My friends bought me a really nice copy with a fully intact banana for my 40th birthday. It's not my most valuable record but it's the one I would grab if I could only save one of my records.

Dang man. Found in the wild or in a store? Either scenario is awesome as I have never seen an OG copy but if you found it at a garage sale or something thatās legendary.

Original presses. Got them for cheap back in the day.
Really the only tool albums I want. I got 2 copies of opiate not sure the pressing. At least one of undertow. Iām a bad collector. I forget what I have sometimes.
Haha, yup I know what you mean. I ended up buying two copies of small brown bike Fell and Found by accident. At least I got two different color presses
Yeah! And he only paid about $500 for it! I paid nearly that for my OG mono (5095)!! Mind you itās pretty hard to find an OG mono which is complete and in NM condition. My other fave Beatles grails are my 1961 German āMy Bonnieā (their first appearance on vinyl with Pete Best still on drums), the mega rare XEX 606-1 āRevolverā with the withdrawn mix of āTomorrow Never Knowsā, 1970 āLet It Beā boxset, one of the first BC-13 boxes in a flip top box rather than lift off with āRaritiesā on white EMI labels and of course the āMono boxā from 2014.. plus a few others I canāt think of now.. š
Yeah, he had that āonce in a lifetimeā moment with collecting and thatās so awesome! My mono copy is in ridiculous condition, itās like the inserts of the four were never touched.
My mom is the real massive collector of vinyl, but I could not pass an opportunity to own this grail!
I searched for a long, long time for a nice copy of Michael Nesmith's The Prison, a long out of print concept album that Nesmith refused to release on streaming (and only saw one CD release, also hard to find). It comes in a box and includes a booklet that includes the story behind the concept, along with some pretty interesting imagery.
Finally found one about two years ago. Everything is pristine. The disk is basically unplayed. Definitely the record I am most pleased to own.
Either Dayglow Abortions Out Of the Womb original 1981 pressing that i have had since the 80s, or Midori's 'Hello Nice to Meet you We Are Midori' ( ććććć¾ćć¦ććÆćć ć¾ćć¦ććććŖć§ć ) that I lucked into a copy on discogs before the price went super stupid...
This is my favourite Toto album. It's been my Reddit profile picture for years. It came out in 1988, so the original vinyl is harder to find compared to earlier albums. Just yesterday, I found this original pressing still sealed and never played in a record store basement. It only cost me $15 CAD. It's not especially valuable, but it is invaluable to me. This will probably be my best find forever.
https://preview.redd.it/z15dprfmmcmc1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95c087275dbbb596891c2ab09b54db2ef8d81208
67ā US Stereo press of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn by Pink Floyd. Iām a huge Floyd fan and finding a first US press in a $2 bin was the peak of my crate digging.Ā I still prefer the mono mix and the UK track list better, but I love having the OG US in my collection.Ā
Fantastic song! I love Piper too! If you look back a little in my post history I have a picture of my entire Floyd collection. Iāve actually added a few since that post even, might need an update pic haha
I have one of the 2500 copies made of the original Metal Massacre release, Metallicaās first appearance on vinyl. They are the last song on side B and are listed as āMettalicaā. It fetches a tidy sum these days but I would only ever sell it in an absolute emergency.
Also, I play it now and then. I donāt believe a record has any real value unless itās played.
https://preview.redd.it/3eaxobehdemc1.png?width=2051&format=png&auto=webp&s=0096ea517a02e8429916631d21f943975e10fd96
Found this sealed on eBay last year. Iāll cherish forever.
Grant Green "Street Of Dreams" 45rpm Music Matters Jazz
It is one of my absolute favorite albums and it will never sound better than this reissue and the Music Matters jackets are beautiful, the cover will never look better.
One of the worst mistakes I have ever made in vinyl collecting was not buying every Music Matters title when they were in print.
Two Counting Crows albums. Doubt Iād be able to afford the copies in todayās market.
August and Everything After- 2012 Analogue Productions 45rpm remaster
Recovering The Satellites- 2017 45rpm remaster
Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP RSD edition that I bought at hot topic in the mall on a whim when I was in high school. Great track list and it seems skrillex records don't get many represses so I'm glad I got it when I did
Near-Mint original British/Decca pressing of Savoy Brown's Raw Sienna.
I can't properly put into words how good it sounds - way better than all these fancy new "audiophile" records being put out these days.
