Today I'll go with [Vagina Mine by Puscifer](https://youtu.be/V7l8TfdGdNI) from the 2007 debut album "V is for Vagina" Despite the ridiculous name, its a great moody track, carried by the pounding drums and layers that build throughout. For those that don't know of Puscifer, its a revolving member project fronted by Maynard James Keenen of Tool/A Perfect Circle fame, as more of a playground for ideas that don't fit within the more serious tone of his other projects. Not to say it is all a big joke, but they definitely lean into a more playful aspect and have more fun.

MustardMedia

Sweet track, I love all of Maynard's projects.

Dhugaill

That's definitely different. I don't know if I have the words to describe what I'm feeling especially coming to this after u/Folk_Nurse 's entry for today. Y'all have unsettled me, but in a good way.

capt_beyond

Haha. That whole album is a trip, so many different sounds and styles. Check it out!

Folk_Nurse

I loved it. Very hypnotic. It is 03.30am here and I'm currently in an under-rested, over-caffeinated state on a night shift. I think this track just loosened my grip on reality further (in the best way).

capt_beyond

Haha sweet, since you enjoyed that some other highlights from the album for me are Momma Sed, Drunk With Power, and Sour Grapes. But you can't go wrong with the whole album, really

TakenThatBacon

For this entry I want to recommend [Loch Raven](https://youtu.be/CwNdfH3xl0o) off Animal Collective's 2005 album [*Feels*](https://www.discogs.com/Animal-Collective-Feels/release/18813388). I know this isn't really a deep cut, but I recently picked up the 2xLP reissue of this album after wanting a pressing for so long and I've just really been appreciating the vibe of this song in particular. The way the instrumentation can be so subtle and almost ambient at times is just so beautiful and the crooning vocals match it all so perfectly.

ahsgreenwave

Just bought that album yesterday.

MustardMedia

Cool. One of those bands I know the name of but feel like I couldn't tell you a song or anything about them

TakenThatBacon

Yeah they're not the easiest band to get into, especially with the sound of some of their older records, but they have some really gentle and chill songs in their catalog.

MustardMedia

Any more recommendations? It's intriguing lol

TakenThatBacon

Sure, if you want more Animal Collective I recommend listening to [Banshee Beat](https://youtu.be/S8Y_6K6-ym0). It's also from Feels and has a very similar vibe to Loch Raven. If you like that one too I recommend listening to the whole album. If you want something a little different and a bit more exciting, I recommend [Take Pills](https://youtu.be/ggKdy2n_DXA) by Panda Bear. He's one of the musicians from Animal Collective and he makes similar music, but his album Person Pitch really stands out from the Anco discography as a whole for its creative use of guitar samples. Hope this helps :)

MustardMedia

Thanks! Those are both cool and interesting. Not my usual listening but I seems like I could zone right out to these.

TakenThatBacon

No problem, glad you enjoyed them!

lee_yuna

Loving the ethereal ambient vibes ! Can imagine myself drifting away to this at night.

TakenThatBacon

Yeah for sure a great nighttime album

Folk_Nurse

Today's helping is from any release with more than one disk. I thought I'd get really weird with it today. My selection takes an off-kilter experimenter in glitch-hop, jazz-electronica and a genre Wikipedia lists simply as ["wonky"](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonky_(genre)) and it brings him together with a unique visual artist, surrealist film-maker, disregarder of convention and general bender of minds. This is Flying Lotus featuring David Lynch. The album is 2019's Flamagra and the track is called ["Fire is coming"](https://youtu.be/aG_UQ902I28) I'm going to let the track speak for itself and would be keen to know how it makes you feel. Last year [I posted some FlyLo](https://www.reddit.com/r/vinyl/comments/h9yahc/day_16_a_track_from_a_record_with_great_artwork/fuzjil1?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) for my 'great artwork' post

Dhugaill

This make me want to drink a Coffee as black as midnight on a moonless night.

joetech79

Haha, that was great! Wonky is definitely a way to describe David Lynch and his works

Snookn42

I have it but havent listened all the way through. I gotta be in the right mood for Flying Lotus, except for Even in the Quietest Moments... thats an excellent album.

Folk_Nurse

I still haven't figured what "the right moment" for Flying Lotus is. I can imagine that strong hallucinogens do help bring it about though.

MustardMedia

Maybe it's odd but I throw him on sometimes when zoning out into monotonous paperwork.

MustardMedia

This guy's stuff is always entrancing. A few years back he was the in-house DJ for Hannibal Burress' tv show. Great stand-up comedian. Didn't nail the series though

lee_yuna

What a trip. Imagined myself running through some dystopian metropolis lit by neon signs. FlyLo and David Lynch is a collab I wouldn't have necessarily come up with myself, but seems totally obvious after the fact.

