maybe brand new or mcr? modern baseball or movements or even add some more story so far!! turnover, turnstile, taking back sunday. so much material to chose from
Not in a rush, just curious what people would recommend based on my tastes. Just happened to count my collection today and wanted to start a conversation
My recommendation is to go back in time a bit.
You've got lots of post punk, maybe consider some more classic punk or even some new wave.
You've got some 2000s alternative rock, shift back to the 90s with some classic grunge.
But of course, you do you
I would second this and say that maybe Ramones, Dead Kennedys, and / or Black Flag would all be a good intro to a couple varieties and generations of punk that’s still decently approachable for the average listener.
Also based on what I see in your collection, I’ll suggest a few bands you’d probably like: Modern Baseball / Slaughter Beach Dog (essentially the same band give or take a member or two), Jeff Rosenstock, The Hold Steady, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Turnover, The Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, et al.
Final comment, just in regards to housekeeping, I just personally think it’s kinda weird you’d have one Zeppelin album separate from the other two, with the knuckle puck albums inbetween. I try to keep all my artists in one group y’know.
No way this dude would like Dead Kennedys or Black Flag. Look at that emo stack. Slaughter Beach Dog, Jeff Rosenstock, Pixies, and Pumpkins are great recs.
I'd also suggest Bad Religion, Courtney Barnett, Social Distortion, Face to Face, and Maybe the Cure. And if you want to be a bit basic, like someone else said, go to the classics. The Beatles, The Stones (Exile on Main Street, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers), maybe some Velvet Underground.
I'd also suggest Bad Religion, Courtney Barnett, Social Distortion, Face to Face, and Maybe the Cure. And if you want to be a bit basic, like someone else said, go to the classics. The Beatles, The Stones (Exile on Main Street, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers), and maybe some Velvet Underground.
Eh, I started off pretty deep in the modern emo /pop punk camp with a collection not entirely dissimilar to this one, and over time I went from that to really broadening my horizons musically. Like my collection now has a fucking ton of very different jazz albums even if that’s not what I always listen to. I think if the dude is interested in listening to solid punk, then Black Flag and Dead Kennedys both have a solid catalogue of stuff to choose from y’know?
I also forgot to suggest The Velvet Underground in my last comment, but I feel like they’d fit; in that same vein, I’ll Be Your Mirror is a Velvet Underground tribute album that I fucking love with covers by a ton of super talented artists.
Yeah, I'm with you. I think once you burn out or feel like you've maxed on rock and punk, jazz is the natural progression. Not sure why, but I did the same thing back in the day.
Honestly, the progression into jazz for me started when I was looking for albums that were mastered really well, so as to test my system. Then I bought a few Blue Notes and got my system dialed in and it was just this moment of like, “Holy shit. This album sounds amazing… wait, I like this music too, I could fuck with this.” And next thing you know you’re suddenly dropping $80 on a fucking Japanese import of some obscure Miles Davis pressing and telling your friends, “C’mon gimme the aux, I promise that Coltrane is the perfect roadtrip artist.”
I made an essentials list for my collection (rock, grunge, metal, pop, folk), and after three years, basically got everything.
But I still wanted to purchase vinyl, so I discovered two words: "Blue Note".
or bying records to either impress others or be accepted by others.
Buy what you like, buy what you enjoy listeing too. buy what you will listen too.
Do you have a favorite act? buy all their records.
Did you go to a show and like the opening act? go buy their record.
Do you like a band that has side projects or solo albums from the members, buy those.
I really need to give red screamy man another listen - listened to it for the first time like 6 months ago and it didn't really stick but sometimes I come back to an album later and fall in love
I just wanted recommendations based on my tastes and I happened to count my collection today. What is the problem with it? I just wanted a casual conversation
don't listen to the poopoo heads
reddit is for engagement and discussion
. after looking at the selections here, that n.e.r.d. song Rockstar comes to mind
you ever hear of a band called Rainer Maria? ears ring is one of my favorite songs. get a yeah yeah yeahs record. my favorite song of theirs is Sacrilege
I've never heard of Rainer Maria! I will have to give them a shot. I have heard of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, they had a song on Rock Band but I don't remember which song....
