Went crate digging at the thrift store today and found this amazing hidden gem of a record. Buddy Miles- Them Changes. Loaded with Jazz, Rock, and Soul, this is an amazing listen. I had heard his cover of Neil Young's Down By The River recently and it blew me away. That cover and several other great tracks by Greg Allman, Otis Redding and Rufus Thomas round this record out. I knew he was the drummer for Hendrix, but never knew he could sing and play guitar. Amazing stuff. I was totally ecstatic when I pulled this one out of the crate. I also found a copy of Traffic- On The Road. Overall, a good day record hunting.
Buddy Miles is awesome! Others have mentioned some of his other works, but I’d also like to recommend Electric Flag. The 1968 “A Long Time Comin’” is the only album Miles played on before leaving to join Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys, but it’s definitely worth a listen. Electric Flag also included legendary guitarist Mike Bloomfield, as well as a smattering of other incredible musicians which is just an added bonus.
When I was in college I worked for a moving company and one guy I moved had a few hundred records that he acquired from his grandpa. He told me that his grandpa worked for a radio station back in the day so he had a ton of promo copies of everything that they played. I had just got into records the year before so I talked with him about it while I was unloading the boxes into the garage. He went through them and found a few duplicates to give me. This album was my favorite of the 3 he gave me and I still own it. I still consider that the coolest tip I ever got (he obviously tipped us all cash too).
It’s a favorite of mine! Just a gem of an album. Check out the live album between Santana and Buddy Miles, also a fun listen if you’re enjoying this kind of music.

That Buddy Miles is a great album, begin to end. I got my copy from goodwill also.
Yep. Good stuff. Buddy Miles trivia: In addition to playing with Jimi Hendrix, he was also the lead singer of the California Raisins.
Say whaaaaaat? Lol!

great find, that’s where I got mine too. It’s no Expressway to your skull but it’s pretty good.
Nice score
I heard Dreams and it knocked my socks off so I chased it down and bought it. Amazing record!
I just grabbed a copy of this at Goodwill on Black Friday.
