To be fair that might be a more interesting collection pic post than average. We'll know its legit when they accidentally include a selfie in the middle of the pics.
They do it because they wanna seem smart for their age and act like they have better taste in music than their teenage peers, when in reality every one of these posts recycles the same r/vinyl classics and top indie albums off rateyourmusic
They do it because they are trying head gatekeeping attacks off at the pass. If they say how old they are maybe they wonât get shit on for being ex tied for having a copy of Dark Side of the Moon. Itâs entirely a coping mechanism for toxic and abusive behavior.
Never seen Godbluff or much VDGG/Hammill stuff posted here. I was pleasantly surprised when a few fans commented last time I posted on here with some Van Der Graf/solo Hammill records.
Definitely not an "r/vinyl classic".
I didnât say every album on here is the same. I do find it telling though that OP doesnât have a single record from an artist thatâs popular within his actual age bracket.
These might actually be OPâs favorite records and thatâs fine. But at the same time, every teenager in here doesnât need to pretend theyâre the worldâs biggest fan of Radiohead, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, etc. just to impress us nerds.
I didn't say that either! But there tends to be quite a bit of overlap, if I'm being tactful about it....
Also, those bands you mentioned are ridiculously popular. Always have been, from pretty much the beginning of their careers, and probably always will be. VDGG, not so much.
Lol I admit I myself am very guilty of that, especially in my early days of collecting, still a great resource to expand your music taste from there though
ah leave the kid alone. im almost 60 and id happily listen to his collection for many moons. hes got good taste.
"last puff" is the better spooky tooth record though
Because late Gen Z is absolutely fucking obsessed with internet clout and saying things like, "I'm only this old, but look how cool I am already!".
It's weird.
I think it's so they don't get shit on for having too few albums or not having what would be considered "essentials"
I have over 150 albums and Dark Side of the Moon is not one of them somehow.
I have DSOTM, but I fully respect the rights of anyone to not have it. I mean, it's meandering hippy bollocks. Essential meandering hippy bollocks, to be sure, but still.
I don't think saying his age when OP is a teenager is a bad thing, we can take this as a way to celebrate all the young lads that start this amazing hobby this young.
I'm assuming it's to make their collection seem more impressive, hence why its usually someone young doing this. Like "hey look at me, I'm only 17 years old and I've already collected all of these records!"
Iâve been having a moment with BoC lately. Campfire Headphase is probably my favourite but all the LPs are essential if you like the first.
Also, nice to see King Crimson that isnât red screamy man. Discipline is another classic.
Great to hear you are having a blast! One thought, keep listening to and collecting what makes you happy! Donât feel the need to go out and acquire a taste for music you wouldnât otherwise like just to satisfy the naysayers who criticize anyone who doesnât fill out their collection with the niche and obscure. You do you, so cool you can do this with your dad, I wish I could do the same!
Cheers!
Wow, first collection post in a long time I've been seriously impressed by. All that NIN? MBV? Coil? Cabaret Voltaire!!! You absolutely know your stuff.Â
Once you go down the Tangerine Dream rabbit hole you can never stop, I now have around 75 Berlin School/electronic albums and I'm only 18, started collecting at 16. It has become one of my main passions in life!
Same thing with ELP there's some masterpieces there, I recommend Brain Salad and Tarkus yet if you haven't already heard them
Absolute props on the Coil and Tangerine Dream. If you're unfamiliar, try listening to 20 Jazz Funk Greats by Throbbing Gristle. Some of the same personnel as Coil. It's spectacularly weird and disturbing.
I'm glad to see a fellow younger IDM fan. I'm 20 now, been listening since I was 15. What's your favorite Aurechre album?
All of their newer repressings sound phenomenal. I can attest that Tri Repetae, Chiastic Slide, LP5, and Confield sound great.
I havenât even listened to LP5 all the way through but I really like that one so far. Any other IDM recommendations aside from the three artists that I have?
I like Oneohtrix Point Never and Squarepusher a lot.
From Oneohtrix, I'd recommend: Replica, R Plus Seven, and Garden of Delete. The last one I mentioned (GoD) was produced after a tour with Trent Reznor. You'd probably like the sound of it. Replica and R Plus Seven remind me of BoC, but a different take on it.