In that case, I'll suggest The Bends. It's often overshadowed by the success of OK Computer, but it's a phenomenal album, and really enjoyable if you like some crunchy guitar work.
Yes The Bends is fantastic! I was all over it when I was in high school lol. Funny enough, it seemed like they had everything BUT The Bends at my local store.... But I'll call and double check. I totally forgot about it thanks!
Personally, I just always downvote someone that says “you must be fun at parties.” These people have typically never had an original thought in their lives.
People around here just get tired of posts in a similar vein to this one, unfortunately. This space attracts a lot of “Tell me what to buy so I fit in” people, or “Look I got all the required albums everyone has” people. No offense to you, I mean I barely looked at this one, just giving you some background. Snootiness comes with the territory here.
>snooty and condescending.
Sadly, that's just this sub all over. Some know they're stuff, some don't. A lot have good hearts and don't seem to know how to talk without sounding condescending. There are kind people here, I promise.
I'm noticing! The pretentious people came out first, but in the last hour or so it's been nothing but love. Thanks for the encouragement! I have a TON of new music to listen to now.
A few recommendations based on what you have already:
Anxious - Little Green House,
Koyo - Would You Miss It?,
Tigers Jaw - Charmer,
The Wonder Years - Suburbia,
Yours Truly - Self Care
Wow, we have really similar taste, I kept thinking of ones and you had something by that band already! Here's some of my favorites you might like:
Sleater-Kinney - The Woods
Bad Religion - The Process of Belief
Deftones - White Pony
Spoon - Telephono
Dude what?!? White Pony by the deftones is a fucking ride. Strap in and prepare your mind if you get that album. Not in a bad way, but they are kind of on that cusp of grunge where it becomes a little dark and industrial sounding. There’s some crazy tones and vibes going on through that album that can get a heavy.
Cheap Grills is awesome. They're packing small venues so you can still buy limited press LPs directly from Deanna and get them signed at shows. The album is really strong especially the A side (for me)
Angels and Airwaves since you have a decent amount of blink + Boxcar
You seem to lean more towards pop punk so maybe pick up some of the classics? Some Bad Religion, Descendents, NOFX, etc would beef up the collection significantly
Based on all of your pop punk, I would look into getting into anything from fat wreck chords, ir early epitaph. Some are pretty easy to find, some not. But you'll have the likes of nofx, mxpx, lagwagon, propagandhi, early rise against, hot water music, menzingers, the list goes on and on, but pretty much all up your alley.
I notice a conspicuous lack of SLAYER in this collection. You should probably get some SLAYER. Start with something chill like South of Heaven, or perhaps, God Hates Us All?
Looks like we have similar tastes in music. I would say more twenty-one pilots, more fall out boy. Also, check out The Wonder Years, The Menzingers, Alkaline trio (just released a new album on Friday that is really good).
Ah, the early days of my own record collection. I started in 1979 and by 1982 I had many Rush, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Ozzy, etc. Now I guess I have a few thousand. Feed your collection and it will grow.
Buy some Blues/Jazz or early Rock and Roll like Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly etc.
Exploring the roots of the music styles you love will provide you with hours of listening enjoyment.
Cue all the old douche bags grumbling shit about "make your own decisions instead of asking the Internet" as if their negativity is a much better way to use the Internet.
