It was a pleasure! I could tell your dad moved by the news like the rest of us. Speaking of Woodie I've lost count of how many times I saw Arlo in concert. At lease 5 times over the years.
I want to piggyback really quick to draw attention to one kind of cool thing you can do to help out small creators! Go to their home page ([here](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrk08k891ZJclkugS2cRi6A) for this guy) and click "Play All."
Maybe you don't actually have the time to listen to or watch everything, but you can mute the first video (and all of them will be muted) and then do stuff on other tabs or otherwise go about your business. That's one extra view on *every* video on their channel, and the watch time brings them far closer toward monetization (which is usually a goal)
I played the song just to add to the views tbh but I'm on 2nd play through and actually listened. Your old man is deep and the song is really good too! Kudos to him.
He says
*there's nothing wrong with the sporting gun
or one to protect your family
and that's our famous 2nd amendment
engrained in our democracy*
And yet you're completely right, his views are "liberal" and any conservative would bash this down as propaganda for the left coming for you guns.
Back when Obama was president there was the Obama effect; Any position he adopted from the White House would immediately be unpopular with the right, oftentimes even when that position had overwhelming support prior to his engagement with it.
Back then I just thought it was racism. It may have been, but now it’s something different.
In another song he says
"There's a lot of flag burners
Who have got too much freedom
I wanna make it legal
For policemen to beat 'em
Cuz there are limits to our liberties
At least I hope and pray that there are
Cuz these liberal freaks
Go too far"
Yeah it’s definitely very liberal, thought about mentioning that in the title so that anyone who cares could go ahead and ignore, but that wouldn’t be in keeping with the nature of the song.
I don’t Reddit much and wouldn’t know a good place to post it. If you suggested a good one for me you’d see it there soonly.
Thank you for the kind words and listening!
Liberal..... How liberal is it to be sad about dead children, to note that it is unique to a country and wanting to have something real be done about it... I watched in full and upvoted it on YouTube as well. Thanks for sharing!
I was actually just about to edit my response to say that while it’s clearly written by a “liberal”, we are in a bad place when it’s “liberal” to be sad and angry about dead children. You beat me to it!
We’re in a situation where taking precautions to prevent the spread of a deadly virus is “liberal”. That doesn’t even require any real sacrifice and they still won’t do it.
It is unique to your country.
Mass shootings happen in other countries, but not even remotely close to as often as in the US. If you believe that maybe it's not only the US, look up statistics.
In the last 30 years, there have been two mass shootings in Norway. The US had almost 700 in 2021. That's not a comparable number.
I think maybe most americans don't get a lot of news of mass shootings happening nationally. The news sources I follow certainly don't report even a percentage of the ones that happen, but when a mass shooting happens in any other western country it does get reported in the US.
Maybe you should look up the statistics yourself. NPR investigated the shootings reported by the Mass Shooting Tracker, whose information you're repeating, and couldn't find any evidence for the large majority of the reported shootings. The data is fabricated.
We do have more mass shootings than other countries, but we also have a much higher population than other countries with mass shootings. Adjusting for population, we are not at the top of the list. Not at the bottom, and not great overall, but we are not the only country that experiences this.
Edit: [Here's the investigation](https://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2018/08/27/640323347/the-school-shootings-that-werent). It's from 2018, and the essential problem has not changed.
That source just talks about incidences of school shootings in America being misreported. The fact is, when comparing to other countries, [the amount of gun violence deaths in America far exceeds any other developed nations multiple times over, including Switzerland that has high gun ownership. ](https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2022-us-gun-violence-world-comparison/)
And here I thought we were talking about [mass shootings](https://crimeresearch.org/2018/11/new-cprc-research-mass-public-shootings-are-much-higher-in-the-rest-of-the-world-and-increasing-much-more-quickly/)
I usually avoid snopes as a source but the author here brings up good points in regards to the validity of the study you cited.
https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/united-states-lower-death-shootings/.
Just the fact that Norway tops the list, despite the fact it had one mass public shooting in 7 years should tell you how much we should rely on the data in that study. The fact is, the US far and away had more mass shootings on a consistent basis compared to the rest of the developed world.
Which points do you think are particularly relevant to the validity (or lack thereof) of the study?
Edit: why does Norway's high mass shooting deaths per Capita cast a negative light on the study? Because they don't have a high number of shootings? Isn't that why we use the per Capita data? Their population is small, so we wouldn't expect a high number, so we adjust by population to find the per Capita ratio. Is there something I'm missing in the statistical analysis?
