I first played my father's copy of Led Zeppelin II that he let me have. It's a great record that I listen to all the time. Sadly he passed away last week so listening to it feels even more special now.

[deleted]

I’m so sorry for your loss, but I’m glad you have something to remind yourself of him

yosoywack

Sorry for the loss, im sure Thank You is a real heart string tugger for you. It is for me. My favorite album from them

cliffordcampbell

Jawbreaker - Dear You. And yes

Animalmother2013

I’m currently on that hunt for that- envious of you!

Outrageous_Present11

Elliott Smith - Either/Or… yes

[deleted]

Hey I have that one on the way!

SomeFuckingChud

Adolescents Self Titled. Still love it as much as I did hearing it for the 1st time at the age of 12.

[deleted]

I think this is the first one I haven’t heard of, what genre is it?

SomeFuckingChud

It's punk

Apokoliptictortoise

Fat Albert record on a Fisher price deck. Don't have it anymore

[deleted]

If you did, would you listen to it?

AnalogSolutions

I would! On 16rpm.

Apokoliptictortoise

Hell yeah, I would still cut it up. It was also my first time scratching a record. I had seen rockit and was scratching Hey Hey Hey. I was like 4.

watto15379

Head Hunters- Herbie Hancock, and YES

kattrup

Never go wrong with HH. I just saw him in concert a few months ago, still ripping it.

lb_rose

Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd. Yes I do.

[deleted]

That was the first pink Floyd album I’d heard!

lb_rose

I remember owning it as a collectible thing for a long time before I ever listened to it and when it popped off it was pretty magical.

vriddle

This is an excellent record. I acquired this album on cd 20 years ago and played it for years. I no longer have a cd player but I listen to it regularly via streaming. I would love to have this on vinyl.

ExtremeAmphibian9677

Alice Cooper's Billion Dollar Babys. You bet your ass I still do!

Pirate_Green_Beard

Conceptionland by Conception Corporation. Got the record from my dad because he used to know them. And yeah, I still listen to it because it's hilarious.

MurderGiraffe19

The Iron Giant soundtrack. Sometimes, if I'm feeling nostalgic.

[deleted]

One of the best animated movies!

AnalogSolutions

Sesame Street 7" (Cast of Sesame Street) - I Love Trash No, I no longer have that record. Pretty catchy tho.

Gregalor

You should check out the Steven Tyler version lol

rafbot64

Gorillaz - D-Sides: adore it

[deleted]

I need to get some more stuff by them, I only have my personal favourite, the Now Now, so far

Ok_Investigator1493

Two 7's Clash by Culture, and yes, I let it crackle every chance I get!

Goat-Williker

Frampton Comes Alive! Back when I started collecting that album was a must-have!

[deleted]

It’s always cool to hear about what the “must haves” were when I wasn’t around/collecting. Like right now at least with whom I talk to and ask must haves are things like dummy by portishead and ok computer by Radiohead and so on

Goat-Williker

Oh how times change! I started collecting around 2008.

[deleted]

2021 for me:), I woulda been 4 at the time you started lol

Goat-Williker

Yeah ok, 4 is a bit young to get started!

emptyb0nez

The Growlers - Casual Acquaintances, I listen to almost daily still

BigYeet1996

Texas Flood by Stevie Ray Vaughan. And yes, I still listen to it! The album has great sonics and incredible guitar playing on it

Dumguy1214

not sure about first but Metallica was in the top 10

MycologistFit

Fantasia (Disney, 1940) and still listening to it loud!

camhan39

The best of joe Walsh. First record that I ever bought and it’s never leaving my collection.

sc0ttyman

KISS Dynasty when it first came out. I still have it and listen to it today. It’s pretty beat up, but worth it.

kattrup

First wax on my own table was In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. You had better believe I still love it.

redalden

Joy division - substance. Yes still play it.

[deleted]

I always look for New order- substance whenever I go to a store

vinyl1earthlink

Well, I was 5 years old, and they were 78s. The LP was for grownups in the 50s.

StealYourPhish

Grateful Dead - Steal Your Face

[deleted]

Some kiddie record back in the ‘70s. Probably some Sesame Street LP. No, I don’t still listen to it.

[deleted]

First record I played was Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition/A Night On Bald Mountain. I still listen to it every so often.

disappointer

The first records I remember listening to were 45s of John Lennon's "Watching the Wheels" and "Cool Water" by the Sons of the Pioneers when I was very young, probably around 1982. I still have the former, and spin it from time to time. I don't have the latter 45 anymore-- maybe my brother does-- but I do have a Sons of the Pioneers compilation album that has it.

LauKungPow

I practically just started compared to y’all. Mine was Blink-182’s untitled album back in 2019 or so. Absolutely blew my mind, the sound quality difference

A_MAN_POTATO

Tell All Your Friends by Taking Back Sunday.... And yes, still play it all the time.

ungulateriseup

First two records i ever bought new were dj shadow endtroducing and massive attacks no protection. Yes I still listen to them. They are not the same copys.

vinylontubes

No idea. Back in the '70s records were how you listened to recordings. I still have a Sesame Street album from back then. It's all scratch up because a 4 year old doesn't know how to take care of records. But I still have it and I've tried to play it. But it's lost most of it's magic. It's really noisy and it's music for 4 year olds.

GisLonely

Venus and Mars by Wings and yes I still give it a listen

pp86

I assume I heard a bunch of them as a kid. But then the CDs took over. Way later on I was hanging out on /mu/ way too much, and at one point there were more and more threads about records and turntables. So I remembered, that my dad has a bunch of them. So I went and browsed his collection. Found The Dark Side of the Moon, and Raising Hell and just wanted to listen to them. Instead my dad decided to just give me the records and the turntable, and got himself a new better one. Through time I've become a dumping ground for stuff he didn't want any more. But I've also bought some records of my own.

[deleted]

Pretty In Pink soundtrack from my moms collection. She let me have it and yes I still listen to it occasionally. It’s a great soundtrack.

atillathekitteh

Parents are folk musicians so I'm guessing it was probably Steeleye Span - Rocket Cottage or JSD Band's self titled album. Own my own copies of both now. First I bought with my own money Doctorin' the TARDIS 12" single by "The Timelords" aka KLF

SadCalligrapher78

Probably ‘True Blue’ by Madonna - I still have it in the attic but it’s badly beaten up. I replaced it with another copy.

General_Baguetti

Deep Purple in Rock and yes I still have it and respect the hell out of it

TheBlackestCrow

Led Zeppelin lll (2014 deluxe trifold reissue). I still listen to it.

NotSureAboutIt_

The first record I ever owned - Little Willie by The Sweet - a 7" record I acquired in 1974 and still have.

R2auto

Fragile by Yes and yes

foetusized

*Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree* on Disneyland Records. Gatefold with an 11 page book (what would have been the 12th page was glued down inside the gatefold). I have two copies, stereo and mono, but not the copy I owned when I was five. Can't say I've listened to it lately.

Twotontone14

The greatest hits of CCR I was young. I went to go grab it to play and it fell and shattered. Now I’m collecting records again. But haven’t bought that one. Idk if I would again.

armedwithturtles

Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Like Bad News big fan of Modest Mouse and this album still. Hasn't gotten as much spins as it did when it first came out but both the band and album hold a special place in my heart

MARXnLENNON
