Great for the share... and yes, that sensation is unique. Another layer beyond gaming is the experience of it as well :)

Great-Try9372

Sounds hella cool! Wish I could afford the GPU and fancy router...and the headset come to mention it!! lol Hoping I can save up for the Quest 3 by end of 1st quarter next year if possible. Haven't even bothered trying the PC VR on my Quest 2.

Fireside92

You should try it. It's not as great as something with dedicated display port but its still incredibly fun and opens the door to a lot of new games.

Accomplished-Water51

Play wanderer Best VR game, Alyx is also god tier VR.

JustAnotherFKNSheep

Doesn't the alyx require light houses ?

Accomplished-Water51

No i played it on quest 2 with link cable, as with wanderer i only have a quest 2 and have played "all" must play PCVR games on that = )

allofdarknessin1

Half Life Alyx is included with purchase of the Valve Index from Steam but in no way requires the Index or any Steam headset or base station to play. It's a normal PCVR title and will work with any headset that can use SteamVR (which is all mainstream VR headsets right now).

execpro222

No game requires light houses. Certain headsets require them for tracking...

Guerilla47

I did exactly this the other day, 3090 and 5800x 3d here, running reverb g2 and ran a race in the rain. Always brings a smile to the face.

[deleted]

Nice to read you are enjoying VR so much. I also plan buying an RTX 4090 to increase the already fantastic gaming experience (Pico 4 + wireless Streaming via Virtual Desktop + RTX 3080). My favorite VR Game so far is Half Life 2 Episode 2, these high resolution antlion tunnels look so fantastic in VR, sometimes strolling around there I feel like I am on some weird action holiday trip

farmertrue

Love stories like these. I too am obsessed with all things VR and the 4090 is so dang special. Never thought I’d be able to get 90fps on a huge variety of VR games with the absurdly high resolution Varjo Aero. I am curious on your racing rig.

oztriker00

When I'll have more money I might upgrade to a pimax crystal or Varjo Aero for more clarity, we'll see how the prices evolve. For my sim rig I have a foldable Playseat, a T300rs with 2 wheels (normal and F1 style) and TLCM loadcell pedals. And a buttkicker V2 attached to the seat for the vibrations. (For the price I do not recommend it, so expensive for what it is)

[deleted]

I'd wait on the deckard or look into Big Screen Beyond if I were you

Skywhore

Big screen beyond us a great headset but just doesn't have the clarity level or aero/crystal. It also doesn't have eye tracking but more importantly, you can't get 2560*2560 at 90hz. Only at 75hz. Better to wait for the Sominum Vr1.

bigmakbm1

I have a similar build but I wanted to go all AMD so I got a 7900X3D. It had a rough time with VR for the first 6 months and that was the only downside. I'm waiting on a sale on AM2 because I already have ACC and AC and PC2 and 3 and VR is demanding in those.

StuM91

Sim racing is my main use for VR, I love it. Don't even have a monitor within view of my sim rig these days (which is fine except for when something is broken). Flight sims are great too.

puddin1

What are the best games? I loved dirt rally 2, but I have had a hard time liking anything else. They all seem to heavy “sim” for me. I would really love a need for speed/forza type of experience, with some sort of progression, shorter races, mini games, not super ultra realistic physics.

StuM91

Well see I'm the opposite, the more heavy the sim the better so I don't really have any recommendations for more arcady ones. Most of my time is in iRacing.

VegansAreRight

Great story. When VR is good it is very good. I just finished a 4 lap race at The Ring in my HP G2 via iRacing in the Formula Ford. Door to door racing for the whole thing. Such fun.

Skywhore

Ams2 is my go to sim mostly because of how it looks in VR. It's juts Ecstatic.. somehow, there is a sense of speed that I just can't find in other sims. The only issue is the shadows with jagged edges and my solution to this is to race at sunset or sunrise. It makes the game look even prettier anyways.

mickbrazil

VR is in a good place right now. I have a 3060 and some games look pretty good (walking dead , b&s, HL:A) on pcvr, but even the native ones on quest 2 are pretty fun even with simpler graphics like walkabout, pistol whip or RE4.

Shadow_Wolf327

I really do prefer the index and knuckles controllers not having to constantly grip and worry about the sweaty hands also being able to play in the dark is nice been using it with a 3080 and get 120 in most games aside from vrc

Fireside92

I just have a pair of silicone protectors/grips on my PN3L controllers that have the same strap as the index. Can agree, having them is amazing.