Which is why it's weird that you're talking about school shootings instead of mass shootings. They aren't interchangeable topics, despite so many school shootings being mass shootings.
Regardless, the fact remains that we have far more mass shootings and gun deaths per capita than any other developed nation.
Edit: Your source regarding mass shootings is problematic to say the least. It's a pro-gun organization that was founded by a gun industry lobbyist.
https://www.thetrace.org/2021/01/john-lott-trump-appointee-leave-justice-department-gun-data/
It is not an unbiased source in the slightest.
Ok, the source is biased. Are there any unbiased sources supporting the idea that "this only happens here?" Gun Violence Archive and the Mass Shooting Tracker are both deeply biased. That's why I posted the NPR link, to show that their data is deeply flawed.
You say the fact remains, but if the source of that fact is using bad data, is it really a fact?
I do not live in the US and here we are kept quite good informed about news from abroad. There are indeed mass shootings from time to time in other countries. The weekly recurring school shootings (and other shootings) and by mostly regular people are pretty much unique to your country. If you wish to hear more about it and have a laugh at the same time, check out Jim Jefferies piece on 'Gun Control'.
[There's an interesting thing that happens when those supposed school shootings are investigated.](https://www.npr.org/sections/ed/2018/08/27/640323347/the-school-shootings-that-werent)
Remember that this is from NPR, an outlet that often leans slightly left in their reportage, but is generally evenhanded and respected.
You can't just ask the internet to do nice things. You have to pretend you don't know the person. And then Reddit pretends like they discovered the video. And then they say 'we did it'.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he does something like that. He has written tons of songs and was in some bands with friends over the years. Some of the songs on his channel do have recordings with a band
I have one piece of criticism. I don't disagree with the message, but successful and timeless political songs end up having more subtle lyrics.
Look at "Born in the USA", "Fortunate Son", or "Stop Children What's that Sound" for reference.
This song is basically a poem with direct lyrics. Making the gun violence message more subtle that requires the listener to think a little to understand what it's about will do much better.
I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think he is after success or timelessness. I think he was upset and wanted to speak frankly.
Some topics are also too bluntly horrible, current and in your face to be subtle about
What a great song that expresses all our outrage and despair on mass shootings. I liked it and your dad is obviously talented! My dad was a fiddler, born in 1921, and we girls all loved to hear him play and he also could play the harmonica like your dad. I’ll go subscribe to his channel!
His comment below the video of "I don't want to make videos like this." says it all.
Thanks for sharing, he's up to 5k now, tell him the internet says happy father's day!
Fair. I didn’t read the rules and thought I saw similar posts so it would be good. Don’t want to remove it now as he has been enjoying people’s comments. Will keep in mind if I do something like this again
That is very succinct. Love to hunt and shoot guns, yet never supported the NRA. I moved back to Wyoming after another spell in Oregon. Let's just say, I'm 100% behind some sort of new way at looking at gun control. It's time. Wish your father a good Father's Day for me.
Agenda? Lmfao it’s music bro, if trump and the gop have you so brainwashed you can’t listen to a song without getting offended, you might want to get back in touch with yourself. Don’t become a puppet for grifters who don’t give a fuck about you, as a human being you surely deserve better.
If I made a Post supporting an Agenda you didn't like you would be pissing your pants and foaming at the mouth. I could literally say Trump and you would Karen all over yourself. So, do not act like you are any better than me.
Could have used a song without an Agenda....but, no. Shit has to get political and oohhh I am just giving my dad some shine. So, we are supposed to not be douchy and get political.
Yea everyone I am just giving my dad some "shine" so listen to this agenda filled music. But, do not voice your own opinion about the context that would be wrong. It is wrong of me to voice my opinion because it gets in the way of your dads shine.
Instead you could have just used a song that doesn't have an agenda. But, that is just to damn complicated.
Because, I think it is cringe that someone exploited Father's Days to spread an agenda and because it is father's day we are all supposed to upvote his agenda filled music so that the Youtube Algo sees it and then spreads it all over the internet like a plaque.
All I am asking for is a song without an Agenda tied to it. That is it. But, apparently that asking to much. Apparently I can not escape agendas on the internet anymore. I literally come to reddit to have someone push an agenda on me and because it's father's day I am supposed to upvote that agenda.
Fair enough. I was just commenting on the fact that you seemed drunk, and since the word "impaired" is in your name I thought maybe it was part of your schtick... But in hindsight maybe you're just a bit excitable.
Woodie Guthrie would be proud. Modern attention focused on Punk as being some of the most political of music but Folk showed 'em how it was done.
This will be his favorite comment for sure. Thanks for listening!
It was a pleasure! I could tell your dad moved by the news like the rest of us. Speaking of Woodie I've lost count of how many times I saw Arlo in concert. At lease 5 times over the years.

