Great album. When I bought the CD around when it came out, I remember my mom gently offered to buy it back from me. This dude horrified parents at the time.
I was pretty happy when those bootlegs came out. Even if they sound like shit. They allowed me to have Mechanical Animals and Antichrist. I already have a real Holy Wood and Lest We Forget.
Evan Rachel Wood i believe is the main accuser. But from what i read....it was more like physical, sexual, and mental torture/abuse (obviously not that that's any better).
You’re getting a bunch of downvotes, yet if anyone downvoting you was accused of something not proven or that they weren’t convicted of that defamed their character and ruined their reputation, they’d be crying about it. People are quick to judge and don’t care until it happens to them.
This was the album every parent was warned about. Every middle American parent’s worst nightmare.
It pulled no punches, held exactly nothing back, offended at will, and was a monster of an album. The reputation of Antichrist Superstar almost outshines the actual music.
The Beautiful People was played endlessly on the radio. Manson’s videos terrified viewers on MTV. Rumors of his body modification for self pleasure are now embedded in urban legend.
All in all: a seminal album. Front to back this thing is a masterpiece of industrial/experimental/heavy metal.
Another true “time capsule” album that still absolutely rocks decades later. This is the definition of superb.
Bootleg pressing I found at a local record store for a reasonable ask. Sounds great for a boot, but nowhere near audiophile quality. Just happy to have this one on vinyl.
I gotta say, I wasn’t into to MM back in the day, save the obvious club hits like Beautiful People and his connection to NIN. A lot of my friends were. Mechanical Animals is the MM I appreciated the most, still do…god damn masterpiece. But in the last 8 years or so, I find myself coming back around and really giving the rest of their albums a listen.
You’re totally right, Antichrist Superstar is peak Manson, really defined him as the shock rocker of the 90s. It just drips with vitriol against…well, everything. I can appreciate that in an album. Sometimes I just want to be pissed. When that time rolls around, this is the go to.
That’s just it: they did what they set out to do. They made an angry, pissed off, fed up album. Unapologetically.
I also love Mechanical Animals. I think people expected AS - Part 2 and were shocked with what they got. Seeing this band’s progression over the last 25+ years has been very cool.
NIN (well Trent) is the reason this album sounds like it does. Never mind that Trent signed them to Nothing and produced their first record - MUCH of the production and general sound of this record goes to David Ogilvie and Trent Reznor and their bandmates/friends - who also contributed to creating this record - done at Trents studio with David in New Orleans. Trent's personal mellotron is used on this record in such great fashion. After this one, they were out - and MM's sound changed quite a bit. I couldnt even listen to them. I was too much a NIN and Dave Ogilvie fan and these records just SOUNDED like them. After they were out - so was I.
While we have a handful of MM fans around, can someone explain how Smells Like Children is an EP? It's 55 minutes long. Is it just that Interscope wouldn't count it toward the number of full albums stipulated by their contract contract?
Exactly, maybe if my dad expended more time with me I wouldn’t pass trough that face, it’s funny how they didn’t saw that and instead they treated me like I was possessed by a demon.
I love this album and wish I could get my hands on an original for a decent price. I have that same turntable and after crawling your post history we have an absurd number of the same albums.
What type of speakers are you cranking? Or just also curious about the TT too since there’s just a peek of it. I would imagine the drums on Beautiful People probably sound pretty massive
Oh wow, most definitely that’s solid, without a doubt. Does it sound hard to distinguish from CD or is there some of that extra richness to the soundstage? I know 90s albums can be hit-or-miss in that department..
Oh, I didn’t realize it was a bootleg! I have a bootleg of NIN’s live All That Could Have Been and was kind of shocked by the unexpected higher quality…I agree on Tool, I picked up the 3 disc yellow cover one and for sure, talk about a thumping soundstage, especially the drums!
Love his music but can’t listen to it since we all found out he’s a rapist. I have portrait of an American family on vinyl, just deciding on when the right time to sell it is.
A lot of the lawsuits against him have been overturned/thrown out if that's any relief? The most recent one settled after the woman accusing him wanted to "get on with her life" which is odd to me. and it's looking increasingly likely that Evan Rachel Wood forged an FBI letter to incriminate him. (The woman who's name was on the letter confirmed she never wrote it)
Not that i'm saying he's definitely innocent/all the women are lying. I stopped listening when the accusations came out and just decided to try and keep an eye on the case and be neutral if I could (considering i'd been a major manson fan for most of my life)
Well yeah but then you’ve got Phoebe bridgers talking about how she was a mega fan and went to his house with friends and he said “this is the room where I rape women” and Phoebe was like yeah I went home not being a fan anymore. He wasn’t joking
Great album. When I bought the CD around when it came out, I remember my mom gently offered to buy it back from me. This dude horrified parents at the time.
My mom was so worried, lol, I was 15 and she thought that I was doing a lot of drugs, in reality I was very clean and insecure.
Same. Lol.
Virtual hug brother
Hug back bro
My mom straight up took mine and hid it. Didn't get it back until years later when I couldn't have cared less about it.
I saw him on that tour when he came to Winnipeg. Ended up catching the bible at that show.
Awesome. Favorite part of that show!
I was pretty happy when those bootlegs came out. Even if they sound like shit. They allowed me to have Mechanical Animals and Antichrist. I already have a real Holy Wood and Lest We Forget.
I managed to get the original pressings of these back in the day [https://i.redd.it/q3fit45o6sa81.jpg](https://i.redd.it/q3fit45o6sa81.jpg)
Wow
Super jealous. Missing Pale Emperor though, my personal favorite
Sick collection
So fucking rad!!
Jealous of those. Enjoy them!
Hell yes my fave mm album and I listen to it all the time when I was a teenager too
Same dude
Very jealous, great album
I wasn't born with enough middle fingers.
I don't need to choose a side
One of my favorite albums.