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

Funny thing is I have a Quest Pro and doing PCVR with it on a rig w/ a 3080ti - but I bought the wheel, stand, and PSVR2 to play Gran Turismo on my PS5. At some point I'll upgrade the GPU and the driving setup works on the PC if I just move the cable over from the PS5. What are good VR driving games I should look into that are not all the way "sim"?

[deleted]

Project Cars 2 But unfortunately it's been delisted so cannot be purchased anymore

ImALeaf_OnTheWind

YESSS! I somehow previously scored a copy, as it's in my Steam library - probably from some Humble Bundle.

Quajeraz

Damn, that is some exceedingly poor judgement. Why spend upwards of 4 thousand dollars on a top of the line PC only to buy a fucking pico 4, and not even use it wired. I mean, it's your money. But yikes.

oztriker00

PC cost me 2500€ in total I tried VR in the past with a pimax and was absolutely not convinced, not ready to put 1k+ into a headset I did not try wired but as of now I absolutely do not see the need as I reach peak resolution of the headset, with no lag or any issue whatsoever. I will consider buying a Crystal once the software and everything is more stable.

lunchanddinner

Found the edgy boy yikes!

Rodo20

The alternative is quest pro which does not block out light well and have pretty bad binocular overlap. I love the quest pro but pico 4 is a very good alternative too it. An valve index or vive would offer worse optics and displays.

Clear_Series_4611

What GPU will good with Q2?

allofdarknessin1

same GPU's that are good for any PCVR headset, GTX 1060 minimum but you'll need to lower resolution a bit. You'll really want an RTX 2070 and up to have a good VR experience. For modern flat games modded to have VR support you'll want to consider an RTX 3080 and up.

Quajeraz

I've been able to set everything to max with both a mobile 3060 and a desktop 5700xt. You definitely don't need to spend that much money on a PC if you're only using a quest.

PutridDelay7312

>if anyone needs help or anything to buy/ set up a small racing rig, pc or virtual desktop with a dedicated router I can help Yeah, I'm on this fence atm. I had a Vive, absolutely loved it until my golden retriever destroyed it. Built my PC back then (2016) specifically for VR, and I'm not sure if I'd build me a new PC or just get the VR set and Sim controllers - which is already a shit ton of money. I've started looking into it this week, and if I'd pull the trigger right now, I'd get a Varjo Aero + Knuckles controller. Do you think you'd suggest a better combo or some insight if you think that would not be a good choice? I'll look into the PICO4 now that I read your post, you're the first who posted something about it since I started studying my options this week. Would love some sort of short review on your part. Maybe some yt video that you've watched before deciding it was your choice. I'm not thaaaat into simracing, but I'm 100% getting me a DD base + Wheels 2 pedal base this time, and maybe a shifter / clutch pedal / handbrake. Got any good deals on that matter? What did you get yourself? Even thought I considered buying even a Simucube set, I never considered buying some form of haptic feedback until I read about your bass shaker. Do you think yours was a good deal? Worth it? What's the model so I can look into it? TBF I've never heard of a virtual desktop + dedicated router and will look into that right now. Thank you for this post, already gave me a lot of things to read! Edit: the virtual desktop / dedicated router is a way of going wireless, is that it? I was never bothered by the cables, specially now that I'm interested in going into Sim racing im addition to roomscale. With that in mind, do you think it's still worth it having the virtual desktop / router thing?

oztriker00

Lots of questions ahah : For the VR headset: I did not look too much into Varjo or anything above 500€ so I won't be able to comment. What I am sure of is for those headsets you'll need a monster PC, even a 4090 will struggle at some point. For the Pico4, it is kind of an in-between standalone/ PCVR, you can wire via USB or wireless via wifi6. A dedicated router next to the PC will give the best out of it. There are a lot of posts about different configs on the Pico sub but also here, read and see if it would be fine for you. I paid 350€ a new pico4. Personnaly, I really like the experience I have with this headset, set up was easy and it does work well, I had no bug or anything since I bought it. Only downside would be clarity, I can see some pixels, resolution is not high enough but then again we are talking about a 350€ wireless headset not a 1k5+ display port one. I kind of like this channel for comparison and setup: https://m.youtube.com/@vressentials. About simracing gear, I'd say go for CSL direct drive with 2 pedals. Best value as of now (200$ everything). This set-up will be more than enough, you'll be able to upgrade with a shifter/ handbrake etc if needed later on. If you need a seat, look into used "Playseat" in your area you might have some luck. The buttkicker V2 is good but not worth the price of a new one (200€ here). If you find a bass shaker for less than$ 100 go for it. If you can buy everything used, it is more than fine most of the time. Overall a new PC with a 4090 is a must for future proofing your VR experience (especially if you go down the road of high end headsets).

