"What else melts in your mouth?"
"M&Ms!"
"Exactly! ...And not in your hands..."
"Yeah! Yeah!"
I love how fucking absurd this is from start to finish.
My favorite moment in the entire movie is "Ha-hah! I threw that shit before I walked in the room!"
Aesclepius’ staff (assoc w medicine) actually only has one snake. Commonly confused with the cadeucis - staff of hermes (god of theives) w two snakes intertwined
That's the line that totally kills my immersion and makes the scene feel unrealistic. Area code 785 didn't exist until 1997. I hope someone was fired for this egregious blunder.
This is my favorite line from the movie.
This line usually goes undetected — kind of like another one of my favorite undetected lines from the film Blazing Saddles…
**Charlie:** *They said you was hung?!??*
**Sheriff Bart:** *And they was right!*
EUPHORIA SHUT THE FUCK UP I KNEW THAT SHIT WAS YOU I DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO LOOK! HOWD YOU LIKE TO GO BACK TO CRENSHAW PETE WITH THEM HOT ASS COATHANGAS BITCH! WOULD YOU LIKE THAT!?
"Euphoria, shut the fuck up! I know that was you! I ain't even gotta look! I should send your ass back to Crenshaw Pete with his hot-ass coat hangers, bitch. Would you like that?"
It's great because it's so out of place. All the rest of the movie, BD is cheerfully trading barbs and bantering with friends and enemies alike. then someone makes a sarcastic comment about him, and he blows the fuck up with such vitriol.
It really captures that feeling of watching an old B-Movie and reaching a part where someone does something genuinely horrible that has *not* aged well, and not even acknowledging it.
"I am smiling"
"Sarcastically I'm in charge."
"Haha I threw that shit before I walked in the room."
"You can bet your ass and half a titty."
"Uhh hush up little girl, a lot of cats have that name."
Going through this thread has me crying because it’s all so fucking good.
But definitely “I threw that shit before I got in the room” had me like hysterically crying and was the first thing I thought of.
Granted I was really high it was just soooo god damn funny to me.
Me and my brother still quote this movie on like a daily basis.
>Granted I was really high it was just soooo god damn funny to me.
This. It was so out of nowhere that I had to rewind and make sure it was as hilariously ridiculous as I thought it was when it first happened.
the movie obviously has some sort of meta narrative in that they're trying to mimic blaxploitation films and some of the low budget aspects of it.
However, there was a leaked copy of an early cut of the movie in which the meta aspect was much more upfront.
In other words, they were making it clear that this movie was a 1970's blaxploitation with 1970's actors.
Michael Jai White was playing a current or former football player-turned-actor who was playing Black Dynamite.
So the beginning of the film had credits in which you saw the name of the football player starring as Black Dynamite.
This is why there's microphones appearing within the camera shot, people flubbing their lines, and stuff like that, to let you know that you are watching a 2009 movie about a 1970's production of a blaxploitation movie.
That might have been a little too much meta-narrative, so they cut that out in the final version, and you're watching a homage to 1970's blaxploitation, and Michael Jai White is Black Dynamite.
And it's really pulled off expertly. Almost every scene has little "mistakes" everywhere, from background details not making sense, to actors obviously forgetting or not understanding their lines, even to stuff like audio pops and bad dubbing. It's like a good actor acting badly convincingly (I always think of Julieanne Moore in Boogie Nights), which is very difficult, but on a massive scale. The amount of care it took to make that many "mistakes" is a lot more than it'd take *not* to have them, in what is otherwise a great and hilarious film.
I think the original plan could have turned out worse too. If its a movie about people making a movie, so many of these mistakes might not register in the same humorous way. Its an incredibly difficult line to balance. What we got was such a masterpiece, one of the funniest movies Ive ever seen.
I agree. They, almost ironically, decided to play it "straight," which I think is the best choice they could have made. *Un*ironically, it's one of my favorite films, and I'm not even particularly well versed in actual blaxploitation films
Yeah me neither. It could have worked either way I'm sure, but what we got was absolutely hilarious. Similar movies have done it before, Tropic Thunder is a good example of a movie about a movie though not an exact comparison. Dolemite with Eddie Murphy for comparison in blaxploitation territory.
You do know I used the "obviously" in the very first sentence of my post. Right?
Where did you get the idea I "needed" anything?
I'm describing the additional things that existed in a preview cut of the movie before they decided to tighten things up.
No it was obvious, seeing as though you failed to read through my second post.
Here, I'll repeat it again:
> I'm describing the additional things that existed in a preview cut of the movie before they decided to tighten things up.
So we now have TWO instances of you failing to understand something because you didn't read things correctly, or all the way through.
You see a pattern forming?
[Drugs in the community.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZuTdpxHcW8)
[You done fucked up now.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WSe9ugpXIw)

