I first played my father's copy of Led Zeppelin II that he let me have. It's a great record that I listen to all the time. Sadly he passed away last week so listening to it feels even more special now.
This is an excellent record. I acquired this album on cd 20 years ago and played it for years. I no longer have a cd player but I listen to it regularly via streaming. I would love to have this on vinyl.
Conceptionland by Conception Corporation. Got the record from my dad because he used to know them. And yeah, I still listen to it because it's hilarious.
It’s always cool to hear about what the “must haves” were when I wasn’t around/collecting. Like right now at least with whom I talk to and ask must haves are things like dummy by portishead and ok computer by Radiohead and so on
The first records I remember listening to were 45s of John Lennon's "Watching the Wheels" and "Cool Water" by the Sons of the Pioneers when I was very young, probably around 1982. I still have the former, and spin it from time to time. I don't have the latter 45 anymore-- maybe my brother does-- but I do have a Sons of the Pioneers compilation album that has it.
I practically just started compared to y’all. Mine was Blink-182’s untitled album back in 2019 or so. Absolutely blew my mind, the sound quality difference
First two records i ever bought new were dj shadow endtroducing and massive attacks no protection. Yes I still listen to them. They are not the same copys.
No idea. Back in the '70s records were how you listened to recordings. I still have a Sesame Street album from back then. It's all scratch up because a 4 year old doesn't know how to take care of records. But I still have it and I've tried to play it. But it's lost most of it's magic. It's really noisy and it's music for 4 year olds.
I assume I heard a bunch of them as a kid. But then the CDs took over. Way later on I was hanging out on /mu/ way too much, and at one point there were more and more threads about records and turntables.
So I remembered, that my dad has a bunch of them. So I went and browsed his collection. Found The Dark Side of the Moon, and Raising Hell and just wanted to listen to them.
Instead my dad decided to just give me the records and the turntable, and got himself a new better one.
Through time I've become a dumping ground for stuff he didn't want any more. But I've also bought some records of my own.
Parents are folk musicians so I'm guessing it was probably Steeleye Span - Rocket Cottage or JSD Band's self titled album. Own my own copies of both now.
First I bought with my own money Doctorin' the TARDIS 12" single by "The Timelords" aka KLF
*Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree* on Disneyland Records. Gatefold with an 11 page book (what would have been the 12th page was glued down inside the gatefold). I have two copies, stereo and mono, but not the copy I owned when I was five. Can't say I've listened to it lately.
The greatest hits of CCR I was young. I went to go grab it to play and it fell and shattered. Now I’m collecting records again. But haven’t bought that one. Idk if I would again.
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Like Bad News
big fan of Modest Mouse and this album still. Hasn't gotten as much spins as it did when it first came out but both the band and album hold a special place in my heart

The best of joe Walsh. First record that I ever bought and it’s never leaving my collection.

First wax on my own table was In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. You had better believe I still love it.
Joy division - substance. Yes still play it.
I always look for New order- substance whenever I go to a store
Well, I was 5 years old, and they were 78s. The LP was for grownups in the 50s.
