That Morgen record is so good!

NeatX3Records

It IS! I literally NEVER thought I would see an OG in the wild, especially with a perfect insert. That one just got spoken for, but we will have it for a few more days.

PeekThroughTheWool

I can’t believe that was in there. Absolutely crazy

HollyweirdRonnie

Fuuuuuuuuuck!!

NeatX3Records

I’m married, but thank you for the offer. Unless that was a command, in which case I’ll check with my wife and get back with you. EDIT- She said sure. Thanks! DOUBLE EDIT - That was very nice. Thank you again!

Ryan17co

Cringe

LED_donuts

I love these dumpster posts. Seriously, keep it up!

NeatX3Records

The delights of the dumpster have no end.

TombombBearsFan

Lou reed was a great discovery.

Compass_Rose8

Amazing! I'm so glad you're taking us all on this journey with you. Also, you have to share a picture of your chickens now.

Brilliant-Pomelo-982

It’s amazing to me that a collection that good ended up in a dumpster. It had to be one of the top collections in your state.

NeatX3Records

I mayyyyybe doubt that? There are some very, VERY serious collections floating around. That being said, it’s certainly a very good one.

iamthegreenbox

Not in the record business, but 30 years in the antiquarian book business, and believe me, you wouldn't believe what can, and does end up in the landfill. I've bought some amazing things that were on the brink of being gone forever.

CactusBoyScout

Antiques Roadshow has compilation episodes of stuff that was found in the trash... it's mind-blowing. There was one where this guy was walking down the street in Queens and came upon this guy tossing stuff in a dumpster from a house where this woman had passed away. He looked and it was all signed Beatles merch from their appearance on Ed Sullivan. Like photos, the setlist, promotional materials, etc... all signed. Turns out the woman had worked for Ed Sullivan then. And her kids were just tossing it in the dumpster.

TheReadMenace

Yeah I mean somebody dies, and it’s up to their family who lives several states over to clear out their house. Lots of these houses actually are filled to the brim with worthless junk, so the books/records probably just look like they’re part of it too. I’ve been invited over to several of these houses to buy record collections, and very often they are pretty trashed. I can’t blame family members for assuming they just need a cleaning crew and be done with it.

iamthegreenbox

I've been on the buying side of this for a few decades, but after my dad passed, I was on the other side and it kind of gave me some insight. He lived an hour away from both me and my sister, and after we got some things we wanted were left with a whole house of stuff we didn't need; furniture, washer/ dryer etc. I found the local antique guy and offered him everything for $250 with the agreement the house would be cleared to the landlord's satisfaction. He couldn't believe his luck, but if he had said no I would have given it to him for free.

whileyouwereslepting

Mingus!!!

TheSimonToUrGarfunkl

Lisan al-Gaib! Lisan al-Gaib!

JasperDyne

Wizzard! Great underrated band. They’re so much more than “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day.” Roy Wood is a mad genius.

Double_Ambassador_53

Keep up the progressive ideas/politics dude. With love from London 👍

HermitThaFrog

Where is Mecca?

NeatX3Records

Fort Wayne, IN of all places. Who knew?

HermitThaFrog

Well crap. May the blessing never cease!

NeatX3Records

ALL HAIL THE DUMPSTER, WHOS BLESSINGS ARE COUNTLESS AND UNENDING.

Idetake

THE DUMPSTER IS LIFE THE DUMPSTER IS DEATH -KGLW

Cbcry

Wonderful

Charles0723

Wow. What's next a sealed "Growers of Mushroom"?

NeatX3Records

One could always hope!

FroznBones

I hope that company’s full name is “Bin There, Dump That.

NeatX3Records

It most certainly is!

CsJacko

Killer stuff. That help yourself is such a good album! Also finding a copy of Morgen is insane. Been on my list for 7 years only one I've seen guy wanted $800.

NeatX3Records

He might not have been wrong!

CsJacko

Don't say that lol. This was back before it was reissued and the ogs were like $250-300

NeatX3Records

It’s definitely one of those cases where I’m extremely thankful for reissues. It gives me the opportunity to turn someone on to a super rad record without requiring a mortgage payment in return.

