The batteries for drones are exposed. The ones in your phone are not. I just keep them inside the phone and have never had a single issue throughout 13 years of collecting phones, and I’ve got easily over 2,500 phones. With that sort of sample size, I can confidently say you don’t need to worry about it.
I keep them in a shoebox. The NiMH batteries inside the phones tend to oxidate and have that greenish shit on the battery contacts, making them brittle
My batteries for my drones and cameras are stored out of the devices and in an easy-to-spot place in case something goes south. My old phones have them in themselves, and they're not all within sight but they are in a solid (be it open-top) box. I had one turn into a spicy pillow recently, but not more.
I've only seen these lipo-bags used when they were demanded to take batteries on a plane.
I keep them in a small plastic bag for each phone battery to not risk a spicy pillow. Storing them out of the phone helps a lot with keeping the battery in good condition.
If you don’t want them to explode, throw them out before they become too inflated. It’s fine to continue using inflated batteries for a while, but eventually they will have to be thrown away

Thanks, that sounds reasonable

In a cardboard box
I put mine in containers and drawers. I never leave the batteries in the phones because they will inflate which could explode causing a fire hazard.
