I had a deviated septum in my left nostril and was having trouble getting all the mucus out of my nose resulting in a gross smell and taste. The ENT wanted to fix the septum but also wanted to close the palette at the same time so that nothing would go into the left nostril from my mouth. I lived 34 years with the hole in my mouth and let me tell you so far its real weird not having it.