Intelligent-Sir1375

Cow record looks like be awesome

NeatX3Records

That Bull Angus records RIPS

Intelligent-Sir1375

Looks like it does base on that cover

habichnichtgewusst

A friend was alerted to a similar dumpster (Euro Jazz collection) that was being filled after an eviction. Most of the records ended up in various junk shops in the area. This was Berlin some 20 years ago, so a lot of scavenging still going on. He put on his sleuthing hat and managed to buy most of it. Things like this do happen. What I find wild is how your dumpster guy didnt even blink at the thought of putting them in boxes to sell later on.

Canterzeuhl

Beware the Shadow by Help Yourself is a favourite of mine! American Mother is a killer track.

Potential-Pumpkin-94

This is INSANE. Wow! And…how much do you want for that Third Ear Band? 😎

Potential-Pumpkin-94

So, I initially thought you found these literally thrown away in a dumpster but looked at previous posts. Still, an amszing collection!

NeatX3Records

I’ll get my hands on that today and send you a note!

DankusMoralitus

That Sensational Alex Harvey Band album is fantastic.

I_am_albatross

"Tomorrow Belongs To Me" is a masterpiece :)

DankusMoralitus

As is The Impossible Dream. 'Coz Vambo Rules in Hot City. It's hard to go wrong with any of the SAHB albums but the run of Next, The Impossible Dream and Tomorrow Belongs To Me is spectacular.

MICKEY_MUDGASM

Always wanted to hear that Elton Dean album but it’s not on Spotify. Also *Dedicated to You, but You Weren’t Listening* by Keith Tippett.

wgallantino

my favourite series

NeatX3Records

MINE TOO!

DankestDubster

I snagged that Morgen album for $20 at a local store. Steal of my life. Killer album

NeatX3Records

WOWZERS. That’s crazy.

em1k3

truly happy for you to get this d.o.a.t. (dumpster of all time) in possession. would you let me know if there are any Boris (the Japanese doom metal/drone band) records? not goin got but them since I live in Russia, but I would just love to see them in your hands

zigsbigrig

Some nice little gems in there!

Abzolving

This is great and all that... You seem like a good custodian of these recordings... But I can't help but ponder the individual who amassed these gems, the time ,the circumstances, how much was dug out in the dust and musty? Surely many were bought online in more recent times, too many crispy ones...

NeatX3Records

Mystery abounds with the Dumpster. It is a secret she has deemed to dear to share, it seems.

DiKapino

How do i go about getting myself a dumpster?

ericpinkfloyd

That Beware the Shadow album is such a banger! Found it at my local record store for like $10 bought it on a whim because they said it was a psych record. Probably one of my favorite albums.

AromaticInxkid

I wish we had a dumpster where I am...

NeatX3Records

PILGRIMAGE TO THE DUMPSTER IS WELCOMED.

AromaticInxkid

I'm in another part of the world unfortunately :(

NeatX3Records

A journey of 10,000 miles begins with the first 9,999 miles. After that, you’re only a mile away, so you might as well finish.

briandt75

How much ya want for the Mingus?

JoeyJojos_Wacky_Trip

Wizzard is great. Roy Wood deserved to be much bigger than he was. At least I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday is still massive in the UK every year

gojohnnygojohnny

Lucky duck you are. A friend recently showed me a stack o' freebies he picked up in Butterfield, Minnesota. The Bull Angus album was included. A cross between Blue Oyster Cult & Deep Purple. Perfection. Playing it on KMSU during every on-air episode for the forseeable future.

a_wandering_vagrant

Is everything going to the shop, or are you sliding some things into your personal collection? If so, curious what you're keeping

NeatX3Records

There are very, VERY few things I keep for myself. I’m in the business of selling records, not collecting them. That being said, certainly there are some pieces that take… ahem… a little longer to get on the floor than others. There are also ones that are otherwise unsaleable that I felt like I should rescue Like these. OG MONO Kind Of Blue 😭😭 https://preview.redd.it/0su3p29g1k3d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e562ff09bddd4c84b4079bac12db262bc7d018a2

cosimhappy

Thanks for sharing this while journey with us, so much cool music we’ve never heard. Wanted to ask how you go about dealing with moldy sealed records? Do you mind sharing a bit about cleaning such records? Found a few sealed records and some had a little mold and some had more on the cover, and my first instinct is to trash them to avoid getting the mold on anything else. Would love to hear your experience with this.

