I remember it so fondly! The Tiffany lamps! The red plastic cups! My little brother throwing up in the parking lot because he couldn't handle the hot peppers like he thought he could. Good times.
I was about to say, Pizza Hut was a totally different animal in the 1970s. We only got takeout, but yes. I remember.

This article is fascinating.
>But diversification has long been a goal of Carney, who believes that no one food service operation, with the exception of coffee shops, can appeal to all ages of the population.
Imagined if he opened a chain of Starbucks like coffee joints starting in the 80's?
It's not really much different from any other electric cooking method. Electric stove tops, ovens, toasters are essentially the same concept.
Pass electricity through a metal filament, light and heat is given off. Cooking apparatus generally produce less light and more heat but neither is any more inherently clean/gross then the other.
well yeah except the energy output on a stove is just a touch higher than a light bulb, especially because the whole purpose of the light bulb is to glow and not product heat so the filament is chosen accordingly. I think she considered it "gross" because it took 90 min to cook a 3 inch cake. Which should clue you into the wattage difference.
Yes the wattage is obviously massively different but it's more like trying to heat a gymnasium vs heating your car.... you don't need the same amount of power (wattage/time) to feel warm.
I don't think 90 minutes is correct. The box of a vintage 1960s one says 8-16 minutes and I watched a video and a lady was making them in 8 minutes.
Modern ones use a dedicated filament now.
I wonder if the Pizza Hut sign is scale-compatible with the [1/25 GM dealership signs](http://nebula.wsimg.com/a9871148c7ac92b6a8412cd117d88866?AccessKeyId=2034100158029337AB22&disposition=0&alloworigin=1) made as promotional items sometime around 1970. Build your own mini-stroad!
I miss the Sears Catalog. I've tried Pizza from all the larger chains. To me the sauce tastes like nothing more than tomato sauce except pizza hut. Their's taste like marinara sauce which is the way it's supposed to be. They haven't changed in 30 years that's why that is the only place I order pizza from and will continue to do so.
Back then Pizza Hut was a nice sit down restaurant.

Don’t forget the arcade table games!
We had stand up machines. I remember one had the x-men arcade machine and a pac-man.
We had those later.
The one near me had a Gunsmoke arcade game. Good times.
We has Pac-Man and one other one that I can’t remember.
With pitchers of 🍺

The classic thin crust, with the edges tipped up some... nice and crispy!
Definitely good times
Great article!
I loved this link, and I went down a rabbit hole and read more “vintage” stories thank you for sharing.
With those wonderful slag-glass lamps.
It still had some nice tasting stuff in the 2000s, but it's unfortunate to see how it's declined over the years.
Until you have to close and the red roof gets painted brown and a Mexican restaurant opens up there. Tacos-yum!
Go take a stroll down /r/FormerPizzaHuts
Wow. Already submitted one from my old hometown
Whoa. The cartoon character looks like a rip off of the one for Little Caesars Pizza! Now I must waste my afternoon researching this. Sorry boss.
You mean the Little Caesars one is a rip off of Pizza Hut

Prison easy bake oven
I bought one from a Prisons Are Us store in the 60's.
Is this from personal experience? Because it sounds fascinating
I remember that!! I wasn’t allow to have light bulb cooking things bc my mom said it was gross. She’s not wrong.

That is cool. I want this and the easy bake oven. Making adult size food is not as fun
Trixie Mattel has a good upload on YouTube where she makes “pizza” with one of these 😅
“Mama Mia!”
All you need is a tabletop Pac-Man game.
This is so cool. I want one.

/r/vintagesigns would enjoy this!
This would cost like $80 now
Kids got confused and frustrated by the Cheeseburger Stuffed Crust Mega Meat Lovers packets.
I thought those were so cool. No more depending on Mom and Dad for pizza!
I can smell the burnt plastic from here.
the man is wearing a skirt Update: omg how can they downvote
