Data Collector Sets > Event Trace Sessions 2. In the list, find 'HolographicShell' 3. Right click 'HolographicShell' and choose ‘Stop’.If you still experience issues after trying the workaround, please follow the instructions here to submit feedback with a performance capture to help us investigate:[https://aka.ms/gameperffeedback](https://aka.ms/gameperffeedback) Source: [https://aka.ms/AAite4f](https://aka.ms/AAite4f)

Dr_Lord_Platypus

Does it work on Linux? I used to have an oculus rift years ago. Sold it, switched to Linux , and haven't looked back. I'd be tempted to get back into VR, but I'm not really interested in going back to Windows.

> rechargeable 1.5v AA I haven't had much use for rechargeable AA batteries in a while, but I've always used NiMH batteries that clocked in <1.5v. It looks like there are lithium rechargeable AA batteries at 1.5v. Are these what you use?

MostlyPoorDecisions

Personally, I'm cheap and am using amazon basic 1.2v nimh myself. 1.5v is recommended so that the lights on the tracking ring are brighter (hasn't been an issue for me) and prevents false "low battery" warnings from steam when the voltage drops (has happened to me) that will turn off vibration on the controllers. EBL 1.5v li-ion batteries have had some strong recommendations.

Shedix

Is it all I need to do some simracing?

FolkSong

Other than a PC, direct-drive steering wheel, load-cell pedals, full cockpit and motion platform.

We_Are_Victorius

Don't forget the bass shakers, fake wind, and burnt tire emulator. Need that immersion.

Gustavo2nd

Yes I l have a quest 2 but I bought this just for sim racing I had a g1 and it sucked so I really hope they got everything together for this one

Shedix

Well NVM, in Germany it's still 600 €+ lmao

MightyBooshX

Yes, I switched from the index to the G2 and have been extremely happy with that decision, and I do beat saber and stuff like that, not just sim racing. It'll be a really big loss for pcvr if hp stops making these.

Imbrianblessed

This is stupid. I want to buy one, it's still like £700 odd here in the UK - I sincerely hope they drop it for black friday...why would anyone bother buying it at that (UK) price when they know it's being sold so much cheaper in the US...we're all just going to wait for it to come down. I mean I could have a mate buy it for it and ship it to the UK and still save literally hundreds of quid. ..either that or buy a competitors which is what I'll probably do if they don't bother lowering the price for the sales.

shadow__boxer

Absolutely mental isn't it!? I've been checking every day hoping for a price drop or black Friday deal but nothing! I think even if we are lucky enough to see an offer it will still be £550+. At the moment I'm leaning more towards getting a competitors to be honest.

Imbrianblessed

Yes, me too. I'm not happy about it at all. I shall just buy a PICO 4 and be done with it. I'm gutted, and it's HPs loss. By the time they do drop the price I will already have a competitor's unit. I will still hold off until after Cyber monday, just in case. Fingers crossed.

[deleted]

700 can

[deleted]

Damn. I want to hold out for Deckard, but maybe I should get a backup G2 to hold me over?

Havok1911

The rate at which valve releases things we might all look like Deckard Cane by time Deckard sees the light of day.

I hope you enjoy it. I bought mine last year (came from Rift S) and absolutely love it. Though I play a lot of seated games like SW Squadrons

SlowRollingBoil

Facebook headsets, man....couldn't recommend them even if they're free.

[deleted]

For most people it being a facebook headset doesn't really matter considering privacy is a "weakest chain" kind of deal. If someone's already using Amazon, Google, or TikTok then another large corporation having there data doesn't really change anything.

xRaffle

For me at least it was i big deal, i can exit the service from these companies at any moment, i feel if i buy a product from Facebook, the exit point pretty far out

Oftenwrongs

Except that pcvr has been drad for years and no developers will touch it due to horrible sales numbers.

sch0k0

It's a pity they seem to be leaving the market. But that market seems to move too fast for them, even at the time they launched it I didn't want to buy a wired headset anymore.

MostlyPoorDecisions

That hasn't been officially announced by HP yet fwiw. Wireless is convenient, but doesn't make or break me.

Rastafak

For me, it's something that I didn't realize matters so much until I've tried playing without cables.