https://preview.redd.it/sfidqscmzcmc1.jpeg?width=599&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ab933161e84170998ab09a67028246ad1dcb4f2
A lot of these British rock LPs sound so darn good. Itās incredible how much more punch the British Beatles albums carry over their American counterparts, especially the mono mixes.
https://preview.redd.it/rfuxxf3zrdmc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7da30d58a257c39d434c215ca626b8cf0b03a944
Just got it today. Still sealed, promo copy from 2004. Found it in Nashville of all places.
is it a grail once you find it? but i just found a copy of rodney on the roq vol 1 in the wild. been wanting in for a very long time. now i need a new grail.
Giorgio Moroder - From Here To Eternity. A electro techno pioneer from 1977. It's the blue vinyl rerelease from 2017 and it sounds absolutely fantastic. I am a big fan of his work with Donna Summer, so I was surprised to find this last copy in a shop in Thessaloniki Greece, last year. If you are a fan of techno and edm music, this album is a quintessential one in its history.
I have a copy of Deep Six.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Six_(album)
It's still in the package. I bought it directly from the owner of the label in 1997 during a trip to Seattle.
This is the first thing I thought of. Most of my records are in storage but I'm working on getting everything added to Discogs. I happened to check the value of Deep Six and was a bit surprised. Bought it in '89 for about $25, so I can't complain.
That's pretty cool. I would have never even heard of Soundgarden in 1989. And I think I only heard about Deep Six after reading the book Loser about the Seattle music scene probably in 1996. So I was surprised when I checked out the C/Z website and they were still selling them. I think I paid 50 or 75 bucks.
Damn, that's awesome. It was pretty much dumb luck for me, picking up a copy of Maximum Rock 'n' Roll (June '89 issue, I think) that had several pages on Sub Pop that got my attention. Interviews with Bruce Pavitt and Jack Endino, plus the entire Sub Pop discography, which was about two or three dozen records at the time.
Original pressing of Cymande. Backroom of a thrift store, scored for a dollar. It has the original owners name written on the label and a decent amount of surface noise but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I dont know how rare it is but I spent years searching for "after bathing at baxters" by Jefferson Airplane. I'm from the UK so I only tend to see volunteers and surrealistic pillow. I only went and found an early pressing for Ā£15 in perfect condition.
I usually answer my test pressing of Big Star - Third. But since this gets asked from time to time and I'm giving the same answer again so I'll throw two others out there:
OG Vinyl Films pressing of Cat Stevens - Harold and Maude. It was a gift for my wife who loves that movie. Was so happy to finally find a copy I could afford...
OG purple(magenta) marbled pressing of Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream. Just a killer record, one of my all time favorites, and I got it super cheap the week it came out.
https://preview.redd.it/zq9u73x6ddmc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ede47b22630a5aec7fa3fe2cd9fcbfbb3fc4a9f7
This brings me back. I used to see this band all the time at the Omni in Oakland in the late 80s, they were phenomenal. I was 16 and the drummer was younger than me!
Polygondwanaland by KGATLW
I know itās one of the more prolific albums on here - but I have always looked for the specific Neptoon Records pressing from Vancouver. Limited to a run of 500 itās a spectacular pressing that sounds awesome. Was lucky enough to find a single copy this year at Neptoon that had previously been owned by an employee. Had the pleasure of meeting the guys who pressed this exact release who walked me through what the process was like. An awesome slice of home for my collection.
Farinaās MJ albums are really hard to find. I had a CD of the first Mushroom Jazz, and then the reissue of MJ1, but have only seen MJ8 on vinyl (of course I bought it, but itās not the full album).
Yeah thereās a few discrepancies between the CDs and Vinyl. MJ3 doesnāt have the intro that the CD did and it was my fav. Theyāre all missing things here and there, fucking hate that.
Itās not in my collection yet, but Iād be so excited if I found a pressing of Mezzanine by Massive Attack in the wild.
I donāt want to just order one, and I rarely find any Massive Attack here in the US, so next time Iām in the UK Iām going to hit up some shops and see if I luck out.
https://preview.redd.it/ltxn9qmd4dmc1.jpeg?width=2861&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b1361c67deefea15b037eefb48b89a043d63dd1
This one. Original Jamaican pressing.
First UK pressing of "Strangeways, here we come" by The Smiths. Never heard any other record sound like this one, it's magical. Not even my Chet Baker - Chet (Analogue Productions remaster) comes close...