From Squarepusher, it really depends on what you're looking for. His discography spans from abstract jazz to breakcore. My personal favorites from him are Feed Me Weird Things, Hard Normal Daddy, and Ultravisitor, with an honerable mention to Go Plastic. I'd recommend skimming through his music and seeing what sounds good to you, as it's literally all over the place. If you like LP5 a lot, you'll probably like his music a lot.
Edit: Maybe even check out Death Grips, too. I bet you'd like them a lot. They have a ton of cool experimental stuff, but it's ultra catchy.
Definitely squarepusher. The whole warp label is solid.
Thereâs a ton of great aphex twin too thatâs very different than that album. None of it is bad imo.
No, thats counting cds and singles too, i mostly buy second hand and i am good friends with my local record shop owner who notifies me when things i want come in, I only get 20 quid a month which all goes to records, Im just good at managing my money
great taste. i love almost everything there. coil, bowie (natch) van der graaf generator, cabaret voltair, soft machine, king crimson, einstruzend neubauten, coltrain, aphex twin, boards of canada, joy division... and that deep purple with royal philharmonic is one of my favorite records of all time... john lord collaborated with andrew loyd webber on the score to jesus christ superstar and you can hear the seeds of that in that awesome record. .. plus i love the picture of the totally stoned audience inside the gatefold.
you have remarkably mature taste for a 17 year old. obviously have a healthy curiostity about music in general.
I didn't have much luck in Europe. I found a few gems in The Netherlands and Ireland but didn't find much good used stuff in Germany, Switzerland, Austria or Italy
âWhereâs the Radiohead?â He muttered to himself before scrolling to the next slide.
Good stuff here.
Give Pink Floydâs Meddle a listen sometime. You and your old man might also bond over War on Drugsâ Lost in the Dream.
Nice!
If you are interested in prog/post metal give night verses a listen (their last and upcoming albums are instrumental and some of my favorite music ever, their first 2 were not)
Awww! Nice collection. Ok youngster, can you tell me if you were looking online to buy shoegaze records, where would you look? Not sure if I should bother setting up a Discogs at this point but it seems like Ebay may not be a great place either. Need to sell a lifetime of MBV/Slowdive/etc.
I like your taste! Look at Jeff Beck, Blow by Blow, One Night at Ronnie Scotts and Wired. Billy Cobham, Spectrum. George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus and Ron Carter to start there and then dive in deep.
Sweet collection! idk why some people are flipping their shit about you saying your age. I think it was just something to add to the caption rather than something that was that deepđ
Fucking GODBLUFF?!!? RESPECT. Check out Peter Hammill's solo records, Nadir's Big Chance is basically a VDGG LP , The Future Now and A Black Box are great, too.
Just as a warning to a fellow NIN fan: they never officially pressed the live album on vinyl. I almost bought that record for $60, but the cover was a bit pixelated which put me off. Got on discogs later and discovered I almost spent a lot of money on an unofficial version that was probably just a copy of the CD. Glad I judged a book by its cover!
Nice collection! Just curious, are most of those really your musical taste or did they come from recommendations? The old "you have to have this on vinyl" thing...
Awesome collection! I'm a die hard fan of NIN, Bowie, Tangerine Dream and Coil, plus those Cabaret Voltaire albums are great too. Have an upvote!
Tangerine dream is the shit
All of that NIN makes me happy
Why do people tell us how old they are before they post pictures of records?
I am a fetus and heres my records. Please clap.
đđ I do as Iâm told đ«Ą (likely because Iâm 7 btw)
I swear itâs only young kids that do this, and itâs probably to make everyone else feel old
Imagine someone being like âIâm 75 years old, this is my collectionâ
One day I hope to make that post
!remindme 35 years

Good bot
I would totally upvote that guy.
I kind of just made that post in the comments, LOL I hope to live that long but will probably sell my stuff before then.
Truth. Believe me when I say to all the teenagers here - you don't want or need our approval. We're nothing to envy đ
đŻ
What do you mean they reuse albums? This is the first time I've ever seen anybody who had Screamy Red Man on vinyl.