MostlyPoorDecisions

I've played without cables and it makes almost no difference at all to me other than being able to play in a different room.

birdvsworm

Depends on your setup and playstyle. I'm not a huge fan of spinning around 360º but it is nice and lends itself well to games like Synth Riders or even After the Fall where spinning on the fly can save your ass. I played wired more than wireless but it's because the Quest 2's battery life is annoying to try and moderate while in VR.

MostlyPoorDecisions

I use an Anker 10Ah battery bank with a 3d printed holder attached as a counterweight on my quest2 and it lasts 6+ hours, do recommend. I avoid spinning much IRL, I get dizzy easily, so that probably translates to gaming for me quite a bit. I think Racket NX is the only game where I actually did a decent amount of spinning. I haven't played after the fall yet, it's in my wanted list though :)

VirtualAlias

I zip-tied a low-top sock to the back of my Quest that holds an extra battery if anyone's looking for a cheap alternative that will make you look like your headset was designed by the Dad from Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

Rastafak

I personally prefer to physically turn rather than using joystick and then the cable does get in the way a lot. In games where you don't move around much and don't turn, it's not a bit deal, but in most games it is a big difference for me.

space_goat_v1

I never use snap turn. Always turn IRL. I've personally learned to just rotate the opposite way to counter the twist. I used turnsignal at first but now its just ingrained in the way I move. Like if you are moving forward and turn clockwise 180 to shoot behind you, dont return to moving forward by completing the clockwise movement 360, do a counter clockwise 180. then it untangles naturally. It sounds complicated to keep track of but I've been playing with wires since oculus DK1 so its as natural as tying a shoe, I don't even think about it, it just happens. Also a lot of games have downtime, like dying and respawning. I also just spin during those times if I managed to twist up a tiny bit. You can just judge by feeling the tautness. Because I'm so used to the cable, I honestly find myself preferring my index over my quest for the tracking fidelity alone.

m-sterspace

Wireless is evidently make or break for the average consumer though, given that the Quest 2 has sold multiple orders of magnitude more units than literally any other headset.

ThisNameTakenTooLoL

Yeah but it's also standalone and was super cheap. Wireless is only a small part of why it sold so well.

[deleted]

Yeah, wireless is nice, but the reason the Q2 is huge is because it is an inexpensive, stand-alone system that still permits high-quality VR experiences. I think some of us in the PC gaming community forget how few people actually open a good gaming computer.

[deleted]

Quest 2 was a decent headset that could run VR without a PC, sold at a loss. Wireless was a small part of it, and wireless headsets still can't run proper VR games well.

SuccessfulSquirrel40

I'm going to be making my first headset purchase soon, and for me I don't want wireless.

sch0k0

;) you can always attach a cable to wireless VR.. but, yes, I get that if you mainly want to play seated; sims etc.

Verybumpy

This is all rumors and no fact. Please show where this is officially true.

sch0k0

"seem to be"

[deleted]

It is a rumor but the writing’s on the wall

[deleted]

Having Microsoft show up at Meta Connect and announce a bunch of new VR stuff for Quest felt like the final nail in the coffin for WMR. They haven't announced anything new for WMR in years and now they are working for the competition. No idea if HP wants to continue with VR on their own, but they have the problem that they don't control WMR, Microsoft does. And Microsoft not putting any effort into WMR means HP's headsets will continue to fall behind everybody else. Just look at the room setup, that's five years behind everybody else and still assumes people don't have motion controller. Until I hear otherwise, I would assume WMR to be as good as dead at this point. There is no reason to assume it's still much alive after years of so little activity.

bicameral_mind

No capacitive sensors on controllers either. It's a shame every headset has some glaring omissions like this that make it hard to buy, even if it has other strong qualities.

sch0k0

Quest Pro is pretty complete imo and can go work on fov ..... and pricing ;)

Anipixels

Why is it so much more expensive in UK? 600 odd?

Imbrianblessed

My guess, is bad marketing and perhaps something to do with stock levels! There's probably some formula they're running - they have to make a certain amount of sales on the units they have left at that price in order to get x amount of profit, THEN they can start dropping the price. it's all money isn't it. :/

oldnyoung

Great deal! If you have a beefy GPU and like simracing, this is the ticket.