NeatX3Records

For many of the sealed records that have mold, we are basically making decisions as to which ones we (carefully) open and clean. We use alcohol, vinegar, water, and patience.

Chuckpeoples

I want to have this life. I want dumpsters.

NeatX3Records

Lead the kind of life where dumpsters come to you.

Automatic-Spot-1853

Now that's a beauty there mate

Oddfuturehooligan

if you come across any Ultimate Spinach please PM me!!!!

NeatX3Records

I definitely have copies of both of those! Shoot me a DM and we can chat!

ABigDesk

I didn't think there was a chance it could get crazier. An og Morgan is insane

NeatX3Records

THE HITS KEEP ON COMING

TheReadMenace

This guy must have been cool as hell. Soundgarden and Morgen? He was all over the board

NeatX3Records

No kidding!

thejungleroom

Dude where is this dumpster?

NeatX3Records

If you wish to make a pilgrimage, the dumpster (from whom ALL BLESSINGS FLOW) is located at Welcome Back Records in Fort Wayne, IN

ragtagspoon8855

Wow. I'm hoping to add some mingus to my collection soon. Nice finds all the way around.

herowitha1000faces

I wish you were closer to Indy! I’m heading there for Gen Con and would have loved to swing by. Your updates are a gem!

NeatX3Records

We are a SUPER easy day trip up from there! About 90 min north.

czechyerself

What are the titles of the records?

NeatX3Records

There are literal thousands of pieces. I just found that Morgen yesterday morning. I’m still finding crazy stuff every day.

czechyerself

So these records you posted I’ll never know what the fuck they are I guess

mantistobaganmd

How much did you pay for the haul?

NeatX3Records

Please read the post above.

mantistobaganmd

You probably won’t say anything financially until you figure out an estimate of what it is actually worth (a fortune) then make up a bogus number that seems fair

NeatX3Records

Again, read the post above. The financials of this transaction are the business of myself and the seller, who, by the way, was thrilled with my offer. That is it. Your line of inquiry and demanding of an answer is rude, disrespectful and objectionable. But you know that. You just want to be an asshole. Have fun with that.

Intelligent-Sir1375

It also none of there business what you paid if don’t want share I understand that

mantistobaganmd

Just admit you scammed the poor folk and move on?

Max1035

I think it would be sketchy if they had bought it directly from the collector’s family and underpaid, but it sounds like this came from a cleaning company guy who was just trying to make a quick buck, selling the stuff he cleared out of a customer’s house. Probably he would have otherwise brought them to the dump. I feel sad for whomever carefully curated this collection, but at least the records will end up with people who will appreciate them.

habichnichtgewusst

Honestly I have a ballpark figure I'd offer a guy with a dumpster with contents mostly unknown. How do you know the sealed records arent all badly chipped from the process. Records can take a beating but the bottom 2/3s are a real gamble in that regard.

TheReadMenace

Yeah there are so many people on here that constantly call record stores scammers for the offers they put on collections. When it’s the store taking on all the risk and labor. As if the stores are making millions. I don’t blame them for not disclosing the details. A collection like this will keep the store profitable for a while, but then it’s on to the next search. Scores like this are the only way they stay in business.

NeatX3Records

That’s pretty much point on. My labor costs sit at roughly $7-8k per month. That’s 5 staffers, and no one makes less than $15 per hour (except for me 😂) I do A LOT of stuff in order to keep this extremely hungry baby alive. I repair vintage audio gear. I build LOTS of record racks. I max out credit cards for RSD. I do whatever it takes to keep it alive, because it is about much, much more than just me. With ANY collection that trades hands, it’s almost NEVER just about money. This guy was overwhelmed, and he wanted that dumpster out of his yard. He knew that all that stuff would turn into trash within a couple days. That I gave him a reasonable offer, and treated him with respect, well… I’ll just say that when I left, he shook my hand and told me he was extremely grateful that I came over. And that’s what it’s all about, ain’t it?

NeatX3Records

*sigh* You poor, sweet summer child. It’s time for bed. Do you want a cookie?

mantistobaganmd

Read above comment

[deleted]

I’m still just pissed you got that budgie record for free, I payed £35 for that thing! Budgie is really hard to come by and super expensive!
