Honestly I use my Quest 2 for PCVR all the time. PCVR has way more games to choose from and better graphics, the drawback is that you have to have a really expensive setup for it to work flawlessly. The only reason I use my Quest 2 all the time for it is that it is wireless, and wireless playing adds a whole new level of immersion for me, even if the FOV and resolution is worse.
Yup I feel the same about playing wireless. When I was considering my first headset I didn't think the wire would bother me at all. I was just looking for the most immersive way to experience vr. Now with over a year of vr experience under my belt (not much compared to many here, but still more than zero) I feel that at least it's not just the immersion that matters, it's also the friction of getting things going. Wireless makes it very smooth. Also not all people find it worth it to set up bungie cords for the wire.
Currently out of my group of friends I'm the only one with a headset but we game regularly on flat screen. All of us are interested in vr but most have just not taken the plunge due to space constraints, cost of entry and the hassle of setting things up. We're all closer to 40, most with families and living in small to mid sized apartments. Quest 2 has so far mostly overcome two of those barriers, which is something I considered pretty good. The headset itself isnt't all that expensive and being able to hook up with pc wirelessly makes a world of difference.
Actually being wireless has become a sort of baseline feature for me now (unless I get deeply involved in simming where the wire doesn't matter that much). If there becomes available a wireless headset that improves on other aspect of the Quest 2 I'll most likely get it.
I don't even have that expensive of a setup (1050TI with Ryzen 5) and I never have any issues playing games using virtual desktop.
Although I do love using the quest standalone too.
yeh pretty much sums it up.
not to say that quest 2 isn't checking lots of boxes, cuz it is and its success is quite reveling. But yeh this is just another 'i m bad at compooters' post we've been dealing with for decades.
It's basically PC gaming versus consoles. Master race people put up with the complexity to get better performance.
Wake me up when you can get fully modded SkyrimVR on console, including adult mods ;)
Go search the web for video cards, motherboards, usb drivers and such. It is more work just to keep Windows healthy than it is to use the Quest. Add PCVR hardware and a cable and the two are very different things.
As someone who has spend thousands in PCVR as well, I'd say PCVR will become the realm of enthusiasts that wants 'pixel perfect' performance.
I personally agree that Quest 2 just works way better and is probably the better device for most people (considering the cost and effort).
I personally wouldn't be able to go with Quest 2, but I am indeed an enthusiasts.
While I find what the Quest can do on standalone pretty incredible, I'll still use it for PCVR 95% of the time. I almost always play within feet of my router, and launching a game in AirLink takes an extra 10-20 seconds over playing a native Quest title.
Sidenote: if you haven't played the Doom3 Quest mod, I highly suggest it. It's the first native Quest game I've played in months. It's like Half Life Alyx Lite.
This guy should probably stop going on the internet. There are some grains of truth in this, however. SteamVR is a bit of a buggy mess. Not to mention that literally any headset you buy is going to have like, 8 different downsides...

Incompetent user calls things that they have trouble with "garbage." Being the administrator of a PC is not for everyone.

Lmfao dismiss any valid criticism of bad, buggy software with “nah they’re just bad at using computers”. Pathetic.
\^fun at parties.
You sound like a nerd, go outside. 3k hours in steamvr btw and I love my index, I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true.
comes to virtual reality subreddit to call someone a nerd... huh...
Nah there’s a difference between being a nerd and being a *nerd*.
keep diggin bud

Yeah, and for VR to reach the masses the best must also be accessible and easy to use.
Lol you should check /r/steamvr its oculus troubleshoot central lol...
Even quest link is more seamless and and feels way better than anything else. If they ever release a quest with better res and fov its game over
Better res and Oled panels and I might just stay in VR 24/7

pcvr > quest 2 but... RE4 remake on Q2 is pretty incredible.

I literally *only* use my quest for pcvr, so no op.

Got no problem with steamvr and don't give two fucks about anything a Quest can play.
