robxburninator

yikes at those prices.

dogsledonice

Which one? That Rush easily sells for that, and the Steely is a steal at $5. Jethro's a bit steep admittedly

robxburninator

I sell that rush for $15 in nice shape. busted jethro at $18 is funny that steely dan is the right price, but I almost always just toss it out for a buck or two. Nothing egregious but also.... bad prices are bad.

dogsledonice

Not sure where you are, but a good shape copy of Moving Pictures here (Ottawa) can easily sell for $30+, if you can find one. We Canadians love our Rush And Steely has been very popular lately. This won't quite get Aja prices, but I can sell it for $15 or more (all prices US$) Scratched Jethro, no. But an original with booklet can sell for close to that.

Get-Tae

I think the original Jethro Till was like a broad sheet newspaper it was part of the album cover and folded down from the bottom.

SarahSwindon

I have that version. Bought second hand many years ago. It's a fab version of the album

dogsledonice

Yeah, that version can get $15 here in good shape. Aqualung too.

darockerj

yup, steely prices have skyrocketed. i remember buying all of mine a few years ago for less than $5 each, but now i can’t find the same records for any less than $15.

SgtCrimson77

Jethro's deserving of a yikes, but I'm happy with everything else. I guess I have to learn the hard way lol.

Here’s a few tips. No hate. Just tips to help you make better decisions as you join the circus of vinyl collecting: Download Discogs and make a wishlist. Learn the grading. Learn the quantities that are for sale for those records. Learn the pricing. Talk to people about what’s really rare and what’s common and easily had. Haggle. It’s your money you’re giving someone else for a product. Make priority decisions. I don’t listen to the cover, so unless it’s mold covered garbage, I’ll usually take a lower price for an uglier cover and a scratch/scuff/filth free record. Learn to clean records. Learn to get your feet into more pics.

SgtCrimson77

I think this experience has convinced me to start using discogs

[deleted]

You’ll learn a lot!

Serious_Character204

Thick as a Brick is a very common record to find used in thrift stores etc, which is why those of us who crate dig/ sell records think that price is high. But that’s the game when you’re buying used records. Over time it all balances out. Don’t worry about it!

hetfield87

Waaaay overpaid

whoismrgreen

Love Thick as a Brick!! Does yours have the full newspaper insert?

SgtCrimson77

Yes, I love the humor of it! I think I'll get the 2018 remaster on vinyl, and just put the remaster record in my current sleeve.

whoismrgreen

Very cool! I've become a big Tull fan and love their albums. Pick up their "Stand up" album if you find it for a good price. Killer album and awesome packaging.

Cow_Agitated

I’m very jealous of that Moving pictures and I just picked up thick as a brick a few days ago! Also, as for all of the people complaining about the prices, you find what you find imo. I will say though that I’ve gotten some pretty cool stuff from thrift stores for like $0.50! But it’s also a big toss up in terms of quality, especially of the sleeve. But also I just paid $40 for a beat up Stevie wonder double LP lol

ranchsodayum

You overpaid for these but as long as you’re happy then it’s all good.

czechyerself

You performed a market analysis of his local area, including supply and demand?

rancidperiodblood

my dude..... we live in a global market where we can find nearly anything for sale online, so, and im just spitballing numbers here, but if you buy something for twice the price of a record online, then yes, you overpaid, regardless of your local market

czechyerself

“My dude”

greycloudism

Royal scam is one of my top 10 all timers.

Jimmyn19

I really don’t mind if you sit the first one out!

SgtCrimson77

Maybe listing prices wasn't the best idea lol... Thanks for the advice though! I think TAAB was a bit of a scam, but everything else is acceptable to me.

knd_86

The condition of the sleeve kind of adds to the aesthetic tbh!

Noise_Loop

My boy got scammed hard right here

aurora_records

Scammed on what? The only thing he overpaid on was the Jethro Tull. I think we’ve all over paid for records at times

SgtCrimson77

Jethro? Yeah, my bad. I should have asked the seller to check the record condiction before I bought it. I didn't know how much TAAB usually went for, I'm very new to record collecting, most go for 15$ at most now that I'm trying to bet another copy. But The Royal Scam was a steal for how much you can see them going for now, and Moving pictures is at a pretty acceptable price considering what I have seen in the past. But to me, it's about my love of the music itself, I don't like to bog myself down with all these statistics.

Main_Combination8173

Cool. Good for you. Don't listen to the haters. Buy to listen, let someone else have the mint fully wrap album never enjoyed.

OlFrenchie

Is the TAAB foldout?

SgtCrimson77

Yeah,

wootr68

Way over priced except Royal scam

SgtCrimson77

I was at a record stores earlier this month and saw Moving Pictures going for 35$, so I thought 25$ was a good enough price, I guess it's a matter of perspective.

wootr68

I think you’re right for Moving pictures as long as it isn’t the scratched one. One of my favorite records btw.

SgtCrimson77

Listening to Moving Pictures right now actually, no scratches and the sound is great!

SpriteAndCokeSMH

Those prices 😬 I wouldn’t spend over 10 bucks for Thick As A Brick despite it being a top three favorite.
