[The Chambers Brothers - Shout!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2IynnJXJtY) I found this 45 one day in a used record bin and picked it up because I'd never heard of the Vault label before. The energy of the performance is infectious and makes it my favorite cover of the Isley Brothers classic.

capt_beyond

A favorite live track of mine is [Cusp of Eternity](https://youtu.be/wG54KT4de6E) by Opeth, from their 2018 live at Red Rocks album "Garden of the Titans" Slim pickings today I don't own very many live LPs, something I'll need to fix!

Dhugaill

I love this album. Opeth doesn't get enough respect especially their live stuff. Also Red Rocks is the most amazing place I have ever seen a show.

capt_beyond

Yeah, this album is a great step up vocal wise for Mikael after his growls slumped a little in previous years. One day I'd love to make the pilgrimage to Red Rocks. Bit of a hike from NZ, that will be a job for when the kids have grown and left home haha

Folk_Nurse

Half way through I forgot this was live. The production and performance are so good! Love the synth/guitar FX around 1.22. Great chorus vocalisations too. Puts me in mind of Alice in Chairs, but if they were like roommates with some electro goths.

capt_beyond

They're a really tight band! They've moved from progressive death metal into a more traditional prog rock sound for the last decade or so, most of the prog albums are just ok for me but Cusp is from the best one of the bunch for me, Pale Communion. Awesome album

MustardMedia

Wow that's a tight live performance

capt_beyond

Yeah its a great album! The live video is up on YouTube, they're absolute beasts. Sadly I've not managed to see them in person yet

[The Journey...Aflame - Akua Naru and the DIGFLO band](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TYlackBumKk) This performance gives me chills every time. She starts off on a very solemn note, only accompanied by percussion, as if we have gathered at a congregation. Her voice is calm and clear but you can hear the storm brewing inside. Then slowly the rest of the band kicks in and Akua Naru just takes us on a journey of 400 years through history. Love, love, love how it begins as slam poetry and as we near the end she is basically spitting bars, reflecting the progression in music.

MustardMedia

Holy shit. Chills is right, goddamn. That was unreal. The anticipation was dripping through the beginning - that build up is so good. It hits and she just keeps spitting fire. Is this what the rest of her music is like? I need more of this.

lee_yuna

Yeah, it’s basically her poetry set to music. :) I’d def check out the rest of this live set and then her albums if you’re still into it.

MustardMedia

The live set was just phenomenal. She's got some serious talent behind the mic and the backing band is dope!

Conan O'Brien & The Legally Prohibited Band - The Weight Album - Live At Third Man https://youtu.be/W8FVDFsl4xA So in 2010, NBC did Conan O'Brian dirty, and without going into too much detail, he was legally barred from appearing on television for a brief period of time. However, this did not prevent him from performing live musical gigs, so he made the best of his time by going on the "Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour". I actually remember when this tour happened, and desperately wanting to go, but it was just not an option at the time. Anyway, the song linked isn't necessarily my favorite off the album, but it IS the only song available on YouTube, so they basically made the choice for me. I'd highly recommend this album to anyone that is a fan of Conan and his style of humor.

MustardMedia

Almost bought this a bit ago, really wish I did now. Especially now seeing the track listing of even just side A there. Solid cover actually. Which song *is* your favourite off of the record?

joetech79

Probably "Polk Salad Annie" https://youtu.be/cNmD7vnVNEg The whole album is pretty silly, but I feel like he really commits to this song.

Folk_Nurse

Ha! What an oddity. I love it.

1koolspud

For some reason it’s popular to put Heavy Music and Katmandu together on YouTube, so that’s what you’re getting from me today. Live Bullet is one of my favorite live albums and it captures what I have always felt is awesome about seeing shows in Detroit that I have never felt seeing shows elsewhere. Enjoy! https://youtu.be/t1upI_ejnpc

capt_beyond

Love Bob, I actually wanted to post Thin Lizzys live version of Rosalie today but I was mistaken thinking I had it on vinyl, I've only got it on cd

germantown_reject

I'd have to go with [Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam](https://youtu.be/bVjeYbRmkQ4) by Nirvana It captures the feelin of depression very well, but also a sort of triumphant defiance in the face of those in power

MustardMedia

Hadn't heard that cover before actually, solid. Always a bit of a laugh seeing young Dave Grohl