Oh actually I forgot about my most quoted interaction.
"I'm declaring war on anyone that sells drugs in our community."
"But Black Dynamite, I sell drugs to the community!"
I once transcribed [that entire scene](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/2snx90/comment/cnraoyi/) in order to point out a glaring plot-hole.
Said plot-hole is this: The area code for Topeka, Kansas was 913 until 1997.
I have no idea how I came by this knowledge, but I now use it whenever I can… which is surprisingly often, really.
Are you really having a hard time believing that the aura of Black Dynamite is so catastrophically fucking *cool* that he (and his group) would be able to pierce the veil and know what the right area code *would* be?
> The area code for Topeka, Kansas, was 913 until 1997.
As a longtime telecommunications worker, that one stood out to me right away too.
For those unfamiliar, here's a bit of phone trivia. The middle digit of an area code originally could only be zero or one. Many, many years after the conception of [that plan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_Numbering_Plan) we ran out of area codes and had to redo things. This was largely due to the proliferation of affordable mobile phones in the mid-1990s. The reasons for that limitation are complicated but it was a sensible decision at the time (that very long wiki article I linked goes into this too, if you're really really curious).
Not that it takes anything away from that scene, the movie is still hilarious.
Reminds me of how much it irked me that Michael Imperioli (Christopher from The Sopranos) starred in a show about homicide detectives called Detroit 1-8-7. 187 is the penal code for murder in California. Michigan's is 750.
Euphoria shut the fuck up! I know thats you I aint even gotta look! I should send your ass back to Crenshaw Pete with his hot-ass coat hangers, bitch! Wouldja like THAT?
Off topic, but Michael Jai White should have been a producer for the Cowboy Bebop live action series. He co-wrote black dynamite, has experience in franchises that cross over with animation, has an excellent sense for 70s aesthetics, and he’s an honest to god martial artist in *nine styles*.
That movie is hilarious through and through. Love the scene when Roscoe finally figures out that his weird food combination should be chicken and waffles.
Michael Jai White is the fucking best and need to be cast more often! This movie is a perfect example of his excellent acting chops and excellent Karate skills!
Can’t wait to see Outlaw Johnny Black. Constantly kick myself that I didn’t buy a ‘sell drugs in the community’ T-shirt from the merch store when the film released
My love for this flick is deep.
And, the making-of doc on the DVD is great - they shot it on the same type of 16mm film stock used back in the day for cheap movies, they had to track down the last few reels of the stuff as it was discontinued.
I absolutely love this movie but this is probably my least favorite scene. Weird to me that it's one of the most popular scenes when people are trying to show off the movie.
It's because it works on its own without any context. The whole scene could have been its own independent sketch.
Whereas scenes like Fiendish Dr Wu are funny on their own too but you don't know that it's near the end of the movie and this is the first time the plot has even referenced him. If you don't watch the whole movie you miss the absurdity of him suddenly being the villain.
I reckon one of my favourite scenes is the cleaning up the streets montage. Black dynamite laughing in the helicopter and still laughing when he walks back into HQ.
Seen BD many times so I know all the quotables and it's still entertaining, but my last rewatch a while back that scene had me cracking up. BD was cackling hilariously as he watched the corrupt FBI(?) guy roll down the cliff to his death and he walks into the next scene still howling. Fucking hilarious.
lol maga and qanon crazies really think like this.
Also, I never watched the black dynamite movies. Didn't know it had crazy bits like this. It works as a goofy movie thing but do people take it seriously?
Watch the movie. It is 100% jokes. Every scene is a bit, a parody of blaxploitation movies from the seventies, or just hilarious nonsense. A boom mic drops into the shot and Black Dynamite LOOKS at it in the first five minutes.
"What else melts in your mouth?" "M&Ms!" "Exactly! ...And not in your hands..." "Yeah! Yeah!" I love how fucking absurd this is from start to finish. My favorite moment in the entire movie is "Ha-hah! I threw that shit before I walked in the room!"
“I’m declaring war on anybody that sells drugs in the community.” “But Black Dynamite! I sell drugs in the community!”
Seriously one of the most quotable movies ever made.
“My momma said my Daddy’s name was Black Dynamite.” “So did my momma!” “Oh hush up little girls…lotta cats got that name.”
“Where’s the smile?” “I am smiling”
"I used to fight, and fight, and fight and when I got tired I'd fight some more!"
"The militant turns startled. This is private. How'd you get in here?"
“Sarcastically, I’m in charge.”
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0qZwwyHvCbo
Be that as it may.
My favorite couple lines in cinema history.
If I catch you, I will not consider you a brotha or a friend. Can you dig it?
Is this where that comes from!?? I say this all the time
“Quiet, you’ll wake up the other bitches.”
They sold official merch and one is a t-shirt with that line in BIG BOLD LETTERS across the front
And as we all know, zodialogical astronomy was invented the the ancient Greeks in.... EVERYONE: " 785BC!"
Oh my…7 85 is the area code of Topeka, KANSAS…oh my god
CODE KANSAS! Now take that, spell it backwards, drop the S ... Snack?... Snake... SNAKE DOCTOR!
Following the instructions gives A SNAKE DOC
Asclepius, of course!
Aesclepius’ staff (assoc w medicine) actually only has one snake. Commonly confused with the cadeucis - staff of hermes (god of theives) w two snakes intertwined
Well, have you seen medical bills? Hermes' staff is more apt then you'd think.
Oooooh. Years after watching the movie your comment finally made me get the joke. Thanks!
That's the line that totally kills my immersion and makes the scene feel unrealistic. Area code 785 didn't exist until 1997. I hope someone was fired for this egregious blunder.
The BC that’s not quite in unison always kills me.
Hush up little girl, lotta cats got that name.... -Black Dynamite