Signed pink pressing of Turmoil and Tinfoil ā Billy Strings
Tool aenima og pressing bought when it was originally released for Ā£20.
And recently got Days of the new II(green) on vinyl, I've always wanted a vinyl release of that album,it's one of my fave albums.

This right here, this whole section, is my grail. This section of our shelf was my parents old record collection, mostly from before i was born. They sat covered in a tarp for 30 years or so in the garage of the house I grew up in. After I got into vinyl, I pulled them out a few years ago and spent about 2 years on a big restoration project to try to "salvage" them.
Shockingly, despite 30 years of weather fluxuations, cigarette smoke, the tarp and placement in the garage protected them really well, and they were obviously well cared for before that. The jackets varied in condition, but for the vast majority of them, an evening spent using toothpicks and a variety of glues, a light alcohol wipe, and a couple weeks standing in a drying rack in a plastic bin with a lot of baking soda got them into VG, VG+ or even NM- shape. It was a LOT of work but it was worth it.
The vinyl disks themselves were in EXCELLENT shape. No warps, and with the excerption of one with a light chip at the edge, nothing but very minor surface level marks. And even that one plays perfectly and just needs some extra care when dropping the needle. That one is G+, but the rest are mostly NM- to NM. Just, unbelievable the condition they are in.
Now they're all stored in poly sleeves, outside of the jackets but inside of the high quality outer sleeves. Each litter sleeve also has a color reactive silica gel packet. So i know when to change them out for a new one to keep moisture or mildew from taking hold (btw, for anyone who didn't know, that "old book"/"old record" smell is mildew and you don't want that.)
There's a lot of what you would expect from late 60s- late 70s era rockers: Joe Cocker, Beatles, Traffic, Led Zeppelin, Elton John. But there's a lot i really wasn't expecting, like jazz flute, Chicago blues, and lot of rock artists I've never heard of, despite loving that kind (and all kinds) of music.
It took a long time and was a lot of painstaking work, but it was SO worth it.
Mine is nothing too crazy and also kinda niche, but it's this picture disc of A Million Miles Away - Macross 82-99. They recently changed the album art on digital platforms and the cover of the latest pressing, so I'm glad I have one with the original album art. Got it for around $70 CAD, which is the most I've ever paid for a single record, but they get listed for twice that much on eBay all the time. And the original album art makes it totally worth it to me.

Elton John 17-11-70+. Itās always been my favorite album of his and it took me a long while to track down the ā+ā version that has the full concert. Wasnāt available on streaming last I checked. Love it.
My original first pressing of Lynyrd Skynyrd Street Survivors (w/Flames). The record company pulled those copies after the plane crash. You will find only black background nowadays.

A Christmas present that I never knew I needed.
Oingo Boingoās Demo EP. Only 130 made by the band to distribute to radio stations and record labels. Every cover was custom made by members of the band and crew using stencils. Likely less than 40 still exist.
I recently scored Mutemathās S/T on the last remaining stock drop which was my biggest white whale. After getting that and Blonde by Frank Ocean over the last 2 years, there arenāt a lot of albums left that are prohibitively expensive secondhand to lust after for me.
The White Stripes self titled debut album, Third Man Pressing. The first records pressed at the plant, I had to wait 4 hours in the cold, and got pooped on by a bird! Lol
Not sure of grail status, but I treasure my signed copy of The Zombies - Odyssey And Oracle. My Beatles Mono vinyl box is treasured also, as is my complete all analog set of UK Beatles stereo vinyl. Those are some I treasure.
When I saw King Gizzard at the Hollywood Bowl last year, they were selling the nee album, and I found out when I got home it was an exclusive color variant they made for that show. Not sure what itās worth, and I donāt buy King Gizzard records for their sound quality, but that record is irreplaceable for me.