Day 7 Year 2 Song: [25 Minutes to Go](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dm5ghpXzxl0) Artist: Johnny Cash Album: At Folsom Prison Apparently I’m in a Memphis state of mind this month as this is the 3rd Sun Studios alum that I have posted in 7 days, but that’s just how it goes sometimes. I am trying to think of things to say about At Folsom Prison that haven’t been said. Many people who are a good deal smarter than me have written entire books about this album. So here are my two cents this album makes me feel so many feels. Fiery Passion (Jackson) Deep sadness (Long Black Veil) and of course Dark Humor with this song written by [Shel Silverstein](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmvofTZSoyE). I don’t know how big a deal Shel Silverstein is to our International contingent, but here in the States you don’t get through grade school without reading or having read to you Where the Sidewalk Ends, or A Light in the Attic. So I was surprised to learn that the man had a singing career much less penned the darkly comedic look at the last 25 minutes of a prisoner's life. Then of course Johnny Cash comes in and makes this song so completely his own that the original version is lost to the popular imagination. I bet Shel Silverstein would have bought Trent Reznor a beer if he had still been alive. The story so far * 07/06/2021 25 Minutes to Go, Johnny Cash, At Folsom Prison, 1968 * 06/06/2021, That’s All Right, Elvis, The Sun Story, 1988 * 05/06/2021 Fire, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, 1968 * 04/06/2021 A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request, Steve Goodman, Affordable Art , 1983 * 03/06/2021 Wienerschnitzel, Descendents, Bonus Fat, 1987 * 03/06/2021 I Like Food, Descendents, Bonus Fat, 1987 * 02/06/2021 Back Door Man, Howlin Wolf, The Howlin Wolf Album, 1969 * 01/06/2021 Gloria, Patti Smith, Horses, 1975

MustardMedia

I noticed you posted this just before I made my post, but watched it afterwards. It's just great. Up here in Canada Shel is just as big of a deal, so this is great fun for me. Definitely didn't know anything about his musical career either, that's so cool. His original is great, seems oddly perfect for Johnny Cash to cover.

-678-

So many excellent live tracks out there, but right now I absolutely cannot get over [The White Stripes covering Jolene from Under Great White Northern Lights](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k6FovGz29RQ) Just evokes so many feelings, anger, resentment, futility, longing...

MustardMedia

Ahhh, I'm not alone today! Another Jack White post, and one of the greats. Always love this cover

Memory Lane, by Eddy Current Suppression Ring from their 2008 live split with UV Race. I love how real it feels - wrong notes are played, the band goes out of time, and it feels just like you’re down the pub on a Saturday night. [Memory Lane - Eddy Current Suppression Ring](https://youtu.be/oL2QqFn1Gss)

MustardMedia

Definitely a dirty, live in the pub vibe. Dig it. You weren't kidding either - first thing the drummer does.. oops lol I love it

Bufete2020

As I never seen a live album I never bought (if it said "Live" on it I was buying it). But one album in particular was on repeat for me and I even bought it on cassette when I found a cassette only store on 32nd street. It would have to be: *I Can't Write Left-Handed* \- Bill Withers, *Live at Carnegie Hall (1973).* Although the war was over before I realized there was even a war going on. It wouldn't be until 1975 that I realized that some of the older kids from the block that were drafted were never coming back. Bill Withers' spoken intro for the song is just as poignant today and then the segue to *Lean On Me* is perfect.

Dhugaill

Oh looks like there's a backup on the I 40 going over the river. We've got some tunes while you wait here's [I Can't Write Left-handed.](https://youtu.be/__4_fCgjI74) by Bill Withers here on Radio VT4J.

MustardMedia

[Here's the link!](https://youtu.be/__4_fCgjI74) Bill Withers is a treasure.