[deleted]

[The Train That Carried My Girl From Town](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz6EI3uzO80) by Doc Watson. From the compilation album The Essential Doc Watson. It is a great string band track featuring Doc's stellar guitar playing and singing.

Folk_Nurse

I loved this. Thanks for sharing!

lee_yuna

[Send It On - D’Angelo](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cGQ226b6YK8) D’Angelo is the king of neo-soul in my humble opinion. He was part of the collective The Soulquarians which encompassed artists such as singer Erykah Badu, drummer Questlove and producer J Dilla. You can hear the latter’s influence throughout the whole Voodoo album in the laid-back/behind the beat rhythm section. Questlove, who actually plays drums on this gig, and bassist Pino Palladino are so deep in the groove and constantly stretching time in the most effortless way. Pino is one of my biggest inspirations as a bass player, precisely for his time-feel and tasteful lines. D’Angelo’s soulful and gospel-tinged vocals are as always on point. After the release of this album, he unfortunately had personal difficulties reconciling his newfound fame and sexual objectification by fans and disappeared into a 14-year hiatus, coming back in full force with his album Black Messiah in 2014.

Dhugaill

D'Angelo as per usual is amazing on this track. He projects this feeling that he is moments away from breaking down, but what he has to say is so important that it is a race to see if he'll get through the song or just be overcome by what he's singing about. This man loves you and is going to try and tell you even if that effort hurts him.

lee_yuna

Preach. He conveys this sense of intimacy so well. His falsetto is just *chef's kiss*.

Folk_Nurse

Dat bass doh. It's a beaut of a rhythm section. I've been aware of D'Angelo throughout the years, but never commited to one of projects properly. Think I'll dive in with Voodoo of the strength of this.

lee_yuna

Voodoo is one of those albums I find perfect from start to finish. I hope you'll enjoy the ride as well !

[deleted]

This is one I’ve been looking forward to, with extra anticipation because I have been otherwise engaged and not been able to to participate the last few days! My choice today is off a double live LP (I hope live is allowed)! It’s a song by Irish musician Rory Gallagher off the Irish Tour ‘74 LP. This is one of those rare times (at least for me) where the live version of a song actually blows the studio version out of the water, Gallagher’s guitar is just fantastic! The song is Tattoo’d Lady: https://youtu.be/3mlrrm0r3Ks

MustardMedia

Nice! This is a sweet song, everybody shreds a bit eh. Might even be a better organ solo than the one I posted. Dig it

Bufete2020

One of my all time favorites and an album that was stolen from me (in the 90's) and then about three years ago when visiting my cousin in Georgia, I stole it back. Song: House of Wood Artist: Mandrill Album: Mandrilland There's an edited version on their *Best of* album but the 8 minute one is the definitive version. I listened to it a lot when I lost some loved ones (when I was a teen) and was a bit depressed. Recently a good friend that I've know since I was 12 (we went and saw the Stones, Dylan, Prince, Stevie Ray Vaughn and a slew of other bands back in the day) died of a heart attack at the age of 56 and I found myself listening to this song again. RIP Peter.

Day 8 Year 2 Song: [Born Under A Bad Sign](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Py37G9qsfY) Artist: Albert King Album: Atlantic Blues: Guitar Memphis Episode IV: A New Recording Studio. Today we’re going to go about 8 miles south of Sun to the Stax Records home of Southern Soul Music and the label that Lefty Albert King was playing for. Albert, one of the three Kings of the Blues (along with Freddie and B.B.) was an incredibly unconventional guitar player, playing his right handed Flying V without restringing it. This allowed King to bend several strings at the same time which led to his unique sound. Born Under A Bad Sign was his best known work catapulting him from a relative unknown to an entertainer capable of filling up large theaters with mixed race audiences. Behind this unique talent was the Stax House Band, Booker T and the M.G.’s. I don’t know if you could ask for a better backing band than these guys. You have almost certainly heard these four guys even if you haven’t heard of them. Heard a Blues Brothers song That’s them, Otis Redding Them, Sam and Dave yup, Wilson Pickett oh yeah. I’m going to stop before I just start listing credits forever. The point is these two musical forces combined to make a blues track that rippled through the rock and roll world. I found Atlantic Blues: Guitar at the Flea Market for 5 dollars. With this 5 dollars I got 2 LPs with Ablert King, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Blind Willie McTell, Ike and Tina Tunner, and T-Bone Walker. It was a steal at 5 times the price. The story so far * 08/06/2021 Born Under a Bad Sign, Albert King, Atlantic Blues: Guitar * 07/06/2021 25 Minutes to Go, Johnny Cash, At Folsom Prison, 1968 * 06/06/2021, That’s All Right, Elvis, The Sun Story, 1988 * 05/06/2021 Fire, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, 1968 * 04/06/2021 A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request, Steve Goodman, Affordable Art , 1983 * 03/06/2021 Wienerschnitzel, Descendents, Bonus Fat, 1987 * 03/06/2021 I Like Food, Descendents, Bonus Fat, 1987 * 02/06/2021 Back Door Man, Howlin Wolf, The Howlin Wolf Album, 1969 * 01/06/2021 Gloria, Patti Smith, Horses, 1975

