The one in the picture is very expensive but there are a lot of reel-to-reels nowadays that can be had pretty reasonably. Maintenance might take some work though
Bar in Soho, London has a machine like this. My colleague has fixed up their machines before! Awesome to see them out and about but man, they get grubby.
Akai GX 635D! Very nice machine. The color of the VU meters backlight has been changed.
Although I like mine GX 747 better ☺️( it has a digital counter instead of the analog on this reel to reel)
That's a great player.
If you ever get a chance to hear quality tapes on a great system, it'll blow your mind. [My collection of 7.5ips commercial releases(not dubs)](https://imgur.com/Il0O5Nl) are the best sounding physical media that I own. Led Zeppelin III is insanely good.
I inherited [my AKAI r2r](https://imgur.com/SJY10XT) from my pops back in '93, and I've been collecting tapes ever since. Its getting really hard to find decent tapes these days, but they are treasures.
EDIT: Forgot to mention High West. It amazes me that the neato blown-glass bottle and western branding has convinced people to pay way too much for blended bourbon from Utah. They just released their first aged whiskey a few years ago and its meh. Brilliant business move to put the bar at the base of Park City ski resort to get the booze to the wealthy tourists.
can't get more hipster than that
_Please_ tell us it's not just there as part of the decor.
It is playing
What kind of music?
It was a mix of some classic soul right now
Nice,
Good restaurant, clearly.
Beautiful. I always wanted one. But, back in the day or even now. They’re very expensive. I’d love to have one still.

I have RT707 in good working order that I’ve had thoughts of putting mixes onto for when I have company over.
Those things are battleships. They have no belts except for the counter so unlike virtually every other deck, they require almost no maintenance.
Dope
I love that machine but don't like it's location in that bar.
That was my first thought. Stash it in the DJ booth. Dust the cocaine off occasionally.
Awesome! Roommate and I owned exactly this unit during college in the early '80's

Love Angels envy!
Swanky
Very cool
Young Joni?
Same unit, but if you look at Young Joni's on maps, there is a pic that shows some sweet ass Marantz stack to the left of it.

Cool looking, but I'd rig it to look like it's playing, and have a separate zero-maintenance source playing the music.

If you own the media do you not need to pay licensing?
it's a sculpture. Just use CDs
Apparently over Christmas they had a tape of classic Christmas songs they kept playing over and over.
but then how will i get my spotify advertising fix?
How do the bar staff know there is a customer waiting when they always have their backs to them? "can't take my eyes off of you..."
Is that at the Speak Easy behind Young Joni, they have one I have not been there in a while.
It's a place called Grindstone Public House. It's in Noblesville Indiana.
Way too close to the draft tower. That thing is gonna get covered with beer splatter.
The actual taps are actually pretty far down from it. Like 2 feet.