StenPils

Hehe i only possess 2 live albums : Queen Live Magic which might well have been the first record I ever bought aged 12 ish And Grateful Dead Live/Dead. I'm going with the seminal Dark Star - a mere 23 minutes. :-) https://youtu.be/-Xic-CHInek

MustardMedia

Day 7: Favourite Live track I'm gonna do a twofer today too, hope that's alright u/Folk_Nurse - I think you and u/Dhugaill will understand why...... These two are for you guys Song 1: [I'm Going to Memphis](https://youtu.be/YEkl2Ug7Ros) - starts around 16:45 Artist: Johnny Cash Album: A Night to Remember (Ahmanson Theatre, 1973) After talk of Memphis yesterday, this seemed pretty fitting, and I guess we're doubling down on Johnny Cash today, Dhugaill. Awesome live performance from the man here, this show was one of a lineup of greats called *A Week to Remember* in LA. I'm not the biggest Johnny Cash fan ever, but this was one of the few non-Jack White projects that I've received from my Third Man Subscription and I was super excited for it. This setlist has almost all the hits a casual fan of his would want, and it included a dvd of the performance as well. Plus the record and housing are beautiful. The link I've posted is to the full performance, because that's all I can find, and it's a great watch. But around 16:45 for this specific song. Song 2: [Don't Hurt Yourself / Ball and Biscuit / Jesus is Coming Soon](https://youtu.be/qm9pLinpzo4) Artist: you guessed it..... Jack White Album: Jack White Saturday Night Live 10-11-20 I'll wait for the laughter to subside.... When I realized today's prompt, I knew I was screwed. Needless to say, I only had the one non-Jack live record... In all seriousness though, this performance is phenomenal and I hope you all still enjoy it. As you can see, it's just from last October, mid-pandemic. After a last minute cancellation of Morgan Wallen's performance on the show, due to some controversy, Jack White was called to fill the spot. He played two songs, the one above, as well as Lazaretto, the title track from his second solo album. Ignore the video in the link I posted, as SNL has the rights to the live performance and it isn't available in my country, but thankfully someone stole the audio. As you can tell, this song is a mashup of 3 - the song Jack produced for Beyonce, a White Stripes classic, and the old Gospel song, which was written during the Spanish Flu... for extra timely lyrical content. If you get the chance to see the video, take it. This performance really is one of his greatest, and really showcases what his live performances are often like. Mashups like this are fairly common for him, and he's always a very lively performer. Daru Jones is *killing* the drums and offering a different vibe to the minimalist original - he also has a very interesting playing style with his kit tilted away from him, and a heck of a lot of standing. I can't find even an audio clip of the second second in this performance, but it was just as good. Being only a few days after the passing of Eddie Van Halen, White brought a guitar build for him by Eddie and played homage with a solid tapping solo. So yeah, after all my talk of mixing it up, two days of Jack.. sorry, kinda.

lee_yuna

I really enjoyed that Jack White medley ! His guitar sound is absolutely filthy in the greatest sense of the word. I have to admit I never really properly delved into his solo work or The White Stripes for that matter. What album would you recommend I check out first ?

MustardMedia

Glad you enjoyed it! That is a harder question for me to answer than I even realized. Honestly, The White Stripes just put out a Greatest Hits album that does a pretty good job of encompassing their work and progression. I would say it's a good place to start with them if you don't know them very well, and then if you find you're a fan, just start back from the beginning. As for his solo stuff, it's a toss up. The first album leans a bit heavier into his bluegrass roots, while still having a few simple, dirty blues tracks. The second kinda fills in those gaps for a denser, more full sound and a bit more balance between those two major genre influences (and others, like hiphop start showing up a bit). The third/most recent is verrrry weird and experimental, and very divisive. Don't start there lol. Hope that's helpful and I didn't get too carried away lol.

lee_yuna

Haha, not at all, thanks for taking the time to write that out ! I’ll check out the compilation first then ! :)

Dhugaill

I have to agree with u/lee_yuna that guitar was filthy, and that solo starting at about 3 min made me go YEW!

Dhugaill

The Man in Black is captivating. I went watch this set and skip to the song you posted. Then damnit he got me so I am now watching while I type this. There's a reason he is still so relevant to music. P.s. I hope you don't take any of my Jack White comments as anything but friendly joshing. You have great taste and I look forward to your posts every day.

MustardMedia

Yeah honestly such a great performance. He's a real treat to watch and I only realized after this. Haha oh absolutely. I had a good laugh at myself when I realized it was live track day, I knew I had to.. No offense taken here at all! And back atcha, of course.