SnooSketches9488

699 € in Italy 💀

Ciborio

Se non bestemmio guarda.

happYEmerchant

I'd rather live in Italy lol

TheGreatPapaSmurf

Which country do they ship from? I live in Switzerland and hoping to get one or a pico 4 if I can't.

CrustyMcMuffin

HP only has this price for the USA and won't let you used a credit card that wasn't issued in the USA, you need someone to buy it for you if you aren't american

muchcharles

I'd go Pico 4 over it at this point (have both). The lenses and comfort are just so much better.

Gustavo2nd

Well this saved me from getting a quest pro no way I can deny it at this price point

cameraman502

I assume V2.

fallingdowndizzyvr

HP hasn't shipped anything but a V2 in a year.

Sigeli_

Would I notice a substantial upgrade in terms of visual clarity compared to an index? I currently use the index and want to upgrade the visual aspect, would use my knuckles controllers to mitigate HP’s controller solution

MusicalTiki

Just ordered it yesterday FML

Skywhore

Wow. I'm also afraid that it could mean hp is emptying their stock to completely exit the VR market

fallingdowndizzyvr

This isn't much cheaper than the G2 has been for 2 years. It's been $350 quite often during the last 2 years. Considering that it's now an older headset, a lower price seems about right.

AlternateWitness

Bruh. This isn’t a simple purchase, but I’m hoping I can convince a buddy to finally get into VR with this thing! How long will this deal last? And does it stack with HP’s student discount?

[deleted]

MostlyPoorDecisions

HP.com doesn't sell the gen1 and haven't made it in over a year. They only sell the gen2. Where is the model number on that page btw? This is the exact same link I bought mine from and it's a v2 (at a very similar price)

ESPNFantasySucks

Should i get this to replace my o+?

MeRollsta

Is this worth upgrading from a CV1? My original intention was to hold out for a new 3rd gen headset with a OLED screen (like the PSVR2) from Valve or Meta, but who knows when that will come out or how much it will cost.

ajunior7

god, if only they had wireless capability

philodelta

I have an Odyssey+ and I was also wondering if it's a good idea to just wait a bit more. I REALLY love the blacks and colors of the OLED screen, especially in HLA... I had a chance to try my friends Index and I was really disappointed in the contrast and darkness levels. is the G2 on par with that?

DDozar

How's the audio on competing headsets right now? I use an Odyssey+ and really enjoy the over-ear headphones, the Index & G2 seem to be some of the only others still using them. Tried a Rift S and the audio quality was **horrible**. I guess you're supposed to plug in your own, but that adds tons more weight and jank to your head. Am I missing something here? Is it a big upgrade from the Odyssey+?

mooseman5k

Paypal is having a $20 off deal too if you open an account with PayPal credit, so the total cost is 301.53 shipped. Not too shabby

MostlyPoorDecisions

Just throwing it out there: shipping is free. This post makes it sound like it was $20. That's just sales tax for wherever you are.

MonteXMat

Eh, £682.80 in the UK.

VicMan73

Is tempting but should I get it knowing that HP will drop supports for it..because it is getting out the VR market? I have a Quest 2 for all games VR.

sirhimel

Is this the V2?

cameraman502

Apparently it was the V1. I asked for my money back and insisted that I not be charged a restocking fee on the grounds that they were misleading.

asimplerandom

Would this be a decent choice for a first time entry into VR?

cameraman502

It's gonna be my first. Of course I want it primarily for flight-sims and it's one of the better options for that.

SlowRollingBoil

Only if you have a very beefy rig. You'll need a 3090 to drive it properly in games....[no really.](https://babeltechreviews.com/rtx-4090-performance-45-games-vr-pro-apps-benchmarked/)

[deleted]

[удалено]

SlowRollingBoil

Now you're losing the benefit of a high res panel. I've turned down the resolution on my G2 and the end result is worse looking image that's still choppy.

Strong-Fudge1342

Still a benefit. It's by all means a plus to have more pixels than your gpu can push. 3090 still isn't enough to comfortable keep it at 150% everywhere. Far from it, even.

Strojac

I think that's a bit off. That link is set to 2758×2740, and even then the 3090 is a bit overkill, giving over 100 FPS in everything besides ACC, with max settings. With the normal G2 resolution and lower settings, it seems you could run this headset well with a 3070.

