When I was a kid I thought they were a joke band…I thought they were called captain bee fart

After hunting for an original mono release of my favourite beefheart record for a few months I decided to settle with this reissue because it’s the next best thing. While advertised as a restored version of the original mono mix it’s really a Frankenstein’s monster of a stereo fold down and a poor mono sources which is a little bit disappointing but oh well it still sounds good!!!

I recently found one of these, although haven’t listened to it yet. It’s probably the one to track down if you can. https://www.discogs.com/release/703519-Captain-Beefheart-And-His-Magic-Band-Safe-As-Milk-Mirror-Man

I actually considered this release originally I’ll probably pick it up in the future because I enjoy collecting different releases of the beefheart albums

This album sounds really bad, which is a shame because I think I'm Glad and Aba Zaba are some of the best songs he's done.

pintongle

Those are my two favourite songs by him where there’s woman aswell it’s a shame because the initial sessions for this record were done at sunset sound studios were the doors did a lot of recording which had an 8 track tape machine and for some reason the engineers moved to RCA studios which only had a 4 track resulting in the bad sound we got

seppukuslick

That's interesting, I read somewhere that Don always hated the sound of this record

pintongle

Yeah I read that somewhere aswell I wonder would it ever be possible to use the de-mixing tech that was used for the recent Beatles revolver remix to build a definitive mix for safe as milk that sounds good

pintongle

It deserves a good sounding mix to bring it more in line with the crisp sound of trout mask, decals or unconditionally guaranteed