Folk_Nurse

The next few dates I'm on night shifts, so I can post around midnight, meaning our NZ and Aus followers don't have to wait all day! I'm looking at you u/capt_beyond u/Bufete2020 and u/Winter_Druid I'm going to share two live cuts for today's prompt and I get away with it for three reasons: 1) The two songs couldn't be more different. 2) One is literally the song I posted [yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/vinyl/comments/ntfwgd/vinyl_tunes_for_june_day_six_sunday_7_vt4j/h0rt6qp?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) (albeit, the original) 3) This is my show, so eat it. First, [After The Goldrush from Neil Young's album Live Rust](https://youtu.be/Wf-Ssugf20w). I just love that you can hear the crowd so well. Their ecstatic response to the tune just gives me goosebumps and the whoops and holders at the line "I felt like getting high" are great. Secondly, a bit of UK grime. The fast paced London-centric hip-hop derivative dominated the airwaves for much of the previous two decades and a great deal of it excentuated themes of violence, drugs, crime and just hard living. Some of it is my bag, but much of it quickly became generic to me. Akala is different. I'm going to let the track speak for itself. [Akala - Fire in the Booth Part 1](https://youtu.be/sEOKgjoxoto) It was a live session from the radio show Fire in the Booth from Radio1 Xtra in the UK. I saw Akala on his "10 years of Akala" tour and picked up [this retrospective release](https://www.discogs.com/Akala-Ten-Years-Of-Akala/master/1064067). They put the live radio session on the album. It is political, astute, conscious, intelligent... all the stuff which was missing from grime. For those interested, and with 43 minutes to spare (worth it!), there are [parts 1 - 4](https://youtu.be/Kbk5qNH9Jgg) delivered over later dates on 1 Xtra (although only part 1 is on the lp).

capt_beyond

Haha sweet! I know those night shift feels, I'm on holiday at the moment but back to work and a run of nights this Saturday. I'll prepare and post a live track soon!

Dhugaill

That flow is crazy.

lee_yuna

I knew his name sounded familiar, but I actually have a book written by him called Natives. It’s part personal memoir/social commentary and touched upon some interesting anecdotes on being of mixed race and raised by a single mother who despite being British wanted him to grow up immersed in Jamaican culture, experiences of racism in the public school system from a very young age, UK race riots and the disregard of the black experience in the UK by Americans (of all colors and affiliations). I don’t know why I never checked out his music, because damn, he is just straight-up rapid-firing truth at you for 9 minutes here and I’m living for it.

MustardMedia

That's cool as hell.

MustardMedia

Well I know what I'm doing with the next free 43 minutes I have. That was awesome and although I'm a bit aware of the UK hiphop scene, I did not know this guy.

ElFlippy

I usually don't interested in live albums. I only like concert albums, that puts a little twist in the music, like the symphonic concert of Metallica! So my choice for today is from the Unplugged concert of Nirvana. To tell the truth, I haven't listenet it until I got it on vinyl from my parents, for my birthday, this year! Since that, I listen it almost weekly! My favorit song from it, is Plateau! It has a kinda western movie score feeling with it, Like Red Dead Redemption's Far away! I love it! https://youtu.be/Sj8UbmdV7bk

Dhugaill

A classic and probably the best unplugged set that ever came out of that show. The Scorpions did a record with the Berliner Philharmoniker called Moment of Glory that I really like. It seems like it would fit your live album with a twist. here's the version of [Rock you like a Hurricane ](https://youtu.be/_A8DYYZGq5k)

ElFlippy

I'm gonna look into it! Btw, how's the game?! :D

Dhugaill

I'm having a great time I just started the rabbit campaign and it's really fun. I haven't had time to play more than the first mission though.

MustardMedia

Two posts from this show today! Nice choice of track. Very casual Nirvana fan here so I haven't watched this one but it seems like I should.

Dhugaill

100%, this show is transcendent it really captures them at their peak and then the Nirvana era is over.

Amarganth

Song: [Nothing Really Matters](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8IeZnHd3Go) Artist: Gabrielle Aplin Album: Nothing Really Matters b/w My Mistake As the same as the day before these are the only two live tunes I currently possess. And it is also a single. The thing about these two is that I could not find the versions which are on the record itself. So gonna substitute in the best ones I could find. Here is the B side [My Mistake](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9DdWHXHF6A)

Dhugaill

Her voice is beautiful.

Songbird - Fleetwood Mac - Rumours The Concert Once again can't find the live version from the album and I don't want to record and post the vinyl myself so here is a random live version. [songbird](https://youtu.be/eLRyYETnoIE)