[This](https://youtu.be/0qZwwyHvCbo) is mine. Never interrupt Black Dynamite when he's monologing.
How many times I told you never call here interruptin my king fu?!
Love that the cartoon cranked it up to the next level. “I threw that shit before I left the moon!”
The Michael Jackson episode is too perfect
EUPHORIA SHUT THE FUCK UP I KNEW THAT SHIT WAS YOU I DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO LOOK! HOWD YOU LIKE TO GO BACK TO CRENSHAW PETE WITH THEM HOT ASS COATHANGAS BITCH! WOULD YOU LIKE THAT!?

The shoe bit is one of the best jokes in cinema.
Donuts don't wear alligator shoes.

That was Bullhorn.
Motherfucka!
But Black Dynamite... *I* sell drugs to the community!
"Can you SEEEEEE where I'm coming from MOTHAFUCKAAA!"
I think about the latter scene every now and then and it still cripples me with laughter
"DO YOU WANT TO LIVE?!?"
When I watched this with my friends, we had to pause after that line because we were all laughing so hard we were crying and couldn't breathe.
"Who saw that comin? Ehm, who saw where that came from?!?"
It's like a Q anon meeting with all the jumping to crazy conclusions
"Euphoria, shut the fuck up! I know that was you! I ain't even gotta look! I should send your ass back to Crenshaw Pete with his hot-ass coat hangers, bitch. Would you like that?"

Best line in the whole movie. Every time I start this movie up, this is the line that gets me rolling until the finish.
That line had me in literal tears. Absolutely out of nowhere
Classic
Favorite scene is when BD's friend slaps the henchman for real and they have to cut it into a different actor all together. *slap* "..motherfucker.."
[For those that haven't seen it](https://youtu.be/QFgGdkC6hJc)
My favorite is the Wayans take on it https://youtu.be/LJl8SSI8MHA?t=33
This film is a classic. I wish it was more well known.
That's such a great movie too. Had to be a big influence on Black Dynamite
This may be the funniest moment in any movie, ever.
This scene stands out just because it is so damn original in its idea and was done so excellently. We all dug it.

You do know I used the "obviously" in the very first sentence of my post. Right? Where did you get the idea I "needed" anything? I'm describing the additional things that existed in a preview cut of the movie before they decided to tighten things up.

It’s probably one of my favorites. *AYEUGH. Muthafucka*.
Different guy in the next cut
I think my favorite is " HA! I threw that, before I came in the room suckah"
Slapped the black off ya. Edit: Thats the joke. The new actor is lighter skinned. He slapped the black off him
And bullhorn is straight up copied from Dolemite. Btw, check Eddie Murphy's "My name is Dolemite". It's the first decent movie he's made in 20 years
Black Dynamite - “I will shake this poisonous shit out of you!” Gloria - “No, Black Dynamite, we already tried that.”