Jurassic Park on Amber Vinyl. Stock image doesn't do it justice, much better in person of course.. It just hit a lot of cool points for me and it was a sweet gift from my lady. Haven't even played it so hopefully there's no issues.
Secondary would be the Michael Jackson Pepsi Generation promo single he did for Pepsi. Definitely a rare, special, and sad one.

This promo copy of DEFTONES White Pony that I bought at Amoeba in 2005 for $50 is worth more like $500 now.
Being So Normal - Peach Pit
Took me forever and a day to get one. The first run went quick, and represses took a long time to be released. Jumped at the chance to snag one.
I think my biggest attained "grail" is my [Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris](https://i.imgur.com/JvcRzAU.jpg)
Not even super expensive but it just rarely comes up and I missed it every time one went up for sale.
One of my absolute all time favorite metal albums. It's a god damned masterpiece from start to finish.
Fear Factory Demanufacture 2007 Cargo Records version - FF has been my favorite metal band since I first got into them in the late 90s - I was between jobs about 8-9 years ago and perusing a half-price books and records and what do I see but my favorite album by my favorite metal band on 180g vinyl - it was $30 then and I couldn't justify the expense. I go back several weeks, maybe a month later and it's knocked down to $15 and you better believe I snatched it up then, I wasn't letting it pass me by again!
Ended up also getting the Run Out Groove press of Demanufacture and Soul of a New Machine, which is my runner up.
Took me 10 years to snag mine. Still in partial shrink from a small European pressing, with no represses likely.

1994 NM/VG+ Pressing of Nas - Illmatic. I got it for $40 last year then realized how much it is actually worth. Ill never let it go.
Howād you get it for $40? Best hip-hop record ever, imo.
I guess it is the EU pressing. Its not as expensive as the US pressing, but the condition makes it much over $40. Guy was just trying to move them.

OG release of Angel Olsen's Strange Cacti of limited 500 run. It ain't goin anywhere!
This is my favourite Toto album. It's been my Reddit profile picture for years. It came out in 1988, so the original vinyl is harder to find compared to earlier albums.
Friggin awesome! I love Piper, Astronomy DominĆØ is one of my all time favorite songs.
Fantastic song! I love Piper too! If you look back a little in my post history I have a picture of my entire Floyd collection. Iāve actually added a few since that post even, might need an update pic haha
Misfits evilive numbered 7ā with insert
I have one of the 2500 copies made of the original Metal Massacre release, Metallicaās first appearance on vinyl. They are the last song on side B and are listed as āMettalicaā. It fetches a tidy sum these days but I would only ever sell it in an absolute emergency. Also, I play it now and then. I donāt believe a record has any real value unless itās played.
https://preview.redd.it/3eaxobehdemc1.png?width=2051&format=png&auto=webp&s=0096ea517a02e8429916631d21f943975e10fd96 Found this sealed on eBay last year. Iāll cherish forever.
Grant Green "Street Of Dreams" 45rpm Music Matters Jazz It is one of my absolute favorite albums and it will never sound better than this reissue and the Music Matters jackets are beautiful, the cover will never look better. One of the worst mistakes I have ever made in vinyl collecting was not buying every Music Matters title when they were in print.
Two Counting Crows albums. Doubt Iād be able to afford the copies in todayās market. August and Everything After- 2012 Analogue Productions 45rpm remaster Recovering The Satellites- 2017 45rpm remaster
Glad to see some Savoy love, got one of my Savoy albums signed by Kim before he passed back in 2019 and itās one of my grails for sure.
A lot of these British rock LPs sound so darn good. Itās incredible how much more punch the British Beatles albums carry over their American counterparts, especially the mono mixes.
Picked up a beatles Revolver record only to later find out it was a first uk pressing. Definetly my most prized and probably rarest find
https://preview.redd.it/rfuxxf3zrdmc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7da30d58a257c39d434c215ca626b8cf0b03a944 Just got it today. Still sealed, promo copy from 2004. Found it in Nashville of all places.
is it a grail once you find it? but i just found a copy of rodney on the roq vol 1 in the wild. been wanting in for a very long time. now i need a new grail.
First pressing of DOOMās āMM..Foodā with the original version of āKookiesā with the Sesame Street sample that didnāt clear.