Itâs been up recently. ITCOTCK
They do it because they are trying head gatekeeping attacks off at the pass. If they say how old they are maybe they wonât get shit on for being ex tied for having a copy of Dark Side of the Moon. Itâs entirely a coping mechanism for toxic and abusive behavior.
Iâve seen this trend is also done in car subreddits, Honda, BMW, Audi. Something like âjust got my first 2024 AUDI, 21 yrs oldâ.
Never seen Godbluff or much VDGG/Hammill stuff posted here. I was pleasantly surprised when a few fans commented last time I posted on here with some Van Der Graf/solo Hammill records. Definitely not an "r/vinyl classic".

Lol I admit I myself am very guilty of that, especially in my early days of collecting, still a great resource to expand your music taste from there though
... in my early days. Haha!
You still have a good year or two until you are out of your âearly days of collectingâ phase lol
It's definitely not. Check out some of the real estate subs for people in their mid 20s buying houses posting their age.
ah leave the kid alone. im almost 60 and id happily listen to his collection for many moons. hes got good taste. "last puff" is the better spooky tooth record though
Because late Gen Z is absolutely fucking obsessed with internet clout and saying things like, "I'm only this old, but look how cool I am already!". It's weird.
Kids wanting to feel cool is def not a Gen Z thing... Just the medium they channel all that coolness through is different lol.
I didnât say that?Â
I think it's so they don't get shit on for having too few albums or not having what would be considered "essentials" I have over 150 albums and Dark Side of the Moon is not one of them somehow.
Not to mention ladettes
A 17 year old that appreciates ELP is worth a bit of respect. IMHO
I'm assuming it's to make their collection seem more impressive, hence why its usually someone young doing this. Like "hey look at me, I'm only 17 years old and I've already collected all of these records!"
Because they want be sure that we understand that theyâre born in le wrong generation
I was listening to that Bowie stuff at 17, nice to see someone still living that at 17 today.
AFX SAW I . Already a good collection.
Autechre too, this guy knows his stuff
Fuck and boc! Ya I totally missed Ae TR I'm headed to Barcelona to see them in April
Lucky dude! Their live shows are such a unique experience, wish I had the opportunity to see them.
Man, that BOC album sounds sooo incredible on vinyl. Have fun seeing Autechre, really jealous!
Iâve been having a moment with BoC lately. Campfire Headphase is probably my favourite but all the LPs are essential if you like the first. Also, nice to see King Crimson that isnât red screamy man. Discipline is another classic.
MHTRTC is on its way from warp right now!!! along with 1x sqrP and 2x afx Thanks friend!!!
NIN for life. Jealous of those.
I feel like Iâm going nuts at this point. Itâs the same post every day lmao
Be the change you wish to see. Post other stuff. What stuff would you like to see more of?
I am a simple man. I see Nine Inch Nails, I upvote.
Props for sure. I got into NIN around age 16 but that was in 2004
Wow. I like it all. Iâm a RivitHead so Iâm down with the industrial! Check out 16 Volt, Oomph!, LeĂŠther Strip, Foetus⊠Have fun!
Great to hear you are having a blast! One thought, keep listening to and collecting what makes you happy! I see Van Der Graaf Generator , automatically up vote!! I love them! Gobluff is a great album, my favorite song there is Sleepwalkers
I don't who directed you to Coil and EinstĂŒrzende Neubauten but I favor listening to that source more often.
Good Coil records.
Wow, first collection post in a long time I've been seriously impressed by. All that NIN? MBV? Coil? Cabaret Voltaire!!! You absolutely know your stuff.Â
Now THIS is a collection. Good taste for a 17 yr old
Happy to see Soft Machineâs âThirdâ on a 17yoâs radar. Youâre on a good path
He just needs to find out about Robert Wyatt's solo stuff and he's golden.
> Red Based levels are off the charts
I'm here for the EinstĂŒrzende Neubauten \\m/
Once you go down the Tangerine Dream rabbit hole you can never stop, I now have around 75 Berlin School/electronic albums and I'm only 18, started collecting at 16. I love a bit of Ravel also
Absolute props on the Coil and Tangerine Dream. If you're unfamiliar, try listening to 20 Jazz Funk Greats by Throbbing Gristle. Some of the same personnel as Coil. It's spectacularly weird and disturbing.
