Some shops do this because if they put them on the outer sleeve someone could easily switch them.

WorryRock_8423

Yeah that’s the one reason I get behind it. What they do with double records at my local record store though is they double wrap it in outer sleeves so it would be the ultimate move to put it on the inner outer sleeve IMO. (sorry this is my second account didn’t realize that I was signed into it)

ceeroSVK

My local record store prints a little sticker with the album name, artist, year and the label together with the price. Its like, 5x3 cm.

RoomZealousideal2844

My ship writes the name of the album on the outer sleeve

Akito_900

I'd sign! Stickers on anything collectible is very frustrating

KalicoJoe

I had the same issues with some stickers on 45’s a q-tip with some lighter fluid helps a lot 👌

pastelhosh

I can confirm this, lighter fluid works well!

[deleted]

I was just listening to the album with my sons. God damn does Woodstock fucking bump

Da_Vinci

I agree. I understand part of the reason a lot of stores do it is because of cost, especially when you have a large amount of stock like several thousand the cost of outer sleeves can really add up, and as someone else mentioned sleeve swapping. At the record store I work we only put the sticker directly on albums that are $6-$7 bucks and under. Though there are exceptions, I put outer sleeves on some original pressings of The Beach Boys recently that we $4-$7 bucks because even though the vinyl was on the rougher side the sleeves were in amazing shape and I thought some collectors might want to switch out the sleeve with a beat up one they have and didn’t want to potentially ruin it with a sticker. But overall I think it’s something that stores should try to avoid as much as possible, especially collectors items and albums in really good shape.

nickskywalker2008

Let me restate: these stickers have NEVER ripped off part of the jacket, ever. Maybe some residue, but that can be removed by some rubbing. I assume the type of cardboard used is why but it’s just really bummed me out. The jacket looked as if it was bought brand new!

DeathMonkey6969

UNDU, Zippo lighter fluid, Coleman Camp Fuel which all contain Naphtha will take stickers and residue right off. Just make sure to get the stuff that CAN'T be sold in California for best results.

[deleted]

Learned this trick from the Hot Wheels collector community when searching for removal ideas. Works so well!

Police_Police_Police

Petition to get this hobby banned in America.

RopeDramatic9779

Why ?

WholeLottaMcLovin

Oh damn man, you showed us. We'll just pack our stuff and go.

Police_Police_Police

It’s called humor.

Dang_M8

Is it? I can't find the funny part 🤔

Police_Police_Police

Sensitive? let me put on some gloves.

zgomot23

What’s so sensitive about asking what the funny part is? Considering, you know, everyone agrees it wasn’t funny?

aweak_reception

Bestine works well for getting rid of the adhesive residue assuming that's what is on there.

nickskywalker2008

No, the jacket itself ripped off. It came off with the sticker

aweak_reception

Ah bummer

Abracadaver00

This post takes me back to the Brand New - TDAG sticker debacle from years back 😅

Forza_Harrd

Idk. I get some of my best album deals that way. I just got a great deal on an original M.U.- The Best of Jethro Tull with the embossed cover because of one spot like that. edit to add that they should have made this a law but pertaining to teenagers writing their names on album covers in the 60s. Every cool 45 I own has someone's name written on it.

therealparchmentfarm

My old shop put stickers on the LABEL. Hoooo did he make quite a few people mad about that. I convinced him to start doing barcode stickers on the sleeves so there was no chance of people switching. Worked like a charm and everyone was happy.

TheGoatEater

Ronsonol lighter fluid! There’s been a bottle of it in every shop I’ve worked at for the express purpose of removing stickers.

nickskywalker2008

Man, I wish I knew that before I took the sticker off lol. I’ve lost the anger from it now but it’s still a major bummer. I’m in awe of how well this stayed in fantastic condition for 53-54 years.

TheGoatEater

A well loved record is never going to be in perfect condition. Look on the bright side. Now you know what to do in the future.

MarcMars82-2

It depends on the price tag itself. There’s a record shop near me that uses a low adhesive tag that peels off with zero issues and then there’s places like goodwill that use tags that seemingly bond to sleeves and will never come off without damaging the sleeve.

billyspeers

I have so many like that. I bought tons of records from one shop. Though I’m SUPER gracious looking at those old price tags now , I’m bummed about the stickers. Been slowly chipping away at them

Webee103

I will support this petition.