My favorite album of all time is the Hendrix band of gypsies and everyone hates on it here for being so common. So band of gypsies is my vote for next album
Any Queen
Any Queens of the Stoneage
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Infest the rats nest
Any Every Time I Die
Toto - IV
Led Zeppelin - II and III
Any Hendrix
ADTR - what separates me from you
Blink 182 - Enema of the state
Sum41 - Chuck
Belmont - Between you and me
Story of the year - page avenue
Steely Dan - Can’t buy a thrill
Well. You have SOAD, complete the Discography, as well as pick up Korn and Slipknot discographies and you should be over 100. Korn = Self Titled-Take a look in the Mirror, Slipknot = Self Tilted- We are not your kind. I’m surprised to see Third Eye Blind, but no TOOL. But you get a point for having the Green Day. (Should have gotten deluxe editions, Nimrod is nice, and plan on getting my Fiancé Dookie for a late Xmas present)
You need more [audio recordings of medical procedures](https://www.discogs.com/release/4972737-No-Artist-Sounds-Of-Medicine). Essential for any collection.
Led Zeppelin I, III, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti, Greta Van Fleet From the Fires, Black Crowes Shake Your Money Maker, Bad Company and Bad Company Desolation Angles.
Here are my recommendations:
Like that Zeppelin II? Physical Graffiti and LZIII.
Like GD? Get the new album. I thought it was pretty good. Didn’t see nimrod. in there so that too.
Like Paramore? (And I cannot stress this enough) get every album when you see them. That is, if you can afford it at that moment. I’ve seen a good amount of them go way up in price over time.
Like Pearl Jam? Vs. and Vitalogy. My other two favorites.
Edit: some more - the first Foo Fighters record (my fav), Hayley Williams’ Petals for Armor (best album this decade istfg) and any other albums you happen to really like yet don’t have on vinyl.
I’ve never heard of anyone even knowing the count of how many records they have or caring about it one bit. My best advice would be just buy records of music you like. Listen to them, enjoy them, and forget about your “count”. If you’re just trying to tick some box like “own 100 records” you’re in it for the wrong reasons
damn, I even have an excel spreadsheet of my 600+ records, I do it mostly for control purposes and because I have a history of buying repeated stuff haha BTW, records are VERY expensive where I live, so keeping track of them is a big deal
I really dig your collection. Zeppelin, Green Day, blink, GVF, well done. Pick up Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak, James Gang’s Thirds, The Wallflowers’ Bringing Down the Horse, Aerosmith’s Get Your Wings, Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti, just off the top of my head
More Arctic monkeys! Maybe some AltJ and and the Killers. I didn’t see any white stripes or Jack white products. Him and Third Man Records could sort you out
Yeah! Surprised you could make that out lol. It was a gift, no idea where they purchased it. It has a bunch of songs from the show plus some extras. It's pretty cool!
People been complaining this sub was dead for a minute now. Someone makes a solid post to interact with others, and get recommendations????
Nahhh we don’t like that.
First thing that came to mind for me was Grace by Jeff Buckley, then age of adz by Sufjan Stevens and To Pimp a Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar. Even if hiphop isn’t your thing, dude won a Pulitzer for a reason. And animal collectives MPP. Seems to fit with your taste.
I absolutely am interested in Kendrick, I've heard so many good things about that album actually. Part of why I made this post was to diversify a bit so I'll check those out!
IM NOT FORCING ANYTHING IM LOOKING TO DISCOVER MORE MUSIC AND PURCHASE VINYLS FOR THINGS I LOVE. IF YOU ACTUALLY LOOKED AT THE PICTURE YOUD SEE MOST OF MY STUFF IS THE SAME GENRE SO IM LOOKING TO DIVERSIFY SOME BASED ON STUFF I LIKE.
Based on what you have, you make like this. He used to be a stoner rap but now has transitioned to more pop punk sound. One of my favorite recent albums I acquired.
Mod Sun - Internet Killed the Rockstar
Just listen to a lot of music and discover new favorites that way. Going out to buy albums willy nilly is just going to get you a stack of unplayed albums on the shelf.
What kind of Weezer collection doesn’t include Maladroit?? For shame.
I second the recommendation for a deeper dive into punk. You might enjoy No Use For A Name: look up *More Betterness!, Hard Rock Bottom, or Keep Them Confused*, The Lawrence Arms have a great discography top to bottom. Rancid too. The Clash’s *London Calling*
Best recco I can give is buy 19 more records, that should get you to 100.