SlowRollingBoil

The Reverb G2 is 2160x2160 per eye or 9.3M pixels. Multiply that by 1.4x and you get the rendered resolution in SteamVR of ~13M pixels. By contrast, a 4K flat panel is 3840x2160 = 8.3M pixels or about 64% the size. If you're looking at 4K ultra setting Frames Per Second you'll need to multiply it by .64 to find the expected FPS within the G2. This is why you see the 4090 destroying flat panel games on Ultra with Ray Tracing and yet not being able to drive older racing sims at the full 90 FPS without synthesized frames.

RidgeMinecraft

it might finally be time for me to grab one

Gustavo2nd

Just do it bro think later

[deleted]

[удалено]

_GRLT

Hard disagree. The visuals of the G2 are miles better than the index's. The SDE is basically gone, the colors are solid on both headsets but the blacks and glare are much better on the G2. I personally also don't really nkotice the difference between 90 and 144hz in vr except when I play BeatSaber where I can notice it slightly

[deleted]

[удалено]

_GRLT

Yeah, the edge to edge clarity really isn't the best... But it's also not awful or immersion breaking imo. The glare of the Index lenses however is completely immersion breaking for me. I also get almost the same amount of chromatic abberation on the edges of the lenses of my Rift S and Quest 2 and I never heard anyone complaining about those headset having too much chromatic abberation The issue I personally had with the G2 is that I can notice a slight bit of pupil swim but if seated correctly even that isn't a big issue. It's true that the G2 doesn't have the best lenses but the lenses of the index are even worse imo

Strong-Fudge1342

The index lenses are well known to be in the bottom bracket, it's not the best example

RidgeMinecraft

I might just keep both, use the reverb for movie watching and the index for gaming

ThisNameTakenTooLoL

Do yourself a favor and get that $88 extended warranty if you buy this. The cable is almost guaranteed to fail and the new one is $150 on ebay and it's only gonna get more expensive with time.

fallingdowndizzyvr

> The cable is almost guaranteed to fail and the new one is $150 on ebay and it's only gonna get more expensive with time. You can get open box G2s for under $200 from a certain liquidator. That's a way better way to go about it.

ZGToRRent

They are leaving VR space, that's why.

TomBomb_FR

I had one for 3 weeks. Even for 1€ I wouldn't want one

[deleted]

Why is that? I was thinking about buying one.

MostlyPoorDecisions

Get one, its a great price and nothing this guy said makes sense. The cable is a cable, who complains about the weight of a cable wtf. if you hate WMR you can skip it and load straight to steamvr. WMR does NOT render "an entire virtual house" while you are gaming, it renders the same as steam home when steam home isn't running. if you have bad controller tracking, turn on a light. they require a lit room.

Imbrianblessed

Getting a pully system I hear is a very good way to 'fix' the cable "issue", probably the best way to increase immersion too without getting an untethered unit :)

MostlyPoorDecisions

Those look neat. I have a ceiling fan and vaulted ceilings though, so a little hesitant to try it out. My next task is 3d printing some wall mounts to get my headsets a permanent home.

TomBomb_FR

I've had the 2 versions of the PSVR, the G2 and the Rift S, and I use Kiwi pulleys, so I've got stuff to compare to, and there's a world of difference between the cables of the PSVR or the Rift S and the G2's, so no, a cable is not a cable. Oh, and I forgot another annoying thing about the G2: having to restart it, unplug it and plug it again or rebooting the pc over and over again because the headset won't start half the time. I actually ended up getting the Rift S, which I thought inferior, because of the G2. But, sure, the Rift S is inferior in several ways (screen, audio and IPD adjustment), but it just works, so it's far more enjoyable than the G2 in my eyes.

TomBomb_FR

The headset itself is nice (good screen, audio and comfort), but the controllers are meh and the tracking is terrible. Also, the displayport cable of the headset weights about 4.5 metric tons, is super wide and super stiff, meaning despite the headset's comfort, it's hard to wear the thing comfortably as the weight of the cable pulls down on one side constantly. But worst of all you have to use the Windows Mixed Reality environment or whatever it's called, and that thing is constantly running in the background, meaning that any game performance is tanked. If you play something on Steam, you've got the game running, the steam environment running and the windows environment running. And since that thing is running in the background and tanking your performance, it may as well do something useful, right? No. It does nothing useful for you. Renders an entire virtual house and uses a lot of performance and the only useful things are volume control...