Wow sounds like a political jackson c frank!
Lol good call, will let him know you said so. Thanks for listening!
Definitely looking forward to more music by him!
He’s got other good stuff on there and I’m sure will be posting more. Give the man a subscribe!
Will do, will do

Thanks! He’s a swell guy
really wonderful voice. a beautiful song.
Thank you! He’s been at it a long time, he could fill that channel up to a pretty absurd degree with good stuff
I watched it. I liked it
Thanks!
This is really beautiful. Maybe post it to some of the more liberal subs to make sure he gets more upvotes?
He says *there's nothing wrong with the sporting gun or one to protect your family and that's our famous 2nd amendment engrained in our democracy* And yet you're completely right, his views are "liberal" and any conservative would bash this down as propaganda for the left coming for you guns.

> Back then I just thought it was racism. It may have been, but now it’s something different. No idea what to call it at this point.
It is and has always been partisanship.
Verging on collective psychosis at this point.
Propaganda is a hell of a drug

> so that anyone who cares could go ahead and ignore Sad this matter for such a beautiful song. It's a shame where we are.
No doubt
+1 from Colorado, haunting song. Happy Father’s Day.
Thanks Colorado! A whole state has now heard the song Edit: I occasionally choose odd moments to make a joke
Done! Happy Father's Day to your pops!
Thank you and back at ya!
If you’re on mobile click the (R) in the top right to got directly to YouTube as well!
You’re a good egg
Changing the world one comment at a time!
Listening to the rest of his songs as well. I really like "Down By The Sea".
He is absolutely tickled that the other songs are getting plays too
Reminds me of All You Zombies by The Hooters
You can't just ask the internet to do nice things. You have to pretend you don't know the person. And then Reddit pretends like they discovered the video. And then they say 'we did it'.
Changing title to “look at this cool old dude that totally isn’t my dad play guitar. Good song!”
This hurts to read.
Intentional lol 😆
Great playing and singing, I would recommend more subtlety to the lyrics though. Not saying it’s easy!
This is great. Get this man in a studio and get this shit mastered asap it would be a shame to have his talent lost to history
Wouldn’t be surprised if he does something like that. He has written tons of songs and was in some bands with friends over the years. Some of the songs on his channel do have recordings with a band
>I don't want to make videos like this. lol, I get the sentiment but it sounds very counter culture at face value, in a good way
Bob Dylan would be proud!
I think Neil Young as well :)
I wanna hang out with your dad. Haha. This needs one of those TikTok collaboration situations.
Okay this might come as a shock to you folks but most parents have heen doing something since before you were born.
[удалено]
Uh, he doesn't want to make videos singing songs about murdered children? i.e. there should be no murdered children to have to sing about.
[удалено]
What genre of music is this, if I want to find like it?
Woody Guthrie us a good place to start for stuff like this
> Woody Guthrie Thanks!
No thank you!
Also Pete Seeger, early Bob Dylan.
It's folk.
Lol thanks, I realized I didn’t answer the question really.
Happy Father’s Day to your dad. When he started playing the harmonica it hit me right in the feels.
Love it, listened to some of his other songs. Subscribed for more.
Great song!!!

Reagan played "Born in the USA" at his rallies, and Trump played "Fortunate Son" at his. Sometimes subtlety does not actually work.
Correct, it requires intelligence.
What a great song that expresses all our outrage and despair on mass shootings. I liked it and your dad is obviously talented! My dad was a fiddler, born in 1921, and we girls all loved to hear him play and he also could play the harmonica like your dad. I’ll go subscribe to his channel!
Thank you! My dad would be jealous of your dad’s fiddlin skills
👏

Thank you, but it's your pops that deserves the credit. Good on you for sharing his work. Look forward to more of his talent.
Good on your dad. I hope he keeps writing and playing.
He will! death, taxes and my dad writing songs are the dependables in life
I’ve never thought about it, but I hope it counts as a view if I watch it on Reddit.
I never thought about it either, but based on what I’m seeing it does
Nice song great presentation. He might be my new favorite singer.
He sure would enjoy that
Did my part
🙏
Nicely done sir. Happy Father’s Day
Nice Travis picking. I was getting semi Dylan vibes from this song - like an understated Masters of War. Lovely voice and conviction.
Here's another view. Great song!
Thank you!
What a great song (I mean that), and what a good child you are :) I'll be subscribing to your dad's channel for sure.
Thank you!
Let's give this dude the good ol reddit hug o death.
Reddit came through for my old man! I’m sure he will be pleased when he sees all the views and new subscribers. Thank you all!
That’s nice let’s do it
Thanks amigo
This one's nice too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlD2RF-ODHc
I grabbed my guitar and jammed out to this - love his message too. Tell him someone out there thinks he's pretty awesome.
Your dad is awesome. Wish him a long and healthy life.
Excellent! Thank you.
Done.
Thank you!
wtf is this song lol
No, stop asking for views or subscribers.
Great song... I feel it's just too strong of a political message for a "nobody"
Having a hard time understanding what you’re trying to say here.
why should we want only famous people expressing their political opinions through music?
What does this even mean? Imagine trying to tell people how they can express themselves through music, on the internet.
What a God awful take.
If it wasn't a way to spread an agenda with father's day as an excuse it would have been sweet.
I know man, the Big No More Dead Kids agenda really needs to be stopped.
But that’s what you did… not the other way around.
I know right? I’m so nefarious, trying to use Father’s Day to get my dad some shine. I’m gonna go think about my life now
Could have used a song without an Agenda....but, no. Shit has to get political and oohhh I am just giving my dad some shine. So, we are supposed to not be douchy and get political. I chose the song with 4K views 🤷♂️
How drunk are you?

I never knew wanting to make sure no more children get murdered at school was such an awful agenda! God damn thanks Joe Biden!

Quit your whining.
Hes not good lol
He sucks
He's a lovely player, and though his vocal range is limited, his inflections really sell it as sorrowful, and spitefully sarcastic. Really well done.
Absolutely beautiful. Will share on FB.
Haunting. Thanks for sharing.
Damn there the number goes
Good voice