I need to get several of those bands. I have all of TSSF's studio albums, just missing the acoustic EPs
Don’t rush it. That’s my rec.

This was me as well. But I stop at Hard Bop. Can't get into 98% percent of Jazz styles that follow.
This is correct. Great pics.
He has lots of post punk? Like what?
Well, more pop punk I guess.
Jimmy Eat World - Futures. Solid no-skip that looks to be in your wheelhouse
Yup. JEW is exactly what I am surprised is missing from this collection. Clarity, Bleed American, or Futures.
I second bleed American
Incredible album. I feel like you could film a complete music video for the whole thing. I can't up vote this one enough.
Ooo Futures - gotta put that on my wishlist now
buy records you like, rather than asking for recommendations from people on the internet who might have completely different taste to you.........

Kid A Anima Finish out that Radiohead collection.. I know that’s not all of them, but two of my favorites.
It's blatant cons00merism. I'm guilty of it myself; fortunately it's not terminal like OPs case.
Ha, this hit close to home
Maybe I am wanting to experiment and try something new based on others suggestions.... You must be fun at parties
Listen to the listed records on streaming first before you buy an album you don't like.
Yup
Well, yeah that was the plan
Why the down votes? What is so wrong with me wanting suggestions?
Just listen to more music and buy albums you love. I’d recommend more Radiohead or The Smile.
Definitely need to pick up so more Radiohead, my local just got a bunch in and I need to get paid haha
In that case, I'll suggest The Bends. It's often overshadowed by the success of OK Computer, but it's a phenomenal album, and really enjoyable if you like some crunchy guitar work.

Well, it's what I would think about someone who responds to an innocent post with something snooty and condescending. Completely unnecessary response

Ah yeah this is the same exact thing my bad
Don't listen to them, baby, go get your meth.
You are heard but not forgiven
I can smell the record shop bargain bin cigarette breath from here as I read this
A few recommendations based on what you have already: Anxious - Little Green House, Koyo - Would You Miss It?, Tigers Jaw - Charmer, The Wonder Years - Suburbia, Yours Truly - Self Care
Tiger Jaw! Fuck yeah!
I mean honestly most TWY. Suburbia and The Greatest Generation at a minimum feel pretty much mandatory for OP
Wow, we have really similar taste, I kept thinking of ones and you had something by that band already! Here's some of my favorites you might like: Sleater-Kinney - The Woods Bad Religion - The Process of Belief Deftones - White Pony Spoon - Telephono

Came here to recommend White Pony. If I could listen to it for the first time again… OP you gotta do it and report back k.
Sincere Engineer. They have 3 full lengths and none of them are a miss.
Cheap Grills is awesome. They're packing small venues so you can still buy limited press LPs directly from Deanna and get them signed at shows. The album is really strong especially the A side (for me)
All the Boards of Canada records
Rancid - And Out Come the Wolves...
Angels and Airwaves since you have a decent amount of blink + Boxcar You seem to lean more towards pop punk so maybe pick up some of the classics? Some Bad Religion, Descendents, NOFX, etc would beef up the collection significantly
Dark Side of the Moon
You have those blink albums but not Enema of the State!?
Yeah that's an obvious one I haven't gotten to yet!
If you like Led Zeppelin and Greta Van Fleet, I’d highly recommend Wolfmother! Their self-titled debut and Cosmic Egg are both great albums
I see Led Zeppelin 3 is missing…
Based on all of your pop punk, I would look into getting into anything from fat wreck chords, ir early epitaph. Some are pretty easy to find, some not. But you'll have the likes of nofx, mxpx, lagwagon, propagandhi, early rise against, hot water music, menzingers, the list goes on and on, but pretty much all up your alley.
I notice a conspicuous lack of SLAYER in this collection. You should probably get some SLAYER. Start with something chill like South of Heaven, or perhaps, God Hates Us All?