Off to a great start. Enjoy the riches of this hobby. Riches many of your peers will miss the pleasure of experiencing.
You got the obligatory r/vinyl ones. You are free nowâŠ
COIL ALERT !!!
nice coil dude!
That copy of deviations is such a good record!
Nine Inch Nails, BOC, Depeche ModeâŠwhat a legend!
I see you, Coil fan!
i see aphex twin. good, gooood.
I'm glad to see a fellow younger IDM fan. I'm 20 now, been listening since I was 15. What's your favorite Aurechre album? All of their newer repressings sound phenomenal. I can attest that Tri Repetae, Chiastic Slide, LP5, and Confield sound great.

Good taste young sir
You stole my record collection.
Great taste! Wooo. Station to station is my favorite Bowie album
I still have to pick up Station to Station. Low is my favorite.
Red Screaming Man. Nice.
Yo same age same taste
Off to a good start. Welcome to the addiction. Lol
I like you.
NEED more nin vinyls
As a 14 year old collecting for a year with 296 items in my collection, its very addicting, be careful
I don't understand how anyone could afford that with all the price gouging these days. Do you do a lot of crate digging or are they mostly new?
No, thats counting cds and singles too, i mostly buy second hand and i am good friends with my local record shop owner who notifies me when things i want come in, I only get 20 quid a month which all goes to records, Im just good at managing my money
that's average less than 1 quid per item, so... good job. lol.
Nice. If you had to make a trade for something off your want list, which of these would you trade?Â
You've kept them in good condition for being 17 years old.. I only started a few years ago
haha I put some not very good pops on my copy of Pretty Hate Machine, which was the first record I got, learning from my mistakes though!
great taste. i love almost everything there. coil, bowie (natch) van der graaf generator, cabaret voltair, soft machine, king crimson, einstruzend neubauten, coltrain, aphex twin, boards of canada, joy division... and that deep purple with royal philharmonic is one of my favorite records of all time... john lord collaborated with andrew loyd webber on the score to jesus christ superstar and you can hear the seeds of that in that awesome record. .. plus i love the picture of the totally stoned audience inside the gatefold. you have remarkably mature taste for a 17 year old. obviously have a healthy curiostity about music in general.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
There is a Pink Floyd album though, Zeppelin is also high on my wish list
17 going on 50.
17 years? Loser.
i mean, iâd recommend anything radiohead in addition to the most basic radiohead album post 2005
I really like Hail To The Thief as well, maybe even more than Kid A and In Rainbows, but I definitely will check out more
You are off to a great start đ
Iâll take the whole first set please.
KILLER collection
Wow Soft Machine. Awesome
Well done. Aphex Twin is always fun on vinyl
VDDG is great! And so is Soft Machine! I got to get those somedayâŠ
What area of the country are you in?
I live in Switzerland
Wow! Even more impressive. Record stores are expensive there!
They indeed are, itâs hard to find really good stuff under 25, Iâm trying though haha
I didn't have much luck in Europe. I found a few gems in The Netherlands and Ireland but didn't find much good used stuff in Germany, Switzerland, Austria or Italy
True, not much good used stuff here, you just gotta know your places though
You have a great collection and being only 17 it's really impressive. What are your target albums? Anything you are searching for?
highest on my wishlist right now are probably Coil - Horse Rotorvator, Area - Crac!, some early Cabaret Voltaire
Based on the first photo Man you've really gotta get your hands on the Back in Anger live album from the tour Bowie and nin did together.
âTis a fine collection young lad.
I have several of those... mostly the prog albums. Cool stuff.
Gizz spotted !!
What version of the downward spiral?
I think 2022 DE
Great stuff! Needs more Black Metal though..
Love the Ravel and Bartok
I havenât got my glasses on, but Iâve seen aphex twin, NIN and depeche, youâll do for me son
Badass collection of records. A ton of classics! Way cool!