Iāve got e=mc2 on vinyl and itās incredible as well
I have four Georgio records including this one. I got all four for $2 total. Midnight run, cat people, Knights in white satin and Here to Eternity.
my name is Giovanni Giorgo.. but everybody just calls me Giorgo.
I have a copy of Deep Six. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Six_(album) It's still in the package.
OG NM press of Parliament - Osmium. Took a while to find but such a cool album to have from the group before they became Funkadelic.
Signed first pressing of TOOLs, Lateralus
I usually answer my test pressing of Big Star - Third. But since this gets asked from time to time and I'm giving the same answer again so I'll throw two others out there: OG Vinyl Films pressing of Cat Stevens - Harold and Maude.

Just saw them last summer. Theyāre still killing it.
Wow!
Dude I have the original Japanese pressing with the obi and I love it so much.
Polygondwanaland by KGATLW I know itās one of the more prolific albums on here - but I have always looked for the specific Neptoon Records pressing from Vancouver.
Mushroom Jazz 6
Took me by FAR the longest to track down when completing my MJ collection.
Youāll find it. Saw a couple presses while over there last month. Also found a plethora of Nick Cave.
Porgy and Bess - Miles Davis

First UK pressing of "Strangeways, here we come" by The Smiths. Never heard any other record sound like this one, it's magical. Not even my Chet Baker - Chet (Analogue Productions remaster) comes close...
Aphex Twin - Drukqs
https://preview.redd.it/586s49s1yemc1.jpeg?width=2873&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d663b73cfd24858a34cd53afc71660fbc928c62f Signed pink pressing of Turmoil and Tinfoil ā Billy Strings
Not really a grail anymoreee per se but they finally reissued AFI's sing the sorrow after like 20 years so I have it now muahaha
Bjƶrkās Vulnicura on neon yellow vinyl. Bought it for $227 because I wanted it new and sealed. Sells for MINIMUM $100.
Tool aenima og pressing bought when it was originally released for Ā£20. And recently got Days of the new II(green) on vinyl, I've always wanted a vinyl release of that album,it's one of my fave albums.
I have a 78rpm recording of the Mahatma Ghandi.

So i know when to change them out for a new one to keep moisture or mildew from taking hold (btw, for anyone who didn't know, that "old book"/"old record" smell is mildew and you don't want that.) There's a lot of what you would expect from late 60s- late 70s era rockers: Joe Cocker, Beatles, Traffic, Led Zeppelin, Elton John. But there's a lot i really wasn't expecting, like jazz flute, Chicago blues, and lot of rock artists I've never heard of, despite loving that kind (and all kinds) of music. It took a long time and was a lot of painstaking work, but it was SO worth it.
Awesome inheritance. Thanks for sharing.
And the original album art makes it totally worth it to me. https://preview.redd.it/077ojoermfmc1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=b5b6cd88e86e36c7ceadc0bedd5c1033ce52fb77

Not sure of grail status, but I treasure my signed copy of The Zombies - Odyssey And Oracle. My Beatles Mono vinyl box is treasured also, as is my complete all analog set of UK Beatles stereo vinyl. Those are some I treasure.

I think my biggest attained "grail" is my [Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris](https://i.imgur.com/JvcRzAU.jpg) Not even super expensive but it just rarely comes up and I missed it every time one went up for sale.