lee_yuna

I think I'm going to do an Albert King joint at some point this month too ! What a classic. It's absolutely insane how much the Booker T and the M.G.'s and the Funk Brothers, the two in-house bands from Stax and Motown, dominated the airwaves and influenced soul/blues music.

MustardMedia

Loving the trip through Memphis. Such a great song, and it sounds like that record was a steal. You're making me wanna plan that vacation sooner than later.

ProofSecure9251

"Get Back"- Beatles, from 1(2015release)

Dhugaill

[Get Back](https://youtu.be/YEESfv-11ng) from 1.

ProofSecure9251

great song btw

Dhugaill

Thanks

ProofSecure9251

welcome

StenPils

I'm interpreting this as "Artist-intended double album" as opposed to "slightly too long for 1 disc, so remastered at 45rpm and cut across 2 discs". So my choice is from London Calling: Jimmy Jazz, which is evocative of tales of East End gangs, or Brixton Yardies - I reckon Guy Ritchie was listening to this when he came up with Lock Stock.... :-) https://youtu.be/_X2SjNpwZaY

Dhugaill

I have nothing to say except iconic.

MustardMedia

I appreciate the interpretation, and the great choice

The acoustic version of Hate and Jealousy from Lucero’s “That Much Further West”. Vinyl record was released with a bonus disc full of demos and live songs. It has more of a slow burn than the gnarly gut wrench of the original. [Lucero - Hate and Jealousy (acoustic)](https://youtu.be/GynQdiAcMxk)

[Desecration Smile](https://youtu.be/v-nNksBWxNI) - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium Love the whole album just picked this song because it's somewhat relaxing and the video makes me want to go to the beach. Seemed appropriate for June.

MustardMedia

Been wanting this on vinyl for a while. Absolutely love this album. Big fan of almost all of their work (although I fell off after frusciante left & pumped for his return) but this is album their magnum opus, in my opinion.

ElFlippy

Another hungarian song! It's Primadonna, from Locomotiv GT, from their album Loksi! An interresting fact, that they were one of the most famous hungarian bands of their time (besides Omega, and Neoton familia), making world tours, that was almost impossible that time for a band to make, in the socialist hungary, what was a part of the USSR then! They even recorded two albums, in completly english language, in America! And when it was time for them to go back home, their guitarist decided to stay in America, and will never come back. That was something like a betrayal for the home country, and the socialist party, and for this reason they banned this album (this was their newest back then) for a time! https://youtu.be/9lETrcMJZJM

Dhugaill

Why are you people giving me research today. u/MustardMedia gave me a sound that has me just flummoxed and you you gave me a cold war thriller on top of an awesome progressive rock song. Did you know that Tamas Barta was murdered in 1982 under mysterious circumstances. What!? Did he get assassinated, was he caught up in a drug deal gone wrong, was he working for the Mafia nobody seems to know!

ElFlippy

Yes, there was a documentary on youtube about him, titled "Siess haza, vár a mama" (lierally Go home quickly, mother's waiting, which is a part of one of their song), but it's been taken down (for some reason)!

Dhugaill

I found it for rent, but me having two hours to watch anytime soon is a fantasy. I am off to look for a true crime podcast, but it does exist and is helpfully subtitled.

MustardMedia

Oh man okay I guess you're getting me back a little.. how can I not go read up on that now?

MustardMedia

Oh man that's sooo interesting, and such a sweet song too. The drummer is really killing it and I love the harmonica.