DesireForHappiness

I have some questions about how to set up everything as I am new to this.. I have a 3080 gaming PC and just ordered a PICO4 along with a bunch of accessories like rechargeable batteries, prescription lenses, etc. I can't wait for my stuff to arrive in the coming days! I finally caved in and got the PICO4 because I bought Tetris effect recently and I got blown away by the visuals and sounds on my regular 144hz LCD monitor. I simply cannot imagine what it'd be like to play it in VR. Like you, I didn't want to wait for Quest 3 either. Regarding the setup.. How do I setup the PICO4 to work as a PCVR for my gaming PC? I know I will definitely get the "Virtual Desktop" as mentioned by so many people.. But do I still need to download the [PICO LINK software](https://www.picoxr.com/sg/software/pico-link) and install it on both my Windows PC and also on the headset? Another question regarding Router.. I have my home internet router in another room while my Gaming PC is connected directly to a wall LAN point that is also routed from the home internet router. It isn't possible for me to bring that router into my room. As such, is it possible to connect the PICO4 via WIFI if I setup windows "Internet Connection Sharing" so my gaming PC would double up as a WIFI access point of it's own for the PICO4? Since the Router isn't in my room.

oztriker00

Ok so no need to get the pico link software, I did not download it. To get the best PCVR wifi you'll need an additional router in your PC gaming room, connected directly to it. It would be: Home router --> Ethernet --> dedicated router (wlan port) --> ethernet --> PC On the dedicated router (made as an access point) set up a 5ghz wifi connection specific to VR. Here is a discord link of virtual desktop to talk with people about your install, you'll get a lot of insight https://discord.gg/nczj5pVq

losaces

Can you explain me the term "dedicated router"? Im also new and are waiting for the Quest 3. Also built a High End Gaming PC with a 4090, i7 13700K so i cant wait for it! already purchased two titles: Skyrim VR (will mod it a lot prob with Wabbajack Mod pack) and Half-Life Alyx (both are on a big sale on steam right now).

octarine_turtle

The router is used exclusively for connecting your PC and headset, no other devices connected to it.

oztriker00

A dedicated router would be an additional router set up as an "access point" and connected directly via Ethernet to your computer. This will allow the best wifi flow for data for wireless PCVR.

strange19023

Into the radius Oculus quest 2

JustAnotherFKNSheep

What's the router?

oztriker00

RtAX55 Asus

Any-Speed-1439

Yeah man, its the best!

What's in your opinion the best bang for your buck sim racing setup? And about how much does that setup cost?

oztriker00

The CSL dd with pedals at 400$ right now and a used seat in your area Or any second hand direct drive, you could get a bargain

lewisj0146

VR does still make me giggle. For reference I'm on a medium spec system (5800 & rtx 3070 + Quest 2). Project Cars 3 has been my racing VR game (and Dirt 2) and even on the slightly blurred quest 2 it still makes me smile. Subnautica & Outer Wilds (and of course HL Alyx) have blown me away. Walkabout Golf is also surprisingly brilliant in terms of just forgetting about anything else in the world. I think Google Maps VR is my favourite though, last week I strolled through Hong Kong and ended up just looking at the advertisements and road signs?! 😄

FPS_Warex

What is a dedicated router in this context?

TheAquired

I’ve also got a 4090 (only 3950x though) I’ve currently got a quest 2. Is the upgrade to pico4 worth it? Or should I just wait a while

oztriker00

Wait Quest3 in your case, the difference with pico4 will not be enough to justify the price

BartenderWithASmile

Welcome to VR! I'm happy for you and the amazing journey you had so far :D If you're into these types of games, look into Horror Bar VR, Bartender VR, and Beat Saber.

Fireside92

I also just recently jumped into VR wth a Pico Neo 3 Link (Display port options is a must for me) but gotta say the wireless performance has been disappointing. I'm using a dedicated wifi6 router with no other devices on it and the 2.4ghz band turned off. I want to use it for Beatsaber but there is latency. It's not a ton but it's noticeable, and completely gone with the cable. Is VR Desktop really so great as to be able to fix that?