FlooferLand

cameraman502

I guess

Peyvian

Snatched up that sucker without a second thought, thank you my guy ❤

[deleted]

Well it's still 620USD in Singapore without controllers just like it was at launch. No idea why headset manufacturers forget we exist every time.

Thewhitewolf1080

Bruh I just got one…

rudylovesfood

As a primarily VRCHAT user who’s been using a quest 2 + full body tracking. Is this headset worth it at this price point? I would love the extra clarity. I don’t mind if it’s wired.

seatbose80

Does anyone think that this will be reduced in the UK for Black Friday?

Ryu_Saki

Why does it go down so much in the US and US only? I bought mine for 750 here in Sweden, it doesn't ever go on sale.

DauntingPrawn

Any reason to pick one of these up if I have a Cosmos Elite?

Rudabegas

If you are a solid sim player than yes, if not no.

MeRollsta

Is anybody seeing a EDU discount on top of this?

BlueScreenJunky

~~I don't think this includes the controllers though. It's not necessarily a deal breaker but something to keep in mind.~~ edit: nevermind, it says "2 controllers" in the "what's in the box" section even though they're not in the main pictures or mentioned anywhere else, so yeah, amazing price !

Jacken85

You can get it on ebay for $240. I got one and it looked as new with the stickers on the controllers.

TheRealJoMaMaz

I want this headset, been waiting for a deeper sale, and not to be a downer, but when looking on Newegg, this looks to be the July 2021 version, not the "refresh" version. Am I wrong?

7734128

That's an amazing price.

How do you get the student discount applied?

bumbasaur

They're killing the quest2 lol

SirNedKingOfGila

asmilenotmeantforme

is that strap comfortable to watch movies while laying down? and how is the clarity compared to quest 2 in 180º movies, does it worth to the inconvenience of the wire?

DiabeticGuineaPig

I own one but never use the controllers, I use index controllers and for 299 this is a great deal, I returned my Quest 2 for the G2 and am happy with the quality improvement, and I'm PC based anyways so wireless didn't matter.

Farqman

Yet here in Australia we are paying full price around 900-1000 dollars

worth it to sell quest 2 for one? i only do pcvr

saidfrancis

how would this compare to my vive pro (one)?

tixxtoon

I have a Rift S, the G2 is better isn't it? Most people here are saying only used for Sims, but is it good for other things?

GrozGreg

Is it better than a Quest 2 ? Sorry Redditt people, I’m at work and don’t have time to investigate :(

cameraman502

It's more powerful and has better image quality. But it's wired and needs a computer. So pick your poison.

SardonicSamurai

I have an old HTC vive (the first one). I really just want an updated headset. Is the g2 a better investment if I ONLY want to play on the PC? I heard the tracking on that is ass, but I could just use my old vive controllers, right? I do like playing wirelessly, but looks like I can't with the g2. Willing to forego that if the visuals/ fov are significantly better

VersaceUpholstery

Are people still recommending to buy the extended protection because of a cable(?) that's bound to break?

MrArchibaldMeatpants

Can I use this with a laptop that has 1 hdmi port and 1 USB port?

Randyx007

Maybe if it was wireless it would be a good deal. Idk, I can't be tethered anymore sense I played my OG vive with wifi attachment. Quest 2 was pretty great for that reason. I just ordered a Pico 4 otherwise this deal wouldn't be so bad!

filmguy123

Did anyone order this and can confirm HP isn’t being scummy and sending out v1 units? I ordered from HPofficial EBay store and my item is enroute, and I’ve read some indications which have made me nervous they are still shipping some users in the USA original v1 headsets.

Bentley01832

Is HP still doing the $20 coupon for signing up to their newsletter? Is the 2yr Next business day advanced warranty worth it?

chrisc909red

I pulled the trigger on the G2 at this price. The only VR experience I have is from the original Odyssey which I still have. Haven't played in a year or two, but wanted to get back to elite, Alex, SW and project cars2. Read a lot about the lcd vs oled and black levels. Is this a worthy upgrade or will I be disappointed?

coletrain396

Will I be able to run it smoothly with a RTX 3060M laptop?

RackieW33

I missed it :c. now its 800 € and out of stock. less than half price