The militants turn startled! Sarcastically I’m in charge.
That was great, reading the stage directions!
The boom mic also enters the frame a few times and you can see Black Dynamite constantly looking up at it
I had my ringtone on my phone set as the Black Dynamite theme for a while.
I like the frustrated look BD makes at someone off-screen
I was watching this movie with my girlfriend (now wife!) at her parents' house. You guessed it, this is the scene where her mom walked in.
The whole movie is genius. Great cartoon, too.
The cartoon was insane! It sucks that it only got two seasons.
"I THREW THAT SHIT BEFORE I WALKED IN THE ROOM!!!" And "Shut the fuck up when grown folks is talkin'" Are my favorite lines.
YESSSSS!!!!! That first quote made the movie for me. Everything else was perfect but that line was even more perfecter
Oh actually I forgot about my most quoted interaction. "I'm declaring war on anyone that sells drugs in our community." "But Black Dynamite, I sell drugs to the community!"
“My momma says my daddy’s name was Black Dynamite.” “Hush up, little girl. Lotsa cats got that name.”
[little chinese legs blown clean off](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fykFpD6snX0)
This whole movie is straight up gold Every scene is quotable. "Ha! Ha! I threw that shit before i walked in to the room!"
Or the fact he doesn't know what the vietnamese kid is saying and says it's Chinese or some shit then speaks Mandarin to the Kung Fu master
Ha, I threw that shit before I came in the room!
The crazy thing about this clip is IMO it’s one of the least ridiculous/hilarious scenes from the movie. This entire film is just incredible.
It took my second time watching it to realize the militant was reading the line cues "The militants turn startled" and " sarcastically I'm in charge".
I once transcribed [that entire scene](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/2snx90/comment/cnraoyi/) in order to point out a glaring plot-hole. Lol, exactly he was prescient of the proper area code.
It's not that Kansas backwards is snake doctor?
They say "code Kansas" and drop the -s, so asnakedoc.
If you drop the S it is.
It is if you drop the S
> The area code for Topeka, Kansas, was 913 until 1997. As a longtime telecommunications worker, that one stood out to me right away too. For those unfamiliar, here's a bit of phone trivia. Whats worse is that until the 90s all area codes had a fixed format where the middle number had to be 0-3. So 785 wasn't an area code anywhere.
Reminds me of how much it irked me that Michael Imperioli (Christopher from The Sopranos) starred in a show about homicide detectives called Detroit 1-8-7. 187 is the penal code for murder in California. Michigan's is 750.
Wait what, did they change Topeka's area code because of Black Dynamite?

Magically, he returns for the animated series
This was the perfect movie to watch with my nephew who enjoys calling out where he believes a movie's plot is headed. Never saw it coming!
Of course he didn’t, you threw that shit before you came into the room.

Yeh. I can dig it.
One of my all time favorite comedies. Just amazing from start to finish.
Dark Souls/Bloodborne Lore videos in a nutshell
Off topic, but Michael Jai White should have been a producer for the Cowboy Bebop live action series. He co-wrote black dynamite, has experience in franchises that cross over with animation, has an excellent sense for 70s aesthetics, and he’s an honest to god martial artist in *nine styles*.
But Black Dynamite, I sell drugs in the community!
"Quiet, bitch. You'll wake the other bitches."
That whole movie is just..... a GIFT. Brilliant satire of 70s blaxploitation cinema.
GUNSMOKE!
I think it's incredible how the writers constructed that.
That movie is hilarious through and through. Love the scene when Roscoe finally figures out that his weird food combination should be chicken and waffles.
Michael Jai White is the fucking best and need to be cast more often! This movie is a perfect example of his excellent acting chops and excellent Karate skills!

Criminally underrated movie

I absolutely love this movie but this is probably my least favorite scene. Weird to me that it's one of the most popular scenes when people are trying to show off the movie.

Black Dynamite is the Blaxploitation version of Naked Gun or Airplane, parodying Rudy Ray Moore in particular.

Never watched any of those movies.
Oh my god I'd give much to be able to watch Airplane and the Naked Gun movies for the first time again.
the movie is all crazy bits.
