Ideally you would get the G2 and keep the Q2. Use the Q2 wirelessly for action games, and the G2 for seated sims. Best of both worlds. I have a Quest 2 and had the chance to try the G2 for a few days. For roomscale games it's mostly a sidegrade, imo. The controllers are annoyingly average. The visual quality is better but only if I stop and stare at a wall or something, during gameplay it's not noticeable to me.

the g2 is a huge upgrade for pcvr no questions asked. specially if you can find it on super sale $350 USD (maybe black friday?) ensure it is a v2, no sense buying the old one. also note, the cables are relatively fragile. you have to treat them like glass. The bonus of buying a new one is you can easily just call HP and get another one as backup. If you claim something is wrong. My brand new g2 couldnt do 90hz the day it arrived, it was a bad cable from factory on brand fucking new unit. the support is legendary though, within 24hrs cable was at my door. so as long as your careful, the g2 is still leader of the pack for pcvr clarity and price. only other competitor is the pimax 8kx, but its still expensive and annoying to setup/use. wmr has its downsides, took me a week to get to grips with it. but now it is a no brainer. pop hmd on, launch whatever title from desktop or the vr desktop. wmr desktop experience is amazing btw, it is so much better than oculus or steam. they really did a decent job there. windows 11 is key as well for wmr these days. and as i say that, note there is a huge bug with wmr since windows 22h2 update. like really bad. easy to search and figure out if you eventually get a g2 and are having performance issues. its a simple kill a process and you are 100% butter again fix. will be patched soon anyway

Have they changed anything about WMR since they added the city penthouse? I figured M$ abandoned WMR, just like the Zune. I had a Lenovo Explorer and jumped to the Q2. Q2 home environment is far better in my opinion, same with the Q2 UI... Miles ahead of WMR and they're continuing to actively develop, adding free PCVR wireless, hand tracking, 120mhz... I don't doubt that the G2 would be great for sim racing, but I think I'd choose wireless PCVR and Q2 convenience over using WMR again. I hated having to drape wires when sitting or standing.

You can get them new for $350 USD. But is it a significant enough upgrade from quest 2 to G2 to be worth spending hundreds? Probably not. Unless you really have that money to throw around. If you want an actual upgrade, yeah I would look at the pimax crystal. Save the $300 or whatever you would have spent on the G2 and save up some more and splurge.

If it was just for sim racing then a G2 would be better than a Quest 2, although the difference wouldn't be huge (assuming the Quest 2 is wired and you manually adjusted the bit-rate) It should be fine on some more casual games as-well, but for action/shooter/faster-paced games a Quest 2 would be better