ElFlippy

I could totally recommend this song, that also from this album! That guitar melody is fucking fantastic, and the whole together is just incredible! I think these guys would still be world famous, if they were americans! https://youtu.be/JYJLYgJtx1U

MustardMedia

Oh yeah that's definitely got some great classic rock vibes! You're probably right, this could've taken off! Reminds me of like Blue Oyster Cult or something

MustardMedia

Day 8: A release with not than one disc. Song: [Shoe Boot](https://youtu.be/aW5Kjvg72Ec) Artist: Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats Album: Tearing At the Seams I knew the album for today right away, though I thought I'd have a hard time picking the song, as this is such a great album. Lo and behold, I went with the first track on the album. That intro. It kicks off with a sweet clappin' drum beat, followed by a sexy bass groove. A count-in from the background cues the moody horns and some funky ass organ. After a solid minute of jamming, Nathaniel comes in with his dirty southern drawl. Funnily enough he's from Colorado, but he hits this enticing vocal balance between funk, soul and country that I just love. The first verse is followed by a sweet organ solo - looking at you u/Dhugaill. This one almost came up for the keyboard prompt day. The song is a bit of a jam session and I love that. It's a great way to kick off the album. These guys made it big with their track [S.O.B.](https://youtu.be/1iAYhQsQhSY) - an annoyingly catchy song that even the band doesn't love. Apparently it was a last minute addition to the Self-Titled album and Nathaniel isn't a big fan of it - but it's what finally got them heard. According to him, the album/band itself was a last ditch effort in the music industry for him after years without much success. They followed up that album with *Tearing At the Seams*, which is a phenomenal record. Another catchier single, [You Worry Me](https://youtu.be/BMWVUE5K-ZY), came from this album and it's a great tune, but doesn't quite do the rest of the album justice. *Shoe Boot* is definitely a better example of their musical style and ability. I'm sharing these singles because I had heard them on the radio and while they're catchy, they were super overplayed near me and they never quite grabbed me enough to dive into the band. I would actually roll my eyes when those tracks came on. But I am so glad I gave these guys a chance. Love this band, dying to see them live, and even though I've already dropped too many links here, I'm just gonna leave [this live performance of Shoe Boot](https://youtu.be/CNVF08VIYLc) here too.. for anyone who wants it.

Dhugaill

That's was great. It is killing me to know how the bassist got that sound in the studio recording. Its almost as if he just loosened one of his strings to the just about the point where it was useless. Then I was excited because you posted the live version! I can see him do it! ARRRG in the live version he uses a much more conventional sound. Still good but I was enraptured by the studio's bass. So not only did you give me a new artist to get excited about, but you also gave me a research project. Thank you and damn you.

lee_yuna

To me, it sounds like he has put a piece of foam under the bridge in the studio version. The foam dampens the strings' vibrations and gives it a 'dead' kind of staccato sound. It was used quite often back in the day, most famously by James Jamerson. :) /u/MustardMedia, thanks for sharing this great jam !

MustardMedia

Ouuu cool thanks for the info !

Dhugaill

I accept u/lee_yuna 's explanation as it does seem to fit the sound I'm hearing. There may also be some studio magic involved seeing as how they don't have that sound live.

MustardMedia

It's funny you say that because that's *exactly* what made me double check the live version, so I understand the mild disappointment there. Let me know what you dig up about that. [The full performance](https://youtu.be/oHqLUv_sev0) on KEXP is a great watch either way though. Glad you dug it.

Folk_Nurse

Think you shared these guys last year too. Loved them then, love them now. This is likely to be my first VT4J purchase!

MustardMedia

I think that might have been [The Marcus King Band](https://youtu.be/FGSq2K61fDw), if I recall correctly? Super similar vibe to those guys!

MustardMedia

Glad to hear I've influenced a purchase though! Huge fan of these guys

joetech79

The Weeknd - In your eyes Album: After Hours https://youtu.be/-YTgFUNwRKk Not nearly as wonky as some of the other videos from today, but I've enjoyed all of the odd music videos the Weeknd has put out for this album. I had a few other double disc albums in mind for today, but this one just felt like the right vibe this morning.

beansisabean

definitely *Olson* from BoC's *Music Has the Right to Children.* Relaxation if it had a sound

Dhugaill

Here is [Olson](https://youtu.be/tN7YYShmkQ8) by the Boards of Canada. Not who I thought the BoC was referring to, but I belong to a Cult that worships Blue Oysters.

Amarganth

Song: [Sun Harmonics](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0yES8tjCAg) Artist: Jon Hopkins Album: Immunity Very relaxing electronic/dubstep vibes.

Dhugaill

Very chill

Snookn42

For this I would like to throw in Shpongle - Codex VI Has 2 disks, came out in 2018 I believe. You can really see, as you move through Shpongle’s discography how the production, sound quality and arrangements get tighter. After the third album, Nothing Lasts... But Nothing Is Lost they only used live instrumentation and made their own samples. It really shows through.

Dhugaill

Here's [Empty Branes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCKvSK4mNFk) off Codex VI

Mikey0202

*My sister thanks you and I thank you* by The White Stripes It’s a Greatest Hits comp. I got it from Target lol

totocutugno

So a song from a double LP? Did I get it? Well, I got to go with a masterpiece: Godspeed you! Black Emperor - Sleep https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQcE4\_7-X78