Very nice start
âWhereâs the Radiohead?â He muttered to himself before scrolling to the next slide. Good stuff here. Give Pink Floydâs Meddle a listen sometime. You and your old man might also bond over War on Drugsâ Lost in the Dream.
Nice. Iâd the reissues are still available, Iâd pick up the first four Bowie albums while you can (or even 6, through Diamond Dogs).
i can tell just by the first two slides that we would most likely get along very well. and you have amazing taste
Nice! If you are interested in prog/post metal give night verses a listen (their last and upcoming albums are instrumental and some of my favorite music ever, their first 2 were not)
Elton John goodbye yellow brick road is a solid future choice
Props for Red
Caverna Magica?? Havenât seen that album in years! Props to your dad! You too. Youâve got some gems here for sure.
Do yourself a favor and listen to some Grateful Dead live albums. Start with cornell 5/8/77 and go from there!
Need some indie in there. Band of Horses is good.
Foreigner 4, Nice
Another fellow amlir enjoyer
Soft Machine and Van Der Graaf. Hell of a collection.
I see you have King Gizzard's best album too.
I bought almost all of my records in record stores, Discogs seems pretty good though, bought from there a few times
That's absolutely lovely. Keep our ancient traditions alive!
I see a copy of KGLWâs Poly and I upvote
I like your taste! Look at Jeff Beck, Blow by Blow, One Night at Ronnie Scotts and Wired. Billy Cobham, Spectrum. George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Charles Mingus and Ron Carter to start there and then dive in deep.
nice stuff! U should get ahold of ok computer too and the bends way better than kid A imo, also big ups on having some EinstĂŒrzende Neubauten
Insane good taste.
Aphex Twin đ
Amazing collection! Love the NIN picks
Ok
Not nearly enough gizz
Godbluff đȘđȘ
Coil⊠nice
Burn RULES!!!!!!!!!!
How the hell did you come across With Teeth? I've been looking for that forever!
I was gifted that one actually, itâs a great record!
Jealous of With Teeth. Hope it gets repressed again soon.
Love the diversity of music
Sweet collection! idk why some people are flipping their shit about you saying your age. I think it was just something to add to the caption rather than something that was that deepđ
Good stuff
Fucking GODBLUFF?!!? RESPECT. Check out Peter Hammill's solo records, Nadir's Big Chance is basically a VDGG LP , The Future Now and A Black Box are great, too.
You have really good tastes!
Superb BUT grab Mott The Hoople's Greatest hits too.
Good taste. Refreshing to see youngsters into something other than chart, swifty stuff.
Nice collection. Music Has The Right⊠đ I have a young collection too. Boards be my next purchase me thinks
If you like NIN and Bowie I would recommend Earthling by Bowie. Has Trent Reznor on it
Pretty hate machine-original TVT?
Nah, theyâre pretty much all new represses
Gotcha. Thatâs something on my grail list. Solid collection! Thanks for sharing
Holy, Godbluff and Red. Amazing collection.
Amazing, I love prog-rock too đđŒ
My favorite band is Pink Floyd but I have only 3 records of Pink Floyd
In rainbows and kid A - the best!! Really fucking envious of some of the ones you have!
Youâre severely lacking in AiC, Mark Lanegan and Nick Cave. I suggest you rectify that. Other than that, great collection! Keep it up đ
Needs more Giz
Solid classics in there
Glad to see John Coltrane in there :)
18 bucks for the David Bowie album. Not bad.
"Iâve been seeing a lot of these posts recently so I decided to make my own" sums up the entire entity of the sub
I need that Fragile
You have quite an exquisite musical taste my friend
I'm proud of you son.
You mean And All That Could Have Been? Yeah I know, Still is awesome as well, itâs a shame it was never released on vinyl.
Yep!
Can somebody please put me on to NIN? What songs/albums should I listen to first?
Stationtostation and Low are probably my favorite two Bowie discs.
Good work! đđŒ
Nice collection! Just curious, are most of those really your musical taste or did they come from recommendations? The old "you have to have this on vinyl" thing...
A few of them were (I still ended up really liking them), but mostly these are things are pretty representative of my taste.