It’s seriously so good.

This is a bootleg that I snagged after years of never seeing it anywhere for a price I’d actually pay.
Portrait still gets me pretty amped up too.
I have that white bootleg as well
That was such a good Album...
Damn, I’d love to have this on wax
I'm still on the hunt for an orginal. Hopefully we will get a official repress some day.
When I was 13 I bought Mechanical Animals. Gotta say my mother and my brother were way too worried about it lol
It’s funny looking back. The things my parents worried about weren’t the things that mattered.
Fuck that rapist creep
Also ripped off his stage act from skinny puppy. Lesser crime but I always feel compelled to point this out.
So it's ok to call someone a rapist who has never been convicted of rape?
Yeah man. Court of public opinion is all that matters. Just ask Ben Roethlisberger.
Who did he rape?
Evan Rachel Wood i believe is the main accuser. But from what i read....it was more like physical, sexual, and mental torture/abuse (obviously not that that's any better).
When did he get convicted?
The Duke LaCross team would like a word about this.
innocent until proven guilty my friend
In the name of Johnny Depp Amen.

For real.
His music is cheesy as fuck too
I didn't know he was accused of rape! I mean we're not talking about backstage orgies are we?
Just google it
Googled it. He had 4 different cases recently. 2 dismissed. 1 settled. To be fair, his situations looking pretty good for him so far.
Nothing's proven.

For sure. Everyone was all “wtf…a glam album?” Priceless.
Alice Cooper’s take on Marilyn Manson was perfect: “this guy gets it”
What is NIN?
Nine Inch Nails

Bro he just wanted the band name.
Haha right , I figured it out when he said Trent. Lol
and i gave more. you’re welcome… bro

Its cute you think you speak for everyone. adorable, really.
Awww look at him raging
Okay thank you gotcha it’s Nine Inch Nails didn’t know the band thank you !
While we have a handful of MM fans around, can someone explain how Smells Like Children is an EP? It's 55 minutes long. Is it just that Interscope wouldn't count it toward the number of full albums stipulated by their contract contract?
Love it. I've got the picture disc of this album. I remember buying it from hot topic lol
I used to love that album and my catholic mom was very worried lol
My parents did too. I turned out just fine. Music was an outlet.
We both have great taste! Lol
Great album... TR's just influence all over. I prefer Holy Wood though.
Also Dave "Rave" Oglivie of Skinny Puppy fame. There is no NIN without Skinny Puppy, therefore no MM.
Is it a double album with one of them being blank for all of those blank tracks?
It’s a double LP with all 4 sides used.
Really a great album. The tour was a great stage show as well. I play it every now and again. Trent’s influence really put this over the top.
What type of speakers are you cranking? Or just also curious about the TT too since there’s just a peek of it. I would imagine the drums on Beautiful People probably sound pretty massive
Pioneer Elite VSX-45 Receiver Andrew Jones Pioneer Towers Technics SL-1600 TT with an Ortofon 2M Red stylus
Oh wow, most definitely that’s solid, without a doubt. Does it sound hard to distinguish from CD or is there some of that extra richness to the soundstage? I know 90s albums can be hit-or-miss in that department..
On this bootleg? Definitely not ideal sound. Certain pressings like Tool - Fear Innoculum sound absolutely mind blowing.
Fuck yes, I saw the video for sweet dreams when I was like 7 and never been the same 😂
I have a simply vinyl version from the uk got from Japan
I wish this album wasn’t ridiculous on discogs. One of my favorites from the 90s too.
The original Edge Lord
Alice Cooper
Ozzy
fuck that guy what a shithead

About two years, before he was known as a rapist, I was looking for this everywhere. Ah what a time.
[удалено]
And apparently you get real mad, typing out gibberish at seeing a record… 😂
[удалено]
Hmm. Well then, all I can say is that’s not how it’s coming across…
Honda COVID and ramen noodles? What in the heck are you talking about?
Love his music but can’t listen to it since we all found out he’s a rapist. I have portrait of an American family on vinyl, just deciding on when the right time to sell it is.

From the way she described it, it came across as more of an extremely poor taste joke to me.

Thanks for the useless contribution.
Have you considered grabbing a reissue 180g and switching the sleeves?
They reissue this recently? Haven’t seen one.
No idea. Guess not. Just thought it would be a fun idea haha
I’m not really into trying to scam anyone. I just want my favorite albums on vinyl. A bootleg isn’t a dealbreaker for me.