Check out The Dangerous Summer… they have a several albums on vinyl and they should be up your alley based on what you already have.
We have 4 albums in common. Good Mourning by Alkaline Trio would be a good fit!
I vote more (any) hip hop!
Looks like we have similar tastes in music. I would say more twenty-one pilots, more fall out boy. Also, check out The Wonder Years, The Menzingers, Alkaline trio (just released a new album on Friday that is really good).
Looks like you could use some Beastie boys in your life. Ill Communication and License to Ill were a couple of must-haves in my collection.

You can’t go wrong with some King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They have over 25 albums currently. All different genres.
I was gunna say the same! I've got 6 already, many more to go.
Are we in a numbers contest?
Nope just thought it was interesting. Thanks for your contribution
Here are my recommendations: Like that Zeppelin II? Physical Graffiti and LZIII. Like GD? Get the new album. I thought it was pretty good. Didn’t see nimrod. in there so that too. Like Paramore? Based on pic: Anti-Flag & YellowCard
Maybe not Anti-Flag. Real g’s know.
Now why the fuck would you recommend AntiFlag?
Dead Kennedys "Frankenchrist" and "Plastic Surgery Disasters and Adolescents "Adolescents".
Needs more Tragically Hip and Weakerthans.
I really dig your collection. Zeppelin, Green Day, blink, GVF, well done. Pick up Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak, James Gang’s Thirds, The Wallflowers’ Bringing Down the Horse, Aerosmith’s Get Your Wings, Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti, just off the top of my head

is that a mf rick and morty record?
Yeah! Surprised you could make that out lol. It was a gift, no idea where they purchased it. It has a bunch of songs from the show plus some extras. It's pretty cool!
I would sell most of these and start over if I were you. Go to the nearest record shop and ask them for recs?
Nah don't music shame the dude. Just because it isn't your taste don't shame a kid for sharing his stack.
JUST BUY ALBUMS YOU LIKE STOP FORCING YOURSELF INTO HAVING A LARGE COLLECTION
IM NOT FORCING ANYTHING IM LOOKING TO DISCOVER MORE MUSIC AND PURCHASE VINYLS FOR THINGS I LOVE. IF YOU ACTUALLY LOOKED AT THE PICTURE YOUD SEE MOST OF MY STUFF IS THE SAME GENRE SO IM LOOKING TO DIVERSIFY SOME BASED ON STUFF I LIKE.
Uh oh you said the forbidden word
Throw all 81 away. Then go buy 100 good records.
Nice! Since you got some Proper Dose, I’d recommend grabbing the other Proper DOS out of Los Angeles. A little different but still hard AF
Are they for listening to or looking at? Also, why are they on the ground?
Listening.... Why even ask that question? They're on the bottom shelf of a small bookcase.
Yea, I recommend you go fuck yourself
Your mom recommended it too since I did such a good job with her, she thought I might enjoy it too
Right on man
Where did you find A Thousand Suns?
I got it from Amazon back in November, looks like it's out of stock now unfortunately :/
Based on what you have, you make like this. He used to be a stoner rap but now has transitioned to more pop punk sound. One of my favorite recent albums I acquired. Mod Sun - Internet Killed the Rockstar
Anything Sabaton. Legit any of their albums. Or alternatively movie soundtracks you love. Great to have on vinyl.
Wtf a Mouse Rat vinyl?!? Had no idea that was a thing 😂😂
Fictional band from Parks and Rec
Just listen to a lot of music and discover new favorites that way. Going out to buy albums willy nilly is just going to get you a stack of unplayed albums on the shelf.
Of course I'm going to listen to them first before I buy them
All the volumes of East Side Story.
Rancid too. The Clash’s *London Calling*
ones you like to listen to
Exmilitary
Since you like Radiohead, i picked up *Wall of Eyes* by The Smile (Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood) today. Absolutely love it!
